Rodoni in race against Kinsey

By Andrew Pridgen

Less than one week after being reelected to the North Marin Water District Board of Directors, Olema resident Dennis Rodoni as expected announced he will challenge West Marin Supervisor Steve Kinsey next year.

Last week, Forest Knolls resident and Coastal Post reporter Louis Nuyens announced he would challenge Kinsey for the second time in four years. In March of 2000, Kinsey bested Nuyens 61 percent to 39 percent. In 1994, Kinsey defeated Bolinas attorney Dotty LeMieux to take the seat being vacated by retiring Supervisor Gary Giacomini.

Rodoni, who was first elected to the Novato-based water board in 1995, is a building contractor. For the past four years, rumors have circulated in Marin political circles that he would challenge the incumbent next year.

‘The rumors are true’

"Now I can say the rumors are true," Rodoni told The Light on Tuesday. "I’m excited to get the candidacy underway. There are some changes that can be made."

While not fully disclosing his platform, Rodoni, in announcing his candidacy for the Fourth District seat, said he will foremost "address Marin’s traffic crisis, pressing for land-use policies to protect agriculture in West Marin."

Turning his sights towards East Marin, Rodoni said he’s also "opposed to zoning to allow high-density development at San Quentin."

Rodoni has not spoken out on Tomales Bay water quality, second units, creating a business improvement district, or trash issues in West Marin.

Honors for Rodoni

Rodoni was honored in June 2000 by the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin for his work with Rigdon Currie for starting and organizing the annual Tomales Bay Roadside Cleanup.

in addition he received the Sis Arndt Watershed award in Sept. 2001 for his work in protecting Tomales Bay. He was given the Coastal Health Alliance Mount Vision award for board leadership and dedicated community service earlier this year.

Rodoni, if elected in March 2004, would continue to serve on the North Marin board until January 2005. "We can get a lot accomplished in that time," he said. "More effective water conservation, a recycled water program, and the completion of the Stafford Lake facility for a secure local water source."
