Longtime Point Reyes Station resident Elinore E. Cheda,
who worked for years at Cheda Market, the family business, died Monday,
Nov. 7, of complications from dementia. She was 98.
At 6 a.m., six days a week, Mrs. Cheda arrived at
the Cheda Market, located at the site of the current A Whale of a Deli
in Point Reyes Station, where she brewed coffee, made deli salads, and
set up the produce case. Until l995, Cheda Market was owned and operated
by her son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Mary Ann Cheda.
A kind and gentle heart
Noted her family, "Elinore had a kind and gentle
heart and her greatest joy was spending time and sharing laughter with
her family and friends."
Born June 6, 1907 in Novato to James and Elizabeth
Rogers, she was the 11th of 12 children.
Mrs. Cheda enjoyed gardening and taking long walks.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Olema.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Cheda in
1975; sisters, Mary L. Gallagher; Elizabeth A. Dolcini; Gertrude B.
Rogers; Veronica J. Ludy; and Lorretta A. Bettinelli; brothers, George
F. Rogers; William C. Rogers; James R. Rogers; Raymond J. Rogers; Thomas
R. Rogers; and Clarence R. Rogers; and her grandson, Kevin Cheda.
Mrs. Cheda is survived by her son, Leroy W. Cheda
of Mill Valley; sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon E. and Mary Ann Cheda
of Petaluma; and Ralph M. and Claudia Cheda of Brentwood; grandchildren,
Shirilyn Schatz, Michelle Yrisarri, Stepahani Nevin, Danielle Rogers,
Glen Cheda, Barry Cheda, Kenneth Cheda, and Kirk Cheda; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Adobe Creek Funeral Home, 331 Lakeville St.,
Petaluma.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.,
Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma.
Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma.
