November 24, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A burglar entered a man's home along Olema-Bolinas Road and stole a briefcase, jewelry, and other property.
DOGTOWN - A woman notified deputies she had received a phone call from a person making "moaning" noises. Deputies noted the woman lives within federal parkland and advised her to call rangers should it happen again.
WOODACRE - A woman told deputies she had just learned from a neighbor that a trespasser had used her hot tub during October. The neighbor at the time thought the trespasser was a house guest, she said. The trespasser was described as a man in his 20s.
BOLINAS - A man notified deputies that an old stationwagon was parked on private property with a battery charger hooked up. He said he and a companion believed the car was leaking gasoline, but when they tried to talk with the stationwagon's owner, he slammed a door in the man's face. Deputies determined the owner of the vehicle was a landlord on his own property, but reported they would call him anyway.
NICASIO - A deputy gave advice to an Old Rancheria Road resident who reported having problems with a neighbor.
BOLINAS - A young man, who lives in a mobilehome on his mother's property, told deputies her boyfriend had vandalized his car by ramming it with a vehicle. A deputy determined there had been no vandalism and gave the boyfriend advice. There are two more dwellings on the property, with the mother normally living in the larger home and a second son living in the smaller. While the mother is out of town, the boyfriend is staying in her house. Apparently, the sons feel that they, and not the boyfriend, should be living in the house while she's away, a deputy reported. In any case, the boyfriend at 10:15 p.m. complained to deputies that the pair were in their mother's house, throwing his property out the door, and yelling at him from a window. Officers contacted the mother, who told them that the boyfriend should be in the house and her sons shouldn't. A deputy stood by while the boyfriend retrieved his belongings. The officer advised him to start locking his doors and to contact deputies the following day.
LAGUNITAS - Firefighters took a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident to Marin General Hospital after he complained of abdominal pains. Because the man was only "borderline cooperative," a deputy escorted the ambulance.
STINSON BEACH - A homeowner on Calle del Prado told deputies he has an ongoing problems with his neighbors over his leaving a light on much of the time. He said that when he went by the house last week, he found the power had been cut off. He said he suspects the neighbors did it. A deputy gave advice to both parties.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man on Juarez Avenue told deputies he wanted to charge someone with being a war criminal. When an officer checked the man's driver's license, he noted the license had expired, and the man surrendered it.
NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road resident notified deputies that someone had taken the cover off his hot tub, folded it, and put it in a corner. He said he had checked with his children, and they hadn't done it. Nothing else appeared amiss, he added.
POINT REYES STATION - A Highway 1 resident complained about loud music coming from a neighbor's home, where the end of a successful adult soccer season was being celebrated. When a deputy contacted the host, the officer was told the party would be "shutting down in a few minutes."
INVERNESS PARK - A grandmother told deputies she has custody of her granddaughter and she needed advice because the girl's mother is coming to town. No one was home when a deputy went to her house, so the officer reported he would try to reach her by phone.
POINT REYES STATION - Deputies shortly after midnight received a complaint about loud music from a bar.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies at 1:30 p.m. received separate reports from a man and a woman in the West Cintura Avenue area that they could hear continuous gunfire.
POINT REYES STATION - A North Overlook Road resident reported hearing several quick, loud, booms and suggested poachers might be shooting. Deputies could not find anyone firing guns.
MARSHALL - A man reported that his wallet was taken from his vehicle in Point Reyes Station.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that a vandal had damaged two fig trees on her property. A deputy determined there had been no vandalism and that the branches "just fell off."
OLEMA - The Humane Society asked a deputy to shoot a deer injured in traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
OLEMA - A woman told deputies that the previous night she had dropped a second woman off at the youth hostel and was concerned about the second woman because she wasn't dressed for winter.
NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road resident asked to file a report about someone falsely accusing her of child neglect.
WOODACRE - A builder working in San Geronimo reported that decorative rocks had been stolen from a construction site and used by neighbors to make a rock wall.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - Firefighters at 7 a.m. notified deputies that cows on the roadway were creating a traffic hazard. The firemen said they had already phoned a neighboring rancher.
OLEMA VALLEY - Deputies received a report of a brown calf outside its pasture and at the edge of Highway 1. Officers notified the animal's owner.
WOODACRE - A woman on Crescent Court reported some unauthorized person is using her credit card number. A deputy gave her advice.
BOLINAS - A woman complained about a juvenile, alternately described as "tall" or "stocky" - but in either case barefoot - hanging around soccer games at the school for five hours and bothering other juveniles. The woman said the boy later began pushing other kids around. At one point he pretended to play with the woman's daughter, she said, and then put a plastic garbage bag over the girl's head.
