Skye Ranch name changed
Responding to complaints from San Geronimo Valley residents, county supervisors voted 4-to-0 Tuesday to rename the Valley's new open space preserve from the "Gary Giacomini Skye Ranch Open Space Preserve" to the "Gary Giacomini Open Space Preserve."
Supervisor Giacomini did not take part in the discussion or vote.
Valley residents, who had waged a long battle against development of a subdivision named Skye Ranch on the 1,549 acres, objected to "Skye Ranch" being left in the name.
Supervisors last July included Giacomini in the preserve's name because of his role in helping acquire the land for the public.
Among the handful of Valley residents who appeared before the board Tuesday was supervisorial candidate Steve Kinsey, who warned that without a name change, some disgruntled people might vandalize preserve signs.

Trustee Resigns
Shoreline School District announced this week it is seeking candidates to replace Trustee Rich McCudden of Bodega Bay. McCudden, a trustee since 1990, resigned because of scheduling conflicts with his job as bank consultant.
McCudden's replacement must live in Shoreline's Trustee Area 3, which includes Dillon Beach and the outskirts of Tomales plus Bodega Bay, Bodega, Valley Ford, and Bloomfield.
Applications must be submitted to Shoreline's district office in Tomales before 4 p.m., Oct. 14. The district on Thursday, Oct. 3, will hold a meeting at Bodega Bay Elementary School to answer any questions potential candidates might have.
Candidates will be interviewed and a new trustee will be selected during a public meeting of the school board at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17. Those interested can call (707) 878-2266 to get applications.

County planning
County planning commissioners on Monday, Oct. 7, will hold a public hearing to consider issuing coastal, use, and tidelands permits to Ralph Garside to legalize a 900-square-foot barn, a 1,137-square-foot house addition, a 747-square-foot aviary, and a series of decks, retaining walls, gazebos, stairs, and landings at 20 Ocean Ave. in Bolinas.
As part of the proposal, Garside plans to fill a hole excavated for a swimming pool, remove a spa, and construct a breezeway between the aviary and house.
