October 30, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – Deputies at 10:19 p.m. Monday received a call from a man on Wharf Road. A dispatcher had trouble understanding him and could only tell that someone had broken his window. A deputy determined the mishap was an accident.

BOLINAS – A man at 11:28 p.m. Monday called deputies from Wharf Road to say his car had been stolen. A bartender subsequently told officers that the man loaned his car to a friend and it had not been returned. Deputies found neither the man or his friend.

WOODACRE – The county fire chief at 9:09 a.m. Monday reported having learned that a man in a light-colored stationwagon had been trying to lure adolescents into his car on Friday. The chief said the middle-aged man had approached youths at a nearby park, asked them if they wanted to try out his car’s new child seat, and offered them money.

WOODACRE – A resident at 11:11 a.m. Monday reported his nine-year-old son had been suspiciously approached by a stranger Friday night.

CHILENO VALLEY – A man at 9:44 a.m. Monday reported a 1980s model Chevrolet had been "stripped and gutted," then abandoned only a foot off the pavement on a blind curve. A deputy tagged the vehicle for towing.

BOLINAS – A resident at 12:09 p.m. Monday complained that a large, gray pickup truck was "completely blocking" her driveway. The truck was gone by the time a deputy arrived.

NICASIO – A Los Piños resident at 1:20 p.m. Monday reported an explosion in the kitchen. Deputies notified firefighters.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 3:12 p.m. Monday received a complaint that a couple on Wharf Road were causing a disturbance with a loud quarrel.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 3:28 p.m. Monday received a complaint that a brown Ford Bronco with a blonde behind the wheel had been speeding up and down Wharf Road. She had now parked downtown, a caller said. A deputy could not find the sports utility vehicle.

MARSHALL – Deputies at 7:08 p.m. Sunday were asked to notify the Humane Society that a deer, which had been hit in traffic, was alive on the shoulder of Highway 1.

NICASIO – A farmer at 12:28 a.m. Monday complained that two young men driving an older Honda were at his water tank. When he contacted them, the farmer told officers, the two said they had a right to be there.

NICASIO – A Los Piños Spur resident at 9:19 p.m. Monday reported two men were standing beside a gray, older Honda, which was missing its front hood and had a broken windshield. The resident, who said it looked as if there had been a vehicle accident, reported telling the pair they were on a private road. The men then left the scene but might be hiding, the resident added.

NICASIO – A homeowner on Sunday morning told deputies four of her driveway-light fixtures, together worth $500, had been knocked down during the past week.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 merchant at 12:50 a.m. Monday told deputies a vagrant was sleeping in the doorway of his business, adding that he wanted the man moved along. A deputy gave the vagrant a ride into Point Reyes Station.

MARSHALL – A man at 11:01 a.m. Sunday told deputies a white Dodge pickup truck had been vandalized near Nick’s Cove during the night.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 merchant at 11:04 a.m. Sunday reported a vandal had smashed the window of a green Dodge pickup truck during the night.

MARSHALL – A man at 11:27 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that a white Subaru Outback had been broken into while it was parked along Highway 1 during the night. The man could not immediately say what all had been taken from the stationwagon.

MARSHALL – A woman at 2:15 p.m. Sunday reported her white Ford Ranger pickup truck had been burglarized while parked along Highway 1.

MARSHALL – A woman at 6:36 p.m. Sunday reported a burglar stole a computerized datebook, her vehicle’s registration, a flashlight, boat keys, and a garage-door opener from her Ford Ranger.

MARSHALL – A man at 8:58 a.m. Oct. 21 reported a thief had stolen his mountain bicycle.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 11:19 a.m. Sunday received a report that a woman with a sledgehammer was on a bulldozer parked beside Highway 1. A deputy determined the woman was merely a "tourist...posing for a photo."

BOLINAS – A man at 3:02 p.m. Sunday reported that illegally parked cars were preventing other vehicles from turning around at the beach end of Wharf Road. A deputy cited two vehicles.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 3:04 p.m. Sunday reported a man in his 20s was sleeping behind the school. A deputy found the man, admonished him, and released him.

BOLINAS – A Laurel Road resident at 3:06 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a neighbor had yelled over a fence that he was going to kill him unless the resident stopped making noise in his own yard.