BOLINAS - A resident complained about her neighbor's hot tub being noisy. She said the neighbor is not a fulltime resident, but the hot tub, which is under her bedroom window, is on a timer.
November 18, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
TOMALES - The high school notified deputies that two juveniles had been caught with marijuana. An officer cited them to the Sheriff's Juvenile Division.
STINSON BEACH - A man reported that a burglar had stolen a cellular phone from his car while it was parked in the Patios neighborhood.
WOODACRE - Deputies received a 911-hangup call from a payphone. When they called back, a child answered. Officers then checked payphones throughout the San Geronimo Valley without finding anything amiss.
SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive man reported that a burglar had cut a hole in a gate and cut the locks to a building in order to steal chainsaws and other property.
TOMALES - A man reported that a burglar took personal items from his car while it was parked at night along Highway 1.
STINSON BEACH - A woman reported that a man in a small, red car threw rocks at her and other people. She said the car was now parked a block away and that its driver is regularly institutionalized.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Juarez Avenue woman found her windshield wipers in the standing position (away from the glass) when she went out to her car in the morning. She said she believed it was the work of her ex-boyfriend, against whom she has secured a court's restraining order.
STINSON BEACH - A woman claimed a teacher was selling drugs. A deputy gave her advice.
POINT REYES STATION - A man turned over to deputies a fannypack found on B Street.
BOLINAS - A father on Horseshoe Hill Road at 2 p.m. reported his 11-year-old son had been missing for two hours.
INVERNESS - A vehicle with four occupants plunged 45 feet down an embankment when it ran off the Ottinger's Hill section of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 4 p.m. Three occupants were transported to a hospital. The roadway was closed while a tow truck with a long cable retrieved the vehicle.
LAGUNITAS - An 18-year-old girl was reported missing at 7:15 p.m. However, the girl's mother at 11:30 p.m. reported her daughter had been located and was fine.
LAGUNITAS - A boy about eight years old called 911 to report he had just been hurt. He then hung up. A deputy determined the boy was playing with the phone.
WOODACRE - A Railroad Avenue woman at 10:20 p.m. reported her 16-year-old daughter was in San Francisco with her boyfriend. The woman said she wanted to report her daughter as a runaway.
STINSON BEACH - The Highway Patrol asked deputies to help a motorist stranded for six hours along Highway 1 near Audubon Canyon Ranch. The CHP said it was having trouble finding a company willing to tow the motorist's vehicle.
BOLINAS - An elderly woman on Horseshoe Hill Road called deputies, saying she was deaf and that there was a sick person at her home. Firefighters responded, and everything turned out fine.
WOODACRE - An elderly woman arrived in the lobby of the San Rafael Police Department and said she was lost. The woman noted she has a daughter who lives on Pine Avenue in Woodacre.
INVERNESS PARK - A man reported that his wife swallowed a bottle's worth of pills. She told deputies that she was okay. Crying while on the phone, the wife said the pills were only Advil and that she had spit them out. She was transported to the county crisis unit at Marin General Hospital. The next day, her husband asked a deputy for advice in dealing with the situation and was given advice.
POINT REYES STATION - A merchant reported there had been a case of fraud and that she had the documents to prove it.
STINSON BEACH - A Seadrift Road woman reported someone has been listening in on her phone calls. A deputy gave her advice.
WOODACRE - An Elm Avenue woman reported that baseball cards belonging to her son had been stolen by a friend of his while no one was home. A deputy advised both boys' mothers to handle the problem.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman reported that someone was living in a van parked across the street. A deputy determined that the van was parked legally and that no one was in it.
LAGUNITAS - A woman reported that a man staying with a neighbor across the street threw a piece of wood at her vehicle as she drove away. A deputy gave her advice and checked on the welfare of the neighbor.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman at noon reported hearing a man and woman quarreling loudly at Juarez Avenue and Montezuma Road. A deputy contacted a witness and one of the people involved, but neither was cooperative, and everyone left the scene.
NICASIO - A man asked for advice concerning someone volunteering for a nonprofit.
WOODACRE - A burglar stole various items from a shed on Redwood Drive.
INVERNESS - A Kehoe Way resident returned home and found a person in his house who did not have permission to be there.
TOMALES - A burglar stole a purse containing cash from a vehicle parked along Highway 1.
November 11, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
INVERNESS - At the request of the Humane Society, a deputy at 6:15 p.m. shot a deer that had been severely injured in traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
BOLINAS - A mother called deputies to report her 12-year-old foster son was smashing windows and that she had locked herself in a bedroom. A deputy arrested the juvenile on charges of battery against his foster mother.
