AGNES von BURKLEO WITH HER STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS AT THEIR RECITAL, “SUMMER DAYS,” AT TOBY’S GALLERY

Agnes grew up spending summers in Inverness at her parents’ house, the Highland Lodge. Built in 1904 as a hotel, Agnes’s family bought the lodge in 1945 and owned it until 1963.  The current owner, the Holland family, bought it in 1970. Agnes moved here eight years ago to be with her daughter, Meg Cadiz, and has taught music to West Marin children and adults ever since. Agnes, a singer and pianist, has a doctorate in music and has performed with the Minnesota Opera Company, the Duluth Symphony and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and was named “Artist of the Year” in Minnesota. Her prose and poetry have been published in the West Marin Review. She attributes her love of music to her parents, Margaret and John Wolohan. Margaret was violinist, music teacher and performer with a trio that often played at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. John was a band leader for 30 years at the famous El Patio Ballroom, on the corner of Van Ness and Market in San Francisco. He played organ in the Old Sacred Heart Church and they put on music salons twice a month at home in the lodge. Agnes is now in Oregon, spending time with her three daughters while awaiting a room at Walnut Place.
