April 24, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES - Two drunk men, 33 and 38, got into a physical fight downtown. The fight was over when a deputy arrived, but each man wanted to place the other under citizen's arrest. Both were taken to jail.

BOLINAS - A mother took her eyes off her toddler for 10 minutes, and he wandered away from home. A family friend found the toddler with the family dog in tow a block and a half away.

BOLINAS - A couple got into a quarrel after the woman kicked the man's dog. In the ensuing argument, the man, who had been drinking, bumped or pushed the woman, she said. He was arrested on domestic-abuse charges.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint of a homeless man, 57, yelling and screaming, as well as jumping in and out of traffic. An officer reported the man is manic depressive and has not been taking his medication. He was transported to the county crisis unit.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A deputy arrested a man on warrants as well as on charges of public drunkenness and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

NICASIO - A deputy assisted the San Anselmo Police Department in following up on a theft.

BOLINAS - A woman reported a disoriented man was walking on Mesa Road toward the RCA station.

MARSHALL - A car driven by a woman, who works in Point Reyes Station, overturned on rain-slick pavement. She was not seriously injured.

DILLON BEACH - A man complained of vehicles illegally parked near the postoffice. The vehicles were gone by the time a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that a drunken, homeless woman was harassing people on Wharf Road. A deputy determined she was not drunk.

NICASIO - A woman complained that a parked vehicle was blocking a fire gate. A deputy could not find the vehicle.

BOLINAS - A man reported his emotionally unstable adult son was threatening him and his wife.

WOODACRE - A woman reported hearing a gunshot in the Railroad Avenue-Central Avenue area. A deputy determined the sound was not from a gun but a tree falling.

BOLINAS - An Elm Road resident complained at midnight of loud music. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH - A man reported hearing a woman yelling for help at 10:15 p.m. Deputies traced the noise to a small, adult party.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman at 10:15 p.m. reported eight juveniles drinking and smoking on Forest Drive. She said there have previously been gasoline thefts and vandalism in the area. Deputies dispersed the gathering.

WOODACRE - A woman called deputies at 9:15 p.m. to complain of loud music. When a deputy returned the call, she was the music was now "not too loud." She said she would call back if it got worse.

NICASIO - A man complained at 10 p.m. that a large gathering of juveniles in the town square was being rude, blocking traffic, and had stashed a keg of beer nearby.

TOMALES - After a bar kicked out a man, he returned the next day and refused to leave. However, he was gone when a deputy arrived.

LAGUNITAS - A six-year-old boy got lost in Samuel P. Taylor Park. He was found in good condition after an all-night search.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman complained of someone sleeping in a car for the past several months. A deputy contacted the motorist and advised the motorist to move on.

STINSON BEACH - A car burglar struck five vehicles parked on Seadrift Road. One vehicle owner lost a compact-disc player. Two others lost cellular phones, one valued at $293.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman from a restaurant reported four teenage girls had left without paying their $8 tab, complaining that the food made them sick. She said the girls were possibly drunk. A deputy could not find the girls, and when he tried to speak with the woman, she walked away from him.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Montezuma Avenue man reported a 4-foot-by-4-foot sink hole has opened up on his property. Deputies asked the county Department of Public Works to investigate.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on Calle del Arroyo reported hearing a gunshot at 9:15 p.m. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A woman reported a fallen tree was partially blocking the eastbound lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies notified the county Department of Public Works.

STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Mar resident saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt running down the resident's driveway at 11 p.m. The resident gave chase, but the man disappeared.

WOODACRE - A Laurel Avenue man reported his wife had passed out, possibly from drinking. Deputies referred the matter to county paramedics.

BOLINAS - A citizen reported that a drunk man with beer cans all around him was passed out in an alley off Wharf Road. The citizen said that when he kicked the man in the feet, the man did not wake up. However, the man was gone when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS - A resident complained of four people building a bonfire on the beach at 9:30 a.m. Deputies contacted the four and later reported the fire was out.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had been making harassing phone calls to her for the past two to three weeks.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Resaca Avenue complained of having troubles with her landlord.

STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Mar resident reported juveniles traveling by motorbike had been tearing out fence posts and throwing them in a gully. A deputy promised extra patrols in the area.

LAGUNITAS - A man heard a child screaming to its mother, "Let me in." He later told deputies the crying stopped in five minutes; however, he asked officers to check on the child's welfare. The child was fine.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA RD. - The Highway Patrol asked deputies to look for a large Holstein on the roadway. The cow was gone when an officer arrived.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man reported that a hostile, uncooperative woman was suicidal and needed to be transported to the county crisis unit. Deputies instead arrested her on charges of public drunkenness.

