FIVE BROOKS - Deputies arrested an Inverness man on charges of driving with a suspended license and trying to evade an officer.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman lost her wallet downtown.

TOMALES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman saw a man jump her fence, steal her lawn mower's gas can from her front yard, and then flee in a tan-colored, older Honda.

MARSHALL - A man found a 20-foot wooden boat washed up on a beach. It was loaded with equipment, possibly for harvesting oysters. He called the Coast Guard, which referred him to the Sheriff's Office.

BOLINAS - A landlord and tenant have an ongoing dispute over a residence on Nymph Road.

FAIRFAX-BOLINAS ROAD - A woman returned to her car parked at the Cataract Trailhead and found the driver's side door lock had been punched out, but the car had not been entered, and nothing had been taken.

DILLON BEACH - A man and a woman got into a verbal fight on Tahiti Way with the woman screaming. Bystanders tried to separate the pair.

MARSHALL - A citizen reported two men parked beside Highway 1 "snorting something into their noses." They commented to him they were "picking" their noses.

SAN GERONIMO - A juvenile fled his house from a back window after a family dispute. A deputy found the youth in a house a couple of doors away and took him home.

STINSON BEACH - A ranger asked deputies for assistance in dealing with eight juveniles, who had drugs and alcohol along Highway 1.

STINSON BEACH - A deputy escorted a couple from Connecticut to Marin General Hospital after the woman, who was seven months pregnant, developed pregnancy problems.

TOMALES - A woman complained about a loud wedding reception along Highway 1 at 1 a.m. The celebrants were gone when a deputy arrived.

NICASIO - A deputy picked up a drunk along the Nicasio Valley Road but released the suspect without filing charges.

STINSON BEACH - A citizen found a purse and passport belonging to a woman. She turned it over to the Highway Patrol, who gave it to deputies.

DILLON BEACH -Deputies were called when two boys, seven and four, became separated from their parents. However, the family was reunited before an officer arrived.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on Buena Vista Avenue reported her dog was barking and her gate had been opened, but she saw no one.

INVERNESS - A woman called deputies for advice when her adult daughter arrived with a truck to take possessions from their house, which the daughter was leaving.

OLEMA - A woman on Highway 1 complained a man was calling and harassing her at work.

OLEMA - A man called deputies, saying he was upset that a neighboring camper had gathered up all the firewood in the area and had built a big fire that might spread. A deputy found the fire was in a pit and posed no problem. Nor had any crime occurred.

DILLON BEACH - A man returning to his home in Tomales got in a traffic dispute on Oceana Drive with another driver, who flipped him the bird. A deputy determined no crime had occurred.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman heard a shotgun blast near the school.

May 23, 1996 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH - A man living along Highway 1 reported he has been receiving hangup calls several times a week for the past three years.

MARSHALL - A man and his girlfriend got into an argument over dogs and he shoved her to the floor, she said. When she tried to drive away, he smashed her car's rear window with a baseball bat. Deputies later found him sleeping in his vehicle and arrested him on charges of assault, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism.

INVERNESS - A thief stole fishing equipment, including a VHF radio and fishing poles, from a man's boat.

POINT REYES STATION - In what may be an online first for West Marin, a Raleigh, North Carolina resident, posted a suicide note in a local woman's e-mail. She notified Marin deputies, who asked North Carolina authorities to check on the man's welfare.

HICKS VALLEY - Deputies at 3 a.m. arrested a man on traffic warrants.

WOODACRE - Deputies received an anonymous complaint of a parked car blocking the roadway at Buckeye Circle.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman living along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard found a backpack marked "mines" on her property and moved it onto her deck. After she called deputies, two claymore mines were found on her property.

POINT REYES STATION - A resident complained that trucks delivering merchandise to a market were blocking the view of motorists pulling out onto Mesa Road. Deputies contacted the market's owner, who said she would speak to the truckers.