LAGUNITAS – The Highway Patrol at 4:06 p.m. Sunday reported a vehicle had run off Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The CHP said the vehicle was unoccupied and that its keys had been removed.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 5:14 p.m. Sunday complained that two youths were shooting off bottle rockets. The youths were gone when a deputy arrived.

WOODACRE – A woman at 9:30 a.m. last Thursday reported an older sedan driven by a young blonde woman had just sideswiped her vehicle. The woman said the collision damaged the rear of her car.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 12:33 p.m. last Thursday received word that vandals had spray painted structures in the playground at the Dance Palace.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road merchant at 1:15 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that a lost purse containing drug paraphernalia but no identification had been turned in at the business. After deputies found heroin and methamphetamine in the purse, they waited for the purse’s owner to show up at the business to reclaim it. When he did, he was arrested.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 3:44 p.m. last Thursday told deputies he had lost his checkbook, which contained $50 in cash, downtown.

TOMALES – A woman at 3:44 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a man matching the description of the "Petaluma prowler" had been hanging around town for two days. The woman said she had earlier witnessed the man buy a soda and condom, a combination she found suspicious.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 6:47 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that when he came home that evening, he found a heavyset woman in the bushes. The woman left after telling him that the place where she lives is on fire, the resident said. No fire was seen in the area.

CHILENO VALLEY – Deputies at 11:57 p.m. last Wednesday received a report that a man was slumped over the wheel of his vehicle. An officer determined the man was merely napping because he was tired. The deputy checked the man’s identification and sent him on his way.

INVERNESS PARK – A woman at 7:12 a.m. last Wednesday reported hearing 37 shotgun blasts in the past half hour. A deputy determined duck hunters were doing the shooting.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 10:45 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies her husband had asked her to call them because two men were outside taking pictures of the couple’s property and refusing to leave.

BOLINAS – A woman at 3:12 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a man was illegally living in a van, which at the time was parked in a handicapped zone.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 5:13 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies he was concerned about cars constantly parked on a narrow curve. He said his neighbors have also complained about the parking.

OLEMA – A sheriff’s patrolcar at 7:39 p.m. Oct. 21 hit a deer on Highway 1. The collision broke off the patrolcar’s left fog light.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 7:46 p.m. Oct. 21 received a complaint that seven people had an illegal bonfire on the beach at Calle de la Sierra and Highway 1. After an officer arrived, the fire was put out and the people left.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies received word at 7:50 a.m. Oct. 21 that a person was having an allergic reaction to a bee sting: a swollen hand and a tingling head. Medics transported the victim by ambulance to a hospital .

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:47 a.m. Oct. 21 reported a woman was banging things, yelling profanities, and "throwing stuff over the fence." He asked that a deputy determine if she is sane. A deputy concluded she is.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 11:08 a.m. Oct. 21 reported her tenant downstairs was the victim of a break-in. Cash and other items were taken, she said.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 11:18 a.m. Oct. 21 told deputies he believed his ex-girlfriend was harassing him by placing ads on the Internet for "free furniture" and then listing his phone number. He said he wanted the ads on Craig’s List stopped. After deputies contacted the company, the ads were removed from the Craig’s List website.

NICASIO – A woman at 4:56 p.m. Oct. 21 reported finding two backpacks containing rollerblades near a portable toilet beside the reservoir. The backpacks were turned over to a deputy.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Ritch Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

 

October 23, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

TOCALOMA – Deputies and Highway Patrol officers at 7:23 p.m. Sunday responded to a rollover accident in which an elderly driver was temporarily trapped in his vehicle but not injured. The crash occurred at Platform Bridge Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. After the motorist was freed from his vehicle, a deputy reported the man was "walking and talking." He added [there was] "gas in the roadway, no complaint of pain, [and that he himself was] "taking the driver home."

LAGUNITAS – Deputies at 8:35 p.m. Oct. 14 received a report that one or two cars had run into a ditch along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A deputy and a Highway Patrol officer found nothing amiss.

LAGUNITAS – A Cintura Avenue resident at 10:12 p.m. Sunday complained he couldn’t get to sleep because his neighbors have an extremely bright light on the outside of their house, and it shines directly on the man’s bedroom window. He said he had tried to phone his neighbors but got no answer.

