Thoren Manetta, the 25-year-old Bolinas man who served prison time for the 2008 mob beating of street musician Ricky Green, pled guilty to an assault outside Smiley’s Saloon in late March that left two men wounded.

Prosecutors dismissed one of the charges against him that would have resulted in another strike toward a life sentence under California’s “three strikes” law.

“Mr. Manetta decided to plead guilty because litigation is always risky,” Kellin Cooper, his lawyer, said. “From day one he maintained that this was a case of self defense. Instead of risking litigation he decided he would admit to a less serious charge in order to put it behind him.”

Mr. Manetta will be sentenced August 1, and his lawyer expects he will be released from jail by the end of that month.
