November 25, 1998 Sheriff's Calls

FOREST KNOLLS - A burglar stole an electric grinder, drill, and saw, as well as some checks, from a pickup truck parked on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

FOREST KNOLLS - Deputies were notified that a window had been broken at a business on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. However, no one entered the business, an officer reported.

TOMALES - A thief stole property from a high school student's gym locker.

STINSON BEACH - A deputy stopped a female motorist, noticed that she appeared to have been drinking, and turned her over to the Highway Patrol, which arrested her on drunk-driving charges.

STINSON BEACH - During a quarrel, a Highway 1 resident damaged a vehicle he and his wife own.

BOLINAS - Keys to the school were lost, but a janitor found them.

POINT REYES STATION - A man complained that he has secured a court's restraining order requiring a woman to leave him alone, but she is now having a friend call to harass him in violation of the court order.

OLEMA - A woman parked at National Seashore headquarters reported her vehicle's front license plate was missing.

NICASIO - A man living on the Road to the Ranches reported that someone obtained his credit card number and is using it to get access to websites.

POINT REYES STATION - A merchant reported that a thief took more than $1,000 from her cash drawer.

WOODACRE - Deputies received notification that two vehicles on Redwood Drive had been ransacked during the night, but nothing was taken.

MARSHALL - A Highway 1 resident told a deputy she had given a motorist permission to park in her driveway for a short time, but five weeks later, the motorist's vehicle was still there. A deputy gave her advice.

NICASIO - A vehicle hit a phone pole along Nicasio Valley Road. No one was injured in the crash, which left the pole blocking the southbound lane. A deputy referred the mishap to the Highway Patrol.

WOODACRE - A man reported that a thief stole tools from a locked truck parked on Carson Road.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - After a car hit at deer at 7:30 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to determine whether the deer needed to be dispatched. It didn't and walked off.

BOLINAS - A man and woman on Olema-Bolinas Road got into a quarrel at 4 a.m. The man drove off to Thirteen Turns, and she went for a walk. A deputy warned the man that vehicle habitation is illegal in Marin County.

BOLINAS - A deputy found a 54-year-old man sleeping in a vehicle parked at Alder Road and Overlook Drive. The officer warned him vehicle habitation is illegal, and the man left.

STINSON BEACH - A Calle del Mar resident reported that while her son's friends were in her house the previous night, someone stole her purse, a cellular phone, a pager, and a jacket.

LAGUNITAS -A Barranca Road resident complained about possible trespassing on his property when he's away. A deputy gave him advice.

FOREST KNOLLS - A resident reported seeing a possible burglary in progress. A man was sifting through items in an old boat, the resident said.

MARSHALL - A woman reported a deer had been hit on Highway 1 and asked deputies if it needed to be shot. An officer could not find the deer.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman complained that it appears her estranged husband has tapped into her phone line.

STINSON BEACH - A man at 1:20 a.m. asked for deputies to look for an injured deer. They couldn't find one.

MARSHALL - A man reported a suspicious, older vehicle was parked on the Marshall-Petaluma Road a half mile from Wilson Hill. A deputy contacted the vehicle's driver, and found the man was just resting.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - County firefighters reported an illegal fire at 10:15 p.m. They had it put out but said it started up again. They asked for officers to stand by at the scene.

POINT REYES STATION - A motorist, who had been drinking, ran into a ditch at Highway 1 and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. She received a bloody nose, and deputies referred the mishap to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road at 3 a.m. complained of music being turned up and down. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

NICASIO - A vehicle high-centered on Camino Margarita with one wheel off the roadway. A tow truck freed the vehicle.

STINSON BEACH - A car owned by a woman from Greenbrae overturned at Highway 1 and Calle del Mar.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road at 10 p.m. reported having a quarrel with a man. The man told deputies the woman is emotionally disturbed and verbally abusive. A deputy reported the problem is ongoing.

TOMALES - A man in Cotati called deputies here to say men in two pickup trucks had followed his mother to her Highway 1 home at 11 p.m.

DILLON BEACH - A member of the Mexican consular corps asked deputies to help locate an Oceana Drive woman, who was named in the estate of someone who had died in Mexico.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman at 3 p.m. reported she was walking westbound along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard away from the school when a man urinated in front of her. When she told him to move along because children were present, he made an obscene gesture, she said.

WOODACRE - A Crescent Drive woman notified deputies she had 125 bullets she wanted to turn over to deputies. Officers took them for destruction.

