November 29, 2001 Sheriff's Calls

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 7:42 p.m. Saturday complained that a man in a sleeping bag was lying under the overhanging roof at a parking lot. A deputy moved him along. At 9:53 a.m. the next day, the same woman reported the man was again in a sleeping bag at the same place. She was upset that he was still there. After being warned about trespassing, the man was once more moved along. However, at 10:17 a.m. the same day, an "extremely upset" man claimed that when the first man moved along, he left items along the roadside.

BOLINAS – An Iris Road man at 2:49 a.m. Sunday complained that a bass guitar had been "playing all night." When a deputy arrived on the scene, he "could not hear any sounds other than the ocean."

SAN GERONIMO – A woman called from the school district at 11:48 a.m. Nov. 19 to report that a drunk man was out of control in parking lot of the San Geronimo campus. A deputy arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness.

STINSON BEACH – A gardener at 12:28 p.m. Nov. 19 notified deputies that a burglar had stolen an Indian mortar and pestle, as well as rocks from a rock garden (collectively worth $1,000). Also taken from the Belvedere Avenue home she was taking care of were $1,600 worth of irrigation equipment, the gardener said

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 1:16 p.m. Nov. 19 reported losing a green-cloth wallet containing credit cards and an ATM card.

BOLINAS – A woman at 2:27 p.m. Nov. 19 reported her 17-year-old son was out of control and threatening her with a cane. She said he might be high on drugs.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 3:20 p.m. Nov. 19 reported a three-foot-deep pile of brush, including poison oak, was totally covering North Rodeo Avenue and obstructing traffic. Such illegal dumping has been rampant on the coast ever since the West Marin Sanitary Landfill closed in 1998 and Supervisor Steve Kinsey nixed a proposed dropoff site in West Marin.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 4:19 p.m. Nov. 19 received a report that a cow was loose on Highway 1 halfway between Olema and Point Reyes Station. After a deputy could not contact the cow’s owner, he turned the matter over to the Highway Patrol.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 1:42 a.m. Nov. 20 reported someone was trying to break into his large, metal barn, which contains an office. He said the barn is 50 feet from his house. The man told deputies he had sicced his German shepherd on the burglar.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 2:56 a.m. Nov. 20 reported he was dealing with a loose cow on Highway 1.

INVERNESS – A resident at 7:25 p.m. Sunday reported a tree had fallen across Aberdeen Way, knocking down power lines and preventing three families from leaving their homes. After Inverness firefighters confirmed the problem, deputies summoned PG&E to take care of the power lines and the county Department of Public Works to cut up the tree.

LAGUNITAS – A deputy at 10:34 a.m. Sunday stopped a silver-colored sports utility vehicle containing four people at Lagunitas Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The officer determined one of the four was wanted on a warrant for receiving stolen property. He was arrested, and his probation was revoked.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 11:07 a.m. Sunday received word that while a Tibetan teacher was conducting a class in the community center, a man and woman, who are both homeless and emotionally disturbed, entered the building, got into a quarrel, and threatened people in the class.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 3:58 p.m. Sunday called deputies from a phone booth on Calle del Mar to say that his employer, for whom he had been working for free, had grabbed him by the neck. He described the employer as "abusive."

OLEMA – A woman’s 1985 Honda Accord broke down at Highway 1 and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 5:01 p.m. Sunday.

TOMALES – A man at 10:11 p.m. Sunday reported that his 54-year-old ex-wife had not brought their 12-year-old daughter home by 6 p.m. as scheduled. He said he feared she had taken off with the juvenile and claimed she was already on probation. A deputy gave him advice.

OLEMA – A man at 10:12 p.m. Sunday reported hearing 12 gunshots in the area of the campground and the church. He said the shots may have come from deer hunters, but a deputy found no one shooting.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 10:46 a.m. Monday reported seeing a suspicious man playing a guitar while leaning against a van parked at La Vuelta and Rodeo avenues. The resident accused the man of driving recklessly in the neighborhood but then said the man had left. A deputy could not find him.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 10:50 a.m. Monday reported that a townsman was "acting irrationally" and had pushed him down as he walked past the townsman. The man said he did not need medical care.

SAN GERONIMO – A Meadow Way resident at 1:47 p.m. Monday complained that a woman with curly hair was selling magazines, saying she was a student at UC Berkeley. When the resident didn’t want to buy any magazines, she said, the vendor became "aggressive and abusive."

