Elk activists storm Point Reyes.

A crowd organized by PETA gathered in Point Reyes Station on Sunday to protest the Point Reyes National Seashore’s plan for its tule elk, which activists called a “death sentence” for the animals. As the July 14 deadline for a decision on the general management plan amendment approaches, the park faces mounting pressure from environmental activists who object to continued ranching in the seashore. On Monday, elk activist Diana Oppenheim brought a petition to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s office in Washington, urging her to reject the plan.    David Briggs
