December 30, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
ROCKY HILL - A driver was arrested on drunk driving charges after his car ran off the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and into an embankment.
MARSHALL - In unrelated accidents that occurred about the same time Monday morning, two cars ran off the Marshall-Petaluma Road east of the Gambonini Ranch. A victim from one crash was transported to a hospital by helicopter. A deputy reported the roadway was "wet and slick" at the time.
STINSON BEACH - A man in Mill Valley called West Marin deputies to say an ex-girlfriend, 28, was trespassing on his property along Marine Way. He said he wanted her removed, but the woman was gone when a deputy arrived.
WOODACRE - A woman at 6:45 p.m. reported that a man and woman were having a loud quarrel. The disturbance was abated before a deputy arrived.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman reported that an alcoholic was sleeping under a cover in the backseat of a parked vehicle. A deputy transported him to a detoxification center.
STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Mar woman at 10:40 a.m. reported a loud, gunshot-like sound but said she did not see anything unusual and could not pinpoint where the noise came from. No one was shooting when a deputy arrived.
FOUR CORNERS - A deputy found a car with all its airbags deployed but no one around it. The car was registered to a Novato resident, and a deputy reported he would try to find out if the resident knew where the car was. The Highway Patrol handled the rest of the accident.
INVERNESS PARK - A man called deputies to ask about the welfare of his wife's grandmother, who lives on Vallejo Avenue. An officer said the woman had been transported to a hospital that morning.
WOODACRE - A woman called deputies from Seattle to say she had learned that her estranged husband had gone through her house destroying things while she was away. An officer gave her advice.
BOLINAS - A caller complained about a large group of people making noise on Ocean Parkway while watching the sunset. The caller claimed that everyone in the group was drunk. However, the group had dispersed by the time a deputy arrived, and the officer found no one at the scene.
TOMALES - A man at 5 p.m. reported hearing someone firing five to 10 shots from a semi-automatic rifle. A deputy found a rancher target shooting, and the rancher agreed to stop for the evening.
LAGUNITAS - A 14-year-old girl reported her 40-year-old stepfather was abusive toward her. A deputy determined the two had merely quarreled.
WOODACRE - A woman at 7:30 a.m. reported a burglar alarm had been going off for the past hour. She said she could not tell if the alarm was in a car or a house.
OLEMA - After a calf got loose on Highway 1, a deputy herded it back into its pasture.
STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Mar woman reported that $450 had been stolen from her last fall. She said she believes the culprit is a convicted thief who was staying with her in the fall. The thefts for which he had been convicted occurred in the 1980s, she said.
NATIONAL SEASHORE - A man on Pierce Point Road at noon reported his 85-year-old uncle was missing from home. A deputy determined that Mill Valley police had earlier stopped the uncle for apparent reckless driving but then released him "and pointed him in the right direction, [but] he never made it."
OLEMA - Deputies received a report that an elderly woman was on the ground with chest pains along the Bear Valley Trail near Divide Meadow. However, she was breathing and conscious.
BOLINAS - A caller at 4:40 a.m. notified deputies that a man who works downtown at night was depressed over a breakup with his girlfriend, had been drinking, and was talking about killing himself. A deputy determined there was no merit to the reported suicide threat.
POINT REYES STATION - A nonprofit reported that a fire had been started on a pile of free magazines. A deputy noted that it appeared to be an old pile of magazines and that a match had been dropped accidentally on top of the pile.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman asked a deputy for advice regarding her husband and child. The officer gave her advice.
BOLINAS - A man found a wallet and turned it in at the firehouse.
FOREST KNOLLS - An officer in San Pablo found narcotics and a .40 caliber Berretta in a garage in that city. The gun was registered to a Forest Knolls man, so San Pablo police asked West Marin deputies to have the owner call San Pablo lawmen. However, the Forest Knolls man was not home, so a deputy left a note on his door.
WOODACRE - A woman reported that neighbors were leaving threatening messages on her answering machine. A deputy determined the messages were not threatening and gave her advice.
STINSON BEACH - The Highway Patrol asked deputies to be on the lookout for a white semi-truck and trailer carrying a load of black plastic pipe. The truck had been involved in a hit-run accident at Highway 1 and Calle del Arroyo. the CHP said.