POINT REYES STATION – A woman on Fourth Street at 3:51 p.m. Monday told officers she had received a suspicious package from England. A deputy checked it for anthrax and determined the package contained a solicitation letter from South Africa.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies were notified at 4:41 p.m. Monday of a "fender bender" on Highway 1. There were no injuries, and the drivers exchanged information.

OLEMA – A woman at 4:44 p.m. Monday told deputies she had rented a 35-foot-long travel trailer to another woman, who had abandoned it without permission and is now staying in Point Reyes Station. The first woman said she has begun civil-court proceedings against the second woman.

MUIR BEACH – A Highway 1 resident reported her 46-year-old husband had shoved her and she fell to the ground. A deputy, however, noted the problem was now "abated, as he is now sitting in another room reading a book."

BOLINAS – Firefighters at 9:54 p.m. Monday were summoned to Mesa Road where someone injured a hip. A deputy tried to assist them but could not get to the scene because his patrolcar developed mechanical problems.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

 

November 22, 2001 Sheriff's Calls

NVERNESS – A Bay View Way resident last Wednesday notified deputies that a burglar had stolen a generator from his storage shed.

BOLINAS – Deputies were summoned to Wharf Road after a 39-year-old man reported that a 56-year-old, intoxicated man had swung two barstools at him – and hit him in the legs with one of them. The younger man told deputies the 56 year old had screamed that he would break the younger man’s neck. The alleged assailant left before deputies arrived, but deputies forwarded a battery-case report to the District Attorney’s Office. Both men are Bolinas residents.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident returned home at 11 p.m. Sunday and found that her bedroom door on the outside of the house had been split in half. Her father was away at the time, and the young woman gave deputies the name of a woman who may have done the damage. Last Wednesday afternoon, the other woman had accused the young woman of tearing down her fence. That dispute was abated upon the arrival of a deputy, who gave both parties advice.

BOLINAS WYE – The Highway Patrol at 11:54 p.m. Sunday asked a deputy to check on the well-being of a woman whose BMW was disabled on the shoulder of the road. The woman told the deputy she was waiting for her boyfriend, who had left Woodacre 20 minutes earlier.

BOLINAS – A Dogwood Road woman at 11:43 a.m. Sunday asked a deputy for advice regarding a civil issue with her boyfriend/roommate. Deputies noted the woman has frequently called with complaints about him.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 2:50 p.m. Sunday received a report that two men were quarreling on Wharf Road and that there was a sharp object present. When a deputy arrived, the men were just talking. The deputy did, however, see the sharp object.

POINT REYES STATION – A citizen at 7:32 p.m. Saturday complained to the fire department that juveniles were kicking a ball between cars driving between the bank and the gas station. A deputy determined there was no problem, that a soccer ball was accidentally kicked into the street.

WOODACRE – A Castle Rock Avenue resident at 10:23 p.m. Saturday returned home to find her window open. She said that earlier she had been washing dishes when she sensed someone walking in the kitchen, but no one was there. She said she had locked herself in the bathroom and would like a deputy to inspect the house.

MUIR BEACH – A Sunset Way resident at 12:59 p.m. Saturday complained about loud music from a party. She also complained that someone had parked in front of her house, where parking on the street is signed: "For residents only." The problems were abated.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 12:08 a.m. Sunday complained that six to eight drunk people had a fire on the beach. A deputy contacted two groups of people. No one was drunk, and both groups agreed to put their fires out.

WOODACRE – A Fire Road resident at 1:36 a.m. Sunday complained about many vehicles driving up the dirt road and making considerable noise. A deputy contacted several groups of people and advised them to "keep it down."

POINT REYES STATION – A Cypress Road resident at 9 a.m. Saturday reported that someone’s Chevrolet flatbed pickup truck was in her driveway. She said the vehicle had possibly just rolled downhill, as it was stuck on a gate post. Deputies determined the truck was registered to a Marshall woman.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies on Saturday asked the county Department of Public Works to do something about Scotch broom that had been dumped on Rodeo Avenue eight days earlier. The broom was removed. Such illegal dumping has been common on the coast since the West Marin Sanitary Landfill closed in 1998 and county supervisors failed to provide an alternative dropoff site for trash.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 12:24 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a man in a cowboy hat, brown leather jacket, and blue jeans was carrying a stick and threatening to kill him and a friend. The man in the cowboy hat was described as possibly intoxicated and threatening the pair with a two-by-two-inch stick six feet long – with exposed screws. The caller subsequently said the threatening man was now in front of the library.