STINSON BEACH – A care-giver for an elderly man at 11:49 p.m. Sunday notified deputies she thought someone was outside her bedroom window, tapping on it. About 10 months ago, she told officers, the patient had a different care-giver, "who used to have friends visit him by tapping on the window."

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – The Highway Patrol at 1:40 a.m. Sunday notified Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies, who notified West Marin deputies, that a bicyclist had supposedly crashed near the countyline. No law enforcement agency could find anything amiss.

INVERNESS PARK – An innkeeper at 9:48 a.m. Sunday said that someone had been in her cellar and outbuildings, as well as under her horse shed, the previous night. Two guests in the inn had notified her, she said.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies at 10:23 a.m. Sunday alerted medics when a man, who was breathing via an oxygen tank, reported chest pains.

BOLINAS – The Highway Patrol at 10:41 a.m. Sunday told deputies it had received a report that a deer was stuck in mudflats not far from some portable toilets along Bolinas Lagoon. The animal was in distress and might be drowning, a caller had told the CHP. However, deputies and CHP officers found neither the deer nor the portable toilets.

TOMALES – Two people just before noon Sunday independently reported a deer had been hit in traffic on Highway 1 but was still alive. It was in a ditch with his head sticking up, they said. Deputies could not find it.

BOLINAS – A Park Avenue resident at 8:39 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that numerous cars were illegally parked in front of his residence and asked that a deputy deal with them.

BOLINAS – A Cliff Road resident at 9:30 a.m. Sunday told deputies several vehicles were parked in no-parking zones around the Little Mesa and asked that they be ticketed. A deputy cited four cars.

BOLINAS – A resident in the Marin Way-Terrace Avenue neighborhood notified deputies the beach "was packed" by 11:51 a.m. Sunday and that cars were parked illegally "all over the downtown." Another caller said illegal parking was a "major problem today." A deputy told the callers that officers were already citing illegally parked vehicles.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 3:36 p.m. Sunday were notified the Bolinas Fire Department had received "numerous complaints" about the illegal parking downtown. An officer acknowledged the problem and said officers had responded with "numerous citations."

BOLINAS – A woman on Wharf Road at 1:41 p.m. Sunday complained that a man with a walker had an open alcoholic-beverage container in front of the library. Deputies, who in recent weeks have received repeated complaints alleging the man was causing disturbances, contacted him. An officer determined the man had no open container but did have a bottle of beer in his knapsack. The deputy reported he "disposed of the beer without incident."

OLEMA – A man 2:56 p.m. Sunday summoned deputies and medics to the Vedanta Society after a woman had an equestrian accident. The man quoted the woman as saying she’d had the wind knocked out of her. He did not know if she had other injuries.

WOODACRE – A resident at 3:06 p.m. Sunday turned over to deputies a "bag of suspicious white powder" for them to analyze. An officer said the powder did not appear to be an illegal drug.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A man at 4:47 p.m. Sunday reported a vandal had broken into a storage shed at Union School during the night. He said he didn’t know what had been taken, but the shed had been torn apart and that "cleaning supplies were found all over the yard."

OLEMA – Deputies at 7:30 p.m. Saturday received a report that a deer had been hit in traffic but was still alive.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 6:57 p.m. Saturday received a complaint about loud, amplified music on the Mesa. A deputy determined "the party was not abnormally loud, but those in charge agreed to turn the music down. The Light also checked on the volume of the music and found that because of terrain, the music was louder two and three blocks away than immediately around the party. At 9:04 p.m., an angry Mesa Road resident complained the music was getting louder and said he wanted it stopped.

MARSHALL – A Millerton Point resident at 9:15 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that two of a neighboring ranch’s cows were in his garden.

POINT REYES STATION – A caller at 12:13 a.m. Sunday notified a sheriff’s dispatcher that a black cow was on Highway 1 in the darkness. The dispatcher asked if it was a bull or an actual cow, but the caller didn’t know. A deputy then determined it was a cow and was able to identify the owner by its ear tag.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road merchant at 11:29 a.m. Saturday asked a deputy how to handle a landlord-tenant dispute. The deputy gave him advice.

LAGUNITAS – A motorcyclist crashed on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Sunday, with deputies, medics, and Highway Patrol officers dispatched to the scene at 11:59 a.m. A deputy reported the rider was bleeding from his head and that no other vehicles were involved.

