December 30, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A woman at 7:10 p.m. Sunday notified deputies of a suspicious man in a Honda car parked in a pullout along Pierce Point Road a half mile north of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The woman told officers she "though it strange for someone to be sitting in a car there." A deputy checked and found a stranded motorist.

HICKS VALLEY – A rancher called deputies at 7:55 a.m. Sunday to report that a man had come to his door saying his vehicle had overturned on Hicks Valley Road and was upside down in the middle of the roadway. No one was injured, and deputies turned the matter over to the Highway Patrol.

OLEMA – A Bolinas resident at 2:59 p.m. Sunday told deputies she had driven past a woman of about 35 and a child about five, who were hiding in bushes along Highway 1. The Bolinas resident said she had stopped to offer help, but the woman didn’t respond. Although the two were "soaking wet," they remained hidden in the bushes, the resident added.

WOODACRE – A resident at 8:29 p.m. Christmas Day reported he was driving home from Lagunitas when he heard a gunshot. A deputy found nothing amiss.

NICASIO – A resident at 8:02 p.m. last Thursday told deputies she had spotted two men in a car stopped in her driveway. The resident said that when she confronted them, they drove onto a nearby road. She added that her neighbors’ dogs were barking at them.

POINT REYES STATION – A San Francisco resident at 3:28 p.m. Christmas Eve told deputies she had lost her purse downtown.

WOODACRE – Medics and deputies responded at 12:21 a.m. Christmas Eve when a 53-year-old woman said she may have had a stroke and now had symptoms of one although she felt fine. She said Kaiser Hospital had told her to call the Sheriff’s Office.

INVERNESS – Medics responded at 3:47 a.m. Christmas Eve when a 31-year-old resident reported taking two half-doses of an anti-anxiety medication the previous evening and then smoking marijuana. He said he now had pain in his arms and chest. He was also having trouble breathing, he added.

SAN GERONIMO –A property owner at 4:31 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that his flatbed truck could not get past a Mitsubishi car, which was blocking access to Junipero Road and Sylvestris Drive. A deputy determined the car was registered to a San Francisco man.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 4:42 p.m. last Thursday received a report that an 82-year-old woman had been suffering from chest pains for the past week. Officers were told she has no history of heart problems.

PLATFORM BRIDGE – Deputies and the Highway Patrol received a report at 6 p.m. last Thursday that a car had overturned on Platform Bridge Road and was upside down against a tree. Initial reports did not indicate if anyone was injured.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 12:49 p.m. Dec. 21 complained that the driver of a large truck delivering propane to a storage tank had become "verbally abusive." A deputy told The Light the driver had, without invitation, sat down on an old chair behind the woman’s house and broken it. The resident said she didn’t care that much about the chair but told the trucker he should at least apologize. Instead he "threatened to sue" her, she said. The deputy said the trucker left behind 25 cents and a message saying, "This should cover it." The deputy said the driver was from "out of state."

POINT REYES STATION – Medics responded at 2:33 p.m. Dec. 21 when a 63-year-old man began vomiting blood. The man, who had just seen a doctor, recovered without problems.

INVERNESS – Deputies at the request of the Probation Department searched a man’s house at 2:47 p.m. Dec. 21 but found no contraband.

SAN GERONIMO – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 4:23 p.m. Dec. 21 notified deputies that an 82-year-old man "seems confused" and was trying to get to Martinez. She said he had been driving around for hours in a gray Pontiac. A deputy gave him directions to Martinez.

WOODACRE – Firefighters at 8:51 p.m. Dec. 20 reported a stop sign and its post had been knocked down at Central Avenue and Grant Street.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 4:23 a.m. Dec. 21 notified deputies that a prankster had lined up newspaper racks and garbage cans across the main street, creating a barricade. She noted it was foggy and said a driver might run into the barricade. A deputy later reported the barricade had been removed.

TOMALES – A woman at 9:40 a.m. Dec. 20 reported three sheep were loose on Dillon Beach Road. The Humane Society said it would try to contact a sheep rancher.