FOREST KNOLLS – At 4:15 p.m. Saturday a Tamal Road resident complained that a neighbor drives over the resident’s property to get to his own property. Deputies noted this is an ongoing land dispute and advised both parties to seek legal action over easement rights.

OLEMA – A woman at 7:46 p.m. Friday complained that a man who had been huddling in a blanket on the porch of one restaurant had now moved to the porch of another and was refusing to leave. Deputies checked with a detoxification center and were told the man has no medication problems.

HICKS VALLEY – The fire department at 12:19 a.m. Saturday reported a Mercedes car had spun out and hit a fence.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 4:16 a.m. Saturday received a complaint that a boy was causing a disturbance. A deputy determined the boy "was a female that looked like a male juvenile."

BOLINAS – A Spring Avenue resident last weekend reported getting numerous hangup phone calls from a stranger in Sausalito. A deputy took an harassment report and left a message on the suspect’s answering machine.

BOLINAS – A woman at 8 a.m. Friday complained about a man living in a van on the Little Mesa.

WOODACRE – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 9:40 a.m. Saturday said someone had just come by his house and told him that another person was dragging a deer by its legs across the resident’s property.

MUIR BEACH – A deliverywoman from the Sausalito Postoffice at 3:40 p.m. Friday notified deputies that she had accidentally dropped in the Zen Center mailbox a pair of earrings made from aspen leaves dipped in silver. She said she had learned what had happened to the earrings by reading a Sheriff’s Call in The Point Reyes Light. The woman noted she has a matching pin that would prove the earrings are hers. The earrings originally came to officers’ attention when a wadded up napkin containing the jewelry was found in the back of the mailbox and a deputy checked it for anthrax.

POINT REYES STATION – A lawyer at 4:27 p.m. Friday reported losing his cell phone.

OLEMA – Deputies at 5:33 p.m. Friday reported that a deer was still alive after being hit by a car on Highway 1 some 100 yards south of the stoplight. The Humane Society said it would handle the matter.

OLEMA – A man at 6:25 p.m. Friday reported a homeless man was in a lot by some garbage cans eating soup. The homeless man had a shaved head and a blanket wrapped around him, noted deputies, who "advised" the man to "head toward the freeway."

TOMALES – A member of the high school staff at 11:12 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies he had one male and one female student in his office who were high on marijuana. He added that marijuana paraphernalia had been found in one of the students’ cars and that both were being cooperative.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy was summoned to Viento Way at 7 p.m. last Thursday when a snake was found in someone’s front yard.

DOGTOWN – A deputy at 11:24 p.m. last Thursday reported he was removing a dead deer from the roadway, where it had been struck in traffic.

MARSHALL – A child began choking at 12:50 a.m. Friday while at the Environmental Education Center on the Marshall-Petaluma Road. Because it was too foggy for a rescue helicopter to land, the mother drove her child to a hospital.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies at 9 a.m. last Wednesday received an anonymous report that four or five men were in Lagunitas Creek west of Shafter Bridge. The caller was concerned about who they were. A deputy went to the scene and spoke to two Marin Municipal Water District workers, eventually concluding the men were possibly a survey crew.

HICKS VALLEY – A truck overturned on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road at 2:36 p.m. last Wednesday.

TOMALES – A Whittaker Bluff Road resident at 7:17 p.m. Nov. 12 notified deputies her son had received a suspicious phone call from someone in Washington, DC, who sounded as if he might be Arabic. The person wanted her son to call back, she said, but her son doesn’t know anyone in Washington. She asked officers for advice.

BOLINAS – A woman at 7:51 p.m. Nov. 12 notified deputies she was locked out of her residence while inside, she said, were two toddlers, a fire going in the fireplace, and water running in the bathtub. Bolinas firefighters handled the matter.

WOODACRE – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 8:23 p.m. Nov. 12 told deputies that a vandal had slashed the tires of her 16-year-old son’s car while it was parked in front of a business.

WOODACRE – A deputy at 9:23 p.m. Nov. 12 arrested a motorist at Lagunitas Road and Sylvan Way on a warrant. The motorist was also cited on charges of driving with a suspended license and driving with an obscured license plate.

