December 24, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

LAGUNITAS – A babysitter at 1:45 p.m. Sunday called deputies from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to report she had lost track of a six-year-old boy on the Pioneer Trail about a 20-minute hike from a ranger station.

INVERNESS PARK – Firefighters at 4:34 p.m. Sunday reported powerlines were down along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

INVERNESS – A tourist at 4:35 p.m. reported powerlines were down atop Ottinger’s Hill and were setting trees on fire. The tourist later told others that when he first went into a downtown business and asked the owner to call firefighters, the owner was watching football on television, showed little interest in the blaze, and told the tourist to call firefighters himself.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that his truck had been vandalized while parked at the Red Barn. He said the vehicle had been dented; both sides had been scratched; and the passenger-side-view mirror had been torn off.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 7:30 p.m. Saturday complained that a 25-year-old-man was "drunk" and playing music "very loudly." The resident said he wanted the volume lowered. The resident said that when the second man drove up to their apartment building, he "sprayed gravel all over." At 8:49 p.m., another resident said the second man had returned and was now breaking a window of her car. The suspect then ran away without a shirt on, she said, adding she had "no idea" why he ran. A deputy at 7:06 a.m. Sunday tried to warn the second resident that the man was about to bail out of jail, but he got only her answering machine. When the officer went to her house, no one answered the door although her dog barked "excessively."

MARSHALL – Deputies at 6:18 p.m. Sunday received a report that a motorist in a white Ford was stopped beside Highway 1 and "yelling for help." Deputies were told the site was up a dirt road a mile north of Tomales Bay Oyster Company.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 8:59 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that while his vehicle was parked along Highway 1, a thief disassembled the bicycle rack on his car and stole the two mountain bikes it was carrying.

BOLINAS – An Ocean Avenue resident at 10:06 p.m. Saturday told deputies he had heard three gunshots downhill on either Terrace Avenue or Ocean Road. He said he did not believe the noise came from fireworks or a car backfiring.

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 8:27 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that "approximately 10 cattle" were loose on the roadway. Firefighters said they would inform the Highway Patrol and would like deputies to notify the Humane Society. Firefighters described the cattle on Highway 1 as a "traffic hazard" because "it is very foggy up there." The Humane Society said it would try to determine who owned the cattle and then notify him.

POINT REYES STATION – The Humane Society at 12:09 p.m. Saturday radioed deputies that one of its vehicles was stuck on the levee road with a dead battery. A deputy gave the Humane Society’s vehicle a jump start.

WOODACRE – A resident at 1:31 p.m. Saturday reported that within the past month he had lost a set of keys and is now discovering things missing from his home. The resident said that six months ago a motorist repeatedly struck his retaining wall, and deputies made a report. The resident added that a witness has now seen the same man in the resident’s house taking items.

INVERNESS – An officer of the Inverness Yacht Club at 2:25 p.m. Saturday reported a burglar had broken into the club and had stolen liquor and cash.

BOLINAS – A mother at 2:37 p.m. Saturday called deputies from Wharf Road to report that a woman, who is in her late 30s, had yelled obscenities at the resident’s child and ex-boyfriend and had thrown a water bottle at the friend’s vehicle. The girl’s mother said the second woman has a history of mental illness and asked for advice.

WOODACRE – A resident at 2:47 p.m. Saturday told deputies she believed a 32-year-old tenant was in her house although he doesn’t have a key to it. Deputies were told the tenant is on "heavy meds" and is well known to the Sheriff’s Office.

STINSON BEACH – Firefighters at 5:35 p.m. Saturday responded to a propane leak from a hotwater heater at a home on Seadrift Road.

OLEMA – Deputies at 12:44 a.m. Saturday stopped a brown Volvo at the main downtown intersection and cited the driver on charges of possessing marijuana and fireworks. The driver was then released. At 1:29 a.m., a second man was cited at the same intersection on charges of possessing marijuana; he too was then released.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 2:12 a.m. received a report that an 82-year-old resident of Highway 1 had been suffering "stomach pains for several hours, [and they were] increasing." The man, who had already vomited once, had previously undergone heart-bypass surgery.

