People enjoyed New Year’s Day at Drakes Beach, where a few days earlier a surfer climbed ashore with a shark bite. At around noon on Dec. 30, Natalie Jones, an Oakland resident and a former Point Reyes Light reporter, was bitten on her feet while trying to catch waves near the mouth of Drakes Estero with two friends. John Dell’Osso, a spokesman for the Point Reyes National Seashore, said the lacerations were serious, with teeth marks obvious through the wetsuit. (Ms. Jones said she will get to keep all her toes and her stitches should come out by the end of this week.) The shark, likely a white shark, Mr. Dell'Osso said, appeared to be eight to 10 feet long. But with no more sightings, the park reopened the waters on Tuesday. This caption was corrected on Jan. 5 after speaking with Ms. Jones.
