“Blast from the Past”
THE 53RD ANNUAL 4-H FAIR AND LIVESTOCK SHOW — FIRST PUBLISHED IN THE LIGHT ON JUNE 6, 2002
The 4-H Fair and Livestock Show has always been a big part of the traditional Western Weekend events, along with the parade, town barbecue and the coronation of the Queen and Princess. In 2002, 47 kids entered a variety of projects in cooking, arts and crafts, photography, leather crafts, floral arrangement, sewing and—of course—livestock animals. You don’t have to have a large animal like a cow or horse to be involved in 4-H livestock projects. Children compete with horses and dairy or beef cattle, but also with goats, rabbits, ducks and dogs. All the projects are open to children of all ages and are taught by volunteer leaders from the community who specialize in their field.