WOODACRE – Deputies and medics responded at 2:26 a.m. Saturday when a 13-year-old boy took 13 anti-cold-symptom pills "on purpose...to get high." Some 2.5 hours, later however, the boy began to feel dizzy and became scared.

TOMALES – Deputies and Highway Patrol officers responded at 3:49 a.m. Saturday when a vehicle ran off Highway 1 during "fog and rain." Officers were told the motorist was sober and that a tow truck with 100 feet of cable would be needed.

DILLON BEACH – County firefighters from Tomales, the Coast Guard, and deputies were summoned at 5:11 a.m. Saturday when a house on Oceana Drive caught fire. The blaze was limited to a "small fire in the wall" and was "contained with a water hose," deputies reported.

BOLINAS – A resident at 8:27 a.m. Friday notified deputies that two guests had gotten into a physical fight and that both were still at his home. He said a 30-year-old man had hit a 44-year-old man "repeatedly with a fire broom and poker." The assailant might still "have the weapons," the resident added.

TOMALES – The high school principal at 1:05 p.m. Friday told deputies that checks are missing from the studentbody account, and "one has been used." He said an unknown suspect had forged a signature on the check.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 2:14 p.m. Friday reported that a man, 55, and woman, 40, were having a physical fight in front of the community center. He said he believed the fight was "alcohol related."

WOODACRE – A woman at 2:21 p.m. Friday told deputies a second woman, who had previously made suicidal threats, had taken an unknown amount of Tylenol and was now in an "altered state" of mind. The second woman, 44, "has threatened to get into a vehicle and drive away," the first woman said. The second woman has been previously hospitalized for taking an overdose of medication, she added

OLEMA – The Highway Patrol at 12:15 a.m. Friday stopped a motorist for a tail-light violation and then arrested the driver on charges of drunk driving.

MUIR BEACH – A Whistlestop shuttlebus driver at 7:14 a.m. last Thursday reported a man, whose car had broken down, was "screaming obscenities at passersby." The bus driver said the man had "lots of camping gear laid out." A deputy determined the man was sane.

INVERNESS – An Inverness woman at 2:35 p.m. last Thursday asked for extra patrols around her house after receiving unwanted mail from a high school acquaintance, who might come by unannounced.

POINT REYES STATION – A vehicle crashed near the Green Bridge at 7 p.m. last Wednesday.

WOODACRE – A man at 10:45 p.m. last Wednesday reported a 46-year-old woman had "taken too many sleeping pills," possibly 10. He said that when she left a message on his answering machine, she "sounded really drowsy."

TOMALES – The high school’s athletic director at 2:17 p.m. last Wednesday asked deputies for advice regarding a third suspect identified last week in a theft at the school. A deputy gave him advice.

WOODACRE – A man at 4:21 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies he believed "his neighbor had ripped out some survey stakes from his property." A deputy determined the incident was not vandalism but a civil dispute between neighbors and gave advice to both sides.

POINT REYES STATION – A Marshall innkeeper at 5:15 p.m. last Wednesday reported an all-black cow was grazing on the shoulder of Highway 1 near the Tomales Bay Oyster Company. The cow was gone when a deputy arrived.

MUIR BEACH – A man on Highway 1 at 5:36 p.m. last Wednesday reported a 20-year-old, possibly emotionally disoriented man had caused a disturbance earlier in the day had left. The caller, who said the man had arrived in a white Toyota Camry, asked a deputy what to do if he returned. A deputy advised him to call the Sheriff’s Office.

INVERNESS – A resident at 11:05 p.m. last Wednesday complained about loud music coming from a home on Inverness Way.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 12:58 p.m. Dec. 16 told deputies she had received possibly fraudulent email from a lottery agency in South Africa, stating she had won $1.5 million but not to tell anyone. The company did not ask for any money nor did she send any. A deputy determined no crime had occurred and gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 2:13 p.m. Dec. 16 notified deputies that a 14-year-old boy, who had struck his temple when he fell that morning, had suffered a concussion. The boy, who had later been examined by a doctor, was now vomiting and had blurred vision, she said.