FALLON – A Whitaker Bluff Road resident at 4:13 a.m. Dec. 20 said a motorist had walked a mile to his house and reported he had just run off the road and into a utility pole. The motorist, who was not injured, said he was driving only 35 mph, but the impact caused the phone pole to crash down on his truck. The pole was now blocking the road, he said.

POINT REYES STATION – The commander of the sheriff’s West Marin substation, Lt. Scott Anderson, has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is now 446-4418.

December 23, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 10:35 p.m. Sunday reported two males were fighting on her street and that a large group was on hand. The woman said no weapons were involved, but she didn’t want to give any more information other than that. When a deputy arrived on the scene nobody was there.

TOMALES – A man at 4:13 a.m. reported hitting a telephone pole with his 1987 Chevrolet truck while driving 35 mph. No airbag deployed. The driver was not injured and walked a mile to his house to call deputies.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 11:27 a.m. Sunday reported her 18-year-old son threw a shoe which hit her. She said there had been a quarrel, but no drugs or alcohol were involved and that he is not on medication.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics at 11:04 a.m. Sunday responded when an 83-year-old resident collapsed on the bathroom floor. He managed to call for help 20 minutes later when he awoke.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 12:42 p.m. Sunday reported that two boys in a black Nissan with red stripes were driving very fast from Inverness Park to Point Reyes Station. The car was registered to a resident of Point Reyes Station. When a deputy checked, the car was gone.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 10:32 p.m. Saturday reported that a man had been physically abusive to her and also defrauded her of thousands of dollars. She said a deputy had previously come to her home after the same man pulled her phone out of the wall.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift security guard at 10:41 a.m. Saturday reported finding a spent Navy artillery shell with markings that said it contained phosphorous. The man said he moved the shell to a safe place. Bomb squads from Travis Air Force Base, Marin County, and East Bay responded.

MARSHALL – A resident at 10:23 a.m. Saturday reported that someone the previous night rifled his two cars parked on Marshall-Petaluma Road. Some loose change was taken.

BOLINAS – A resident at 10:46 a.m. Sunday reported that while she was asleep, a man entered her house between 5 and 10:43 a.m. and took his belongings. The man is under a court-issued restraining order to stay away from her, she said. He left before deputies arrived.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 11:57 a.m. Saturday reported hearing a "vicious verbal fight" at a neighbor’s house but did not hear any "crashing." He said that deputies had previously gone to the house for other domestic problems.

TOMALES – A Marshall resident at 12:24 p.m. reported that the neighbor’s 17-year-old son and the son’s friends were shooting guns nextdoor. The man complained he was unable to put his horses or cattle in his pasture out of fear they would get shot. A deputy gave him advice.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics at 3:06 p.m. Saturday responded when a 32-year-old man was found face down near his car. The man had low blood sugar and scratches on his face and arms. An ambulance transported him to a hospital.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 4:27 a.m. Saturday asked deputies to inform his neighbors that he would be taking photos of rocks that, he claims, belong to him. The property is subject of a civil suit.

SAN GERONIMO – A deputy at 5:59 p.m. Saturday responded to an anonymous report of dogs barking. The deputy did not hear a dog but found many deer in the area.

BOLINAS – A woman at 10:49 a.m. Friday phoned deputies and said, "Tell him he can’t hurt me anymore." A deputy reported that a male voice then said that he and his girlfriend are trying to resolve a money issue. The man said that he restrained her in a chair. A deputy investigated.

POINT REYES STATION – A Third Street resident at 2:41 a.m. reported hearing a car crash and saw a group of males outside. A deputy found a party breaking up. They agreed to keep it quiet.

DILLON BEACH – An ambulance was summoned at 12:28 p.m. Friday when a 40-year-old man, who fell from a wheelchair, hit his head on the ground. Medics found him conscious and alert.

STINSON BEACH – Medics responded at 2:54 p.m. Friday to a man who hit his head on a garage door and needed to be transported to a hospital.

STINSON BEACH – Medics at 3:58 p.m. Friday were called out for an 18-year-old woman who reported a rapid heart rate.