DOGTOWN - A woman at 2 p.m. reported a calf was loose on Highway 1 north of Thirteen Turns near Hagmaier skinnydipping pond. A deputy notified the Highway Patrol, which was unable to find the calf.
WOODACRE - A woman complained that her ex-boyfriend keeps driving by her Rock Ridge Road house and her workplace. A deputy gave her advice.
LAGUNITAS - A man on Escondida Lane reported receiving a threatening fax. A deputy determined the fax was not threatening and gave the man advice.
STINSON BEACH - A contractor notified deputies that during the night a burglar had broken into a shed on Dipsea Road and stolen tools.
INVERNESS PARK - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman reported her son took the family car and left a one-year-old child home alone. A deputy cited the teenager on charges of child endangerment.
SAN GERONIMO - A Redwood Canyon Road resident at 6 p.m. reported a truck driving up and down streets in the area. The resident, who was concerned because of recent burglaries in the area, could not see the truck, only hear it.
CHILENO VALLEY - A rancher allowed a man to store property on his land. However, when he ordered him to leave and take his property with him, the rancher claimed, the man kept putting him off. Finally the rancher took a large piece of heavy, roadbuilding equipment and began crushing the man's property. The man then took out a pistol and fired it into the air. Both men later agreed the shot was not fired at the rancher, but the rancher said the shot went over his vehicle while the man said it went straight up. The man said he was afraid the heavy equipment was about to hit him and fired only to get the rancher's attention. However, the man then tried to dispose of the gun by throwing it into Lake Laguna, but it landed on the muddy shore and was retrieved by deputies. Officers arrested the man on charges of shooting in the direction of a vehicle.
WOODACRE - A woman on Madrone Avenue at 10:30 a.m. reported that four or five men were taking things out of van belonging to a neighbor, who wasn't there.
LAGUNITAS - A woman complained about another woman harassing small children riding bicycles on the second woman's property. A deputy spoke to all parties concerned and later reported, "Everything fine and worked out."
LUCAS VALLEY ROAD - A business at 3:15 p.m. reported a large moving van had accidentally dragged its trailer off the edge of the road and was blocking a lane and a half of traffic. The business said a large tow truck would be needed to free the van.
December 23, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
POINT REYES STATION - A nighttime vandal threw a rock through the window of a merchant's truck parked on Mesa Road.
BOLINAS - A deputy helped a Highway Patrolman find the address of a resident, whom officers wanted to question in connection with a shooting. San Francisco police on Monday shot to death a motorist who had led officers on a high-speed chase from Mountain View. The dead man was the resident's father.
BOLINAS - A Horseshoe Hill Road resident reported that a man in a red pickup truck was driving around residences in her neighborhood, asking if residents needed paving. She said the man had driven up her driveway and then quickly sped away.
WOODACRE - A Buckeye Circle resident complained about ongoing problems as he tries to build a fence. He said someone has been tearing down his private-property signs and filling in post holes with dirt.
FOREST KNOLLS - A mother at 6:30 p.m. reported her 13-year-old daughter was out of control, and a deputy gave her advice. The woman called back at 10:20 p.m. to say her daughter had now scratched her, pulled her hair, and stabbed her with a pencil. She said she had no way to get away from her daughter because the girl was blocking the doorway.
BOLINAS - A woman at 8:30 p.m. complained that a group of people in their early 20s were hanging out on Brighton Avenue, drinking alcohol, and playing loud music on stereos. She said it was an ongoing problem. The group was gone when a deputy arrived.
BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road at 10 p.m. complained to deputies about loud music coming from a vehicle.
OLEMA - A Highway 1 business at 11:45 p.m. asked deputies to remove "an unwanted subject." An officer determined the disturbance was coming from a law firm's Christmas party and asked the attorneys to quiet down.
STINSON BEACH - Two motorcycles were totally destroyed in a head-on collision a mile north of town on Highway 1. A deputy reported that a northbound motorcycle traveling at high speeds crossed the centerline and hit a southbound motorcycle.
POINT REYES STATION - A deputy assisted the Highway Patrol after an unlicensed driver was involved in a solo-vehicle traffic accident on Highway 1 just north of Point Reyes-Petaluma Road.
