The decomposed body of an adult man was found just uphill of Highway 1, a mile south of downtown Stinson Beach, on Golden Gate National Recreation Area land on Sunday. The park was alerted to the incident at 12:10 a.m., when the county fire department called the park with a report of a body in its jurisdiction. “A German tourist who could not speak English well stumbled across the remains when she was looking to relieve herself. She didn’t speak English well enough to conduct a 911 call, so she flagged down an American tourist who called,” said Alexandra Picavet, a park spokeswoman. It is not an area with trails or any other common public use, and Ms. Picavet said the clothing was not consistent with a hiker or camper and too far away from the beach to have washed up from the ocean. The park is leading the investigation, but they say they have nothing to connect the body to any ongoing investigations and there is no obvious indication of foul play. It could take months to identify the individual or even garner more information about the age of the deceased because of the extent of decomposition.