BOLINAS - Two men had a verbal confrontation when one took pictures of the other's property. The photographer told deputies the property owner had threatened him unless he quit.

OLEMA - Two girls reported a man tried to run them off the roadway. Deputies referred the case to the Highway Patrol.

April 17, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

OLEMA - A deputy cited a Point Reyes Station motorist for driving an unregistered vehicle and broken tail lights. The vehicle was impounded. The same motorist earlier reported a vandal had broken a ceramic pelican at the gate to someone else's ranch.

OLEMA - A deputy arrested a 51-year-old homeless man on public drunkenness charges after a business complained about him.

OLEMA - Deputies took an 18-year-old homeless man to the county crisis unit. The man, who is on medication, had left his father's home in Sacramento barefoot.

STINSON BEACH - After a woman lost a stainless-steel knife from her home, she told deputies she thinks someone may have a key because small things have been disappearing for two years.

TOMALES - A woman reported that a thief stole a cellular phone from a pickup truck belonging to a ranch along the Dillon Beach Road.

BOLINAS - A male motorist hit a parked car and drove off. The car's owner gave chase and found the motorist outside the man's Wharf Road home. The Highway Patrol arrested the motorist on hit-run charges.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that an appointment book had been stolen from her home and that someone had tried to cash a check on her account.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road arrested a woman on drunk-driving charges and turned her over to the Highway Patrol.

TOMALES - Two young women got into a physical fight over money owed to one woman's ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend is now the other woman's boyfriend. Both women received minor injuries, and deputies turned the case over to the District Attorney.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman reported her son, 32, had been released the previous day from a detoxification program but was now drunk at an oyster company. She said company staff had taken away his car keys, but she also needed help from deputies.

WOODACRE - A Railroad Avenue woman complained that her ex-husband was outside, wanting to move his boat into her garage. She had locked herself inside, and her roommate was leaving with her children, she said.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that her 54-year-old boyfriend had thrown her down a staircase.

BOLINAS - A woman complained about a bus parked on Wharf Road four days with people living in it. A deputy spoke with the people, who moved the bus and said they would be leaving town.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Tamal Road woman said her neighbors have been harassing her for months. Deputies gave her advice.

BOLINAS - A man reported eight people outside his Ocean Avenue home at 2:30 a.m. He said four were on one side of the house and four on the other. All eight were gone when a deputy arrived.

WOODACRE - County firefighters asked for help in dealing with an Alzheimer's patient who had wandered away from home. A deputy took the woman home.

STINSON BEACH - After a Seadrift Road resident fell in the shower, a deputy stood by until medical help arrived.

LAGUNITAS - A property owner complained of trespassers on both sides of San Geronimo Valley Creek.

BOLINAS - A vehicle ran into a ditch at Overlook Drive and Poplar Road, breaking a utility pole's guy wire.

BOLINAS - A nighttime vandal smashed the passenger window of a Santa Rosa man's car.

NICASIO - A woman complained that her neighbors, with whom she shares a water tank, vandalized her water line to attach a water meter.

STINSON BEACH - A man told deputies an autistic male motorist verbally abuses people. The man said he is worried the motorist may be assaulted by someone who doesn't understand his medical condition.

WOODACRE - A man said six or seven juveniles were playing in a creek, which he thinks is hazardous because of water, rocks, and steep banks. The juveniles were gone when a deputy arrived.

WOODACRE - A citizen told Fairfax Police that he heard a child say his mother has gouged his eyes. The citizen said he has seen boy's mother yelling at him and thinks both parents do drugs. Police forwarded the information to deputies.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA RD. - A motorist was spotted shooting into a ranch. The motorist left after ranch staff called deputies.

BOLINAS - A teenage boy who was unable to communicate was found. The boy's foster mother took him home.

POINT REYES STATION - A man fell off a stool in a bar and struck his head. A friend took him home.

STINSON BEACH - A man complained that 40 juveniles with alcohol were in front of the firehouse at 11 p.m. A deputy dispersed the group, who did not have any alcohol.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received a complaint about a loud party on Cypress Road at 12:30 a.m. An officer contacted the hosts, who agreed to quiet the party down.

LAGUNITAS - A 16-year-old Inverness boy called deputies at 2:45 a.m. to say he needed a ride home, but his mother's phone was off the hook.

BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue woman complained at 4 a.m. that her ex-boyfriend was in her residence. When deputies called her back, she said she didn't want to talk to them and would get her ex-boyfriend to leave in the morning.

