March 27, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES - While a man was fishing near the Walker Creek Bridge, a thief stole a fly rod, two reels, an extra butt for a fishing rod, and a rod case from his vehicle.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A burglar broke the window of a Petaluma woman's parked car and stole a backpack and camera.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A deputy assisted rangers in arresting a ranch worker who allegedly struck his live-in girlfriend.

POINT REYES STATION - A rancher told deputies a local man continually trespasses on his property and recently forced open a gate. The man said the rancher is his landlord whom, he claimed, is illegally trying to evict him and had put a new lock on the gate. A deputy advised the man against trespassing.

RED ROCK - A thief stole a Los Gatos man's backpack and wallet while he was on the nude beach.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road arrested a homeless woman on warrants after she was accused of causing a disturbance.

INVERNESS PARK - A husband and wife got into a quarrel which escalated. The wife said her husband, 52, grabbed her by the throat and choked her. He received scratches on his faced and shoulder when she pushed him away.

OLEMA - A female motorist left her credit card as a deposit when she bought gas, but she then drove off without signing the receipt. The credit card was rejected, but the woman later returned and paid for her gas.

INVERNESS - A boy told a townswoman he was abused by a school staffer, who hit him. A deputy determined there was no abuse and that the boy was refusing to obey the staffer. The officer transported the boy back to Dogtown.

NICASIO - A woman reported that two people had parked their motorcycle on a private road and disappeared. A deputy located them, checked their identification, and let them go.

INVERNESS PARK - A man told deputies that for two nights a suspicious pickup truck had parked on Portola Avenue for a couple of minutes and then driven off.

WOODACRE - A mentally disabled boy, 15, wandered away from home.

NICASIO - A Highway Patrolman reported two men, one of them carrying a rifle, walking through a field. Because of poor radio reception, deputies could not get more information.

DILLON BEACH - A woman reported that a dark pickup truck had driven into open space and that she could now hear numerous gunshots. Deputies speculated the truck's occupants might be trap shooting but could not find them.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman complained that a 19-year-old boy was drinking beer in front of the gas station. A deputy checked and found the person was a 21 year old drinking root beer.

INVERNESS PARK - A Dover Road woman, who hired workers to mill wood, paid for part of the milling but held back total payment when they refused to finish the job, she told deputies. She said the men then took some of her wood. Officers are investigating.

LIMANTOUR ROAD - Two women flagged down a motorist and said they needed help with their car. But the motorist didn't see a car and notified deputies instead. Deputies, in turn, notified rangers.

WOODACRE - A 52-year-old woman told deputies she has been feeling suicidal for 28 years. A deputy said she might be drunk although she didn't sound like it.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman complained that a man had entered her cabin and urinated all over her bed.

BOLINAS - A woman complained at 11:20 p.m. of loud music playing on Wharf Road for an hour. The disturbance was abated.

BOLINAS - An Olema-Bolinas Road woman complained at 1:45 a.m. of loud music from an adult party. A deputy contacted the host, who said the party was ending.

POINT REYES STATION - An elderly man on B Street told deputies he didn't know where his house is or how to get home. A deputy drove him home.

OLEMA - A woman said that while she was in a store 10 minutes, her bicycle was stolen. She later reported finding it.

SAN GERONIMO - A resident heard numerous vehicles heading up Chaparral Lane at 9:30 p.m., apparently for a party. A deputy dispersed the group.

BOLINAS - A merchant reported a "huge crowd" at night on Wharf Road. Deputies determined the crowd was the overflow of an audience who had shown up to hear a band. No laws were broken.

SAN GERONIMO - A restaurant worker found a possibly drunk man lying in the middle of Meadow Way. When the worker asked the man if he was okay, the man got up and headed toward the golf course. Deputies could not find him.

LAGUNITAS - A camper at Samuel P. Taylor Park complained of other campers with a loud boombox. A deputy contacted the campers, who agreed to turn the boombox off for the night.

WOODACRE - A man told deputies his daughter, 17, was at a party on Railroad Avenue when a burglar stole books, an ATM card, $20, and medicine from her car.

INVERNESS - A resident complained at 2:30 a.m. that rowdy people in a vacation rental were making too much noise. The people eventually turned down their music.

BOLINAS - A merchant complained that a group of loud men in their 30s wearing cowboy hats were drinking out front and refusing to leave. The men later left with a woman.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman, who is in litigation with a Forest Knolls man, said he showed up at her workplace and yelled at her. He finally went outside but refused to leave, she said.