OLEMA - Deputies were called when two men refused to pay a bill at a restaurant. However, they were finally convinced to pay, and left. Simultaneously, another customer refused to pay a bill at a Stinson Beach restaurant but was finally convinced to do so.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on Calle del Mar reported someone had cut the lock off her shed during the night, but nothing was taken.

NICASIO - Repeated shots were heard in the Rancho Santa Marguerita area.

WOODACRE - Two people and their dog attempted to spend a night sleeping in a vehicle parked on Central Avenue, but deputies told them to move along.

STINSON BEACH - A man complained about loud music downtown at 9:30 p.m. The man said he believed juveniles were responsible, but they were gone by the time deputies arrived.

POINT REYES STATION - A bicycle was stolen at the school.

LAGUNITAS - A man complained about loud music on West Cintura Avenue at 6:30 p.m. A deputy contacted the person responsible, and he agreed to turn the music down.

STINSON BEACH - Three weeks ago, two strangers kidnapped a Novato youth, 17, who had met them on the beach, stole $200 by using his ATM card, and stole his car. This week, deputies identified two Stinson residents, one a juvenile and the other 22, as suspects in the case. Lt. Jim Riddell said the older suspect has cooperated with investigators.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road said a Mill Valley man had made lewd comments to her and tried to put out a cigarette in her eye. She also said he had a "vicious pit bull" with him. Deputies said they would investigate.

TOMALES - A resident complained of several homeless people camping in the town park. Deputies agreed to provide extra patrols in the area.

FOREST KNOLLS - The owner of property along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard said vandals keep spray painting over her no-trespassing sign.

FOREST KNOLLS - After a woman and her daughter posted signs that they had found a cat, someone left a message full of threats and swearing on their voice mail. They wondered if they two events were related.

TOMALES - Marin deputies received a report of a man beating a woman in a car at the county line. They referred the matter to Sonoma County deputies.

LAGUNITAS - A man reported receiving numerous hangup calls from a woman.

TOMALES - A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident said a friend of her husband had cut the chain off her gate, so she couldn't lock it.

OLEMA - A man, 52, and a woman were drinking in a bar when he put his hand up her back under her blouse and she responded by biting him on the shoulder. As a result, she said, she lost her job at another business in town. She asked that the man be charged with assault.

NICASIO - A rancher reported that someone had dumped a baby's bed and bags of garbage along the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Montezuma Avenue resident complained of a tree-trimming company's truck blocking her driveway. The truck was moved when deputies arrived.

TOCALOMA - A deputy spotted two horses eastbound on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The officer contacted a rancher, who rounded up the loose animals.

MARSHALL - A mudslide and boulders, one weighing about 300 pounds, partially blocked the Marshall-Petaluma Road. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that her landlord, 50, was banging on her door and refusing to leave. Deputies noted they had told the landlord to leave the property only an hour earlier. The landlord and tenant have an ongoing dispute.

TOMALES - A woman reported getting a "strange" call from a man who said he was handling collections for her bank and wanted $800. She then called the bank, which said she was not in arrears on any payments and that it had not turned her account over to a collection agency.

NICASIO - Deputies received a complaint of a powerboat on the reservoir, which is owned by Marin Municipal Water District. Officers contacted MMWD, but the district was unable to reach its ranger by radio.

POINT REYES STATION - A man on the main street remarked to a passing bartender, "You are the bartender that [another man] has said, 'Your time is coming on Western Weekend.'" The bartender said she has had problems before with the second man.

OLEMA - A woman left a wallet in a cart at the laundromat.

OLEMA - A guest at the campground complained of a loud radio in a nearby campsite although no people were present there. A deputy took the radio and later returned it to the owner.

