CELEBRATING THE CLOSING OF THE STINSON BEACH PRESCHOOL AND ITS TEACHER, SUSAN HILSENRAD TACHERRA, AFTER 50 YEARS OF SERVICE — BOLINAS

“At the age of 3, my son, Gus Loren, began preschool in Stinson Beach with Susan Tacherra in 1976. When I first walked into Susan’s Montessori classroom, I realized it was a very special place. Not only did she interact with the children with respect and loving kindness, but she also created an atmosphere that inspired and encouraged in them camaraderie among themselves and a sense of wonder about the world around them. It was a magical space she created daily within the Stinson Beach Community Center. Among Gus’s best friends to this day are a few of his buddies from his preschool years with Susan, even though we moved to Nicasio when Gus was 5 and he attended elementary school there. Susan so inspired me that I pursued my Montessori certification in the 1980s, along with my and Susan’s dear friend, Lorelei Morris, who also taught with her at the preschool. When I became principal of Bolinas-Stinson School, I saw that Susan still had that magic and had remained at the top of her game, knowledgeable of the latest trends in early childhood education. We love you, Susan Tacherra!”
