OCEANS: Volunteers armed with pens and clipboards learned how to tally beach and offshore activities in a state-designated marine protection area at Drakes Beach on Saturday. The session was part of a citizen science program, organized by the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin and aimed at collecting data that will inform the level of future enforcement patrol and impacts by legal or illegal activities. Participants noted all actions (and inactions) of every person or vessel observed from the beach’s tidal zone to the limit of the protected area. Trainings will be held on Jan. 17 at Limantour Beach and on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Duxbury Reef. For information, call the E.A.C. at (415) 663.9312.