NICASIO - A woman reported being followed for several days by a stranger. She said a male friend is getting a divorce and that his wife has hired a private investigator to tail her. A deputy confirmed that the stranger was a PI, but because of licensing problems, the PI agreed to discontinue his investigation.
STINSON BEACH - A burglar broke into a woman's house on Panoramic Highway and stole $3,000 worth of property, including a computer and personal property.
INVERNESS - A man at 8 p.m. called deputies from a restaurant to say he could see a bright light beside Highway 1 on the other side of Tomales Bay. He said a car might have run into the bay. A deputy determined, however, that the light was coming from workers at an oyster bed.
TOMALES - A woman at 10 p.m. reported that a suspicious vehicle had been parked all day at different locations in the area and was now on Carmody Road near Fallon. She said the vehicle had out-of-state license plates. A deputy could not find it.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman at 10:45 p.m. complained about a brown van parked along Church Street on private property. A deputy found someone sleeping in the van and moved the motorist along.
BOLINAS - A man asked deputies to be aware that people were hanging out around an abandoned house and feeding cats.
HICKS VALLEY - A car overturned on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, but no one was injured. The accident left a girl stranded, and deputies left a message for her mother to pick her up at the Hicks Valley firehouse.
NICASIO - A woman reported that a male and female were living in a Nicasio Valley Road cottage that was supposed to be vacant. A deputy said he would check for "parental information."
FOREST KNOLLS - A man on Juarez Avenue asked to speak with a female deputy about possible child prostitution. The deputy concluded there was no criminal activity going on and gave the man advice.
OLEMA - A motorist saw a man sitting by Sir Francis Drake Boulevard as she drove by at 8 a.m. She told deputies he might need assistance, but they could not find him.
TOMALES - A Tomales-Petaluma Road man at 8:10 a.m. complained about a motorcyclist "peeing by the side of the road." The man said the motorcyclist "does this every Sunday." The biker had just driven away, the man added.
INVERNESS - A Cameron Street resident reported that for a second time, someone had dumped a large box of garbage in his driveway. He said he carried the garbage out to the street.
LAGUNITAS - A deputy told the owner of a boat on a trailer parked at Lagunitas and Spring roads to move it. The owner said the boat would be moved the next day.
WOODACRE - Two neighbors on Carson Road have a dispute, and one of them complained to deputies about people parking on private property in front of her house.
NICASIO - A woman living on Camino Margarita complained at 7:20 a.m. Saturday about loud noise from construction.
BOLINAS - A woman at 10:30 a.m. called deputies from Fern Road to report her boyfriend had pushed her out of a car. When she tried to dial 911, she added, he wrestled the phone away from her.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Montezuma Avenue man reported that for six months he has been receiving harassing phone calls in which the caller says nothing.
BOLINAS - A man at 3:15 p.m. complained that kids were drinking on Hillside Avenue and playing a boombox loudly. A deputy moved the juveniles along.
POINT REYES STATION - The Humane Society asked a deputy to look for a deer that had been injured in traffic on Highway 1 an hour earlier. An officer could not find the deer.
WOODACRE - A woman living on Conifer Way asked for advice in dealing possible harassment from a landlord.
BOLINAS - Deputies received a report that three minors may have had sexual contact.
SAN GERONIMO - A man reported receiving harassing phone calls at random hours for the past two weeks. No one speaks when he answers the phone, the man said.
STINSON BEACH - The Humane Society asked that a deputy pick up a dog that was in front of a business because a Humane Society officer could not get to Stinson Beach before the dog left. As it turned out, neither could a deputy.
MUIR BEACH - A woman on Pacific Way reported finding a bag containing clothing, wine, and a checkbook. A deputy determined the bag belong to a friend of the woman, and she said she would return it.
MARSHALL - After a resident at 5:15 p.m. reported a car honking, a deputy found the vehicle had crashed at Highway 1 and the Marshall-Petaluma Road. No one was injured.
BOLINAS - A woman at 6:30 p.m. reported that someone on the beach was having trouble breathing and that the tide was high. Deputies and firefighters responded, and the victim was transported to a hospital.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that as she drove past a "skinny" man at Alder and Overlook roads, he pulled out what could be a taser (which gives an electrical shock) or something similar and pointed it at her tires.
TOMALES - A schoolbus driver at 9 a.m. reported there had been a trespasser in the bus yard and that the person was now at a house in the area.