November 15, 2001 Sheriff's Calls

DOGTOWN – A San Francisco woman at 1:42 a.m. Sunday reported that her husband’s car had been in a solo-vehicle accident on Highway 1 and that he was missing. She said he was possibly armed with a .308 pistol and was at high risk because of diabetes and high blood pressure.

TOMALES – A deputy at 1:45 p.m. Nov. 6 arrested a woman on charges she embezzled $1,750 from her former employer in the past month. The arrest came after the woman allegedly refused to move out of a business which she had been helping to operate.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 9:17 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that several hundred dollars worth of medicine, including anti-depressants, hormones, and stomach medication, had been stolen from her house while she was asleep. The woman said she has two children who know what happened to the medication.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 10:11 p.m. Sunday reported a man and woman were screaming on Juarez Avenue, possibly fighting over a baby. He said he heard someone shout, "Give me my baby! Get out of the way!" A deputy determined the couple were a recently separated husband and wife and that no physical violence had occurred.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 10:40 p.m. Sunday complained about noisy people "four-wheeling" in the sand dunes.

MARSHALL – A Marshall-Petaluma Road resident at 5 p.m. Saturday reported that someone had dumped half a pickup truck load of trash at the end of his driveway. He added that he had found a name on bank statements in the garbage. Deputies gave him advice.

HICKS VALLEY – A man at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 notified deputies he could hear people yelling and partying at Hicks Valley and Marshall-Petaluma roads. A deputy went to the scene and found someone had dumped lawn mowers, a stove, and other junk beside the road. Such illegal dumping has been commonplace on the coast ever since the West Marin Sanitary Landfill closed in 1998 and Supervisor Steve Kinsey blocked creation of a local dropoff site, from which trash would be hauled to a dump.

TOMALES – A deputy at 7:24 p.m. Friday reported he was dealing with three loose cows on Dillon Beach Road. He later reported the cows were back in their pasture and that ranch workers would repair the pasture’s fence.

DILLON BEACH – A resident at 2:13 a.m. Friday complained about loud music coming from a car parked at Kona Lane and Oceana Drive.

LAGUNITAS – A Rodeo Avenue resident at 8 a.m. Friday told deputies he had just heard a gunshot followed by a vehicle speeding away. He then added that he had just heard the vehicle return and zoom around the neighborhood. However, he did not see the vehicle. After talking to neighbors, a deputy determined the noise may have come from a contractor in the area and that there may have been no gunshot.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 2:37 p.m. Friday received a 911-hangup call. They later reported they could hear kids on an open line, with the kids playing with touch tones. There was no emergency, and an officer admonished the kids.

MUIR BEACH – A woman at 3:50 p.m. Friday complained about a black Nissan parked on Sunset Way. She said the car did not belong to anyone in the area and was depriving local residents of a place to park. A deputy determined the "vehicle is not a Nissan." The officer also gave the woman advice.

DOGTOWN – A deputy at 7:30 p.m. last Thursday were summoned to a school to pick up a youth, who was considered a danger to school staff. The youth was taken to Marin General Hospital for evaluation.

WOODACRE – A man at 9 p.m. last Thursday went to his mother’s home on Central Avenue and found a fire in her fireplace, her computer running, her dogs not cared for, and her missing. A deputy determined, "She was just outside when the reporting party came in."

NICASIO – A man at 7:44 a.m. last Thursday reported his girlfriend, 48, had been missing since Monday night. He said she had not called him or her adult children, who were staying with him.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Morelos Avenue resident last Thursday complained that a neighbor had dumped garbage in her driveway and a few days earlier had threatened to kill her. She said she wanted the other woman "to clean up the mess." When a deputy went to the scene, he found the victim cleaning house. Also at the scene was a man wanted on two warrants for revocation of probation. In addition, the victim’s son was present, but he was not with the suspect.

NICASIO – A motorist at 12:16 p.m. last Thursday complained that she had tried to get away from a vehicle that had tailgated her on Lucas Valley Road but would not let her pull over. She said she had a baby in the backseat.

INVERNESS – A merchant at 1:40 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a man smelling strongly of beer had tried to buy more beer but was turned down. The merchant said the man was last seen driving toward Point Reyes Station.

POINT REYES STATION – A helicopter was dispatched to the levee road at 2 p.m. last Thursday for an unconscious subject who had reported chest pains.