STINSON BEACH - A merchant reported selling beer to a Mill Valley man whom, he said, walked to the town park and gave some to three juveniles. A deputy noted the juveniles appeared drunk but did not have any beer with them.

BOLINAS - A car on Wharf Road caught fire.

LAGUNITAS - A heavy-equipment operator told deputies a motorcyclist had threatened to shoot construction workers because they "looked" at his wife. A deputy contacted both parties, who agreed to resolve the problem peaceably. The officer concluded the report of a threat was without merit.

INVERNESS - A man in Seahaven reported hearing a burglar alarm sounding across the bay in Marshall. A deputy checked but found nothing amiss.

DILLON BEACH - A man told another man's wife he planned to shoot her husband. The husband said the man is wanted by police in connection with a traffic accident.

OLEMA - A citizen reported a man standing in the middle of Highway 1 reading "white papers." Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol. The man was gone when officers arrived.

WOODACRE - A man told deputies that after he and his girlfriend quarreled, she kicked him out of her house and asked deputies for special patrols to make sure he stayed away. Now, he said, she wants him to care for her dog at home. He asked deputies what to do, and was given advice.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman said that more than two years ago, a young boy may have molested her daughter, who was then a toddler.

BOLINAS - A foster father reported a 17-year-old girl had run away.

POINT REYES STATION - A man found keys on B Street and turned them in at the sheriff's substation.

March 20, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

OLEMA - On Dec. 17, a man had bought beer at a store, got mad at a clerk, and brandishing a knife chased the clerk out of the store. Since then, he has returned to the store periodically and yelled profanities at the clerk. Each time, the man left, however, before deputies arrived. Finally last week, deputies were able to track the man to Jewell and arrested him on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

TOCALOMA - A woman received an obscene phone call.

BOLINAS - A deputy arrested a homeless woman on charges of public drunkenness. Three days later, she was arrested again - this time on charges of public drunkenness and resisting arrest.

STINSON BEACH - A motorist drove through the Seadrift subdivision gate, damaging it. A video camera recorded the license plate number of the car, which was traced to a Novato resident.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint about a drunk man on Wharf Road who was possibly threatening people. Officers arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness and on outstanding warrants.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman notified deputies a worker on her ranch had found equipment for growing marijuana. However, no pot patch was found. Deputies took the equipment as evidence.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that a white truck was driving recklessly near the tennis courts and was now in the middle of the park. She said the truck may have knocked down several no-parking signs, then driven into the park and gotten stuck.

LAGUNITAS - The county fire department reported an unknown person was at the fire lookout on Mount Barnabe. A deputy could not find the person.

BOLINAS - A woman said that from her roof she could see three or four men fighting in front of a store. She then reported they had left.

BOLINAS - A man complained of loud people at the entrance to Brighton Beach at 11 p.m. A deputy contacted them, and they agreed to keep their music down.

BOLINAS - A woman at 2 a.m. told deputies that five or six teenagers at Locust and Poplar roads were being noisy and refusing to leave.

BOLINAS - A woman at 4:30 a.m. notified deputies that a Mesa Road resident was fighting with his girlfriend. The woman said she had heard yelling and screaming and that the man had thrown furniture outside.

WOODACRE - A tenant complained of a landlord insisting on entering the tenant's home without giving 24-hour advance notice. A deputy gave the landlord advice and moved him along.

WOODACRE - A woman called deputies to say her ex-boyfriend was breaking into her home through a bathroom window. The man eventually left, and deputies gave the woman advice.

TOMALES - A woman phoned deputies to say she wants someone to take her baby away. A deputy checked and determined there was a family dispute.

BOLINAS - Deputies at 10:30 p.m. received a complaint of campers with a tent and fire on the beach. They were gone when an officer arrived.

DILLON BEACH - A resort owner reported a group of minors had arrived that morning with a large amount of alcohol and had already been drinking. The owner told them they would have to pour out their alcohol or leave. They were now packing their vehicle, he said.

NICASIO - A motorist told deputies a man in his 20s was holding a gun to the back of a woman, 65. The motorist doubled back to take a second look, and by then the pair were gone. Deputies could not find them.

MARSHALL - A woman reported that three men were shooting rifles near Marconi Cove. A deputy who checked found the men were skeet shooting.

LAGUNITAS - A woman reported that several vehicles parked at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Lagunitas Road were broken into during the past week.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that a tow truck pulling a junked car had been parked in front of the library two days. A deputy determined no law had been broken.

BOLINAS - A woman told deputies that a man had towed an old truck with a flat tire and a rusty camper shell onto her property and often sleeps in it. She asked advice for getting rid of him and the vehicle.

