A brawl broke out at the Old Western Saloon in Point Reyes Station early Sunday evening following Western Weekend festivities, leaving several injured and two men jailed. Witnesses said a 23-year-old Iraq war veteran from Olema may have verbally attacked another veteran, a 25-year-old from Petaluma, inside the bar. A fight ensued involving at least five people, and a bartender was struck in the face while trying to break up the altercation.

Deputies arrived around 7 p.m. and took the 23-year-old into custody. Sergeant Mark Hale said the man suffered cuts to the side of his face when the assailant broke a beer bottle over his head, knocking  him momentarily unconscious. His attacker later returned to the Western and was arrested around midnight for assault with a deadly weapon. The case was sent to court Tuesday, but was not filed due to evidence suggesting the defendant acted in self defense
