Hal Airey, 80, native to Stinson
Stinson Beach resident, Henry James Airey, known as Hal, died Friday, Oct. 17. He was 80.
Born on May 9, 1923, Mr. Airey was a third-generation Stinson Beach native, whose grandfather and granduncle opened the towns first hotel and general store in 1906. After graduating from Tamalpais High School he joined the US Navy. While serving as a pilot during the Korean War his plane was shot down. He later served as an attache and intelligence officer in Taiwan and Singapore.
At the end of his military service he became a commercial pilot with China Air Transport and Continental Air Services in Vietnam and Singapore.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lee Airey; and a son, David Airey.
Mr. Airey is survived by his wife of 37 years, Samruay Oy Airey of Stinson Beach; daughter, Christine Airey; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Barbie Airey; Bob and Peggy Airey; and Bruce and Jill Airey; sister, Marna Griffin; and four granddaughters.
The family has suggested that any memorial contributions be made to the Stinson Beach Community Center.