FOREST KNOLLS - A caller at 10 p.m. complained about several illegally parked cars. A deputy determined the cars were legally parked.
BOLINAS - Deputies at 10 a.m. received a call that two men at Elm and Grove roads appeared to be casing houses for a burglary.
WOODACRE - A nighttime burglar stole a tail light off a woman's vehicle, which was parked in her driveway along Crescent Drive.
NICASIO - A man became upset when a motorist threw a paper cup out a window near Big Rock. The man asked to sign a littering complaint against the other driver. A deputy gave the man advice.
OLEMA - A deputy at 9 a.m. helped a calf get back through a fence and into its pasture along Highway 1.
BOLINAS - An anonymous caller complained that a white substance was flowing from a residence on Brighton Avenue, but the caller refused to provide further information. A deputy determined there was no merit to the complaint and that the liquid was runoff from concrete work.
BOLINAS - A man from Dogwood Road reported losing his wallet.
WOODACRE - Deputies at 10:30 a.m. received a complaint from a Fire Road resident that two dogs, a rottweiler and a shepherd, were attacking at goat. Animal control officers took the dogs into custody.
INVERNESS PARK - An Inverness resident at 11:35 a.m. complained that someone had stolen his wallet from his jacket while the jacket was on the back of a chair. He said there were miscellaneous credit cards in the wallet.
NICASIO - Because of a string of burglaries around town, deputies responded twice when residents reported different suspicious people. In one case, the people were in a rental truck that had pulled up to the back of a house, but officers could not find the truck.
BOLINAS - Deputies looking for two runaway youths arrested a boy on a Danville Police Department warrant and took a girl to the county crisis unit at Marin General Hospital.
TOMALES - A woman on Highway 1 reported losing a cellular phone.
MARSHALL - A North Marin Water District ranger notified a security guard at Nick's Cove that he had seen people from two vehicles dumping household garbage in a dumpster at Miller Park.
BOLINAS - A woman notified deputies that at 7 a.m. she was walking up her own driveway off Brighton Avenue when a stranger jumped out of the bushes and knocked her over. The stranger then ran away, she said. A deputy took a battery report.
LAGUNITAS - A woman at noon reported that a fight between her neighbors was sounding physical. She said a man went outdoors, picked up a piece of wood, and went back inside their residence. The caller said she could hear the other woman yelling and then the man drove off.
STINSON BEACH - A homeowner on Calle del Pradero complained of continual vandalism to his house. He said he has a video tape of the vandals, and a deputy gave him advice.
STINSON BEACH - A Buena Vista Avenue woman at 2 p.m. reported that the entire left side of her vehicle had been scratched.
LAGUNITAS - A landlord at 2 p.m. asked deputies what sort of problems officers have been having with tenants on her property.
DOGTOWN - A woman at 4:20 p.m. notified deputies of a black calf loose on Highway 1. A deputy contacted its owner.
BOLINAS - A young man at 6:30 p.m. called deputies to say his 12-year-old brother was violent and out of control. He said the boy's foster mother and two other women had the boy pinned down on top of a hot tub, but the 12 year old was still struggling. The young caller told officers that the boy had just told one of the women, "I will kill you." Deputies took the boy to the county crisis unit.
NICASIO - A woman complained that a man was sleeping in a pickup truck on her ranch and that she wanted a deputy to help get the truck moved so she could lock her gate. An officer determined the sleeper was a guest of a ranch employee.
BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road arrested a man on charges of public drunkenness.
December 16, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A woman at 7 p.m. called deputies to report her 12-year-old foster son was creating a disturbance and had been violent to her in the past. The boy was taken to a Community Mental Health facility for a 72-hour evaluation.
MARSHALL - A weekend vandal kicked a hole in a wall of the postoffice, doing $100 damage.
BOLINAS - An Overlook Drive resident reported the second floor of her house had been ransacked and that jewelry was missing.
MUIR BEACH - A man on Pacific Way told deputies his boat had been stolen two years ago. He said he needs a report for the Department of Motor Vehicles so it will stop charging him re-registration fees. He said he had not reported the crime when it happened because he had been too busy.
WOODACRE - A motorcycle collided with another vehicle on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The impact did sufficient front-end damage to the second vehicle that it had to be towed away.