INVERNESS - A man complained of loud music on Douglass Street at 10:30 p.m. A deputy contacted the resident, who agreed to stop the music for the evening.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman complained about loud music from a house on Vallejo Avenue at 11 p.m. A deputy contacted the resident, who agreed to turn the music off for the night.

BOLINAS - A man complained of two men camping on the beach near his house at 6:40 a.m. A deputy advised them to leave.

INVERNESS PARK - A man said his ex-wife was refusing to leave his house. She does not live there, and he wants her out, he told deputies. Officers separated both parties and gave them advice.

FOREST KNOLLS - Two women got into a physical fight on Juarez Avenue at 7 p.m.

April 10, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A thief stole a $900 chainsaw from a resident living along Highway 1.

LAGUNITAS - A car driven by a Bolinas man was hit with water balloons coming from a hillside across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from the postoffice. A deputy could find neither evidence nor witnesses.

WOODACRE - A woman motorist reported being tailgated by a four-wheel-drive vehicle with five teenaged occupants, including a blonde female driver. The woman said the vehicle was also passing other cars illegally.

TOMALES - A woman living on First Street interrupted two men breaking into her car. They fled in a white pickup, taking nothing from the car.

POINT REYES STATION - A drunk tenant threw a fence at a gas tank, breaking a propane line. A deputy separated the landlord and tenant.

WOODACRE - A woman reported an 11 year old and 13 year old vandalized her fence and a reflector in February by throwing rocks and pulling the fence apart.

BOLINAS - A man reported vandalism to a vending machine, but a deputy determined the damage was not vandalism and gave advice.

INVERNESS - A car ran into a ditch, but no one was injured. Deputies referred the mishap to the Highway Patrol.

LAGUNITAS - A state park employee forwarded to deputies a report of a quarrel at a business. Deputies said a motorcyclist was upset that another man, who is handling the estate of the cyclist's late brother, is selling one of the brother's vehicles to someone else.

DILLON BEACH - A resort owner reported that five men were drinking when one of them, who had a knife, said he was going to stab someone. Two men, who said they had just met the threatening man that day, waited with the resort owner for deputies to arrive.

LAGUNITAS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident reported a strange car parked on his property and asked to have it towed. A deputy traced the car's ownership to a Forest Knolls couple and began trying to contact them.

BOLINAS - A deputy helped a motorist, who was locked out of a car parked on Wharf Road, get inside.

NICASIO - A woman complained that a drunk man in his 40s was quarreling with her roommate and refusing to leave. However, the man left before deputies arrived.

OLEMA - Petaluma police reported an incident of spousal abuse, which occurred at a campsite.

OLEMA - Deputies referred a traffic accident on Bear Valley Road to the Highway Patrol and Park Service rangers.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received a complaint of two men refusing to leave private property on Seadrift Road. However, they were gone before officers arrived.

NICASIO - A locksmith's van slid off Lucas Valley Road. The locksmith, who had no money or credit cards with him, used a cellular phone to call his wife, who called deputies for help.

STINSON BEACH - A 16-year-old boy was arrested on grand-theft charges after he allegedly stole jewelry from his mother.

BOLINAS - A resident spotted a blue, domed tent on the Mesa and told deputies he didn't know if it was occupied. A deputy checked but found no one.

SAN GERONIMO - Deputies arrested a San Geronimo man near the school at 2 a.m. on drunk-driving charges.

STINSON BEACH - A resident along Highway 1 complained of a couple quarreling, slamming doors, and banging on the walls at 2 a.m. A deputy contacted the couple, who agreed to go to bed for the night.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman said she believes someone is living in a storage area along Highway 1 and smoking marijuana. A deputy referred her to the county Planning Department.

POINT REYES STATION - A vehicle ran into a ditch along Highway 1.

STINSON BEACH - A woman complained about 20 people in the town park with a loud boombox at 4:30 p.m. The disturbance was abated before a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies reported needing to break through the door of a residence to reach someone in a medical emergency who could be seen through a window.

TOMALES - A woman asked to speak with a deputy about cruelty toward animals on a ranch. An officer referred the matter to the Humane Society.

POINT REYES STATION - A three year old at the Coast Guard housing complex received a back injury after jumping from a fourth step and landing on his bottom.

DILLON BEACH - A resort owner reported 100 under-age drinkers being noisy. A deputy later reported the group was dispersing and being cooperative.

INVERNESS - A neighbor complained of juvenile partygoers on a Douglass Street roof at 11 p.m., yelling and playing loud music. Deputies contacted the host, who agreed to keep the noise down and the juveniles inside.

DILLON BEACH - A man struck his wife with a closed fist following an argument.

April 3, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

MARSHALL - A burglar pried open the door to a residence and stole a man's television and video recorder.

