February 27, 1997 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A deputy cited a Petaluma woman and a Rohnert Park woman on charges of illegally camping overnight (with a fire) on Brighton Beach.

STINSON BEACH - A burglar broke into a Seadrift Road home through a kitchen window and removed numerous valuable items. Deputies said the evidence indicated the burglar had spent considerable time in the house.

DOGTOWN - A deputy cited a juvenile on charges of being out of adult control.

STINSON BEACH - A resident lost his wallet downtown.

TOMALES - Two cheerleaders reported being assaulted in Upper Lake by 12 other girls following a high school basketball game. Deputies here asked Lake County deputies to take a report.

TOCALOMA - A man said he was slipped LSD while in Calistoga. Irrational and angry, he was taken to a hospital.

BOLINAS - A deputy cited a husband and wife from Berkeley, a couple from North Carolina, and a woman from Lafayette on charges of illegally camping on Bolinas Beach.

BOLINAS - A man went to another man's house, threw records around, and left.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy cited a 17-year-old motorist on vandalism charges after he allegedly spun donuts on a school employee's front lawn.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman slashed her wrists and was taken to the county crisis unit.

STINSON BEACH - A thief took power tools from a Calle del Sierra man's porch.

HICKS VALLEY - A woman used a Lincoln School bench in an attempt to extricate her Jeep from a ditch. She admitted damaging the bench and agreed to buy the school a new one.

TOMALES - Two juveniles at the high school were cited on charges of possessing marijuana.

OLEMA - A woman punched a merchant in the arm several times, broke a bottle of Irish whiskey, and knocked over a shelf of potato chips.

TOMALES - A 17-year-old boy punched a 15-year-old boy because the younger boy called and woke him up in the morning to ask for a ride to school. The alleged assailant was cited to Juvenile Probation and suspended by the high school.

LAGUNITAS - A woman said her husband, 61, is manic depressive and had been getting angry. For the moment, she added, he was calm and talking to a friend.

FOREST KNOLLS - A resident arrived home to find a man sleeping in a car that was blocking the resident's driveway. The man moved his car but then went back to sleep.

POINT REYES STATION - A couple stole two scarves together worth $230 while a merchant was calling a credit card company because their card didn't work.

SAN GERONIMO - A deputy attempted to contact a resident whose 9 mm Barreta was found in the possession of a San Francisco man who couldn't explain how he got the gun.

BOLINAS - A Dogwood Road woman reported her laptop computer had been stolen.

BOLINAS - A man reported a possible break-in at a house under construction near the tennis courts.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman complained of harassing phone calls from a neighbor. A deputy determined there was no merit to the complaint and gave her advice and a medical referral.

TOMALES - A woman said her boyfriend took all her money out of her checking account. Earlier she reported her window had been broken, possibly by her boyfriend.

POINT REYES STATION - A resident reported a vehicle with three occupants was stuck in a ditch near the school. The vehicle was gone when deputies arrived.

JEWELL - A vehicle ran into a ditch, coming to a rest sticking part way into a traffic lane. Deputies noted the Highway Patrol would handle the mishap.

WOODACRE - A 60-year-old woman with Alzheimer's Disease showed up again at another woman's property. The disoriented woman was returned home.

SIR FRANCIS DRAKE BLVD - A man complained of people trespassing at the east end of the pipe across the Ink Wells. A deputy told them to leave and cited a car on charges of illegal parking.

INVERNESS - A merchant complained that four juveniles aged 13 to 15 were playing a guitar and begging outside his business. He said they had been in town two weeks. Deputies abated the problem.

LAGUNITAS - A woman said she was walking her dog when a neighbor threatened to kill it. A deputy gave her advice.

WOODACRE - A man reported his wallet had been stolen from his office. He later called back to say he had found the wallet, which had merely been misplaced.

STINSON BEACH - A mother found a gun in her son's room and noted he was already in trouble.

DILLON BEACH - A resident said four men were lurking around his car. They saw him looking at them and yelled, "What's your problem?" They then drove off.

STINSON BEACH - A resident reported that a man downstairs was being abusive and might be high on drugs. Deputies abated the problem and gave the resident advice.