TOMALES – Deputies last Thursday received word of an out-of-control 15 year old, who was slamming doors and hitting walls. The boy tried to get on a school bus, but the high school wouldn’t allow it. A deputy described the youth as "just an angry boy [who] was told he was getting suspended."

BOLINAS – A man at 5:24 p.m. last Thursday complained that someone illegally sleeps in a vehicle in a parking lot on Brighton Avenue. The man said he wanted the vehicle towed away, as well as advice on how to handle the situation. He asked if getting a letter from the property owner would be enough to have the vehicle removed.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 9:08 p.m. last Wednesday reported a vehicle had run off Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and over a cliff just east of Samuel P. Taylor State Park. She said a driver and passenger were out of the vehicle but were injured. A deputy determined the injuries were minor.

CHILENO VALLEY – A resident at 10:45 a.m. last Wednesday complained he had been threatened by a second man, whom he had invited to stay with him two weeks earlier during a tournament. Since then, however, the second man has refused to leave, the resident said, adding that the threat was made after an altercation regarding the second man’s not leaving. In addition, the resident said, the second man may have done some property damage. A deputy determined there was no merit to the allegation of a threat and gave the resident advice.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 5:52 p.m. last Wednesday reported "weird things" have happened to him ever since he told deputies about marijuana use in the area.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 9:24 p.m. Nov. 6 notified deputies that a friend had seen someone walking around the back of her property. She suspected the person might be camping illegally. However, when her two teenage sons went outside with flashlights, they found no one.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A ranger at 8:20 a.m. Nov. 6 reported that a Mercedes Benz parked on Pierce Point Road had been burglarized by someone who smashed a window. In addition, the ranger said, the victim had a broken arm and a black eye; however, a deputy determined the victim had been in fight two days earlier in Novato.

TOMALES – The high school reported that a woman at noon Nov. 6 had grabbed her daughter by the hair and arms to drag her out of school. A deputy took a report.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Forest Drive resident at 1:37 p.m. Nov. 6 reported that jewelry had been taken from her house while workers were installing a skylight. She said she wanted to file a report.

BOLINAS – When a Highway 1 resident received a suspicious package in the mail, firefighters responded.

November 8, 2001 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – West Marin School at noon last Thursday reported juveniles had vandalized the school with eggs and paintballs on Halloween night.

TOMALES – A deputy at 2:30 p.m. Saturday found a pager on Highway 1 and reported he would try to find its owner.

OLEMA – A merchant at 9:42 a.m. Sunday reported a man had stolen milk and peanuts and had fled before the merchant could stop him. At 10 a.m., the same 26-year-old man was found sleeping beside Highway 1 outside the Olema Cemetery. A deputy determined the man was "gravely disabled" and a "danger to himself." The man was transported to the crisis unit of Marin General Hospital for evaluation.

BOLINAS – While two men were arguing on Wharf Rd. at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, one struck the other in the head with a board. The first man was arrested on assault charges.

INVERNESS – Deputies at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 28 arrested a Perth Way resident for allegedly shooting a pellet gun into a cabin where two brothers were sleeping. The suspect had earlier told officers the two had "jumped" him; they, in turn, said he had brought the pellet gun to the cabin, which he owned. Having fired one of the brothers, who worked for him, he wanted them to leave, a deputy said. After the shooting, in which no injuries were reported, the brothers took the pellet gun away from the resident, they told deputies.

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 8:20 p.m. Monday notified deputies that she wanted to close her business for the night, but a man inside would not leave. Although he was not drinking and not violent, he had been there all day, she said. The man left before a deputy arrived.

MUIR BEACH – A Highway 1 resident at 10:27 a.m. Monday reported finding her mailbox open and a wadded-up paper towel left in the back with a rubber band around it. A deputy determined the bundle merely was earrings wrapped in a napkin.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy stopped a yellow Ford for allegedly speeding on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 1:46 p.m. Sunday. The case was handed over to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 7:24 a.m. Saturday reported there was a camper at the entrance to Brighton Beach and five campers at the end of Wharf Road. He said it looked as if a roadblock had been moved and that vehicles may have driven onto the beach. He told deputies tents could be seen on the beach. An officer who checked found "no one on the beach except surfers."

TOMALES – Deputies received a report at 7:47 a.m. Saturday that a vandal used a rock to break the window of a business trailer parked along Martinoni Road. The vandal also left feces at the door.