BOLINAS - A woman complained that a man about 55 years old had verbally accosted her in the postoffice. He was gone when a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies at 9 p.m. received a report of a cow loose on Highway 1. Officers contacted its owner.

POINT REYES STATION - A rancher reported that someone had dumped stumps on his property.

POINT REYES STATION - A man living on A Street complained that for two weeks he has been receiving midnight phone calls from someone calling about an ad for an "exotic paradise."

 

November 19, 1998 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A man reported losing his driver's license and a credit card while shopping in Novato.

STINSON BEACH - A deputy found a 58-year-old man passed out in front of a business and arrested him on charges of public drunkenness. However, the man was later released from jail without being formally charged. Three days earlier, a deputy arrested the same man on the same charge in downtown Bolinas.

LAGUNITAS - An Arroyo Road resident notified deputies that Grateful Dead memorabilia had been taken from her home.

HICKS VALLEY - A vehicle hit a deer at Novato and Point Reyes-Petaluma roads, severely injuring it. A deputy shot the deer to put it out of its misery.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Maple Road arrested a man on a warrant for failing to appear in court for a case involving driving with a suspended license.

STINSON BEACH - A deputy downtown arrested a man on charges of public drunkenness.

BOLINAS - A Horseshoe Hill Road resident complained that her persimmon tree had been stripped of fruit.

INVERNESS - A motorist backed into a woman's rental car parked on Callender Way, causing minor damage. The woman said he left a note, and a deputy gave her advice.

INVERNESS PARK - A resident asked for advice in dealing with a former employee, and a deputy gave him advice.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman at 9 a.m. complained there had been sporadic gunshots for more than one hour. A deputy left a message for the woman that this is duck season, and it is legal to hunt.

SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident reported fraud involving his checking account. A deputy gave him advice.

BOLINAS - A bartender called deputies to request that a man be removed from the bar. The bartender also said the man had threatened him. The problem was abated before a deputy arrived on the scene.

INVERNESS PARK - A couple complained that their neighbors on Portola Avenue are keeping about 20 parrots, and the noise is "unbearable." The squawking interferes with their sleep, they said. A deputy gave them advice.

FOUR CORNERS - A car ran off the road and into a ditch, but its occupants were uninjured, a passing motorists told firefighters in Hicks Valley at 8:15 p.m..

BOLINAS - A car overturned on Mesa Road at 11:30 p.m., coming to rest upside down. Deputies referred the accident to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS - A car on Wharf Road at 1:30 a.m. smashed into a parked car. No one was injured.

POINT REYES STATION - A man reported receiving more than 25 threatening calls per day from a woman who is his former employer.

LAGUNITAS - A man complained that juveniles after dark congregate to drink beer and Lagunitas Road and Mountain View Avenue. He said they leave bottles around the area.

WOODACRE - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident reported hearing three gunshots in five minutes. A deputy noted the noise may have been a tractor backfiring.

NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road woman reported hearing gunshots from the woods behind her neighbors' home. She said the neighbor's son might been shooting.

STINSON BEACH - An Arenal Avenue resident complained that parked cars were blocking his house. The vehicles were moved.

WOODACRE - A woman at 11:30 p.m. complained about loud music on Crescent Court. A deputy reported that he "contacted an uncooperative homeowner who turned down the noise."

LAGUNITAS - Deputies at 3 a.m. received a complaint about music from a party along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. All was quiet when an officer went to the area, but deputies later received a complaint that the music was continuing. Again, a deputy tried unsuccessfully to locate any loud music.

BOLINAS - A man complained that a second man had been illegally living in a truck and trailer parked on Overlook Drive. However, the second man had driven off a half hour ago, he added.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman at 4:20 a.m. reported finding a young man inside her house, which is a bed-and-breakfast inn. At first she did not recognize him but later concluded he was the son of an employee.

WOODACRE - A Madrone Avenue man reported hearing rifle shots at 8 p.m. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man complained about a howling dog, which had been left all day in a red sports utility vehicle parked on Montezuma Avenue. He described the dog as an overweight cocker spaniel.

BOLINAS - A man at 2 a.m. called deputies to report that a woman on Wharf Road had been yelling at someone for half an hour. A deputy determined the woman was talking to herself.

TOMALES - A woman found a large clump of blonde hair on the ground beside Gericke Road and reported the "strange" discovery to deputies. An officer determined the hair was a "swath off a cow's tail."