SAN GERONIMO – A member of the school staff called deputies at 3:24 p.m. Dec. 16 to report a woman had dumped a load of construction materials and glass at the recycling center on Lagunitas School Road. She said the second woman had left in a small, gray or green pickup truck and gave deputies the license plate number. She said people dumping trash, which cannot be recycled, at the center is "an ongoing problem." A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Ritch Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin substation, has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

 

December 18, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A homeowner at 7:21 p.m. Monday reported that two male trespassers used her hot tub and in the process broke one of its jets. She said the men threw the broken part away and that she cannot find it.

WOODACRE – When a 16-year-old girl mountain biking over White Hill with a friend did not get home by dark, her mother notified deputies at 7:21 p.m. Monday. By then the friend had returned home to San Anselmo. Search teams made up of mountain bikers from Drake High at 10:15 p.m. found the girl beside a trail.

BOLINAS – An Olema-Bolinas Road resident at 7:31 p.m. Monday notified deputies he had found a middle-aged man "snooping around with a flashlight" on the resident’s property. The resident said he confronted the prowler who "stated he was delivering furniture but had no delivery truck that [the resident] could see." The prowler was last seen heading toward downtown.

NICASIO – A 16-year-old girl driving at Los Piños and Los Piños Spur crashing into a power pole, bringing down live lines, her mother reported at 9:04 a.m. Monday. Deputies and medics responded when the mother said her daughter, who’d been wearing a seatbelt, suffered a "possible broken arm." The mother was not in the vehicle when it crashed.

BOLINAS – Deputies on Wharf Road at 9:56 Monday arrested a woman on a Novato Police warrant for allegedly making threats.

NICASIO – A utility worker on Nicasio Valley Road at 11:09 a.m. Monday notified deputies that his company’s switching building has been repeatedly burglarized.

BOLINAS – A Park Avenue resident at 1:20 p.m. Monday told deputies another man had mowed half an acre of a quail preserve. The resident reported the second man, who had removed about 70 cubic yards of brush, was trespassing.

MOUNT TAMALPAIS – A state parks dispatcher at 8:28 a.m. Sunday reported a park maintenance worker had found an unconscious man in a car at Fairfax-Bolinas Road and Ridgecrest Boulevard. The worker had tried to wake him but was unsuccessful. However, the man was breathing, she reported. Deputies and medics responded.

STINSON BEACH – A woman walking her dog on Buena Vista Avenue cut her head when she fell. Firefighters transported her to a hospital.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 8:32 p.m. Saturday reported hearing a gunshot downtown and then a vehicle taking off. A deputy could find nothing amiss.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 9:52 p.m. Saturday reported a vandal had used a key to scratch the paint of a patrolcar parked at the sheriff’s substation.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 1:36 a.m. Sunday received a report of a "large flash" north of town. Deputies could not find any part of town without electrical power or anything else amiss.

LAGUNITAS – A tree fell across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, blocking the westbound lane, deputies learned at 2:13 a.m. Sunday. Officers were told it was doubtful the "fire department will be able to cut through," so the county Department of Public Works cleared the road.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies received word at 11:49 a.m. Saturday that a 46-year-old man had cut his right thumb with a power saw. Officers were told the "patient is conscious and alert. Bleeding is controlled," and the man still had sensation in the thumb and could move it," deputies were informed. Medics transported him to Marin General Hospital.

WOODACRE – A man at 1:49 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that "a riderless horse came galloping through the golf course and is currently along the roadway on the west end of the golf course." The man said he "is concerned that the rider was thrown from the horse and also [that] the horse is loose along the road." Deputies notified two nearby stables there was a loose horse.

OLEMA – Deputies at 1:57 p.m. Saturday received word that a cow was loose on Highway 1. An officer could not find it.

WOODACRE – A merchant at 3:49 p.m. Saturday reported a 35-to-40-year-old woman, who appeared either drunk or high, had "caused a scene with other customers" when she bought beer and had then left on foot. The merchant said the woman was wearing a gray sweatshirt, white pants, and a camouflage hat."

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 4:47 p.m. Saturday reported a juvenile motorist driving a white 1970s Datsun crashed into her fence. She asked for an officer to take a report before the juvenile left the scene.