LAGUNITAS – A parttime resident at 12:38 p.m. Saturday told deputies that when she had visited her property the previous week, she saw a tent pitched on her land. She said she has not seen anyone around the tent but has been afraid to look inside. A deputy found the tent was unoccupied and appeared to have been abandoned. He gave the homeowner advice.

BOLINAS – A "walk-in" citizen at 2:42 p.m. Saturday told people at the firehouse that a water main may have broken. A North Marin Water District employee, who happened to be present, determined a residential waterline had broken and turned off the flow. A repair crew was then sent to the scene.

BOLINAS – A resident of the Duxbury Point neighborhood at 3:13 p.m. Saturday reported that two months ago a vandal had poisoned 100 shrubs on her property.

NICASIO – A woman called from the square at 3:37 p.m. Saturday to say her purse had been stolen the previous evening. By the time she notified her credit card companies at 1 a.m., someone had already made fraudulent charges on the cards, she quoted the companies as saying.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies on Saturday afternoon arrested a 23-year-old Fairfax man on vandalism charges; chased a 22-year-old Fairfax man through the woods near the Ink Wells (and caught him); and interviewed but released a 16-year-old companion from Fairfax. A deputy reported the misdemeanor arrest occurred after officers were notified of three people spray painting graffiti on the west end of Shafter Bridge. One of the trio, whom a deputy spotted spraying paint, was arrested. The young man that fled had been drinking; however, after giving him a sobriety test, officers did not charge him with being drunk in public. Although they were companions of the alleged vandal, neither the teenager nor the 22-year-old were actually "caught in the act" and were released at the scene.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded to Mesa Road at 7:46 p.m. Friday after receiving a report that a man could not get up. The man, who complained of back pain, had previously received back surgery. Medics transported him to Marin General Hospital.

MARSHALL – Firefighters at 8:42 p.m. Friday received word of a 15-foot by 15-foot grassfire that had been started by a falling powerline. The caller said three structures were threatened.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 8:58 p.m. Friday complained that eight people listening to loud music outdoors were intoxicated from drinking beer. She said they had slurred speech. A deputy, however, determined that the men and women had not been drinking but, nonetheless, dispersed the gathering.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 10:58 p.m. Friday told deputies a female stranger had just come to her door, reported that a man was saying he was about to jump off a cliff, and then left in a car.

POINT REYES STATION – Petaluma Police last Thursday escorted a woman to work in Point Reyes Station because they were concerned her ex-husband might be stalking her. When she got to work, they discovered her office had been vandalized during the night, Petaluma Police reported at 9:04 a.m. At 8:08 p.m., deputies were asked to look for the man, who was now wanted on charges of violating a court-issued restraining order stemming from a domestic-violence case. At 10:58 p.m. Friday, Petaluma Police received a report of a commercial burglary in progress. They subsequently notified West Marin deputies that the car of the suspect, the woman’s 41-year-old ex-husband, was parked on private property in Hicks Valley. Officers surmised the suspect was still on the property, but they could not find him. However, loot from an unrelated burglary was found in the trunk of his car, a deputy said.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road rancher on Friday morning reported that an employee, who had been stung by a bee, was having trouble breathing. The rancher said the feet and legs of the man, who is in his 40s, were itching and that he was dizzy.

POINT REYES STATION – A medical clinic at 1:01 p.m. Friday reported a 12 year old was "unresponsive," having drunk an entire bottle of vodka. A school employee had taken the boy to the clinic. Deputies were told a 14-year-old boy had brought vodka in a soda can on a field trip to the beach and that the 12 year old passed out after drinking 16 ounces of it.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 1:38 p.m. Friday received a report that a vandal had slashed a tire on a vehicle parked at Highway 1 and Second Street.

BOLINAS – Firefighters responded at 1:15 p.m. Friday when a youth fractured a wrist.

INVERNESS – A resident at 3:49 p.m. Friday complained that all week a thief had been stealing the daily newspaper from the resident’s Hawthornden Way home. He said he had checked with the newspaper, which assured him each day’s copy had been delivered.

WOODACRE – A resident at 4:52 p.m. Friday told deputies her daughter was out of control and had broken her bedroom window. The mother said the 16-year-old, who is already on probation, was upset because she couldn’t get parental permission to go out that night.