DILLON BEACH – A man at 11:37 a.m. Sunday reported he had found his wife extremely drunk at 10:45 the previous evening in sand dunes. Her pants were pulled down, and her shirt was pulled up, he said, making him wonder if she had been raped. However, deputies found no evidence of a scuffle, and the woman said she did not want any medical care.

OLEMA – A man at 1 a.m. Monday reported he had just seen three Middle Eastern men in an Acura on Highway 1. He added that he had seen the men three times the previous day. He added that the Acura had an American flag in its rear window. One man had a beard, but the others were "cleancut," he said.

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 1:40 p.m. Sunday complained that a motorcyclist had parked on the sidewalk in front of a doctor’s office and had gone into a delicatessen. The motorcyclist had a small dog inside his jacket, the merchant added. The motorcyclist was gone when a deputy arrived.

DILLON BEACH – A Park Avenue resident at 2:08 p.m. Sunday complained that her ex-boyfriend had entered her house late the previous night. She asked deputies what to do if it happens again.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 2:15 p.m. Sunday helped a motorist get a locksmith after the motorist locked his keys in the trunk of a Saab convertible parked on Highway 1. The convertible’s top was down, and the trunk release was not working, the officer reported.

BOLINAS – A woman on Wharf Road at 6 p.m. Sunday reported hearing a man and woman quarreling. There was considerable "screaming and crashing," she said.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 8 p.m. Sunday reported several people walking around a campground asking campers for butter and other miscellaneous items. After the people left, she said, campers would discover their coolers were missing. The woman, a campground employee, said one ice chest had been recovered.

LAGUNITAS – A La Cuesta Avenue resident last weekend reported her studio had been broken into.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 9:44 p.m. Saturday arrested a man wanted on a warrant for violating parole.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 11:04 p.m. Saturday reported hearing six gunshots in the vicinity of Lagunitas and Spring roads. She also said she could hear a female voice and a country music station. She later reported the radio had been turned off.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 12:15 a.m. Sunday complained there had been loud music coming from a main street bar for three hours. A deputy got a band to turn its music down and to close the bar’s outside doors.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 2:23 a.m. Sunday found people with a large bonfire on the beach. He told them the fire was illegal and made them put it out.

POINT REYES STATION – A Corte Madera man at 10:22 a.m. Saturday reported a blue kayak had been stolen off his vehicle, which was parked on B Street.

INVERNESS PARK – A couple at 11:38 a.m. Saturday reported two men were hunting with dogs n the bay side of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard on property next to theirs. A deputy told them, "Goose season started today" and that "duck season is from Oct. 14 to Jan. 21." The only restriction on hunting, deputies said, is that a hunter cannot shoot within 150 yards of an occupied dwelling.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man in the Sanchez Road area at 2:20 p.m. Saturday reported that two males in their early 20s were on a deck shooting at birds with a pellet gun. He said the two had been shooting at a tree with a rifle the previous week.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies received a report at 3:48 p.m. Saturday that a 39-year-old man wanted on a misdemeanor assault warrant was on Morelos Avenue.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 3:33 p.m. Saturday complained that a neighbor was gardening on her property and that she wanted him removed. A deputy noted there is a property-line dispute between the neighbors. The woman said she had been assaulted in the past.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman was driving up North Forest Drive after dark last weekend when the driver of a white pickup truck coming down the road yelled at her that "the next time" he was going to run her "off the road," she told deputies. She said she had followed the pickup truck and gotten its license number. A deputy contacted the truck driver and determined that no crime had occurred.

BOLINAS – A bar reported at 8:49 p.m. Friday that a drunk man, 23, was pushing a second man, who had also been drinking but was not drunk.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 9:42 p.m. Friday notified deputies that she had received a call from her 42-year-old daughter, who said she planned to take her own life Monday or Tuesday. The daughter said she would drive off a road at a high speed, the mother reported.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 10:21 a.m. Friday reported that juveniles had vandalized his property.

POINT REYES STATION – A package of white powder was found beside a store on the main street. County firefighters identified the substance.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 4:12 p.m. Friday asked a deputy if a neighbor could conduct target practice in his own backyard with a BB gun.

BOLINAS – A deputy on Wharf Road at 8 p.m. last Thursday arrested a man on warrants for failing to appear in Sonoma County and Santa Cruz courts. In both counties, he faces drunk-driving charges.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A woman with the help of a sheriff’s translator at 4 a.m. last Thursday reported that a man had just broken into a trailer at a ranch along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. She said the 40-year-old man, who lives on Point Reyes, was drunk.