BOLINAS – A man at 7:19 a.m. Friday told deputies he had found abandoned shotgun shells in a Wharf Road business. At 3:15 p.m. a deputy took them for destruction.

BOLINAS – A woman on Maple Road complained about a gray stationwagon with Idaho license plates parked in bushes, saying it had been there for a week. The vehicle’s owner told a deputy the car was broken down and would be repaired in a day or so. The officer warned him that vehicular habitation is illegal in Marin County.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 7:20 p.m. Friday complained about loud music coming from a Mesa Road home. All was quiet when a deputy arrived at the home, but the 38-year-old resident said he would keep his doors closed and the volume down. At 10:38 p.m. the resident himself called to complain about loud music coming from the Red Barn. A deputy abated the disturbance but remained in the area.

FOREST KNOLLS – A 42-year-old woman at 11:09 p.m. Friday reported feeling dizzy, with her hands and arms tingling and numb. The woman, who once suffered a head injury, said she had three glasses of wine, no medicine, and that she usually smokes marijuana.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 11:55 a.m. Friday reported that for the past 10 minutes he had heard a man and woman yelling. He said he believes the woman was yelling for "her stuff" and that the man was yelling, "You’re trespassing."

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 7:55 p.m. last Thursday received a report that a black cow was on Highway 1. When an officer arrived, several cows "took off into pasture," he reported. The deputy then tried to fix the pasture’s barbed-wire fence.

TOMALES – A deputy responded at 9:58 p.m. last Thursday when a firefighter reported that a homeless woman had been living for a week in a silver Nissan stationwagon on North Dillon Beach Road. A deputy warned her vehicle habitation is illegal in Marin County. She said she would move on.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 7:05 a.m. last Thursday asked deputies to check on a tenant who "has been disrupting the other tenants since 6 a.m." After evaluating her state of mind, deputies transported the tenant to the county crisis unit at Marin General Hospital.

INVERNESS – A deputy on North Woodhaven Road at 9:07 a.m. last Thursday reported he and a citizen were with a "sick or injured seal" and asked that the Marine Mammal Center be summoned.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – Deputies and firefighters responded at 9:22 a.m. last Thursday to a car fire.

TOMALES – A Topeka, Kansas, man at 8:20 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies here that a computer being sold on eBay may have been stolen from Tomales High. The Kansas man said he outbid others eBay customers to buy the computer, but the seller wanted out of the deal so said it had been stolen.

BOLINAS – County firefighters at 10:01 a.m. last Wednesday reported there was a single-vehicle accident on Olema-Bolinas Road. The motorist received "minor or no injuries," firefighters said.

WOODACRE – A woman in her mid-40s at 11:48 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies she was suffering a panic attack after forgetting to take her thyroid medication. She said she was scared because someone was in her house the previous week while she was out. Medics responded.

TOMALES – A woman at 2:31 a.m. last Wednesday reported a tree along Highway 1 was about to fall onto Whitaker Bluff Road as well as onto powerlines. A guy wire for a utility pole was currently holding up the tree, she said. Firefighters, deputies, and the county Department of Public Works all responded.

POINT REYES STATION – An Inverness Park resident at 9:49 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies he was jogging beside the levee road when he was nearly hit by a reckless motorist passing other traffic. He said the reckless motorist came so close to him he "was actually blown over." He said the vehicle was now parked on Fourth Street.

INVERNESS PARK – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday complained about "a small boat occupied by one subject that is shooting off a shotgun," a deputy reported. Deputies noted this is duck-hunting season.

NICASIO – Deputies at 8:51 p.m. Dec. 12 reported a small mudslide coming onto Nicasio Valley Road. An officer pushed some debris off the pavement.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 9:06 a.m. Dec. 9 received a Lifeline call from a 69-year-old Highway 1 resident who had fallen in her garage and could not get up. She told deputies where to find a key to get into her garage. Medics handled the situation before an officer reached the scene.

BOLINAS – Medics at 9:17 a.m. Dec. 9 took a man in his 60s to Marin General Hospital after he experienced unknown medical problems on Wharf Road, causing him blood-pressure problems.