MUIR BEACH – A man at 7 p.m. last Thursday reported that he had failed to pay his landlord and that the landlord said, "My son may come over and pound your face for not paying rent," a deputy quoted her as saying.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 2:09 p.m. Thursday reported that she had donated her vehicle to a garage that, in turn, had the vehicle towed away as abandoned. A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A 51-year-old resident of Highway 1 at 4:14 p.m. last Thursday reported chest pains. A nurse was on the scene.

WOODACRE – A resident at 2 a.m. last Wednesday reported that a large, badly rusted metal box had been on Park Street for three days. When deputies arrived, the box was gone.

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 11:31 a.m. last Wednesday reported a motorcycle and rider had crashed near Bear Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The man said the rider had been knocked unconscious.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics at 11:49 a.m. last Wednesday responded when a 74-year-old man complained of chest pains. He had just returned from the doctor that day and was on numerous medications but had no history of heart attacks. He’d had an angioplasty, however.

WOODACRE – A resident at 1:12 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a neighbor was cutting down a tree on her property. A deputy investigated, and the tree-cutting service said they would stop cutting until the property line dispute was resolved.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday reported that the driver’s window of his rental car had been smashed and a backpack and cell phone taken.

MUIR BEACH – A resident at 4:02 p.m. last Wednesday reported hearing prolonged automatic-gun fire, possibly from the direction of Muir Woods but not from the gun range. State park staff said rangers were in the area at Franks Valley.

CHILENO VALLEY – A resident at 11:25 a.m. Dec. 14 told deputies his mail had been stolen.

DILLON BEACH – A resident at 2:15 p.m. Dec. 14 reported that a surfer was beyond the surfline and couldn’t get back in. She said she had been watching him from her house. Deputies notified the Coast Guard.

LAGUNITAS – Medics and two towtrucks were needed at 2:28 p.m. Dec. 14 when a rental car overturned in Samuel P. Taylor State Park, coming to rest on its top. The towtrucks were advised that 50 to 60 feet of cable would be needed. The driver was taken to a hospital.

NICASIO – A man at 4:33 p.m. Dec. 14 reported that a white vehicle had just hit a tree on Nicasio Valley Drive.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 1:32 p.m. Dec. 13 complained that two people with a loud radio were drinking and being rowdy. A deputy found the couple but reported they were not drinking. The officer found liquor near them, but no one claimed it, so he disposed of it. The pair agreed to leave and take their radio.

December 16, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

LAGUNITAS – An East Cintura resident at 12:25 a.m. Saturday reported hearing a loud explosion, possibly near the Lagunitas Market. He said a group of youths were having a party in the area, and their cars were parked all over the neighborhood. He told a deputy the sound was not a gunshot but was "definitely an explosion" and that it "may have been an [electrical] transformer." However, another man who called deputies at the same time reported hearing gunshots somewhere between Rodeo Avenue and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

INVERNESS PARK – A Portola Avenue resident at 9:04 a.m. Saturday reported that three males had broken into her truck during the night. She said she had seen a light in her truck, and when she went outside, the three ran away. She said nothing was stolen from her truck.

INVERNESS PARK – A Portola Avenue resident at 1:58 p.m. Friday reported her wallet with $20 to $30 in it had been missing for three or four days.

POINT REYES STATION – A Cherry Tree Lane resident at 9:39 a.m. Saturday reported his vehicle had been broken into during the night, and the burglar(s) took a watch and cell phone together worth $200. He said his wife’s vehicle had also been broken into. Someone had rummaged through it, but nothing was taken from her vehicle, he said.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident of Cypress Road, which intersects with Cherry Lane, at 10:02 a.m. Saturday reported a Swiss Army Knife worth $40 and a tin can containing $2 in change had been stolen from his vehicle.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident of Overlook Road, which also intersects with Cherry Lane, at noon Saturday reported that during the night someone had rummaged through vehicles at four neighboring homes, but nothing was taken.

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 11:31 p.m. Saturday reported receiving second-hand information about a vehicle having been burglarized.

