The Bolinas Museum’s Benefit Art Auction and party will be held at the Peace Barn in Bolinas on Sept. 9—the 25th anniversary auction. The tradition started in a borrowed gallery space before growing into one of the best social events in West Marin. Since 2006, Susie Buell’s Peace Barn, with its historic ambiance and professional kitchen, has hosted the cocktail party, live auction, silent auction and after-auction party of delicious food, wine, music and enjoyment under the stars. Mark Buell is the master auctioneer, bringing wit and charm that keeps the crowd laughing and applauding as he urges lively bidding.
Artists are from the Bay Area, with more than half from coastal Marin. With such diversity, there must be a favorite for everyone. Lush landscapes include Lissa Nicolaus’s painting in which you can almost feel the coastal breeze. There is Barry McGee’s triad of his iconic faces, an exquisitely crafted table by Tripp Carpenter, a small but powerful sculpture by Peter Boiger and a playful painting by Inez Storer. Chester Arnold painted an enthusiastic San Francisco Giant’s fan, Clare Rojas painted on an antique banjo, and Walter Tom Blair painted the end of a surfboard. Fine art prints include a beautifully nuanced, rare lithograph by nationally recognized local Russell Chatham, exuberantly sketched prints by Peter Volkous, and so much more. All the art and offers are on view now at the museum. Join us for this celebration of 25 years. This is the museum’s major autumn fundraiser that helps keep all exhibitions and most public events free to all. Tickets are available now at bolinasmuseum.org or by calling (415) 868.8809.
Elia Haworth is the curator of coastal Marin art and history for the Bolinas Museum.
