Inverness man jailed in sex case

Inverness resident Thomas "Toby" Hamann president of West Marin AIDS Fund and managing editor of Estero magazine,on Saturday, Dec. 7, was arrested on charges of having sex with a teenager under 16 numerous times.

Sheriff's deputies shortly before 8 a.m. served Hamann, 34, with search warrant at his home and arrested him.

Hamann, president of West Marin AIDS Fund and managing editor of Estero magazine, was arraigned on Monday.

He is in county jail awaiting a court appearance at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, where he is scheduled to enter a plea. Bail was set at $300,000.

On Tuesday, the Sheriff's detective assigned to the case said only that the matter was "under investigation" and would give no details.

Hamann, an employee at B Street Copy in Point Reyes Station, earlier this year helped organize the West Marin AIDS Fund, which helps provide vital services to AIDS patients who live in West Marin.

Just two weeks ago Hamann brought the AIDS Quilt to Point Reyes Station and organized a World AIDS Day celebration and candlelight walk.