PLATFORM BRIDGE – A woman at 6:31 p.m. Friday said that a man on a bicycle had pulled across the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road in front of the car she and her mother were in and would not let them drive around him. She said the man, who "looked very strange," started talking to them about a woman’s stolen purse. He had a purse in his possession, she added.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 10:56 a.m. last Thursday reported that an intoxicated, 50-year-old man was only semi-conscious. She said he had a finger infection and had taken too many pain relievers. She said she did not know how long he had been only semi-conscious but that he was covered with filth. Initially the man was uncooperative but finally allowed medics to take him to a hospital, a deputy reported.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 12:49 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a burglar had sawed off a post holding her mailbox and had stolen both items.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 4:58 p.m. last Thursday said a new couple in the neighborhood were screaming profanities at each other and smashing things. The resident said she had not yet met them and did not know their names.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 2:13 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies a homeless woman in her 40s was in her room. The resident said she did not know how the second woman had gotten inside.

NICASIO – A Point Reyes-Petaluma Road resident at 12:32 p.m. last Wednesday asked a deputy how to handle a dispute over a phone-line easement. A deputy gave the man advice.

October 16, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 7:04 p.m. Monday told deputies her teenaged son had a knife and was threatening to commit suicide. She said he was depressed about his grades in school. Eventually his mother took the knife away from him.

NICASIO – A deputy at 8:55 p.m. Monday shot a deer to put it out of its misery after it had been injured in traffic on Nicasio Valley Road.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 9 p.m. Monday told deputies she could hear someone shooting off fireworks on the beach. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS – A resident at 8:55 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a woman with a camper shell on a pickup truck was sleeping overnight in the vehicle in the vicinity of Cherry Drive and Maple Road. The resident said the camper was returning to the spot day after day. A deputy could not find her. However, the resident at 2:21 a.m. Saturday again complained about the camper. This time a deputy found the woman’s white Toyota and moved her along.

BOLINAS – A ranchworker living along the Olema-Bolinas Road at 7:37 a.m. Friday reported $1,200 had been stolen from his bedroom.

TOCALOMA – A man, who had been mowing on a Platform Bridge Road ranch, found 20 small marijuana plants growing 20 yards off the road, he told deputies at 12:48 p.m. Friday.

BOLINAS – A woman complained about a 60-year-old man with a walker "screaming at people" on Wharf Road at 2:37 p.m. Friday. A deputy determined the man was not drunk but told him to quiet down.

NICASIO – A burglar stole a man’s wallet, as well as some paperwork, from his locked vehicle, the victim told deputies at 5:29 p.m. Friday. He said the burglary had occurred an hour earlier while his car was parked along Lucas Valley Road at Big Rock.

POINT REYES STATION – A man a 6:20 p.m. Friday notified deputies that $300 worth of stereo equipment, including CD and cassette players, were missing from the Dance Palace.

OLEMA – A woman at 4:24 a.m. Friday told deputies that groups of juveniles were in a pasture west of downtown "tormenting the cows." She told deputies the youths had a loudspeaker, which they were using to imitate cow sounds. In addition, the youths were spinning donuts with their vehicles in part of the pasture that is near Olema Creek. She added, "The cows sound distressed." A deputy, who at first could not find the youths, eventually found 10 cows on the front lawn of the nearby Point Reyes National Seashore headquarters. He and a rancher rounded them up.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 8:22 a.m. last Thursday gave deputies an old, rusty .22 rifle to be destroyed.

STINSON BEACH – A youth with a history of allergic reactions to bee stings was taken to a clinic after being stung in the left leg, staff told deputies at 11:06 a.m. last Thursday. Clinic staff said the leg was swelling, but the boy was not having trouble breathing.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 2:15 p.m. last Thursday told deputies she had lost her black, leather purse containing her driver’s license, Social Security card, and $500.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies and medics responded to the middle school at 2:33 p.m. last Thursday when a 12-year-old boy began losing and regaining consciousness while undergoing convulsions. A deputy reported the boy was temporarily unable to talk.

BOLINAS – A merchant on Wharf Road complained to deputies at 3:05 p.m. last Thursday that a former employee of his business had vandalized the cash register twice. At 3:46 p.m. Sunday, the merchant reported the ex-employee was back and apparently had hidden a gun at the business.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 4:43 p.m. Sunday received a report that a 41-year-old woman might have broken her leg when she slipped and fell.

