Only one incumbent loses in voting here
By Francis Pisani
All West Marin incumbents except Shoreline School District Trustee Gus Conde won reelection Tuesday. Here are the results of each race:
Shoreline School Board: Incumbent Jim Love of Point Reyes Station easily carried the Area 1 trustees race, picking up 582 votes in Marin County and 152 votes in Sonoma County (together 733 votes or 32.7 percent of the total).
Although Area 1 represents Point Reyes Station, Inverness, and surrounding towns, voters throughout the school district which extends to Carmet north of Bodega Bay helped choose the Area 1 trustee.
Challenger Tim Kehoe won the other Area 1 seat with 26.6 percent of the vote. He outpolled Love by two votes in Sonoma County (154 to 152) but trailed him by 134 votes in Marin. Conde received only 89 votes in Sonoma County but outpolled Kehoe by 16 votes in Marin.
In all, Conde, who lives near Chimney Rock, received 24.6 percent of the vote while challenger Phil Torres of Point Reyes Station received 15.9 percent. Torres picked up 254 votes in Marin and 108 in Sonoma County, a total of 358 votes (15.9 percent).
On Wednesday, Kehoe acknowledged, "Gus [Conde] did poorly on this end [of the district]. I have more in common with the people in the northern area." However, he added, I get along with both ends."
Although Kehoes victory seems assured with a 46-vote margin, a few ballots remain to be counted. "I have a good chance," said Kehoe, "but we have to wait."
Bolinas Public Utility District: All three incumbents waltzed to a victory over challenger Cabe Silverhame, who garnered only 160 votes (15.01 percent). Jack Siedman led the pack with 308 (28.89%), followed by Joan Bertsch with 307 (28.8 %), and Jack McClellan with 290 (27.2%).
"I see the result as a referendum on the overall job the three of us have been doing," McClellan said Wednesday. There is widespread unhappiness in Bolinas over county regulation of septic systems, prompting McClellan to remark, "We hope there will be a more realistic, workable, flexible, user friendly measure for the septic-water system for homes."
Muir Beach Community Services District: Incumbent Director Peter Rudnick was reelected with 96 votes (30.97%) followed by incumbent Director Deborah Kamradt with 90 votes (29.03%). Also winning a spot on the district board was Leighton Hills with 77 votes (24.84%). Missing the cut was challenger Gerald Pearlman with 45 votes (14.52%).
North Marin Water District: Both incumbents breezed to easy victories over challenger John Eyler, a former district employee, who received 3,111 votes (15.94%). Director George Amaroli came in first with 8,396 votes (43.01%) while Director John Schoonover came in second with 7,973 votes (40.84%).
Tamalpais High School District: A slate consisting of incumbent Trustee Ruth Dell (11,847 votes, 25.79%), challenger Susan Schmidt (9,421 votes, 20.51%), and challenger John Wright (9,171 votes, 19.97%) were elected. Losing out were challenger Al Mayberry of Stinson Beach (6,448 votes, 14.04%), Dorothy Hughes (5,115 votes, 11.14%), and Richard Tanguay (3,870 votes, 8.43%).
College of Marin: Incumbent Trustees Barbara Dolan (29,289 votes, 32.05%), Wanden Treanor (27,818 votes, 30.44%), and Greg Brockbank (27,351 votes, 29.93%) all won. The loser was challenger Peter Romanowsky (6,687 votes, 7.32%).