NICASIO - A Point Reyes woman at 10 a.m. called deputies from the postoffice to complain that a female bicyclist had grabbed her and pushed her even though she was holding a two year old in her arms. The bicyclist, who was described as a brunette wearing a yellow shirt and sunglasses, then pedaled away with three other bicyclists, the Point Reyes woman said.
SAN GERONIMO - An anonymous caller told deputies that a builder had dumped debris consisting of wood and nails in the middle of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol.
SAN GERONIMO - A man reported that his girlfriend had found an apparently abandoned child's bicycle near the school.
NICASIO - A man at 10 p.m. reported returning home and finding the gate open, the front door forced ajar, and the house ransacked. A deputy determined that the owner of the house had lost his key and had broken through his own door.
BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road complained that four homeless men were sitting on his deck. He asked a deputy to move them off.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man reported that a
vandal had damaged his truck parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard by bending
two antennas and breaking the valve stem off a tire.
November 4, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
INVERNESS - A man told deputies that someone had used the phone in his vacation home to place three calls (at a cost of $36.29) to an offshore pornographic service in Antigua.
BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road arrested a man at 4:20 p.m. on a warrant.
NATIONAL SEASHORE - A 30- year-old Palo Alto man told his girlfriend he was going hiking alone in the park. When he failed to return to San Francisco as scheduled, she notified West Marin deputies, who relayed the information to Palo Alto police.
NICASIO - A woman on the Road to the Ranches at 12:35 p.m. notified deputies that a pickup truck driven by a man in his mid-40s was following her car "all over."
BOLINAS - A man on Mesa Road complained that a second man stole a hammer from his camp near the community garden and also assaulted him. A deputy determined that both men had been drinking and that there had been no theft and no assault. He gave both men advice.
DILLON BEACH - Deputies were notified of an alleged rape that occurred in August.
WOODACRE - A Central Avenue man at 9:15 p.m. notified deputies about a group of junior-high-age girls and boys, who were carrying eggs and paintballs. A deputy contacted a couple of youths in the group.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that a truck in pulling onto Wharf Road had nearly struck her. When she asked the driver to be more careful, he became verbally abusive, she said.
LAGUNITAS - A man complained there was a fisherman at the Inkwells on San Geronimo Creek. A deputy found no legal violation but notified the Fish and Game warden anyhow.
DILLON BEACH - A woman at 5 p.m. reported that a red car was driving recklessly on Cypress Avenue. She said the driver's girlfriend got out of the car holding a beer and saying her boyfriend was too drunk to drive. The woman said the car was now parked in a downtown parking lot. However, when deputies spoke to the woman's husband, an officer reported, the husband was uncooperative and said he didn't see the car leave. Deputies turned the whole matter over to the Highway Patrol.
BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road told deputies in Spanish that someone had threatened to hit him with a red lamp. Officers contacted the men involved, determined they had both been drinking, and that there had been no threats - only an argument.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Knob Hill Road at 11:20 p.m. reported hearing a gunshot and the alarm sounding at West Marin School. A school employee inspected the campus but found nothing amiss.
STINSON BEACH - San Rafael police reported a 15-year-old San Rafael girl was missing and might be staying with an aunt in the Calles neighborhood..
TOMALES - A woman at 11:45 p.m. complained about a film crew making too much noise and "keeping everybody up." She claimed the crew did not have a permit to film in town.
WOODACRE - Fairfax police asked deputies to look for a suspect in a child-abuse case.
NICASIO - A man told deputies he has paperwork proving he has the right to use a water tank on his neighbor's property but that the neighbor keeps trying to stop him. He asked that a deputy stand by while a truck delivered a load of water.
WOODACRE - A man, 52, was arrested on charges of violating a court's restraining order when he went to a house from which he was barred.
INVERNESS - A woman notified deputies at 9 a.m. that a man was sleeping in a red vehicle parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The vehicle was gone when a deputy arrived on the scene.
MUIR BEACH - A man at noon notified deputies that an inflatable boat without a motor was drifting offshore. Noting there appeared to be no one in the boat and that the swells were "very large," deputies referred the matter to Park Service police and the Coast Guard.
NICASIO - A county Open Space District official reported that two men about 30 were sawing wood along Nicasio Valley Road and that the wood may have come from the Open Space District. The men were gone when a deputy arrived.
CHILENO VALLEY - Deputies at 1:25 a.m. received a report of black-and-white cows in the middle of the road. An officer could not find the Holsteins but contacted a neighboring rancher.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Tamal Road resident
at 11:45 a.m. received a phone call from a man who said he wanted to visit
the resident and perform oral sex on him. The man said he was calling from
a payphone, the resident added. Deputies determined there was no merit to
the phone call.