MARSHALL – A woman at 9:39 p.m. Sunday told deputies her children’s father, a 52-year-old resident of Petaluma, had over the phone threatened her boyfriend, with whom she lives. She told deputies the father had told her boyfriend "that he would kill him." He has weapons and said "he doesn’t mind spending time in jail for killing someone," she quoted the father as saying.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 10 p.m. Saturday told deputies that her house had been ransacked during the day. She did not know if anything had been taken.

POINT REYES STATION – The Highway Patrol at 10:28 Sunday reported a vehicle on Highway 1 had gone over a cliff. The driver had managed to get out of the vehicle and had contacted a Highway Patrol dispatcher from a call box at Cypress Road. The driver’s condition was unknown, the dispatcher said, but he "sounds bad."

OLEMA – An Inverness Park resident at 7:40 p.m. Saturday told deputies he had been bicycling west of park headquarters on Bear Valley Road with his wife bicycling behind him, but when he stopped and turned around, she wasn’t there.

NICASIO – Deputies received a 911-hangup call at 8:27 p.m. Saturday, and when they called back, they were told a husband and wife were quarreling, but there was no need for a deputy to come to their house. Deputies went there anyhow and later reported both people had been drinking and were arguing over a computer.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 10:07 p.m. Saturday complained about "very loud music" from a live band in the neighborhood, adding that she "can’t sleep." A deputy contacted a second woman, who said she would "stop the band."

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 12:07 a.m. Sunday reported that a baby had hit its head on a bedpost two hours earlier but was "okay" and went to bed. Just now, she said, the baby "woke up vomiting." Medics said they would transport the baby to a hospital.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Dillon Beach Road at 1:10 p.m. Saturday reported three males and a female, all aged between 14 and 18, were climbing on a rock. She said they refused to leave and instead yelled profanities at her. The four finally left in a blue-green Honda.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 4:34 p.m. Saturday reported getting into a confrontation with a man, who was walking two dogs on leashes. Her two dogs were not on leashes. She told deputies he yelled at her and "called her names and then let his dogs off the leash and yelled, ‘Attack!’"

INVERNESS PARK – An 87-year-old Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident fell at 5:20 p.m. Saturday and said she needed help.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 6:25 p.m. Saturday reported an electrical fire in her house. Firefighters said they would handle the matter.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 11:36 p.m. Friday told deputies two trucks had just driven by her house, and someone threw an M80 firework as they went by.

WOODACRE – A woman at 11:18 a.m. Friday told county firefighters about a fight between a man and a woman, apparently as a result of two vehicles colliding. She said the woman did not appear injured but "was striking at the man and trying to take his keys to his vehicle."

TOMALES – High school staff at 1:25 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a student had admitted stealing money from the girls’ locker room over the past few months. The student said a friend also took part in the thefts. Deputies cited them to the Juvenile Probation Deportment on theft charges.

WOODACRE – A woman at 1:48 p.m. Friday told deputies that three weeks earlier her 22-year-old daughter had been beaten up by her 24-year-old boyfriend. She said she had just gotten off the phone with her daughter and could hear an argument in the background.

DOGTOWN – A ranger at 3:22 p.m. Friday reported a vehicle had run off Highway 1 and was lying on its side. No one was around the vehicle, the ranger said.

CHILENO VALLEY– A resident at 11:12 p.m. Friday reported a blue van was completely submerged in water about a mile from Tomales on Chileno Valley Road. She said her husband was going to check on the mishap.

MARSHALL – A man at 1:40 p.m. last Thursday reported being hit in the face by a second man who lives near the boatworks. The first man said no "immediate injuries" were apparent, but he would go to medics to be checked. The first man added he did not intend to file charges against the second man.

TOMALES – Deputies received a report at 12:34 p.m. last Wednesday that a "large delivery truck" had overturned two miles north of downtown. The caller said the driver claimed not to be injured, but "he looked very shaken up." The Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

BOLINAS WYE – Deputies at 3:40 a.m. last Wednesday received a report that a silver convertible had run off Highway 1 and was in a ditch with only its tail-lights showing. Deputies immediately notified medics.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 8:39 a.m. Dec. 7 notified deputies that her husband, who lives elsewhere, was trying to break down the door and that the door was already damaged.

