West Marin fans will have to wake up early if they want to watch Savilia Blunk compete in the Olympic Games this weekend. The Inverness native’s cross-country mountain bike race starts Sunday morning at 5 a.m. Pacific time. Ms. Blunk, who has been a top-ranked cyclist since high school, is hoping to become the second Marin County woman to win an Olympic medal and the first from West Marin. Susan DeMattei, who grew up in San Rafael, took the bronze medal at the inaugural Olympic mountain biking race in Atlanta in 1996. Ms. Blunk, who is 25, learned to ride on a pink hand-me-down bike outside her family’s home on the Inverness Ridge. Her older brother Silas gave her a push that eventually took her on a ride to the top rankings of the sport. The games will be streamed on Peacock and nbcolympics.com.
