Two miss joining 'Lagoon club'
By Ivan Gale
The slippery curves of Highway 1 along Bolinas Lagoon caused two motorists this month to veer offroad. Both vehicles stayed dry, narrowly averting joining the famed "Bolinas Lagoon Club."
At 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, Sheriffs deputies and the Highway Patrol responded when Adrian Vitter of Bolinas crashed his 1970 Ford Mustang one-and-a-half miles north of Stinson Beach School.
Highway Patrol spokesman Patrick Ensley told The Light Vitter was driving north on Highway 1 when he swerved, lost control, and spun counterclockwise. The car slid across the southbound lane, struck a telephone pole, slid down the embankment, and rolled over.
Vitter was not injured in the crash, though the car could not be restarted at the scene.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, Stinson Beach Firefighters were called to Bolinas Lagoon because another car lost control driving along Highway 1. Stinson Beach Fire Chief Kenny Stevens said it was a minor accident.
"A lady just dropped her wheels off [Highway 1]," he said this week.
