Poaching has surged on the coast since the start of the pandemic. At the Bolinas Lagoon, the number of clammers exploded in response to a viral video, according to the Bolinas Lagoon Advisory Council. Last week, the group voted to send a letter to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, urging increased patrols around the lagoon and at the end of Wharf Road. The council has received reports of scuba diving and gill netting, and said the most popular fishing spot is too close to harbor seal haulouts.