STINSON BEACH - A PG&E worker found a Bolinas man's kayak that had washed ashore. The kayak, which had broken free from a dock, was returned to the owner.

STINSON BEACH - A bicyclist was taken by firefighters to a hospital after he received head injuries in a spill.

POINT REYES STATION - An Irish setter fell out of a pickup truck. The dog was later reunited with its owner.

BOLINAS - A deputy found a drunken man in a sleeping bag near the tennis courts. He was jailed but later released without formal charges.

POINT REYES STATION - Someone broke a shop window, and a vase was later stolen from the shop.

BOLINAS - A merchant complained that a drunken homeless woman was harassing passersby on Wharf Road. A deputy determined the woman was not drunk. However, deputies subsequently received a complaint that the woman was refusing to leave a store. She was then cited when the store agreed to make a citizen's arrest. Later in the week the woman was cited for repeatedly entering a bar, from which she has been permanently 86'd.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman reported her 17-year-old daughter had not returned home by 11:45 p.m. and might be in Sonoma County with her boyfriend. The girl later returned home.

TOMALES - A woman complained that her father had phoned her in violation of a court's restraining order. Deputies referred the complaint to the district attorney.

STINSON BEACH - A burglar entered a home on Seadrift Road and stole several thousand dollars worth of property.

BOLINAS - An anonymous caller told deputies a woman on Brighton Avenue was breaking things in her own home. When deputies arrived, the woman was gone, but they saw "many things broken." Officers later transported her to the county crisis unit.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies arrested a 28-year-old Nicasio man on a warrant from a public drunkenness case.

POINT REYES STATION - Two burglars stole lumber from a business during the night and departed in a small Ford pickup truck with its lights out.

POINT REYES STATION - A motorist ran into a woman's fence along Highway 1. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

WOODACRE - A business owner reported having trouble with a homeless schizophrenic. A deputy gave the owner advice.

LAGUNITAS - A man reported juveniles throwing water balloons at cars on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. When he later spotted them driving around, they yelled at him, he said.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman reported that her dog had killed her neighbors' cat. Although she had offered to "pay for everything," she said, they're harassing her. Deputies gave her advice.

FALLON - A man spotted an older man sleeping under a blanket beside the road. The man asked deputies to check on the older man's welfare, but they could not find him.

HICKS VALLEY - Deputies received a report of loose cows on a roadway. Deputies notified ranchers in the area.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A motorist encountered two men carrying beers walking down the road. When one began rolling on the pavement, the motorist had to slam on his brakes to miss him. The two men then yelled at the motorist, who drove off for his own safety.

DILLON BEACH - A woman called deputies to say her father had attacked her with her hands. The father, in turn, told officers his daughter had hit him. The girl's stepmother said she had asked the daughter to leave, and noted the daughter has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

LAGUNITAS - An alarm went off in a store at 1 a.m., possibly as a result of a BB being shot through a window.

POINT REYES STATION - A man reported that a vehicle with a female driver and two male passengers drove through town with the occupants throwing cans and bottles at roadsigns. He said there were also two cases of beer in the vehicle. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol.

STINSON BEACH - A restaurant complained that a man sitting on its patio was refusing to leave. Although he had left the restaurant the previous night without paying for his meal, he wanted to be served again. Deputies transported him to the county crisis unit.

FOUR CORNERS - Deputies at 1:30 a.m. received a report of a vehicle in a ditch near Nicasio Reservoir. Officers referred the mishap to the Highway Patrol.

STINSON BEACH - A man told a townsperson he was going to break into the community center because he wanted to go to jail. A deputy checked the identification of the man, who said he would not break in.

LAGUNITAS - A van high centered along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, partially blocking a traffic lane. Deputies arranged for a towing company to assist the van.

FOREST KNOLLS - A burglar broke into a store, stealing the cash register and several thousand dollars.

BOLINAS - A woman on Oak Road complained of loud music at 10:30 p.m. A deputy checked the area.

OLEMA VALLEY - Deputies received a report of a loose cow on Highway 1 but could not find it.