NICASIO - A man at 9 p.m. reported hearing 15 to 20 rounds of rapid gunfire on a hill by Santa Margarita Road.

NICASIO - A man reported that someone on Nicasio Valley Road was throwing bottles and apples at passing cars. His car had been hit by both, he said. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

November 12, 1998 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS PARK - Deputies received a report that a possibly crazy man was yelling along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 11:15 p.m. A deputy could not find him.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a report of a verbal dispute on Wharf Road. An officer abated the problem.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Cypress Road reported her neighbor's three dogs killed all her chickens and she had caught one of the dogs. She asked that the Humane Society not be sent out, but an officer asked that the society pick up the dog and notify its owner.

MARSHALL - A woman reported a cellular phone was stolen from her car when it was parked in Point Reyes Station.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman, 50, reported there was a ghost in her residence and that someone had taken her teeth.

NICASIO - At the request of Child Protective Services, a deputy checked a report of possible child abuse and decided there was no merit to the report.

WOODACRE - A woman reported that two months ago a diamond-and-gold necklace was stolen from her kitchen while her daughter's college friends were at her house.

SAN GERONIMO - Although a husband has filed for divorce, he is still living with his wife, and she found a tap on their phone with several tapes of phone calls. A deputy gave her advice.

STINSON BEACH - A man at Steep Ravine heard another man cursing and sounding as if he were pounding something. The first man did not hear any other voices, and fog prevented him from seeing the second man.

STINSON BEACH - A car ran into Bolinas Lagoon and rolled over.

TOMALES - Deputies received a report that an overweight man with red hair had for two weeks in a row been illegally living in a vehicle parked at Second and Carrie streets.

STINSON BEACH - A deputy arrested a man on a warrant in connection with a public drunkenness case.

STINSON BEACH - A man told deputies that while he was at a wedding reception in the community center, his suit coat was taken from a chair - probably by accident.

NICASIO - A deputy found a camera tripod belonging to a man who had been previously questioned by officers.

MARSHALL - A man found a wallet in the parking lot of Nick's Cove and turned it over to a deputy.

TOMALES - A nonprofit organization received a call from a man who said, "There is a bomb in the building." He then hung up. Deputies checked and found no bomb.

 

November 5, 1998 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS - At the request of an Inverness Way woman, a court issued an emergency protective order that forbade her husband from going near their house. He then asked a deputy to stand by so he could retrieve clothing from the house, and a standby was provided.

NICASIO - A vandal throwing a rock broke the passenger-door window of a woman's car parked on Nicasio Valley Road. The vandal also sprayed the car's exterior with shaving cream.

SAN GERONIMO - A man told deputies that for the third time his car had been vandalized while at his daughter's school along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The car's paint has been scratched and its tires slashed, the man said, adding that he thinks he knows who the culprit is.

SAN GERONIMO - A burglar stole a cable-TV box from a house on Sylvestris Drive.

TOMALES - A vandal threw a rock through a Highway 1 merchant's window, she told deputies at 12:30 a.m.

POINT REYES STATION - Firefighters found an old bicycle behind the firestation and turned it over to deputies.

INVERNESS - An Oakland man said he was at Chicken Ranch Beach when a burglar stole money from a wallet in his parked car.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy at Highway 1 and Second Street took into custody a 37-year-old man on charges of public drunkenness. The man was later released without being formally charged.

NICASIO - A resident along the Road to the Ranches reported that someone had accessed his AOL account, posted unsolicited email, and requested services, as well as information on the resident's credit cards.

BOLINAS - A burglar stole a stereo speaker and amplifier from a car parked on Iris Road. The loss was estimated at $1,300.

INVERNESS - A vandal slashed the tires of a car parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and stole a set of socket wrenches from the car's trunk.

MUIR BEACH - A vandal damaged a car parked along Highway 1.

BOLINAS - A nighttime burglar stole a radio and CD player from the dashboard of a woman's car parked on Cherry Drive.

POINT REYES STATION - After a bartender accused a vacationing man, 49, of using drugs in the bar's restroom, the man asked to speak with a deputy but left the bar before an officer arrived.

MARSHALL - Deputies at 11:20 p.m. were notified of a white horse loose on Highway 1. An officer later reported the horse was off the roadway and headed up a driveway.