WOODACRE – A Fir Avenue resident at 11:07 a.m. Dec. 9 reported a man, whose name he had taken down, had damaged his driveway six months ago. The resident said the second man now cannot be located. A deputy gave him advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 11:20 a.m. Dec. 9 told deputies he had lost his checkbook in a business downtown.

BOLINAS – A woman at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 told deputies her roommate, 65, had locked her out of their main house and that she was "not sure why" although they’d had a "verbal disturbance" that morning. The two women share the main house, but there is a cottage on the property, and the woman said she was calling from the cottage.

TOMALES – A woman at 8:14 p.m. Dec. 8 asked deputies to stand by while she removed property from her house. She said she was assaulted by her 51-year-old estranged husband the previous night. She said he had stolen her car from where she works and had asked for a Sonoma County court to issue a restraining order against her.

OLEMA – A man at 6:39 a.m. Dec. 9 reported a loose cow on the pavement at Highway 1 and Bear Valley Road. A deputy determined who owned the cow and left a message.

MUIR WOODS – US Park Police at 4:47 p.m. Friday asked deputies for help in dealing with a "suicidal subject with a knife." Park police said a ranger and member of the clergy were also responding to the scene on Muir Woods Road.

December 11, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – A man walked into the sheriff’s substation at 10:50 a.m. Monday and said a 40-year-old woman was in an altered state of consciousness after taking an overdose of an unspecified drug. He said she was having trouble breathing. Officers verified the report, and helicopter transported her to a hospital.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 1:23 p.m. Monday received a report that a cream-and-red car, which might be the suspect vehicle in a burglary at South Beach, had just been seen in downtown Point Reyes Station. Deputies were unable to find it.

MUIR BEACH – A man at 2:40 p.m. Monday reported his vehicle had been broken into while he was parked at the Zen Center. He said only small items were taken, including glasses and a checkbook.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 4:30 p.m. Monday reported another woman had swallowed a bottle of medication five minutes earlier. The dispatcher said the resident was "uncooperative and yelling at me." She quoted the resident as saying the second woman was not suicidal but "just got upset and likes to do spontaneous things."

FOUR CORNERS – A member of the public at 11:56 p.m. Sunday reported a cow was loose on the road. Deputies contacted the cow’s owner, and it was returned to its pasture.

MARSHALL – Medics and deputies responded at 9:53 a.m. Saturday when a man reported a 42-year-old woman had fallen on a wet deck.

NICASIO – Deputies beginning at 3:59 p.m. Saturday received numerous reports that a 500-pound boulder had rolled onto the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road near the dam of the reservoir. A deputy agreed the boulder was a traffic hazard and needed to be removed, which firefighters did. At 10:45 p.m., a man reported more rocks had fallen onto the roadway. Deputies said they would advise the Highway Patrol and a road crew.

HICKS VALLEY – The Highway Patrol at 12:10 a.m. Saturday reported a car had overturned north of Rocky Hill and was lying on its side. Deputies were told everyone had managed to get out of the vehicle although one person had cuts to a hand.

BOLINAS – A woman at 1:37 a.m. Sunday said that an 82-year-old woman, who’d had the flu for a day, was having trouble breathing and was turning blue. Medics and deputies responded.

NICASIO – An off-duty Fairfax policeman at 4:47 a.m. notified deputies that a man in a Cadillac on Nicasio Valley Road was yelling at two youths to come back to the car. He said the two were jogging, and given the lateness of the hour, the policeman said he was suspicious. Deputies could not find the car or youths.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 8:25 a.m. Saturday received word that an Ocean Parkway man with a history of heart problems had died at home. The coroner was notified.

TOMALES – A man at 10:21 a.m. Saturday complained that he was having an ongoing problem with someone who keeps moving a vehicle, which is tagged to be hauled off by deputies. The person keeps relocating the vehicle from the man’s property onto the pavement at Dillon Beach and Middle roads, creating a traffic hazard, the man said.