BOLINAS – A woman at 11:25 a.m. last Thursday complained that there was trash and crushed jack-o-lanterns strewn the length of Brighton Avenue. She said her own Halloween decorations and pumpkins had been stolen.

OLEMA – A vehicle overturned on Highway 1 at 3:50 p.m. last Wednesday, blocking the northbound lane. The driver, who is 20, suffered a minor head injury and cuts, along with a "possible spinal problem," a deputy reported.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 5:11 p.m. Friday told deputies she had been the victim of battery in Samuel P. Taylor Park a week earlier. She said she now has information on the assailant and will file a report.

BOLINAS – A man at 7:29 p.m. last Thursday complained of kids in trees throwing eggs at cars below. He said they were on a hill at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Wharf Road. A deputy could not find the kids but did find some eggs on the hillside and broke them.

OLEMA – A merchant at 9:10 p.m. last Wednesday reported a man, 60, had hit a woman and that both were now trying to leave her business.

DILLON BEACH – A Kona Drive resident at 10:02 p.m. last Wednesday heard five or six gunshots, which she though were "fairly close." Whoever was shooting was gone when a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

November 1, 2001 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO – The county Department of Public Works dispatched a 10-yard dumptruck and a skip loader to remove large amounts of construction-material scraps that were strewn about the Bolinas-Fairfax Road. After cleaning up the illegal dumping, the county transported the trash to a landfill. Such illegal dumping has become commonplace on the coast ever since the West Marin Sanitary Landfill closed in 1998 and county supervisors failed to provide a local dropoff site for trash.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 9 p.m. Friday cited a woman on Mesa Road on charges of false registration for her vehicle. The officer also noted she was driving with a suspended license.

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 9:30 a.m. last Thursday reported a thief had stolen the base for a table.

INVERNESS – When a woman on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 7:23 p.m. Friday called deputies about heart pains, a helicopter was dispatched.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 10:40 p.m. Friday reported hearing four gunshots northwest of her house on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. She said the shots may have come from boys in the neighborhood. A deputy could not find anyone shooting.

FOREST – A Tamal Road resident at 10:08 p.m. Friday told deputies she believed a dog was attacking a wild animal near a creek. She said she has been having trouble with a pitbull in the area and believed that could be the dog involved. She later reported it was, indeed, the same dog. The Humane Society was unable to find either the dog or the wild animal.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 4:40 a.m. Saturday notified deputies of someone outside "dressed like a big gladiator [with a] big wooden sword, shield, and furry boots."

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sanchez Road resident at 10:42 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a drunk man, aged 39, had broken her window to steal money for alcohol. The woman added that she had previously told the man he could stay in her yard, but she had now changed her mind and wanted him removed. She said she would not press charges over the broken window.

NICASIO – Deputies at 2:08 a.m. Saturday were notified of a large illegal campfire at the reservoir. When the fire was still blazing at 3:25 a.m., deputies asked that county firefighters be notified. However, an officer later reported the fire had died down, and firefighters were called off before reaching the scene.

LAGUNITAS – A citizen at 9:21 p.m. last Wednesday walked into the Woodacre firehouse to report that an injured deer was lying on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard west of Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The Humane Society responded but could not find the injured animal.

BOLINAS – The Coast Guard Transmitting site on Mesa Road at 7:18 p.m. Oct. 23 reported receiving a package addressed to "combat squadron" with a return address that said "audio-visual company." Since mail is never received at the transmitter site, deputies were notified; they determined the package contained a magazine.

OLEMA – A Highway 1 resident at 11 p.m. Oct. 23 complained about a loud compressor being used by someone steam-cleaning floors. A deputy contacted the worker, who said he would move the compressor to another location. The resident told deputies he thought that should be okay.

BOLINAS – A woman at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday reported that two males were fighting with sticks on Wharf Road. She later said they were walking away from each other.

BOLINAS – A foster home at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday reported a boy, 14, had run away

POINT REYES STATION – A man called from a business to complain that an old car was blocking the doorway. Although there was a language barrier between deputies and the clerk, he managed to get his message through, and the car was tagged.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday arrested a man at Brighton Avenue and Wharf Road on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

KENT LAKE – A Marin Municipal Water District ranger at 11:03 a.m. Tuesday reported something suspicious was floating in the reservoir. A deputy determined it was an empty beer keg and removed it from the spillway.