NICASIO – Deputies at 7:48 p.m. Saturday received conflicting reports about a motorcycle that had run off Lucas Valley Road near Big Rock. One report said the biker plunged 30 feet off an embankment in a solo accident. A second report said the biker struck a vehicle head-on. The Highway Patrol eventually found the collision had actually occurred at Westgate Way, had been a head-on, and that the only damage had been to property.

OLEMA – A woman at 8:04 a.m. Sunday reported a deer was injured in traffic on Highway 1 near the cemetery. A deputy could not find the animal.

SAN GERONIMO– A resident at 10:39 p.m. Sunday told deputies that a loud party with teenagers drinking had been underway for an hour in the vicinity of San Geronimo Valley and Deer Camp drives. The resident said she feared the partygoers might start a wildfire.

POINT REYES STATION – A Cypress Road resident at 10:46 p.m. Saturday told deputies there had been a "very loud party on Mesa Road for two hours." A deputy determined the party was a wedding reception, and the host said he had sent letters to all his neighbors informing them in advance of the event.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 11:16 p.m. Sunday complained about a loud band that had been playing for two hours. She said she told the band to turn its bass down, and members said they would stop at 11 p.m. However, the band was still loud. A deputy determined a wedding reception was underway, and the father of the bride agreed to shut the band down.

SAN GERONIMO – Highway Patrol officers Sunday morning received a report of a "traffic hazard" in the intersection of Nicasio Valley and San Geronimo Valley roads. A deputy found a "huge amount of packing material at the side of the road." Since the trash was off the pavement and not an immediate hazard, the officer decided the Department of Public Works could wait until Monday to clean it up.

OLEMA – A firefighter at 1:03 a.m. Sunday reported black Angus bulls were loose on Bear Valley Road. Their owner arrived and with the firefighter’s help herded the bulls off the road. The owner later found a hole in the fence.

POINT REYES STATION – A townswoman at 8:57 p.m. Friday notified deputies that two cows were loose on Highway 1 north of town. The woman, who said she got the information from a Spanish-speaking man she didn’t fully understand, noted the cows did not belong to the ranch for which they were heading.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – Deputies at 9:30 p.m. Friday responded to a one-vehicle crash on the east side of Red Hill. An officer noted the motorist complained of back pain after the crash.

BOLINAS – An Alta Vista Avenue resident at 5:54 p.m. last Thursday told deputies he had sent $3,000 via Western Union to someone in Germany to buy a computer. The other person had listed the computer on eBay, the man said, but the seller neither sent it to him nor replied to his messages.

BOLINAS – Deputies and medics responded at 4:29 a.m. Friday after an elderly resident called the Highway Patrol to say she was on her floor and could not get up.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Tamal Road on Friday evening notified deputies that two horses without riders were running up Tamal Road.

BOLINAS – An Ocean Parkway resident at 11:22 p.m. last Wednesday told firefighters that there had previously been a fire in her house, and electrical lines were still arcing and popping. Firefighters determined the problem was limited to a small "power strip" and not related to the earlier fire.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 1:12 a.m. last Thursday reported a white cow was wandering down the middle of Highway 1. The cow left before a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – After Light staff found a woman’s purse on the sidewalk outside the newspaper office, they notified deputies at 4:14 p.m. last Wednesday. Officers told the woman who had lost the purse that it had been found.

INVERNESS – An Inverness Way resident at 4:33 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that someone had forged signatures and cashed checks from a business where she works.

CHILENO VALLEY – A man at 5:01 p.m. last Wednesday asked deputies for advice. He said the girlfriend of his 21-year-old son is threatening to make false accusations against the son to get the young man in trouble. The couple is breaking up, the father said. An officer gave him advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A medical clinic at 5:32 p.m. last Wednesday said a motorcyclist had been brought there following a crash. The motorcyclist had a scraped face but apparently no broken bones. He was flown to a hospital by helicopter.

INVERNESS – A woman called deputies from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 6:32 p.m. last Wednesday to report she had lost her purse while walking to Point Reyes Station.

OLEMA – A woman at 10:49 p.m. Oct. 7 told deputies a large pickup truck on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard was pulling two teens, who were riding skateboards.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 1:22 p.m. Oct. 7 cited a 33-year-old woman following a traffic stop and arrested her 32-year-old male companion. The reasons for the arrest and citation were not immediately available.