WOODACRE - A neighbor complained that juveniles were holding a large party generating much traffic while their parents were away. A deputy dispersed the party.

LAGUNITAS - A man reported that a dazed man was walking on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 11:30 p.m. A deputy could not find him.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man heard two shots and a vehicle leaving the area at 5:30 a.m. A deputy could not find anything amiss.

BOLINAS - A mother called deputies to say her adult son was being verbally abusive and needed a talking to from deputies. She later called back to cancel the request.

POINT REYES STATION - An 88-year-old woman notified deputies there was a truck in her garden. A deputy determined the truck had crashed through her fence. The driver was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident.

OLEMA - After a homeless woman took to sneaking into the church at night to sleep, a deputy agreed to tell the woman to stop it.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman said the rear license plate of her car parked on Rosario Road had been stolen during the night.

WOODACRE - A resident reported two men used a truck to remove wood from open space land and then left.

NICASIO - A man reported three men in their 20s were trying to sell stolen stereo equipment in town. They were gone when a deputy arrived.

LAGUNITAS - A burglar stole $1,758 worth of power tools from the basement of a Lagunitas Road man's home.

March 13, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A woman said her ex-husband violated a court's restraining order by phoning and writing her about their child. The man told deputies he misunderstood the court order.

DOGTOWN - Deputies cited an adolescent boy to Juvenile Probation after he allegedly pulled a butcher knife on a school staffer. A week earlier, the boy was cited on charges of making a bogus 911 call.

BOLINAS - A woman called the post office using another woman's name and asked about her mail. The true boxholder filed a suspicious circumstances report.

TOMALES - A sheep rancher put flashing lights along his fence plus three in his pasture to frighten off coyotes. Someone stole the three in his pasture, and coyotes killed a lamb. After the rancher started telling people, a man found the three lights in his brother's yard downtown and returned them.

BOLINAS - A woman said another woman left a message on her answering machine in violation of a court order.

OLEMA VALLEY - A man called deputies from Inverness Park to report a drunken woman was suicidal. Officers found her dressed in black lingerie south of Five Brooks. She had superficial cuts on her chest, wrists, and thighs, and was taken to the county crisis unit.

OLEMA - A woman told deputies a man had gone to his grandmother's house in violation of a court order. An officer gave her civil-law advice.

MARSHALL - A vandal slashed the front tires and damaged the door of an oyster company's truck.

CHILENO VALLEY - A woman complained that a man in his 40s was trespassing on her property. She warned deputies he had a gun in his car.

FOREST KNOLLS - A resident said a man about 25 years old was hanging around his property while trying to hitch a ride. A deputy checked the man's identification and noted he had not broken any law.

WOODACRE - A man told a dispatcher someone had built a treehouse on an acre he owns on Hill Ave. He asked how to handle the situation. When an officer tried to call him back, there was no answer.

DOGTOWN - A homeowner asked a deputy for advice in dealing with a former owner's coming back on the property and removing things.

SAN GERONIMO - Deputies received a report of a traffic accident with possible injuries at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road. They notified the Highway Patrol.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Juarez Avenue man said a woman was trespassing on his property and trying to take a washing machine. Deputies later reported that a dispute over a washer and dryer had been abated, and the two parties were now separated.

STINSON BEACH - A businesswoman told a deputy she feared she had taken bad travelers' checks.

POINT REYES STATION - A six-year-old girl showed up at the school, which she does not attend. She said she didn't know where her parents were or why she was there. The girl's mother was later contacted, and she retrieved her daughter.

BOLINAS - A merchant on Wharf Road accused a homeless woman of harassing customers and said the woman had been in a minor argument outside with a homeless man. A deputy determined the woman was not drunk and abated the problem.

FOREST KNOLLS - A juvenile on Montezuma Avenue called a telephone operator and asked for 911 but would not say what the emergency was. A deputy could not find anything amiss.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received a complaint of a loud party of juveniles at 10 p.m. on Cypress Road. A resident said the youths were yelling, racing cars, and playing loud music. When an officer contacted the group, most left, and the rest agreed to keep the noise down.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received reports of several people wrapping toilet paper around two vehicles parked along Highway 1. The vehicles were not damaged.

WOODACRE - A man told deputies he felt his landlords had tapped his phone line. An officer determined the line was not tapped.

BOLINAS - A man reported two people with a bonfire were camped on Brighton Beach. A deputy could not find them.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A tractor caught fire on a Pierce Point Road ranch where someone had created a disturbance the previous day.