TOMALES - A man told deputies his son was skateboarding with some other juveniles at Highway 1 and Dillon Beach Road when a male motorist ran over their skateboard ramp and told one of the juveniles, "Next time, your head will be under the wheel."

NICASIO - A woman said a man had tried to flag her down at Nicasio Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. After he then followed her home, she hid. He got out of his vehicle but then left.

MARSHALL - A man said his father had sent him a letter in violation of a court's restraining order.

NICASIO - A man asked deputies to stand by while he retrieved a pet from a former tenant. Officers said county mediators would handle the case.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman complained of construction trucks speeding. Deputies agreed to provide extra patrols.

STINSON BEACH - A $400 sculpture was stolen from a gallery.

BOLINAS - A woman told deputies her boyfriend was arguing with a neighbor. She said the neighbor had driven his car into the back of her boyfriend's, breaking its tail light.

LAGUNITAS - A mother said her 15-year-old son, who is on probation for vandalism and possession of marijuana, is refusing to go to school. She asked that he be taken into custody.

LAGUNITAS - A man on West Cintura Avenue reported a white truck had pulled into his driveway, and the driver told him the driver of a red van had brandished a gun at him. The man said he had seen both vehicles drive by at high speeds.

FOREST KNOLLS - Two men got into an argument over $65. One hit the other in the face, but the victim did not wish to press charges.

February 13, 1997 Sheriff's Calls


TOMALES - A 73-year-old man from Chico visiting his daughter called deputies to report his son missing. The son, who is in his 40s, was carrying a gun and may be suicidal, the father said. The daughter later called deputies to say the father was now too missing and might also be suicidal. Petaluma Police found the father, and determined he was fine. The son remained missing.

NICASIO - A Novato man parked his car on Nicasio Valley Road and went for a bicycle ride. When he returned, he found all the door locks and the hatch lock punched out but nothing missing.

INVERNESS - When a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman returned home after a few days' absence, there was a message on her answering machine from another woman, who said, "F-ck you, bitch. I'm going to kill you."

BOLINAS - A woman reported that while she was shopping on Wharf Road, another woman spit in her face. Deputies noted the two have a civil-law dispute.

BOLINAS - A man complained of people camping with a tent on Brighton Beach. A deputy told them to "move on." When they were still there the next night, an officer cited them on charges of illegal camping.

STINSON BEACH - A burglar pried open the skylight of a woman's house on Seadrift Road. Nothing was stolen, but the burglar left his tools behind.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman complained that a man keeps placing a barricade in their common parking area on Buena Vista Avenue.

STINSON BEACH - A woman reported her 16-year-old son had apparently stolen $40 from her house and that she wanted him cited. A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION - A business reported that one customer stole another customer's wallet.

BOLINAS - A woman on Fern Avenue complained that a homeless man was living in his car parked beside her gate. She told deputies that when she told him to move on, he yelled at her, making her afraid. The man was gone when a deputy arrived.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Juarez Avenue man called deputies when his girlfriend and another man got into a quarrel outside. The girlfriend eventually retreated indoors, and the second man left just before a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH - A man reported a large bonfire near a house. Deputies referred the matter to the Stinson Beach Fire Department.

INVERNESS PARK - A man saw a parachute flare in the southern sky and thought it might be from a boat. A patrol deputy was put on alert.

FOREST KNOLLS - Deputies received a report of a daughter provoking her mother. The daughter left before an officer arrived.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint of a drunken woman causing a disturbance. The following day, a townsperson complained the woman was drinking beer on the street downtown, but she was gone before an officer arrived. Deputies finally arrested the woman on warrants from a disorderly conduct case.

STINSON BEACH - A woman reported that her 45-year-old son, who has lost his job and is going through a "bad divorce," had threatened to commit suicide.

OLEMA - A camper's vehicle was vandalized with spray paint.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received a report of a gunshot being fired from a house on Seadrift Road. An officer could not find anyone shooting.

INVERNESS - A deputy at 2:30 p.m. assisted a mother whose son would not let her sleep.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that a man, 41, who had gone to look for a job, was missing. The man was later located. He was drunk but otherwise okay. Her husband went to pick him up.

