Point Reyes housing update

County supervisors have asked the consultant preparing an environmental-impact report for the affordable housing project in Point Reyes Station to conduct an architectural review of the town and its historic buildings, and evaluate how the new construction might affect the town’s overall appearance.

The EIR is being prepared by EDAW Inc. of Sacramento, and must be accepted as adequate by county supervisors before the project can proceed to county planning hearings.

The architectural review – a suggestion offered by county administrator and Mesa Road resident Mark Riesenfeld at a scoping session three months ago – raises the cost of the EIR by $11,355, from $225,548 to $236,813. The report is paid for by developer Point Reyes Affordable Housing, Inc, formed under non-profit EAH.

The architectural review also raises the required 30-percent fee for processing the EIR from $67,637.40 to $71,043.90. However, the county has agreed to wait for that money until the developer obtains a Housing Trust Fund subsidy for the project.
