Brush fire burns east of Tomales

Nearly 30 acres burned yesterday just east of Tomales, threatening five homes that stood within 20 feet of the flames. Fifty-five firefighters, as well as members of Cal Fire, Novato Fire District and the Coast Guard, responded to a report at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The fire, just north of Fallon-Two Rock Road and east of Highway One, was contained by 2 p.m. Drift smoke reports were made from as far away as Rohnert Park. The cause is under investigation. “This is shaping up to be a very busy fire season, as evidenced by the number of fires here in Marin and throughout the state,” Mike Giannini, battalion chief with the Marin County Fire Department, said. “The hottest, driest days are still ahead of us.”
