A vintage plane made an emergency landing on Limantour Beach on Saturday after one of its sensors failed, according to the pilot, Luis Jones. Mr. Jones said he was on his way from Half Moon Bay to Shelter Cove with his wife when his oil sensor read zero. Rather than risk a flight over the ocean, he decided to land in the sand. After settling on the beach, Mr. Jones discovered that only the sensor, not the oil pump, was broken. Despite several beachgoers pushing the plane as the propeller whirred, the sand proved too soft for takeoff. A ranger showed up and told Mr. Jones to stop trying, so he will now have the plane deconstructed, hauled out and put back together. The 1967 Beechcraft Sundowner was originally owned by a veteran who painted it to look like a WWII fighter.