BOLINAS – A man at 12:44 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that while he was cleaning a building on Wharf Road, he found a loaded shotgun. At his request, deputies took the gun for disposal.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 2:40 p.m. Saturday told deputies a second man, 31, had stolen his fanny pack 10 to 15 minutes earlier and was now on Tamal Road.

PLATFORM BRIDGE ROAD – A deputy at 5:21 p.m. Saturday checked on a suspicious man and found him to be "cooperative."

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 5:34 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a second man, 31, had received a spider bite and was having an allergic reaction. The victim was "shaky," his hands were numb, his nose and face were tingling, and he had pain in his jaw, the caller said. The caller added that the spider had gotten into the man’s hat while he was collecting wood.

OLEMA – A deputy on Highway 1 at 8:50 p.m. Friday arrested a man on a Sonoma County warrant involving drugs.

TOMALES – A woman at 9:35 p.m. Friday reported her stepfather, who is separated from her mother, had shown up at their house unexpectedly and bruised her during an altercation. A dispatcher reported hearing screaming in the background of the woman’s call before she hung up. At 11:08 a.m. Monday, the stepfather called deputies from Rohnert Park and said his stepdaughter had threatened him.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK – A ranger at 10:08 p.m. Friday reported hearing a crash. A deputy determined that no one had been injured although a tire had been flattened, and the car needed to be towed away.

POINT REYES STATION – A photographer at 10:14 p.m. Friday reported an SUV was teetering on the shoulder of Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and in danger of rolling backwards into Papermill Creek. Deputies and firefighters responded, and the SUV stayed on the shoulder of the road.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies received a complaint that a woman, who had been drinking, was being "very uncooperative" in a bar at 12:38 a.m. However, an officer noted, "her two adult children arrived and walked her home. The children were sober."

DOGTOWN – The Highway Patrol at 9:59 a.m. Friday reported a motorist from Connecticut had run off Highway 1. Although the driver was not injured, a tow truck was needed.

TOMALES – A Spanish-speaking resident along the Tomales-Petaluma Road told a bilingual dispatcher at 11:16 a.m. Friday that three males had made profane remarks to her the previous day and had threatened to take her child.

FOREST KNOLLS – A deputy on Rosario Road at 2:38 p.m. Friday arrested a person on charges of violating probation.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 5:44 p.m. Friday reported that a second woman, 50, had fallen off a roof two days earlier and was now having pain in her gastro-intestinal tract and was vomiting. The caller said the victim might have broken a rib.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 9:25 a.m. last Thursday reported receiving several harassing phone calls with "heavy breathing." A deputy determined the caller was a bill collector.

BOLINAS – A woman at 5:41 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that someone had left a coffin leaning against a fence at Horseshoe Hill and Paradise Valley roads.

BOLINAS – A man at 8:52 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that although he has a court-issued restraining order against a 49-year-old woman, she has been writing him and had filled his car with dog feces. He added that his dog had been missing for an hour and that he suspected she took it.

FALLON – A woman on Fallon-Two Rock Road at 3:52 a.m. last Thursday told deputies that a green Chevrolet pickup truck with a camper shell had apparently crashed into a utility pole.

SAN GERONIMO – Medics responded when the school at 12:59 p.m. last Wednesday reported a 12-year-old girl had dislocated a finger and was in considerable pain.

NICASIO – A woman at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 told deputies that a reckless driver had hit a guardrail along Nicasio Valley Road, crashed, and then run away into a field. She surmised the driver was either in shock or drunk.

WOODACRE – A woman at 10:33 p.m. Dec. 2 called deputies when a flashlight was seen on her outdoor staircase. She told officers a man had been stalking her.

OLEMA – A man at 10:38 a.m. Dec. 2 notified deputies that his $1,000 camera had been stolen while he was "tending at a wedding."

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Ritch Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

December 4 , 2003 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 12:53 p.m. Sunday reported a small calf was caught in some blackberry vines. A deputy called a rancher, who returned the calf to its pasture.

BOLINAS – A resident at 7:56 p.m. Monday complained about a man in a long, black coat yelling obscenities on Wharf Road. The man was gone when a deputy arrived.