MUIR BEACH - A man complained that men were cutting down trees off Seascape Drive. He said he didn't think this was legal. Deputies checked with the town's Community Services District and concluded that the cutting apparently was okay.
BOLINAS - A burglar broke into a house at night while the owner was away, a neighbor reported.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman complained about a red pickup with camper shell that was broken down on private property along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. She later called back to say the pickup had left but that she was nonetheless irate because the driver was confrontational when she spoke to him.
BOLINAS - A man reported his girlfriend was not allowing him to visit their son. A deputy noted there were no custody papers on file and gave the man advice.
INVERNESS PARK - A woman said her 16-year-old son had threatened her the previous night and was now refusing to go to school. She said she had spoken with her son's probation officer that morning and that she was told she needed to file a report.
TOMALES - Deputies were told that one boy had assaulted another, causing facial injuries. The alleged assailant was cited, and a parent of the victim said that boy would be taken to a hospital.
BOLINAS - A woman asked to speak with a deputy about another woman's harboring a runaway juvenile girl, which is a crime. Officers were unable to find the runaway.
TOMALES - Deputies helped the Highway Patrol deal with a non-injury traffic accident at Alexander Road and Tomales-Petaluma Road.
MARSHALL - A man notified deputies that a boat had been left for two days behind Nick's Cove and might be stolen.
MARSHALL - A woman reported that two boys were in a boat on Walker Creek and might be oyster thieves. She said their unoccupied car was parked nearby. A deputy concluded the two might be duck hunters.
NICASIO - A Lucas Valley Road woman reported that a burglar had stolen tools from her shed. Deputies noted there have been a string of burglaries around the town; they advised townspeople to be alert to anything suspicious and report it to officers.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman living along Highway 1 called deputies at 6:40 p.m. to say her three dogs were barking at something in her backyard and that her home's motion-sensor lights had been activated. A deputy could not find anything amiss and said an animal could have caused the disturbance.
WOODACRE - The owner of a stable along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard reported someone had vandalized her electrical system. She added that someone had witnessed the vandalism being conducted by a person carrying a flashlight.
SAN GERONIMO - A Tamarack Road resident reported that eight to 10 pieces of jewelry had been stolen from her dresser.
FOREST KNOLLS - Two people got into a quarrel on Castro Street. One punched the other in the face, causing a injury to the victim's left eye.
December 9, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A woman called deputies to complain that her ex-husband, against whom she has a court's restraining order, was refusing to leave her house. She later told officers that everything was fine and that he was leaving. When an officer called her back, however, the ex-husband answered, and the woman told deputies he was now attempting to take their son with him.
HICKS VALLEY - A man sounding disoriented called deputies at midnight to report he had been in a traffic accident 20 minutes earlier. He said he had head injuries and that a second person, who also had head injuries, was slipping in and out of consciousness. The man said he broke out the window of someone's house to get to a phone. Later an employee of a ranch, where the house is located, called to report the broken window.
DOGTOWN - Deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of a vacant house. Officers determined the vehicle belonged to the Park Service.
BOLINAS - A girl asked a deputy for advice in dealing with continual harassment from another high school student. An officer gave her advice and contacted the other student.
NICASIO - A man reported that a Brahma bull was loose on Nicasio Valley Road. Deputies notified a rancher and the Highway Patrol.
LAGUNITAS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman at 5 p.m. reported that a large oak tree had fallen and crushed her vehicle 90 minutes earlier.
BOLINAS - A man at 9:15 p.m. asked deputies to remove a woman from his home on Brighton Avenue. He later canceled the request, saying she was now leaving.
INVERNESS PARK - A man at 10:20 p.m. reported that a vehicle had just backed into his wall. He said he wasn't sure if there had been damage to the wall but added that the vehicle kept driving in and out of a parking lot. A deputy determined there had been no injury to the wall.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Montezuma Avenue man complained that someone had burned a hole in one of his 4-inch-by-4-inch fence posts. A deputy determined that a supporting post had rotted out and had not been burned out.
BOLINAS - A Horseshoe Hill Road man complained at noon Sunday about loud construction noise nextdoor. A deputy gave advice to both parties, and the construction stopped.