FOREST KNOLLS - Two neighbors had a dispute over a cat, and when one of their cars was scratched during the night, that neighbor said the other may have done it.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a report of a drunk man wandering through the downtown area and rummaging in the free box. An officer could not find him.

BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue resident complained at 5 p.m. that a group of juveniles were playing loud music. The group agreed to turn the music down.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman was trying to phone another woman when she got a man who sounded drunk, recited poetry, and talked of wrist slashing and blood. She told deputies he sounded suicidal.

BOLINAS - A school-bus driver said a car, which had cut her off twice, was now parked behind a business in town.

March 6, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

DILLON BEACH - Deputies stood by while a landlord served eviction papers on a woman.

POINT REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman reported someone had put a caustic substance on her horse's rump, causing a burn that required medical attention.

OLEMA - A man told officers that another man, who had chased him out of a business at knifepoint in December, was back in the business. The suspect was gone when deputies arrived.

TOMALES - Nighttime burglars drilled holes in the soda-vending machines in the high school gym and stole all the coins.

BOLINAS - A thief stole a roll of barbed wire from the bed of a man's pickup truck, which was parked on Wharf Road.

INVERNESS PARK - A carpenter reported someone had unsuccessfully tried to pry open the door of a garage at a house under construction on Sunnyside Drive.

DOGTOWN - A juvenile, who made a 911 hangup call, was cited on charges of making a harassing phone call.

INVERNESS PARK - A burglar stole $1,300 worth of gardening and power tools from a shop on Sunnyside Drive.

INVERNESS PARK - A deputy was in a minor automobile accident when his patrolcar slid into a phone pole on a wet curve at Drakes View and Roberts drives.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received a report of a loose horse on the roadway at Panoramic Highway and Highway 1. The Humane Society could not find it.

LAGUNITAS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident reported hearing noise outside at 6 a.m. and told deputies someone might be stealing logs from her neighbors' woodpile. Deputies checked the area.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman reported that another woman in her 40s was staggering all over town. A deputy contacted the second woman and reported that although she appeared intoxicated, she was actually recovering from severe medical problems.

LAGUNITAS - A Lagunitas Road man at 12:45 a.m. reported hearing a fight. Deputies contacted two women, who said there was no fight - just loud talking.

FOREST KNOLLS - A tree fell onto the pavement at Arroyo Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Firefighters cleared away the tree.

WOODACRE - A woman at 10:30 p.m. complained of a very loud party in the area of Madrone Avenue. A deputy contacted the celebrants, who said they would turn the music down.

BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue woman at 9:30 p.m. complained about a noisy group of juveniles. Deputies could not find them.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman accused a second woman of disturbing the peace on Juarez Avenue. The problem was abated before a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint of 20 juveniles gathered with a large fire at 10:30 p.m. A deputy later reported the fire was out and that the juveniles had agreed to leave.

STINSON BEACH - A man complained of a loud party on Seadrift Road at 2 a.m., with some partygoers playing bongo drums on the beach. A deputy contacted the host, who agreed to move the party indoors and to stop the bongos.

LAGUNITAS - A business owner called deputies at 10 a.m. to say an employee was supposed to bring the business' cash to her home when the business closed for the evening, but the other woman hadn't done so. The owner asked deputies to check the business. She later called back to say the employee had stopped at a friend's house.

TOMALES - Deputies received a 911 hangup call. When they called back, a woman, who sounded drunk, answered. Her husband said she had hit him. She then told officers he was drunk. The problem was abated before deputies arrived.

BOLINAS - A juvenile was cited on charges of making a bogus 911 hangup call from Olema.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man reported thieves had stolen three chainsaws from his pickup truck in the last three days.

INVERNESS - A woman told deputies that a man, who was possibly drunk, was walking along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard mumbling to himself. Officers could not find him.

POINT REYES STATION - A manager reported alarms going off in her business and asked deputies to check. Officers determined a blackout had triggered the alarms.

BOLINAS - A man attacked another man on Wharf Road, destroying a bench at the same time. Deputies reported the victim was okay, but his assailant could not be found.

INVERNESS PARK - A platform for holding garbage cans was vandalized, possibly by a motorist who used part of the platform to free a vehicle from a ditch along Drake's View Drive.

TOMALES - A boy left a bag on a school bus. The bag contained marijuana, and the boy admitted to high school staff that it was his.

FOREST KNOLLS - A vandal smashed night lights on a Montezuma Avenue man's property.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A woman suffered a severe break to an upper arm in a fall while hiking at Arch Rock. Paramedics arranged for her to be airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.
