THE NICASIO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT LADIES AUXILIARY PRESENTS A CHECK FOR $12,000 TO THE NICASIO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
The Nicasio Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary was incorporated in 1959 as an association of women (fondly known as “The Ladies”) who provided assistance (and sandwiches!) to firefighters and neighbors when the alarm at the top of the firehouse sounded, calling the community out to fight fires. Starting with 22 chartermembers, the Ladies Auxiliary has grown to more than 100 members and now raises money for the N.V.F.D. The primary fundraising event is an annual community potluck and barbecue in Nicasio. Pictured center is Catherine Barnes, the president of the Ladies Auxilary, presenting this year’s profits, a check for $12,000, to chief of the N.V.F.D., Eric Blantz. Grace Farley and Mary Lafranchi, standing to the right of Catherine, are two of the founding members. Funds raised by the Ladies Auxiliary have been used to purchase new firefighting uniforms and necessary equipment and contributed to the purchase of a much-needed new fire engine in 2014.
