Maya De Santiago painted red cherries, a blue sky and swirling clouds on a temporary mural outside the Whale of a Deli during the first-ever Interdependence Festival of Arts and Community, held Saturday in Point Reyes Station. The festival, borne of an idea among members of an artist committee of West Marin Standing Together, hoped to build solidarity through the arts. Among the events of the low-key afternoon were live music, origami, art exhibitions and dance performances. Shelley Rugg said a permanent mural with contributions from many children will be painted on the wall outside of the deli in the next year, if all goes according to plan.