POINT REYES STATION – A bicyclist had to be taken to a hospital by helicopter shortly after noon Sunday when his wheels slid out from under him and he landed on his head. The bicyclist was southbound on Highway 1 just north of Point Reyes-Petaluma Road when he lost his balance on gravel at the end of a driveway, an officer said. The victim received extensive scrapes to his head, another officer reported.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Ritch Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

October 9, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

MUIR BEACH – A Seacape Drive resident, who had previously reported a burglary, called deputies a second time at 7:53 a.m. Monday to say he had now determined the burglar had taken more property than was initially noticed.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 10:37 a.m. Monday received a report that someone was trying to drive a flatbed pickup truck with bogus registration tabs from a Calle del Arroyo construction site. Deputies were told that 15 people were at the site near Highway 1 and that the driver was being detained. Nonetheless, the "driver took off into the woods," an officer later reported.

BOLINAS – A resident at 12:20 p.m. Monday told deputies a man was refusing to leave her home. She, however, refused to give his name, and an officer described her as "very uncooperative." She subsequently told a deputy that the man had left after an argument.

TOMALES – A high school administrator at 2:30 p.m. Monday notified deputies he was detaining a student who had allegedly stolen a CD player from a teacher’s desk.

POINT REYES STATION – A town resident and his wife went to the firehouse at 3:18 p.m. Monday and reported they’d had a quarrel. Although the quarrel had ended, deputies reported the wife had minor injuries, including cuts and bruises. The husband was arrested on charges of domestic violence.

WOODACRE – A merchant at 10:49 a.m. Sunday reported his business had been burglarized during the night and had previously suffered "several vandalisms," an officer noted. Deputies said they would provide extra patrols.

STINSON BEACH – A woman from the Marine Mammal Center at 4:03 p.m. Sunday reported youths were harassing seals on Seadrift Beach.

MARSHALL – A woman on Highway 1 at 8:48 p.m. Saturday reported hearing six gunshots.

WOODACRE – A firefighter at 9:49 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a deer had been injured on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and that a deputy was needed for traffic control. An officer could not find the deer.

STINSON BEACH – A resident in the vicinity of Highway 1 and Calle del Piños at 12:08 a.m. Friday complained that a group of youths had a bonfire on the beach, adding that they were also setting off fireworks.

INVERNESS – Firefighters at 2:52 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a vehicle in a parking lot was smoking but not on fire.

BOLINAS – A woman at 4:13 p.m. Saturday told deputies a boy had been "attacked" 10 days earlier and that his parents were refusing to let a doctor perform a checkup. A deputy spoke to the boy’s father, who agreed to take the youth to a doctor.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Mar resident at 9:33 p.m. Saturday reported a three-year-old boy was having trouble breathing and had become pale. He had recently had a cold, she said.

WOODACRE – A merchant last Thursday reported a drunk woman, who had been driving erratically, entered his business and then drove off.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded at 7:30 p.m. last Thursday when a 25-year old fell down a metal staircase at a Commodore Webster Drive building. The man was unconscious for 20 minutes and may have suffered head and shoulder injuries, an officer reported. The victim was transported to a hospital.

STINSON BEACH – A man on Highway 1 at 8:26 p.m. last Thursday reported a second man had just thrown a beer in his face and then left the bar.

POINT REYES STATION – A boy at 10:40 p.m. last Thursday told deputies he was home alone and had heard noises coming from his parents’ room, including a door being opened and slammed shut. His parents were not expected home yet, he said.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 10:44 a.m. last Thursday accused her 41-year-old ex-husband of breaking into her house and taking a trunk.

October 2, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 7:58 p.m. Monday were alerted that cows were out on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road near Highway 1. A deputy was unable to locate the cows. Later, at 2:03 a.m. Tuesday, a deputy found the cows and moved them back into a field.

CHILENO VALLEY – A caller at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday reported seeing two men who appeared to be stripping a car parked on Chileno Valley Road near Tomales-Petaluma Road. A deputy contacted the car’s owner and learned he had loaned the car to some people interested in buying it. During the test drive the car ran out of gas. Its drivers abandoned the car on the side of the road where it remained until the caller spotted men removing items from the car. The owner told deputies he did not want a report taken, only to have it towed to a junkyard.