BOLINAS - After gunshots were reported along Olema-Bolinas Road, two men were taken into custody at gunpoint by a Highway Patrol officer, who asked that a deputy back him up. The CHP officer said his first concern was to cover the suspects' hands with plastic or paper bags so they could be checked for gunpowder residue.
POINT REYES STATION - A restaurant at 6:20 p.m. notified deputies that seven men were arguing with customers. The problem was abated before an officer arrived.
BOLINAS - A man at 6:20 p.m. called deputies from Wharf Road to complain that his mother and her boyfriend had blocked his vehicle in a garage. Officers reported the man said he had locked himself in the garage. Officers described the dispute as an ongoing problem.
NICASIO - A Camino Margarita man at 11 p.m. complained that a blue pickup truck was parked on the private road with someone sleeping in it. A deputy moved the sleeper along.
POINT REYES STATION - On Saturday shortly before midnight, a man complained about cars peeling out on Mesa Road as a party broke up. A deputy contacted the person responsible and was told the party was over for the night.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman reported hearing a man screaming, as well as a smashing noise. She said the man, who sounded drunk, might be in his vehicle now, for a vehicle's lights were going on and off and its motor was running.
DILLON BEACH - A woman living on Valley Ford-Franklin School Road reported at 11 a.m. that her six-year-old daughter had been missing for an hour.
STINSON BEACH - A Marin Municipal Water District ranger at 11:45 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that two reckless motorcyclists were heading north on Highway 1 from Panoramic Highway. The ranger said the bikers were traveling at high speeds and that one was wearing all-red leathers. A deputy could not find them.
BOLINAS - Deputies at 3 p.m. received a 911 call from a payphone on Wharf Road. When they checked, officers found Pacific Bell working in the area on its phone system.
BOLINAS - A Wharf Road man at 3:35 p.m. complained that a motorhome was parked in front of a fire hydrant and was leaking sewage. A deputy found the leak did not smell like sewage and determined it was only water.
INVERNESS PARK - A Buena Vista Avenue resident at 8:15 p.m. complained to deputies about her neighbors' cats running around on her deck. She said they get onto her roof and keep her awake. A deputy gave her advice, and she said she would contact the Humane Society.
WOODACRE - Fairfax police arrested a pickup truck driver on Central Avenue after he got out of the truck and fled a short ways on foot. Police charged the man with failing to yield when ordered to by an officer. Police also asked deputies to call the registered owner of the pickup and ask if he knew where his truck was.
SAN GERONIMO - A deputy at 8 a.m. radioed the sheriff's dispatcher to find out if the Highway Patrol was needed for traffic control near Roy's Redwoods, where a movie was being filmed. The officer said he could not tell if the movie crew had made provisions for traffic control.
WOODACRE - A deputy at 2 p.m. contacted runaway juveniles on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, performed a field identification on them, and admonished them.
INVERNESS PARK - A man asked for advice in dealing with an Inverness resident.
MARSHALL - A woman living on the Marshall-Petaluma Road at 10 a.m. notified deputies that a 19-year-old man had stopped at her ranch and asked for gasoline. She said he was reluctant to leave, making her nervous because of a previous burglary at the ranch. The man later left in a white sedan.
LAGUNITAS - Firefighters on Mount Barnabe notified deputies of a vehicle accident on Portola Avenue. Deputies who received the call noted the driver might be intoxicated.
INVERNESS PARK - A woman at 11 p.m. reported her ex-husband was en route to pick up their 16-year-old son, who didn't want to leave with him. She later called again to say the son was now out of control, acting up and yelling. The woman said she did not want her ex-husband at her house.
STINSON BEACH - A man on Jose Patio reported his cell phone had been stolen. He later called back to say he had found it.
POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received a call from a 93-year-old woman who, they said, sounded disoriented. Unable to tell if the woman needed medical help, a deputy went to her home.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman complained about three male bicyclists in their early 20s urinating "in full view" on a pathway to Lagunitas School. The woman, who said her children were with her when they came upon the trio, described the bicyclists as wearing Lycra shorts and shirts.
POINT REYES STATION - A man found a license plate and turned it over to deputies.