BOLINAS - A townsperson complained of a live band playing loudly downtown at 9 p.m. A deputy determined the music had come from a vehicle, which had left.

BOLINAS - The school reported a vandal had written graffiti on a building.

SAN GERONIMO - The school reported someone had dumped five boxes of garbage in a dumpster on school property. A janitor determined the person responsible, using a name in the garbage, and a deputy agreed to contact the culprit.

INVERNESS - A woman reported getting harassing phone calls ever since November. Although she changed her phone number, she said, the calls have resumed.

BOLINAS - An irate man told deputies a townswoman had tried to pull his vehicle over by flashing her car lights. Indignant that she then accused him of being a narcotics officer, he demanded to meet with a deputy to make a complaint.

BOLINAS - A woman complained of vandalism to her house on Wharf Road.

LAGUNITAS - A woman reported a homeless man was living in a wood shed behind a church. Deputies, who contacted the man, noted he laughs uncontrollably but is merely a harmless drifter.

INVERNESS - A burglar stole two chainsaws from a toolshed on Via de la Vista.

BOLINAS - A man charged with petty theft and receiving stolen property was jailed after his probation was revoked.

HICKS VALLEY - Deputies detained a 14-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl who were out at 2 a.m. without their parents' permission. The boy was cited on joyriding charges, and both were returned to their parents.

BOLINAS - A burglar entered a woman's car through its sunroof and stole a cellular phone.

STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Prado resident found two bicycles in a creek.

POINT REYES STATION - A bartender found a woman's purse and turned it over to deputies.

BOLINAS - A Horseshoe Hill Road resident asked deputies to keep a homeless man away from her house.

STINSON BEACH - The Highway Patrol asked deputies to look for a motorcycle, which the owner had reported as stolen. The CHP, however, suspected the owner merely forgot where he parked it.

INVERNESS PARK - Deputies received a call about a man and a woman having a loud quarrel along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

TOMALES - A man reported hearing eight to 10 gunshots plus dogs barking along the Tomales-Petaluma Road. A deputy checked and concluded the dogs were barking at a skunk and that the shots were coming from a shooting range.

BOLINAS - A merchant on Wharf Road complained that his vending machine had been vandalized.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man told deputies he wanted his ex-girlfriend to leave. He said they were not supposed to talk to each other unless a therapist was present. The woman eventually left.

BOLINAS - A merchant on Wharf Road complained that a drunk man was causing a disturbance, quarreling with other customers, and had taken a cup of coffee without paying.

NICASIO - A woman complained of vehicles driving on a fire road. A deputy found the vehicles and admonished the drivers.

CHILENO VALLEY - A woman notified deputies she had seen a 17-year-old boy get kicked twice in the head by a Sonoma County man earlier that day near Valley Ford. She said she was worried about the youth's welfare.

LAGUNITAS - A woman at 3 a.m. complained about a loud party at Lagunitas Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies contacted the partygoers, who agreed to keep the noise down.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received a report of juveniles fighting on Mesa Road. They were gone when officers arrived.

POINT REYES STATION - A Mesa Road man called deputies to say his wife was out of control. Officers noted they could hear something breaking in the background, but when they spoke to the wife, she said she was merely upset after a phone call from her daughter, who had been out of contact for months.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman said she was being stalked by another woman, who is in her 30s.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road reported a theft of food from an outdoor freezer. A witness told deputies he had seen a 16 year old with a skateboard steal the food.

NICASIO - A woman on Camino Marguerita reported hearing "one huge shot." Deputies could not find anyone shooting.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies arrested a man wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court in a traffic case.

BOLINAS - A woman at 11 p.m. heard a gunshot at Alder and Hawthorn roads. All was quiet when a deputy checked.

MARSHALL - A woman reported being threatened when she parked behind someone in her space on the Marshall-Petaluma Road.

BOLINAS - A businessman on Wharf Road complained of juveniles partying at night on his property. He said they shattered bottles, broke into a fenced patio, and moved furniture outside to sit on. Deputies gave him advice.