BOLINAS - Child Protective Services asked deputies to determine whether a boy had been abused by his parents.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Marin Municipal Water District meter reader told a deputy that a house was using an excessive amount of water although no outside faucets were on. When a deputy checked, one door was unlocked, but no one responded to the officer's knock.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A ranger reported that white paint had been spilled for a quarter of a mile on the road to the Mount Vision Overlook. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS - A resident complained that two people in a van were illegally camping on Wharf Road and were barbecuing food. A deputy told the people to move along, but 80 minutes later, officers received a report that the people were still there.

BOLINAS - A woman reported her computer and television were taken while she was out of her Ocean Parkway house. A deputy determined there had been no burglary - just a dispute between a husband and wife.

BOLINAS - A resident told deputies that a man was living in a motorhome in front of the resident's Wharf Road home. When he asked the man to move along, the resident said, the man threatened him.

TOMALES - A girl reported that a husband and wife had gotten into a quarrel.

NICASIO - A vandal threw a rock that broke the window of a woman's car parked at the town square.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint that four or five illegally parked vehicles were impeding traffic on Wharf Road.

DILLON BEACH - A helicopter was dispatched after a citizen had an apparent heart attack at 7 p.m.

NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road woman reported hearing gunshots and a car speeding off. Deputies could not find the car.

POINT REYES STATION - A man at 8 p.m. notified deputies that 20 kids were on Highway 1 throwing eggs.

BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue woman at 10:15 p.m. complained that two cars were parked in her driveway.

SAN GERONIMO - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard man complained about people playing bongos for the last few hours. Deputies found an adult party underway with some people drinking. They quieted the drums.

WOODACRE - A Maple Road man at 11:30 p.m. complained about a loud party with music and kids. A deputy quieted down the party.

POINT REYES STATION - A Tomasini Canyon Road resident at 1 a.m. reported hearing someone throwing things. When deputies checked, they found pumpkin remnants.

INVERNESS - When a burglar alarm went off at an Edgemont Way house, deputies checked and decided a cat had set off the alarm.

INVERNESS PARK - A merchant, citing vandalism to her business, asked for extra patrols. When deputies checked, they found no new damage - just some juveniles hanging around outside.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman reported that a car with Montana license plates had run off the pavement at Highway 1 and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. She said the car, which was still there, had broken a fence and that there were animals which needed to be fenced in. Deputies referred the accident to the Highway Patrol.

WOODACRE - A woman living on Railroad Avenue reported hearing that some 14-year-old boys planned to shoot paintballs in the neighborhood on Halloween.

INVERNESS - A man at 1:40 a.m. notified deputies that a couple on Madrone Avenue were screaming at each other.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman at 1:15 a.m. called deputies to say her husband, who was in their driveway, was upset because he believes she is having an affair. She said he had threatened to kill her and himself. A deputy spoke to him on the phone.

BOLINAS - An anonymous caller reported that a man was acting "weird." The caller said the man, who might be using drugs, was smoking a pipe while standing near a pickup truck "ranting and raving." A deputy could not find him.

WOODACRE - A citizen fell off a ladder along Center Avenue. Firefighters responded.

STINSON BEACH - A man, who works in Sausalito, told Santa Rosa Police he had lost his green card while on a family outing to the beach.

BOLINAS - A Larch Road resident notified deputies she had received mailings which, she believes, are part of a scam by a Nigerian bank. She recalled reading in The New York Times that the FBI and Interpol are investigating such a scam.

WOODACRE - A woman at 11:20 p.m. returned to her Castle Rock Avenue home and found a light on inside but no sign of forced entry. She told deputies that nothing appeared to be missing.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that a man in a wooded area off Kale Road was shouting, "F--k you!" over and over. She said he sounded drunk. A deputy was unable to find the man.

OLEMA - A vehicle on Bear Valley Road ran into a ditch, but no one was hurt.

STINSON BEACH - A woman, who sublet her home to another woman, reported her landlord in Greenbrae had made threats to her over the past few days.

BOLINAS - A man said he was assaulted by another man on Wharf Road. The first man didn't want to file a complaint against the second man but merely to talk with a deputy. However, an officer was unable to find him.

BOLINAS - An Ocean Parkway resident said the woman next door is threatening her, as well as threatening to have the resident's children taken away by Child Protective Services. The resident blamed the dispute on the neighbor's septic and drug problems. A deputy gave her advice.

LAGUNITAS - A woman told deputies that people may be illegally living in a van at Lucia Lane and Rodeo Avenue. She noted there was garbage and feces all around. A deputy located a woman who was not illegally living in her van but was "just waiting around."