NICASIO – A woman on Nicasio Valley Road at 9:17 a.m. Dec. 7 reported a car had run into a gully and that smoke was coming from the vehicle. The Highway Patrol responded.

NICASIO – Deputies at 10:26 a.m. Dec. 7 received a report that a man in his 40s had been kicked in the chest by a horse. He was "conscious now but moaning," the caller said, adding that the man had "the wind knocked out of him."

BOLINAS – Firefighters and a towtruck responded to Elm and Juniper roads at 11:04 a.m. Dec. 7 when a truck got stuck.

WOODACRE – A woman at 1:06 p.m. Dec. 7 complained about an "abusive employer." She told deputies the employer, who is in his 70s, had been drinking and told her "he meant to physically hurt her," a deputy quoted the woman as saying. The officer added that the two have an "ongoing" dispute.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 1:26 p.m. Dec. 7 reported a man in his 50s had looked in her window, seen her, and left, dropping a bag on her doorstep.

TOMALES – A mother at 3:31 p.m. Dec. 7 reported someone at the high school had threatened her son.

BOLINAS – An anonymous caller at 3:41 p.m. Dec. 7 told deputies that a man using a walker and a woman were "causing a scene" on Wharf Road, "yelling at each other." Deputies noted there is an ongoing problem between the man and woman.

HICKS VALLEY – A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy told a Point Reyes-Petaluma Road rancher that a Dodge car stolen (by another man) from a dealership was now on his ranch. The rancher notified deputies at 3:43 p.m. Dec. 7.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 3:32 p.m. Dec. 7 told deputies her upstairs neighbor had gone past her residence with a "sword-like knife on a laundry basket." She said he asked her to close her door and then did so himself with the knife. She said he had told her to call police.

MILLERTON – A man at 4:08 p.m. Dec. 7 reported that another man was on the ground unconscious next to a silver pickup truck, which was parked along Highway 1. He said the victim was "bloody all over." Deputies found a man, who had been drinking, had gotten out of the truck to relieve himself and had fallen on his head. The man also has a history of seizures so the cause of the fall is uncertain. He was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 10:30 p.m. Dec. 6 reported that for the second night in a row she could hear glass breaking behind her house. She speculated that someone might be trying to steal her firewood, so she asked for extra patrols in her neighborhood.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 10:59 p.m. Dec. 6 reported she had received a call from her 34-year-old boyfriend who said his Jeep had been in an accident and that he had a cut on his head.

December 9, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – A 58-year-old woman at 9:18 a.m. Saturday notified deputies she had fallen and may have "blacked out." She said she was now dizzy; she had a headache; and there was pain in her left arm. She was transported by ambulance to a hospital’s emergency room.

BOLINAS – A man around midday Saturday told deputies a second man had attacked him in a Laundromat, pushed him, and kicked him in the stomach. He said the second man was still in the Laundromat.

WOODACRE – A resident at 4:37 p.m. Saturday reported seeing three youths throw garbage out of a gold-colored Chrysler in the area of San Geronimo Drive and Park Street and gave deputies the car’s license-plate number. Deputies traced the car’s ownership to a woman living on Nicasio Valley Road.

TOMALES – A citizen walked into the firehouse at 7:32 p.m. Friday and said a ranch building along Tomales-Petaluma Road was on fire. Firefighters determined there was merely a controlled burn close to the structure.

TOMALES – A woman at 8:13 p.m. Friday told deputies she had given her 41-year-old brother an eviction notice and that he was threatening to break in that night. She asked for extra patrols in her area.

POINT REYES STATION – A levee road resident at 9:57 p.m. Friday complained about noise in the neighborhood. A deputy found a small group talking outside, and they agreed to quiet down.

NICASIO SQUARE – Restaurant staff summoned deputies and the Highway Patrol after a 45-year-old motorist was brought inside following a car crash. Deputies reported his Porsche had run into a tree, and the sportscar’s airbag had deployed. Officers reported the injured man appeared to have been drinking.

