The director of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Chuck Bonham, told thematic jokes to a crowd of 100 gathered on Monday at the San Geronimo Golf Course to mark the release of the final Central Coast Coho Salmon Federal Recovery Plan, a collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The plan recommends specific actions to improve watersheds throughout the north and central coast—including Lagunitas, Pine Gulch, Redwood and Walker Creeks—such as removing barriers, adding shade in order to cool waters, increasing woody debris in streams and reducing roads near them. It will also make it easier for agencies to acquire the funding to implement these actions.
