Buck grant for Nicasio artist
Nicasio artist Patrick Maloney was awarded the Beryl H. Buck Award for teaching art classes at San Quentin, Marin County Juvenile Hall, and Canal Ministry in San Rafael.
Maloney, 65, was awarded $10,00. He told The Light Monday he hopes to use the money toward creating an artists’ residency in Ireland.
"It’s thrilling," said Maloney, a Nicasio resident of 35 years. "It’s nice to get some validation in life, particularly at my age."
In his classes, Maloney explained he uses a lot of recycled materials and encourages that students work in groups.