TOMALES - A deputy found a keg of beer after breaking up a large party on Martinoni Road at 11:30 p.m.

BOLINAS - A bar complained about a homeless man refusing to leave. Deputies found the man drinking outside and arrested him on charges of public drunkenness.

DILLON BEACH - A boy invited a girl to his campsite and then grabbed her "inappropriately," her father reported. Deputies could not find the boy.

INVERNESS - Someone stole a toolbox and tools from a woman's residence on Laurel Avenue after she was evicted, she told deputies.

POINT REYES STATION - A man left a jacket in a restaurant. When he returned for it, the jacket was gone.

TOMALES - A woman reported being followed by a man driving an expensive car.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman told deputies her daughter had run away.

POINT REYES STATION - A vandal threw rocks through seven windows of a business. The rocks are now being checked for fingerprints.

BOLINAS - A vandal smashed two lights behind the postoffice.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies cited a 17-year-old boy to Juvenile Probation after he allegedly stole $100 from his mother's purse last month.

INVERNESS - A Park Avenue man reported his cell phone had been stolen.

MARSHALL - A woman complained that her neighbor, whom she barely knew, had walked into her house and was acting bizarre and paranoid. Deputies placed the man in the county crisis unit.

CHILENO VALLEY - A thief stole tools from a man's pickup truck, which was parked on a ranch.

BOLINAS - After a man totaled his car, he had it towed to a lot on Yucca Road. While it was parked there, a burglar smashed a wing window and stole a spare tire, loudspeakers, and other property.

NICASIO - A man called deputies after a neighbor warned him that "two hippie types, ear rings in nose," had asked for his address.

STINSON BEACH - While their parents were on the beach, two brothers, 17 and 20, got into a fight downtown. The younger brother was "thrown on the ground and punched out," deputies reported. Neither brother was seriously injured, and no charges were filed.

INVERNESS - A Santa Cruz woman reported losing her cell phone somewhere between Santa Cruz and Inverness.

POINT REYES STATION - A man complained about debris from a business blowing down Mesa Road. Deputies said they would ask the business owner to clean up the litter and advised the man to call the county Health Department.

DILLON BEACH - A resort owner at 1:15 a.m. took several cases of beer from juveniles, who afterwards calmed down and decided to spend the night.

STINSON BEACH - A resident complained of drunken boys in the middle of the roadway at Calle del Mar and Highway 1. The called said the two, who were wearing baggy pants and baseball caps on backwards, were banging on cars and harassing people.

CHILENO VALLEY - Deputies received a report of a loose cow on a roadway and attempted to contact the owner.

INVERNESS - A woman reported hearing a group of juveniles at the school at 10:45 p.m. She said it sounded as if they could be breaking bottles. A deputy found nothing wrong at the school but picked up two boys and took them home to their mother.

LAGUNITAS - A resident of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard complained about men in a car playing music loudly, "whooping, and hollering" at 2 a.m.

BOLINAS - A merchant reported a homeless man and woman were beating each other up on Wharf Road. A deputy separated the pair, but determined the disturbance was not physical.

BOLINAS - A firefighter reported a car blocking Brighton Avenue so that large fire rigs could not get through.

STINSON BEACH - Several townspeople reported a woman with something over her head lying unresponsive near the intersection of Panoramic Highway and Highway 1.

BOLINAS - A resident complained that a Jet Skier was buzzing Brighton Beach swimmers within 10 feet at 30 miles per hour. A deputy could not find the Jet Skier.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A man found a disoriented woman wandering in the park and took her to the firehouse in Point Reyes Station.

STINSON BEACH - Park police reported a large party in a parking lot. There was also a second group in the parking lot, and police reported hearing threats, adding that a gun might be involved. Deputies determined there was no gun.

FOREST KNOLLS - A resident complained that a beatup car had been parked on Rosario Road and that a man was sleeping on a hill nearby. The man was gone when deputies arrived.

WOODACRE - A man walked into the firehouse and said he wanted to talk with a deputy about a community problem and a slow driver.

WOODACRE - A woman reported her neighbors have been harassing her, cutting her off on the road and following her home. She said she does not know why the family is harassing her but that it's been going on awhile. She asked what to do and was given advice.

DILLON BEACH - A woman called 911 at 4:30 a.m. to report a disturbance. The dispatcher could hear a man kicking something in the background and yelling obscenities. Deputies were told there was also a six-year-old child in the house, along with a dog that "may bite deputies." The disturbance was abated.

BOLINAS - A man complained he was hit by a woman, who works for a local nonprofit, and that her boyfriend was now harassing him. Deputies investigated.