HICKS VALLEY - On the night of May 7, a burglar used an ax to break into the Cheese Factory and stole cash, food, and a turn-of-the-century photo of company founder Jefferson Thompson. The historic photo is in an antique wooden frame, and company Business Administrator Kandace Aggio told The Light the Cheese Factory is anxious to get the 24-inch by 30-inch black-and-white photo back. She estimated the total loss at $7,000.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint of a homeless drunk man harassing customers at a bar and refusing to leave. The man, 42, was booked on loitering charges but released without charges being filed. Later the same day, a woman reported the man was lying in a ditch at Mesa and Olema-Bolinas roads.

BOLINAS - Deputies arrested a man at Brighton and Park avenues on three warrants.

POINT REYES STATION - The employee of a business had domestic problems, which were abated. She and her partner went home to Inverness Park, where they turned over a handgun to deputies for safekeeping.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that someone in a white vehicle had just stolen a street sign from the corner of Brighton and Altura avenues. Deputies could not find the culprit.

STINSON BEACH - A woman complained her car had been burglarized, but left before a deputy arrived.

RED ROCK - A burglar smashed the window of a car parked at the nude beach and stole a radio worth $600.

SAN GERONIMO -A woman on Creamery Road found a bicycle.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on Calle del Resaca was disturbed by loud music at the home of a neighbor, who was refusing to turn it down. Deputies abated the problem.

MARSHALL - A woman complained of finding harassing phone calls from another woman on her answering machine for a few months.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman's purse was stolen from a picnic bench along Highway 1.

LAGUNITAS - A man said 20 loud subjects were using a swimming hole on his property and refusing to leave. The people left without a problem when a deputy arrived.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman called deputies to say her boyfriend had grabbed her wrists and was refusing to let her drive because she had consumed a few drinks. He stood by outside the woman's house until an officer arrived and abated the dispute.

MARSHALL - Deputies at 11:45 p.m. received a complaint of a small group of fisherman with a fire fishing from private property. Deputies located the fishermen, who said they did not know they were on private property and would leave as soon as the fire burned itself out.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman saw a corpse hanging in an apartment on Mesa Road. Firefighters checked and determined the corpse was actually a wetsuit being hung out to dry.

SAN GERONIMO - A vehicle ran into a phone pole on San Geronimo Valley Drive at 10:30 p.m. Deputies asked county firefighters to respond.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road said she had previously let her boyfriend borrow her car and believed he had done so again without permission, although he was drunk.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman returned to her house to find her sex toys gathered up and placed in the shower. She asked for extra patrols in the neighborhood.

BOLINAS - A man complained that two other men were drinking on the street downtown and making obscene comments to passersby.

LAGUNITAS - A Forest Knolls man reported that five vehicles were dangerously parked near Shafter Bridge. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

INVERNESS - A resident at 1:30 a.m. complained that people in a minivan were sleeping in front of his house on Inverness Way. Deputies checked and found that the people were, in fact, lost.

BOLINAS - A very upset resident reported that a vehicle driven by a townsman had swerved toward two juveniles riding skateboards on Wharf Road. When the townsman was confronted, he reportedly replied, "Sorry, I didn't recognize you."

WOODACRE - A woman complained that her ex-husband was trying to pick up their children on a non-custody day. Deputies noted the ex-husband was not aggressive and agreed to give 24-hour advance notice for unscheduled time with his children.

STINSON BEACH - Someone left a fire unattended near Panoramic Highway and Highway 1.

POINT REYES STATION - A resident reported that a suspicious man was talking to children along Highway 1. Deputies who checked determined the man was merely waiting for a ride.

MARSHALL - A resident on the Marshall-Petaluma Road complained that he had arranged with a towing company to remove a car, but it had never done so.

May 9, 1996 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH - A man found drunk on Calle del Mar was taken to a detoxification facility in San Rafael.

TOMALES - Following a dispute, a motorcyclist kicked a gas station owner and drove off without paying. The motorcyclist was caught, and following a citizen's arrest, he was booked on charges of assault and petty theft, as well as a Sonoma County warrant from an assault case.

OLEMA - Deputies contacted a woman reported missing in Illinois and determined she is okay.