TOMALES – A Middle Road rancher at 7:39 p.m. Monday reported that someone had entered her storage area earlier in the day, noting she had found two windows open. She also said boxes in her barn had been ransacked, but she didn’t know if anything had been taken.

BOLINAS – A Big Mesa resident at 5:24 p.m. Monday told deputies that while he was away – but while friends were in his house – his ex-girlfriend and her father forced their way inside and stole a computer and film supplies.

WOODACRE – The Highway Patrol at 9:05 p.m. Monday forwarded a report of a man staggering and apparently drunk at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Geronimo Valley Drive. The man, who was carrying a green duffel bag, had moved on by the time a deputy arrived.

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident at 3:23 p.m. Sunday complained that a minivan with "two guitar-playing, white-male adults in their 20s" had been parked in the middle of the road for two hours. The resident told officers he’d asked the pair if their van had a mechanical problem. They said it did not and that "they were just rehearsing," a deputy reported.

HICKS VALLEY – Firefighters at 8:23 a.m. Monday reported a homeless man’s bicycle had gotten a flat tire near Rocky Hill, forcing him to abandon it. The elderly man and his dog then disappeared.

BOLINAS – A woman on Wharf Road told deputies at 9:53 a.m. Monday that a gray Ford had been blocking her driveway all night. A deputy determined the car was registered to a San Jose couple and arranged to have it towed away.

WOODACRE – A woman at 3:53 p.m. last Thursday called deputies to say she was concerned about the welfare of a second woman, who is on medication. After saying deputies were familiar with the second woman, the first woman hung up. The second woman then called deputies and said the first woman "was making up the whole thing as an act of revenge."

STINSON BEACH – A Santa Cruz resident called deputies from home at 10:05 a.m. Monday to report a bag containing a Walkman, cell phone, and toiletries (together worth $100) had been stolen Friday from his lodgings on Belvedere Avenue.

MUIR BEACH – A Sunset Way resident at 12:11 p.m. Monday reported her artwork appeared to have been vandalized and that she may know who did it. She asked a deputy for advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A doctor’s office at 1:23 p.m. Monday reported a man came in with an eye problem, was verbally abusive to staff, and then left. At 3:21 p.m., the office reported a different man, 41, had now locked himself in the office’s restroom and for the past half hour had been laughing and yelling.

BOLINAS – A Fern Road resident at 2:18 p.m. Monday told deputies her landlord was harassing her about a screen door. The landlord, she said, had called her four or five times already that day. A deputy gave advice to both women.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 8:15 a.m. Sunday reported that a tree had fallen across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, blocking both lanes. He said the tree landed on telephone wires, which were holding it six feet off the ground. The Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

WOODACRE – A woman at 4:47 p.m. Sunday told deputies a two-year-old girl has been abused for more than a year by her 29-year-old father. The woman said the little girl had a small bruise.

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:32 p.m. Saturday complained about a loud party at a woman’s house on Redwood Drive. When a deputy arrived, he found guests were leaving and dispersed the rest.

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident at 10:51 p.m. Saturday notified deputies she could hear "bumping and falling-down noises." She added that her cellar door was open although it had been closed and padlocked.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – The Coast Guard at 3:32 p.m. Saturday notified deputies it had received a report that one or two kayakers might be in trouble offshore. A deputy determined there were no kayaks or other boats in the area and notified the Coast Guard he was "95 percent certain" that what had been seen were "crab pots."

MUIR BEACH – A resident at 10:54 p.m. Saturday complained about youths with a bonfire on the beach near a hillside, saying he was concerned about fire danger. A deputy encountered 25 youths around the fire and released them to an adult.

WOODACRE – A resident at 2:17 a.m. Sunday notified deputies she could hear two men fighting in front of her house. A neighbor, who called deputies to complain about a party, said he could hear a male voice saying, "I’m hurt." The party’s hostess told officers that one man had been picking on another.

CHILENO VALLEY – A woman at 9:48 a.m. Saturday notified deputies of a loose cow on the road. Deputies contacted a rancher, who returned the cow to its pasture.

BOLINAS – A resident at 3:25 p.m. Saturday said she is concerned about another woman who makes threats when she has occasional emotional problems. The second woman has said she keeps a gun in storage, the resident reported.

