Kinsey to seek another term

By Andrew Pridgen

West Marin’s county supervisor, Steve Kinsey of Forest Knolls, announced Wednesday he will run in the March 2 election for a third term.

"In the difficult times this county faces, with massive budget cuts from Sacramento looming on the horizon, the valuable experience and leadership skills I have honed over the last eight years will help set the right priorities for Marin County in the years ahead," said Kinsey.

"We need to continue to protect the environment, strengthen agriculture in West Marin, improve transportation and support the needs of our families and children."

Campaign spokeswoman Barbara Garfien of Nicasio said, "Kinsey has fought for the concerns of the Fourth District and Marin County since first coming to office. He has worked hard to restrict development in West Marin, protect our sensitive fisheries, expand open space and to secure funding for childcare workers, and library improvements in Corte Madera and to help bring a gymnasium to Point Reyes.

"He has worked closely with the schools, expanding community partnerships to create peer counseling, expanded health services and family support programs. Additionally, Kinsey has launched a nationally recognized Safe Routes to Schools program and is currently involved in finding funding for widening 101 through San Rafael."

The supervisor will later discuss plans for current West Marin issues, including the debatable impairment of Tomales Bay, a $5 million county sewer system for the tiny town of Marshall, septic system regulations, second-unit regulations, bulky-trash disposal, and county-park plans to close roads in the Muir Beach area.

Supervisor Kinsey serves on the boards of Marin Agricultural Land Trust and the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council. He is chairman of the Marin Emergency Radio Authority, the Congestion Management Agency, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