MARSHALL - A burglar stole two chainsaws from an unlocked shed along Highway 1.

BOLINAS - A woman reported a man in his 40s walking on Wharf Road was disturbing people with a "maniacal cackle." A deputy spotted the man, who was cackling as he walked up a hill, and checked his identification.

DILLON BEACH - After a state Fish and Game warden found a man fishing illegally, the man went into convulsions. The warden called county firefighters but had trouble dealing with him because of his three companions whom, he said, he "can't turn my back on." Deputies provided a backup.

CHILENO VALLEY - An elderly woman knocked over a lamp and couldn't lift it. She was afraid it would start a fire. A deputy helped her right the lamp.

WOODACRE - Deputies receiving a report of a man walking around Buckeye Circle while "grunting." Officers could not find him.

SAN GERONIMO - A resident complained a vandal had driven over plants and broke a water pipe.

INVERNESS - A woman reported having a quarrel with her adult daughter and said she wants her to move out.

DILLON BEACH - A merchant reported an unwanted woman, apparently high on drugs, in her vehicle on his property.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a report of loud music and yelling on Wharf Road at 3 a.m. Officers could not find anyone causing a disturbance.

STINSON BEACH - A resident complained of juveniles with two small fires on the beach at 1:15 a.m. One fire was reported to be near "some sort of straw thing." Deputies made the youths extinguish the fires and admonished them.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman ran out of gas on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road at 1 a.m. A deputy assisted her only to have her car get stuck in a ditch on Fourth Street at 2 a.m. when she attempted to make a U-turn.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received a report of a small fire and campers on the beach near Calle del Resaca at 2:15 a.m.

WOODACRE - A woman complained that a man, 40, who is staying in her house to help her disabled son, is not holding up his end of the agreement but is being verbally abusive to him. She said she wanted to "press charges."

BOLINAS - A woman reported that a homeless man from Olema is living in a van.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that four trees on her property were cut down and removed without permission.

TOMALES - A man reported two suspicious-looking men on Valley Ford Road. One was walking, the other riding a motorcycle, he said. A woman subsequently reported the two had stopped at her gate and asked for money.

BOLINAS - A drunk man complained that another man had assaulted him.

MARSHALL - Marin Municipal Water District reported a rancher, with whom it was having an access dispute, had blocked the access road to the Soulajule Reservoir with a large trailer. This prevented an MMWD contractor from reaching his job site, and the district asked deputies to have the trailer moved, saying the delay was expensive. Several days later at the reservoir, a fisherman failed to adequately set his car's brake, and it rolled into the Soulajule. The rancher was unable to pull the car out with a tractor, so MMWD took over the next day.

DOGTOWN - Deputies received a report of a confused elderly woman walking on Highway 1, but officers could not find her.

STINSON BEACH - A 17-year-old boy from Novato met a group of young men drinking on the beach and after a while offered to take two of them to a party in Mill Valley. However, while driving his pickup truck up Panoramic Highway, one of the riders briefly stopped at a friend's house. Later the two twice feigned car sickness so he would stop again. The second time, they stuck a billy club in his face and threatened to kill him. They drove him to Mill Valley and forced him to give them his ATM card and identification number, which they used to take $200 from his account. They then headed back toward Stinson, dropping him off two miles above Highway 1 and abandoning his truck a mile further. The culprits are described as whites in their early 20s. One of them is a skinhead.

May 2, 1996 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO - A woman notified deputies that a female suspect, who was wanted on a warrant involving a drug and traffic-violation case, was in the area wearing a t-shirt and "a very short skirt." Deputies arrested the suspect.

INVERNESS - A credit card company sent a woman two unsolicited debit checks as a promotion to get her to pay bills with them. The woman threw them out at the postoffice, but someone apparently retrieved them from a recycling container and cashed them at two stores for a total of $111.

STINSON BEACH - Two people stole a keg of beer from a wedding reception at the community center. The keg was soon found but not its tap. Deputies noted a crowd of intoxicated young adults were having a party nearby.

