David van Leeuwen, who started the metalwork program at Bolinas-Stinson School 42 years ago, will retire at the end of this school year. Despite some concern that the program would be nixed, it will continue under new leadership. Mr. Van Leeuwen, who studied art as a college student, landed in Bolinas at 19. He will continue the humanitarian work he has undertaken for years in Myanmar, where he helps monasteries and nunneries build water-holding tanks, toilets and wells. Focusing on this mission in his retirement is “nothing short of a dream come true, to find a situation this rewarding.” David Briggs