OLEMA – Deputies assisted the Humane Society at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday when an injured bat was found along Highway 1.

WOODACRE – A woman at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday said her 16-year-old son had been warned his house would be vandalized on Halloween. Deputies discounted the warning but agreed to provide extra patrols.

OLEMA – A 14-year-old boy at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday showed up dirty and carrying "a really big knife," a merchant reported. The youth turned out to be a runaway from a school in Dogtown.

INVERNESS – A woman at 11:39 a.m. Monday complained that her 19-year-old son from Bolinas was in her house swearing at her.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 1:45 p.m. Monday complained that his ex-wife in violation of a court order took their nine-year-old daughter out of school to an unknown location

MARSHALL – A man at 3 p.m. Monday received mail containing a quarter teaspoon of white powder. The return address was Planned Parenthood in New York City, and Amerogram was written on the envelope. The envelope was placed in a plastic bag.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 10:21 p.m. Monday reported marijuana activity on Rosario Road.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident heard a female on Forest Drive crying, "I’m sorry! I’m sorry!" at 11:15 p.m. Monday. The resident then reported hearing a single gunshot. A deputy contacted the couple involved. Both denied anything amiss had occurred and that the "gunshot" was the sound of a car door being slammed.

BOLINAS – A man at 5 a.m. Monday reported that people camped in a lean-to behind the library were making a lot of noise.

BOLINAS – A woman at 8:48 a.m. Sunday told deputies that a man on medication was sexually assaulted by another man. A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 10:48 a.m. Sunday reported that a table appeared to have been moved during the night in an attempt to get onto the business’ roof. A deputy found no sign of an attempted entry.

POINT REYES STATION – An all-points broadcast notified deputies at 10:55 a.m. Sunday that approximately 100 Harley motorcycles were in town. A resident asked for extra patrols downtown, noting that motorcyclists in the Sunday Morning Ride "tend to drive fast."

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 6:08 p.m. Sunday reported a man and woman parked in front of the resident’s house were creating a verbal disturbance. The resident said the woman had locked the man out of a truck, and he was yelling. The resident described the man as wearing shorts and shoes.

LAGUNITAS – A 58-year-old man on West Cintura Avenue at 10:10 p.m. Sunday reported chest pains. Firefighters responded immediately, but the man died, and the coroner was called.

MARSHALL – A motorcyclist at 10:40 a.m. Saturday was taken to a hospital with a fractured wrist after being involved in a collision with three cars on Highway 1.

CHILENO VALLEY – A white Ferrari sportscar ran into a ditch on Chileno Valley Road at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Sonoma County Highway Patrol officers called for a tow truck.

STINSON BEACH – A man on Saturday afternoon reported that a second man had tried to commit suicide by staying in the ocean at Red Rock Beach for at least 20 minutes. The apparently suicidal man, who was in his 50s, was now trying to leave the beach, the first man said.

DILLON BEACH – A 13 year old suffered an elbow and head injury in a fall from a bicycle at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. The child, who remained alert, was transported by helicopter to Petaluma Valley Hospital.

STINSON BEACH – A parent at 9 p.m. Saturday called deputies to report that a son and the son’s girlfriend were creating a verbal disturbance while breaking up. A deputy noted there was "lots of screaming in the background [of the phone call]."

BOLINAS – A woman at 9:45 p.m. Saturday told deputies she was concerned that a 45-year-old man had moved into her brother’s house but is not on the lease. The landlord now wants both men to leave, she said. When the 45 year old said he wanted to take off his clothes in front of her, she left.

FOREST KNOLLS – A caller at 10:35 p.m. Saturday complained that a woman in her 40s had just broken pots at the caller’s residence and was now outside honking her vehicle’s horn.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman at 11:40 p.m. Saturday complained about three groups of juveniles (totaling about 15 youths) had gone up a hill behind her house apparently to party, for they were making lots of noise.

INVERNESS – A man at 2:55 a.m. Sunday reported he had just been "jumped" by two men who live on his property. He said he had gone to his cabin to see who was in it, "and they came out and jumped him," a deputy reported. The two men then fled in a sports utility vehicle, he said. One of the two later told deputies he actually lives in Olema and that the Inverness landlord had come to the cabin with a shotgun to make them leave. A deputy noted the man had been drinking.