INVERNESS – A woman at 9:58 a.m. Friday reported that "someone is flipping out" on her front porch. She said the man, who is in his 40s and normally is on medication, was "screaming, yelling, [and] crying."

INVERNESS – A woman at 12:50 p.m. Friday reported a 69-year-old man was having trouble breathing, was dizzy, and has a history of dizziness. Medics responded.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 2:42 p.m. Friday told deputies he’d been having problems with thefts and burglaries at his house. He said a basement door had been pried open and two space heaters taken.

BOLINAS – A woman on Wharf Road at 5:12 p.m. Friday complained that four or five people outside were drinking and "getting louder." A deputy contacted the group, and they agreed to quiet down.

WOODACRE – A 57-year-old-man at 7:30 a.m. Thursday complained of a rapid heartbeat and nervousness. The man told deputies he took medicine for high blood pressure and that he’d had a liver transplant. Medics transported him to a hospital by ambulance.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics at 1:21 p.m. Thursday responded when a 91-year-old man fell in the street, receiving gashes on his head and hand.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 1:22 p.m. Thursday reported that an unknown tree company had dumped wood chips on his property and in the street. A deputy called the tree company and told them to clean up the woodchips.

INVERNESS – A merchant at 5:09 p.m. Thursday reported that an ex-employee had been involved in suspicious activity. The employer said she had found a bag of garbage containing his personal information and his credit card.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 5:31 p.m. last Thursday complained that her ex-husband had come to her house the previous Saturday and had taken away their 13-year-old son although she has sole custody of him. She said she had not heard from either of them since then.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:28 a.m. Wednesday told deputies she wanted to turn over to them personal items belonging to her husband, who is under a court-issued restraining order to stay away from her. She said she wanted him to have clean clothes.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 1:11 p.m. last Wednesday reported hearing a noise, possibly a car door slamming, and seeing someone outside with a flashlight. A deputy investigated.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 10:02 p.m. Wednesday reported that his girlfriend was suicidal. A deputy concluded the woman was not suicidal.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday told deputies her wallet and purse had been stolen from the beach the previous Sunday.

BOLINAS – A man at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday reported he was concerned because his sister had not shown up for work. She and her husband had a domestic dispute Nov. 24, he said, adding that her husband had just been released from jail.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 5:23 p.m. Wednesday received a report that a 60-year-old man might have injured his head in a skateboarding accident. Medics called for an ambulance.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday received a complaint that a 60-year-old man, who uses a walker, was intoxicated and yelling at people outside.

INVERNESS – Firefighters at 6:41 p.m. last Wednesday were summoned to a Pine Hill Road residence where there was a house fire, but the residents themselves put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

INVERNESS – A deputy Friday said an Inverness man, who had been arrested Nov. 28 on fraud charges, was still in jail. An Inverness resident that day had told deputies a burglar had stolen checks from her house the previous day. She said someone while in a local store had tried to cash a $125 check drawn on the account of a retired man. She said believed she knew who did it. Deputies arrested a man on charges including fraud.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 10:14 a.m. Monday complained she had received a harassing phone call from her sister-in-law. She said she had been receiving such calls for years.

MUIR BEACH – A woman at 3:03 p.m. Monday told deputies that her 64-year-old husband had gone for a walk and might want to kill himself. She said he left a note on his computer saying goodbye and that he wanted to hurt himself.

POINT REYES STATION – The new commander of the sheriff’s West Marin substation, Lt. Scott Anderson, has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is now 446-4418.

December 2, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A man, who was staying overnight in a B&B, told deputies at 1:11 p.m. Sunday that he had been assaulted in a bar by a stranger. A deputy determined both men had been shooting pool when they began quarreling over which set of rules they were using.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies at 1:36 p.m. Sunday transported a drunk to a detoxification center and took a computer as evidence.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A merchant at 3:09 p.m. Sunday told deputies that a second woman had taken a bag of merchandise worth $100. She said the second woman was a former employee.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman on Highway 1 notified deputies at 9:21 a.m. last Wednesday that a vandal had slashed a tire on her car.