POINT REYES STATION - A man at Coast Guard housing found a helium balloon with a note taped to it. The note claimed to have been sent by someone who had been kidnapped and was being held on a Point Reyes hill by a man in his 50s. It urged the finder to "Call police."

POINT REYES STATION - A store clerk spotted a San Francisco man stuffing a soda and sandwich into his pants before paying for them. The man was arrested on shoplifting charges.

NICASIO - A woman on Nicasio Valley Road complained that her horse fence had been cut and that she suspected a neighbor. The neighbor meanwhile asked deputies to hold 12 pistols and rifles for safekeeping following a family dispute.

TOMALES - A mother complained that a youth at the high school had sat on her daughter's lap and fondled her breast and crotch through her clothing. Deputies turned the case over to investigators.

INVERNESS - A man said someone had fired a gun three times outside his residence. He blamed another man. The second man said he didn't do it but knew who did. No charges were filed.

INVERNESS - A man rented six video tapes from a store and did not return them.

BOLINAS LAGOON - Audubon Canyon Ranch found a quantity of old, crystallized picric acid, which may have become explosive. The San Francisco Police Department Bomb Squad destroyed it.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies arrested a 42-year-old man for failing to appear in court to face drunk-driving charges.

INVERNESS PARK - A man called a resident and threatened his life. The man then went to the resident's home and tried to run over him with a car. The suspect fled but was captured at the Estero Trail in the National Seashore. He was jailed on charges of making a threat and assault with a deadly weapon.

BOLINAS - Two parents involved in a custody fight over their children got into a verbal dispute at midnight while intoxicated. A neighbor took the children for the night, and deputies separated the parents.

STINSON BEACH - A man offered to buy a house on Seadrift Road for $950,000. He wrote a check for $5,000 to open escrow, a check for $2,500 rent, and a check for $1,000 as a security deposit. As it turned out, all the checks were written on a closed account.

LAGUNITAS - Deputies received a report of a man and woman in a parked motorhome quarreling near Deadman's Curve.

STINSON BEACH - Two neighbors on Calle del Resaca got into a parking dispute.

INVERNESS - A resident complained of a van driving on Chicken Ranch Beach at 8 a.m.

LAGUNITAS - At 4 a.m. a resident reported that two bicycles had just been stolen from a home on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The victim said he heard a truck leaving the area. Deputies were unable to find the culprits.

SAN GERONIMO - Someone knocked down a $400 sign for a school fundraiser.

BOLINAS - Deputies dispersed a crowd of juveniles from the beach at Brighton Avenue about 12:30 a.m. One youth slipped and needed a Band-Aid.

OLEMA - A woman reported $100 had been stolen from her purse two weeks ago. Deputies noted there had been "numerous thefts" that day.

DOGTOWN - A woman said her husband had promised their car to a man, but he had never paid for it, and now she wanted it towed away. Deputies noted the car has been broken into and its stereo taken.

NICASIO - A Highway Patrolman found $17 beside Nicasio Valley Road and turned it over to sheriff's deputies.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint at 3 a.m. of a large crowd of juveniles causing a disturbance downtown by yelling and screaming, playing rap music, and riding back and forth on a loud motorcycle.

BOLINAS - A car was parked near the tennis courts when someone smashed its mirror, wrote graffiti on it, and stole its cellular phone.

BOLINAS - A woman complained of a motorcycle riding up and down the beach at night plus a large gathering with music, yelling, and screaming.

TOMALES - A trailer got stuck in a ditch on the Tomales-Petaluma Road.

TOMALES - The high school principal reported a student had assaulted another student on school property.

FOREST KNOLLS - The owner of a dog gave out a phone number to call if the dog's barking became a problem, but the number turned out to belong to a neighbor. The neighbor complained he was getting a lot of calls.

INVERNESS - A burglar broke into a home on Inverness Way and stole $970 plus a car phone.