INVERNESS PARK – A nurse at 11:07 a.m. Friday notified deputies she had found an unconscious woman who possibly had suffered a stroke. The woman was taken to Sutter Hospital by helicopter.

OLEMA – A businessman at 2:16 p.m. Friday complained that a drunk man was harassing his employees. He described the drunk as 50 to 60 years old and wearing a sheepskin coat plus a leather hat. The drunk, however, soon hitched a ride and left.

WOODACRE – A Carson Road resident at 5:09 p.m. Friday told deputies a thief had ransacked his pickup truck and car during the night. Stolen was a CD player.

TOCALOMA – A rancher at 5:28 p.m. Friday reported that a man in his 30s was "walking around with no pants" near the Tocaloma Bridge, having just defecated on the bridge. The man’s pants were now "down at his ankles," the rancher said. He added that the man’s small, green pickup truck was parked at the bridge and that there was a second suspect in the area.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 10:08 p.m. last Thursday reported returning from vacation to find her house ransacked, the lights on, and the backdoor "broken open."

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 11:14 a.m. last Thursday reported that his wife, who has a court-issued restraining order for him to leave her alone, had called him three times in the last 20 minutes, violating the temporary restraining order.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 12:52 p.m. last Thursday showed up at the sheriff’s substation to report a license plate had been stolen off his 1989 Ford pickup truck.

BOLINAS – A Fern Road resident at 1:43 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that a woman, who lives out of a car she parks in Stinson Beach, had been threatening her and other people. The resident said she was bicycling when the other woman "took a swing" at her and almost knocked her off the bicycle. The resident described the homeless woman as angry and making fists at drivers and the resident’s neighbors. The resident said she previously had a disagreement with the homeless woman after the woman "tapped" the resident’s vehicle with the car she lives in.

BOLINAS – A drunk woman accidentally cut her wrist when she broke a window at the library last Thursday. Town firefighters stopped the bleeding but at 5:56 p.m. called for additional help from county paramedics.

POINT REYES STATION – The Highway Patrol at 1:46 a.m. last Thursday forwarded a report of a hit-run collision on the levee road. The victim initially told deputies he thought the culprit was parked downtown. However, he eventually concluded the parked car was not the one involved and decided he didn’t want to stick around to file a report.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident at 9:28 a.m. last Wednesday asked a deputy to check finger prints following an earlier burglary at her house.

NICASIO – A San Francisco policeman riding a bicycle detained a motorist on charges of "reckless driving" after catching up with the motorist at the town square last Wednesday. The policeman said the motorist, whom he described as "cooperative," had crossed over a double yellow line.

INVERNESS PARK – Deer season having opened, a Drake’s View Drive resident at 10:54 a.m. last Wednesday asked deputies how far hunters have to be from residences when shooting. A deputy told The Light that under county law, people cannot shoot guns, including air rifles, within 150 yards of a residence.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman on Highway 1 at 5:32 p.m. last Wednesday reported her car’s window had been smashed and a briefcase stolen.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 7:51 p.m. Nov. 15 notified deputies that a caller had threatened to shoot her. She said she believed the caller was her ex-husband, who had phoned her two hours earlier. She said she had also received a call from a woman who said, "Your life is in danger." The woman mentioned an AK-47 military rifle.

MUIR BEACH – A Bolinas resident at 9:58 p.m. Nov. 25 notified deputies a VW hatchback had been parked beside Highway 1 near Slide Ranch for 10 days and had been tagged for towing by the Highway Patrol. One hundred feet away next to a path, the woman said, she had found "a pair of long johns with a moderate amount of blood around the waistband area."

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 11:07 p.m. Nov. 25 said a "repo man" may have tried to enter her house while repossessing her car. A deputy referred her to an attorney.

STINSON BEACH – A Panoramic Highway resident at 9:03 a.m. Nov. 25 told deputies he had learned from his bank that someone had stolen his bank-account information.

WOODACRE – A resident at 9:19 a.m. Nov. 25 reported having a dispute with a neighbor regarding "water flow." A deputy gave him advice.
