The Tomales Braves varsity boys basketball team (2-1-0) has opened the season with decisive 19-point victories over Trinity Prep and Calistoga and a close 54-47 loss to Summerfield Waldorf in the Gene Duffy Classic. Senior guard Andrew Caramagno and senior forward Luke McFadden have each put up 37 points as leading scorers over the course of the three early contests. “We want to win league. That’s our first goal,” Coach Howard Wilson said. “I feel like we have a really good chance with the guys we have. We’re not the biggest team but we’re really athletic.” Early tournament play has also led to a strong 4-2-0 start for the Tomales varsity girls basketball team. Leading scorer junior forward Raelynne Talafili has scored 39 points and junior guard Kayla Furlong has complemented that effort with 38. Coach Chris Kenyon is already eyeing a second consecutive playoff championship. Both teams faced Sonoma Academy Wednesday evening. The boys team will play North Hills Christian at home on December 17 at 3:30 p.m. and the girls team will go up against Elsie Allen at home on December 16 at 6:30 p.m.