NICASIO - Mill Valley police notified deputies that a man listed as missing was last seen by another man, who lived in a trailer on a Nicasio Valley Road ranch. Police asked deputies to ascertain the first man's mental condition, but when deputies went to the ranch, the main residence was vacant and there was no trailer.
INVERNESS - Inverness firefighters treated a man, 44, who had been assaulted half an hour earlier by his 17-year-old son, a firefighter told deputies. Deputies reported the son's hand might have been injured in the struggle.
LAGUNITAS - A man, who had not planned ahead in order to get a ride home to Bolinas, asked deputies at 3 a.m. to give him a courtesy ride to Point Reyes Station. He said he was afraid that hypothermia would set in.
SAN GERONIMO - Deputies reported a hit-run collision at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road. The car that fled was described as a 1988 blue Honda.
TOMALES - The high school at 10 a.m. asked that a deputy evaluate a student for possibly being under the influence of drugs.
WOODACRE - A Conifer Way landlord at 3 p.m. told deputies that his tenants had complained about electrical problems, so he had made an appointment with an electrician. However, the tenants refused to let the electrician in to make repairs, he said.
LAGUNITAS - A burglar stole a bicycle from the carport of a home along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
December 2, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A vandal using Super Glue gummed the push-button lock of a Terrace Avenue man's gate. A business on Brighton Avenue reported its door lock had also been glued.
NICASIO - A burglar stole $2,350 in jewelry and a coin jar containing about $25 from a Lucas Valley Road home, a woman reported. Among the jewelry was her wedding ring. After talking with a deputy, the woman decided a juvenile might be the culprit and said she would take the matter up with the juvenile's mother.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that a 29-year-old man had come home drunk and was verbally abusive. Later in the week she called the Sheriff's dispatcher for assistance, but he disconnected the telephone cord while she was on the phone.
INVERNESS - A vandal punctured two tires apiece on two men's vehicles, which were both parked on Aberdeen Way.
NICASIO - A vandal broke the window of a man's vehicle, which was parked behind a business on Nicasio Valley Road.
NICASIO - A vandal broke a side window on a woman's parked car.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman at 10 p.m. reported noise from a couple quarreling over an impending divorce.
OLEMA - An anonymous caller at 2 a.m. complained of people making noise and probably drinking at a campground. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.
NICASIO - A burglar stole an IBM Notebook computer, jewelry, and other property from the home of a Lucas Valley Road man.
WOODACRE - A Railroad Avenue woman complained to deputies that her ex-stepfather, who is in his 80s, keeps coming onto her property without permission. She said he parks in her driveway while he takes care of a neighbor's house. The woman said she wants him kept out of her yard, noting that her water bill has gone up 75 percent in the last three months. She asked for extra patrols around her house.
BOLINAS - Deputies at 3:20 p.m. were notified of a cow on the shoulder of the roadway at the Bolinas Wye, creating a traffic hazard. A deputy later reported the roadway had been cleared.
POINT REYES STATION - A man notified deputies that a Holstein cow was loose at the intersection of Highway 1 and Viento Way. The cow was returned to its pasture.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man at 10:15 p.m. reported a burglar had stolen a jewelry box.
FOREST KNOLLS - A daughter reported that her mother had said she was going to kill herself and was now in her bedroom. The daughter said she didn't know if her mother had taken any pills but that her mother talks about suicide frequently. For the moment, however, her mother was refusing to talk, the daughter said.
MUIR BEACH - A Sunset Way man notified deputies at 8:45 a.m. that he was inside his house when he heard an explosion and found his Chevy Blazer on fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the county fire marshal began an investigation.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies were notified that a runaway boy from San Anselmo was at a house on East Cintura Avenue. Deputies cited the youth to the Probation Department. Two hours later, a woman at the house reported her daughter was now a runaway.
STINSON BEACH - After receiving reports at 6 p.m. of six red flares, possibly from a boater in distress, the Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and two boats. It also asked deputies to check bluffs along the coast. Nothing amiss was found.
NICASIO - A Lucas Valley Road resident at 6:30 p.m. reported a burglar had stolen a cell phone and two credit cards from his home.
INVERNESS PARK - A man at 11 a.m. reported hearing five gunshots on Lower Douglas Drive near Drake's View Drive. A deputy could not find the gunman.
SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive woman at 3:15 p.m. reported seeing a 25-year-old woman who was possibly a woman earlier listed as missing.
BOLINAS - A man at 6 p.m. reported a Pontiac with four occupants was speeding and swerving in the area of Park and Terrace avenues. He said that when he tried to talk with the four, they were uncooperative. Deputies turned the matter over to the Highway Patrol, which couldn't find the car.
WOODACRE - Deputies were notified at 7:40 p.m. that juveniles where shining a laser light at passing vehicles in the area of Castle Rock Avenue and Carson Road. A deputy temporarily detained a few juveniles, and the problem was abated.
DILLON BEACH - A Park Avenue resident at 9 p.m. reported someone else's vehicle was parked on his property. He told deputies that when he contacted the vehicle's two occupants, they were verbally abusive and threatened to "do things" to him. He said the pair, both men in their early 20s, then drove away.
BOLINAS - A citizen at 10 p.m. notified deputies that a vehicle had overturned on a blind curve of Mesa Road. There were no injuries, the citizen said.
STINSON BEACH - An Arenal Avenue resident at 12:45 a.m. complained about noise from a live band. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.
DILLON BEACH - A man reported that two bicycles, each worth $350, had been stolen during the night. He said they had been leaning up against his travel trailer parked on Marine View Drive.
BOLINAS - A Pine Road woman at 9:30 a.m. notified deputies that her neighbor's Doberman had just bit her in the forearm. She said the dog was an ongoing problem. It had attacked her in the past, tearing her clothes, she said.
BOLINAS - A young man asked that a deputy stand by while he removed his property from a mobilehome on his mother's property. The standby was provided. Earlier in the week, he notified deputies he'd heard that his trailer had been vandalized; however, he had not yet seen the damage yet, he said. At the time, a deputy gave him advice.
POINT REYES STATION - A Tomasini Canyon Road resident notified deputies that a man about 45 years old was putting cement on top of some open pipes in order to "help everyone in the world have better radio reception." Although the man is known to have owned a high-powered rifle, a deputy assured the Tomasini Canyon resident the man is "not violent, just spacey."
STINSON BEACH - The Sheriff's marine patrol officer arrested a 38-year-old man on a warrant for failure to appear in court in a drunk driving case. The Coast Guard backed up the deputy, who arrested the man on a boat just offshore. One person was left on the boat, and he said he would take it to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate.
NICASIO - Deputies received a 911 hangup call from a home on Lucas Valley Road. An officer determined the call came from a child playing with a phone.
SAN GERONIMO - A caller notified deputies that a Forest Knolls woman's car had been left in the school's parking lot with its ignition punched out. An officer noted the car's registration was current.
LAGUNITAS - A fallen tree blocked the southbound lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 2:45 p.m. but was soon cleared away.
NICASIO - A woman asked for extra patrols around her house because she believes a neighbor may be prowling her property at night.
TOMALES - A rancher asked for extra patrols around his property after his sister said she was returning to the ranch and planned to move into one of its dwellings. The rancher told deputies someone else is living in the dwelling.
BOLINAS - A man at 9:45 a.m. reported that three males were sitting outdoors at Maple Road and Ocean Parkway, drinking beer and listening to loud music from a car stereo. A deputy contacted the trio, who turned their music down.
OLEMA - A woman found a backpack containing a small gun and camera gear along the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. She turned the backpack over to rangers at the Bear Valley Visitor Center, where a deputy picked it up.
INVERNESS PARK - An anonymous caller complained about loud music downtown at 8:45 p.m. A deputy gave the caller advice.
INVERNESS PARK - A man told deputies his wife, who was recently institutionalized with mental problems, was threatening to come home. He said he was fearful for his children and himself.
WOODACRE - A landlord asked that a deputy standby while she attempted to enter a rental unit that had plumbing problems. She said her renters "have been somewhat violent in the past." A deputy dispatched to the scene was delayed by road conditions, and she left before he got there.
BOLINAS - A man asked deputies for advice regarding problems with his wife. He later called again for further advice. A little later, he was arrested on charges of spousal abuse.
INVERNESS PARK - A man at 5 p.m. reported his 16-year-old son was out of control, throwing things around, and making a mess of their house. The problem was abated before a deputy arrived.
