IN HONOR OF LOCAL HISTORIAN, JACK MASON — BORN AUGUST 11,1911 AND PASSED JANUARY 12, 1985
“Thirty years ago this week West Marin’s longtime historian died at his Inverness home, The Gables. Jack Mason’s childhood ties to the area inspired him to devote his retirement years to documenting the history of West Marin. Jack produced six books on local subjects and two about Marin County in general. He was a columnist for the Point Reyes Light through three ownerships, and for eight years provided the community with a delightful quarterly, Point Reyes Historian. Jack opened his house as a museum and he happily offered his extensive history collection to researchers. According to his wishes, almost two years after his death The Gables became the Inverness branch of the Marin County Free Library, and the Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History re-opened its doors in the old parlor. The rest is history….” — Dewey Livingston, January 2015