LAGUNITAS – Medics responded at 2:42 p.m. last Wednesday when a 89-year-old man sent off a "help" alarm. Deputies were asked to reset the man’s Lifeline alarm and warned them to look out for his goats.

INVERNESS – A man at 8:43 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies a second man had threatened him by phone. The second man, 60, said he was going to burn the caller’s home down, the caller reported. At 2:38 a.m. Friday, a woman called from the home to say "a large piece of wood just hit the side of the house." She said the lights were flickering as if someone were trying to cut her powerlines. The woman said she could now hear someone behind her house. Her male friend was with her, she added. The woman believes the family of the 60 year old "may be after her," a deputy quoted her as saying.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – The Highway Patrol at 8:53 p.m. last Wednesday reported a bull was on the roadway. A deputy could not find it.

MARSHALL – A deputy at 11:10 p.m. last Wednesday found a man sleeping in a Saturn car parked along Highway 1. The officer arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness.

TOCALOMA – A motorist collided with a deer on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 11:24 p.m. last Wednesday. Traffic was momentarily obstructed while the dead deer was removed from the boulevard.

BOLINAS – A resident at 12:52 a.m. Friday reported her 28-year-old husband had hit her in the arm with a bag of garbage. He then left home, she said.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 1:08 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a 60-year-old woman had been choking, but paramedics were on the scene, and her choking had stopped.

HICKS VALLEY – A county fire captain at 2:57 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a man and a woman were quarreling in a Chevrolet SUV parked beside the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. The fire captain said he had learned from a passerby that the woman had gotten out of the SUV and run away from it but was now back inside the SUV. The fire captain said he could see the SUV and was trying to ascertain its license-plate number.

NICASIO – Deputies at 3:30 p.m. Friday received a report that people in a red Isuzu had thrown ice at two bicyclists, hitting one of them. The car was last seen eastbound on Lucas Valley Road.

FOREST KNOLLS – A merchant at 6:23 p.m. Friday told deputies a man and woman from Woodacre had rented a $175 DVD player and not returned it.

POINT REYES STATION – A bartender at 8:45 p.m. Friday told deputies a 28-year-old man was very drunk and harassing customers. She said he was refusing to leave the bar. A deputy determined the man was wanted on a traffic warrant out of Solano County. When the man tried to run away from the deputy and began fighting when caught, the officer pepper-sprayed him. A soon as the man was subdued, the deputy asked medics to flush out the man’s eyes with water. The deputy arrested the man on the warrant and on charges of resisting arrest.

BOLINAS – Firefighters summoned a rescue helicopter at 9:18 a.m. Saturday after a member of the public suffered a possible heart attack.

MARSHALL – Medics responded at 10:16 a.m. Saturday when an 80-year-old man tripped, fell, and cut his face along Highway 1.

NICASIO – The Highway Patrol at 11:23 a.m. Saturday reported a bicyclist had crashed on Nicasio Valley Road and broken a collarbone. Medics responded.

WOODACRE – Deputies at 11:58 a.m. Friday received a report that a 21-year-old woman had fallen and was now "pale" and "out of it." Deputies were told her husband, who knows first aid, was on the scene and that medics had been summoned.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 2 p.m. Saturday told deputies that a group holding a footrace had set up a tent on public property and asked if they had a permit to do so. A deputy determined the group was a nonprofit holding a footrace over the Dipsea Trail to Mill Valley. By the time the officer arrived on the scene, the group had folded its tent, and were found to have a permit.

BOLINAS – A resident at 2:16 p.m. Saturday told deputies a vandal had damaged a tire on her vehicle during the night.

BOLINAS – A woman at 3:29 p.m. Saturday called deputies from the community center to say a possibly homeless woman, 35, was in a corner of the foyer screaming. A dispatcher could hear yelling in the background of the phone call.

