SPECTACLE: Turquoise water on Nicasio Reservoir banks resulted from springtime blue-green algae rising to the water’s surface and dying, a senior engineer with the Marin Municipal Water District said. A natural—though sporadic—occurrence, the color arises from the breakdown of algae’s cellular components that turn the water turquoise under certain lighting conditions.
