A Fairfax resident began work this week in her new role as executive director of the West Marin Fund, a community foundation that provides grants for local nonprofits and works to expand social services. Elizabeth Warner, 53, brings more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership to a role previously held by Sarah Hobson. In a June 5 newsletter from the fund, Ms. Warner wrote, “West Marin is an incredibly special place, and I’m honored to be leading the fund into its next chapter.” After studying international and development studies at the University of California, Berkeley, Ms. Warner earned a master’s in nonprofit management. In 2012, she joined the Ploughshares Fund, a foundation focused on global nuclear disarmament. As the group’s executive director, she contributed to the coalition-building efforts essential to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and furthered the implementation of equity practices. In a letter posted on LinkedIn, she voiced her gratitude for her time at the fund, a job she described as feeling at times like “working in an emergency room, on call monitoring the news cycles, where consequences were life or death.” After leaving, she volunteered as a mentor, consulted, and took a beat to unplug from the news to run a 200-mile footrace through Washington’s Cascade Mountains. After reflecting on how she could next be of service to the nonprofit sector, she found her answer in West Marin. On Monday, Ms. Warner began diving into the work of the West Marin Fund, which administers over $1 million in grants each year. From supporting workforce housing, early childhood services, entrepreneurship, and various other initiatives, the fund has accomplished much in its first 15 years. “I look forward to expanding the impact even further as we work together to build a thriving West Marin,” Ms. Warner said.