OLEMA – Deputies at 5:20 p.m. Saturday received a report of steers on Highway 1. An officer notified the rancher who owns the cattle, but he himself could not find them. However, at 5:42 p.m. a resident of Olema-Bolinas Road in Bolinas also reported seeing a cow on Highway 1. A Highway Patrol officer said he would handle the matter.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 6:14 p.m. Saturday reported there was an illegal fire at Steep Ravine. A Tamalpais State Park ranger said State Parks would handle the problem.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 7:16 p.m. Saturday reported a woman in her 50s had "passed out" along Highway 1 but was now "back on her feet."

BOLINAS – A woman at 6:40 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a man in his 50s, who was very drunk, had fallen down on the street. Medics tried to treat him, but he was uncooperative and left the scene.

STINSON BEACH – Medics at 10:10 p.m. Saturday responded to Calle de la Sierra when an 11-year-old girl cut her lower leg.

BOLINAS – A man at 3:37 a.m. Sunday told deputies an 18-year-old girl had been battered half an hour earlier and had received cuts to her lip. Deputies, however, said the man was uncooperative and would not let them talk to the girl. Medics responded.

BOLINAS – A woman at 3:15 a.m. last Wednesday called deputies from a downtown payphone to complain that four men were selling drugs near downtown. She added that she had also complained about them two days earlier. A man, also calling from a downtown payphone, on Nov. 20 had likewise complained about the same men selling drugs. A dispatcher described her as "irate" and quoted her as saying that "she is going to kill them." The dispatcher noted that she said several times that she would "blow their heads off."

STINSON BEACH – US Park Police at 10:15 a.m. Nov. 23 told deputies that a safe, which had been stolen, had now been found in a turnout along Highway 1.

POINT REYES STATION – A bicyclist at 4:12 p.m. Nov. 23 complained that the driver of a white, four-wheel-drive pickup truck had come up behind him, blown his horn, and threatened him, saying that "the next time he won’t be so lucky," a deputy reported. The bicyclist had previously complained that the same driver on Nov. 13 deliberately veered toward him while he was riding, running him off Mesa Road. Deputies last week arrested the pickup’s driver, 24, of Point Reyes Station on charges of making felony threats and intimidating a witness. (It turned out, the deputy said, that last week’s incident was in response to the bicyclist’s reporting him to officers after the first incident.) The conflict started in a bar a couple of months ago, a deputy told The Light. The pickup driver told officers the bicyclist had been talking with a woman in a bar but left to use the restroom. When he returned, the pickup driver was talking with the woman, and the bicyclist suddenly punched him, the driver said.

STINSON BEACH – A man on Calle del Piños at 9:34 p.m. Nov. 22 reported hearing a fight with someone screaming. Deputies determined the fight was only verbal although glass had been broken.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident, who had been drinking, at 2:15 a.m. Nov. 23 notified deputies that her date was outside banging on her car. She said he had been drinking at her house and that he became upset when she asked him to leave. The resident told officers the man was "possibly delusional" and had said "he was a vampire and would suck her blood."

FOUR CORNERS – Medics responded at 8:32 a.m. Nov. 22 when a 76-year-old man, who was scheduled for surgery, began to feel "bloated" after being in pain for two days. Medics transported him to Novato Community Hospital.

MARSHALL – A man at 9:19 a.m. Nov. 22 notified deputies that a 26-year-old motorcyclist had crashed a mile north of Cypress Grove. Medics transported her to a hospital, and the Highway Patrol handled the rest of the matter.

BOLINAS – A man at 1:05 p.m. Nov. 22 reported his wife had been "out of control" and "breaking things." He said she was now calm and on their porch.

BOLINAS – A resident at 2:06 p.m. Nov. 22 notified deputies that her 17-year-old son, who was not taking his medication for manic depression, had attacked her and her husband. She said the boy’s father was now restraining him, but the boy was threatening to kill himself, saying he wanted to die.

BOLINAS – A man at 5:47 p.m. Nov. 22 called deputies from a Highway 1 callbox near Horseshoe Hill Road, saying he was stranded and needed transportation. A deputy responded but could not find him.
