Point Reyes Light -- November 6, 1997

Non-candidate wins at Laguna

By Stephen Barrett

Despite announcing before Tuesday's election that he was dropping out of the race for Laguna School District trustee, Chileno Valley dairyman Jim Lanatti this week was elected, along with newcomer Sharon Hess.

Incumbent Moreda loses

If Lanatti accepts the position, Chileno Valley voters will have denied longtime incumbent Donald Moreda a seventh term on the school board. Lanatti edged Moreda 28-26 while Hess garnered 50 votes.

Lanatti had told The Light earlier that he did not plan to serve if elected, but he was not available by press time to say whether the election results had changed his mind.

College of Marin

Meanwhile, county voters returned incumbents Greg Brockbank, Wanden Treanor, and Barbara Dolan to the College of Marin board of trustees. Brockbank received 23,397 votes, Treanor 22,070, and Dolan 21,992. Challenger Patricia Garcia received 18,833 votes.