TOMALES – A Highway 1 resident at 11:11 a.m. Sunday told deputies she heard shots fired the night before in the area of Tomales Town Hall, where she knew a party took place.

STINSON BEACH – A caller at 1:20 p.m. Sunday reported that two men dressed in "nice" clothes were excessively filming people on the beach. The caller said she was concerned because she has young children.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 12:54 a.m. Monday said a friend of hers living in Point Reyes Station was threatening to kill herself. The caller said her 33-year-old friend had been drinking and was crying all night. The woman "kept saying goodbye to me," the caller said. Deputies transported the woman to Marin General Hospital where she was put under a 72-hour watch.

STINSON BEACH – An Arenal Avenue resident at 8:25 p.m. Saturday complained that a band was playing loud music outside a nearby bar. When the manager of the bar was contacted she promised to move the band inside. The caller, meanwhile, pledged to investigate whether the bar was allowed to have bands play outside.

WOODACRE – A Maple Road resident at 8:47 p.m. Saturday said she thought someone had illegally entered her home while she was in it. The caller said she heard a door shut and her dog started growling. A deputy found nothing amiss.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 9:48 p.m. Saturday said a group of youths had lit a bonfire on the beach near Calle Del Arroyo and Calle Del Occidente. The caller said the youths were screaming. When a deputy arrived, the youths put out the fire and left without incident.

POINT REYES STATION – The fire department at 10:15 p.m. Saturday reported someone was drunk and staggering down Highway 1 north of Point Reyes Station. A deputy was unable to find the person.

BOLINAS – An Ivy Road resident at 12:00 a.m. Sunday alerted deputies that her 1-year-old daughter was screaming and having difficulty breathing. The woman said later her baby had vomitted and was now sleeping comfortably.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 1:46 a.m. Sunday reported that 20 youths were hanging out around a bonfire on Brighton Beach. A deputy had the youths put out the fire.

INVERNESS – A Silver Hills Road resident at 6:32 a.m. Saturday told deputies that she found two large marijuana plants growing on her property. A deputy took the plants to be destroyed.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 11:52 a.m. Saturday complained that a 60-year-old man was yelling profanities and told one person, "I don’t care, I have a .45 automatic [handgun]." The caller said the man had a walker and appeared to be living in a white van.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy at 12:19 p.m. Saturday removed the license plates of a 1993 Cadillac parked on Calle Del Mar. The deputy determined that the plates were registered to another car and placed illegally on the Cadillac.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 3:41 p.m. Saturday reported that his leather wallet was stolen from his car while it was parked in the area of Cypress Road and Highway 1.

BOLINAS – A Birch Road resident at 9:20 p.m. Saturday asked deputies for advice about a person in town. The caller also said her phone was ringing earlier and when she answered it, no one was on the line.

TOMALES –The manager of a hotel on Highway 1 at 10:55 a.m. Friday notified deputies that someone had stolen the pay phone located outside the hotel.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 5:20 p.m. Friday told deputies a group of men in front of the library were drunk and arguing loudly. One of the men in the spat told deputies the other man was picking on him. The two were sent in separate directions.

STINSON BEACH – A caller at 6:05 p.m. Friday reported that two fishermen off of Highway 1 had lit a fire on the beach. A deputy had the fire extinguished.

TOMALES – Deputies were notified Friday evening that a 56-year-old man fell back in his chair and passed out after drinking a few sips of wine.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 7:59 p.m. last Thursday reported a black cow with a white face was on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road near Highway 1. The deputy also noted several other cows were not confined and were making their way towards the road. At 1:40 a.m. Friday, the deputy reported the owner of the cows had been identified and the animals were back in their enclosure.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 10:57 p.m. last Thursday reported hearing a woman scream, "get out!" The caller said she did not know where the woman's voice was coming from, but said she could also hear a man's voice and things being broken. The caller then said the shouting had ended, and she could hear a woman crying.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA RD. – A Hick's Valley resident at 11:07 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that her father was supposed to have arrived several hours before but had not shown up. At 2:26 p.m. Friday, the woman called again to say her father was home.

BOLINAS – A Fern Road resident at 1:18 a.m. Friday told deputies she heard two people running through her property. She said the noises caused a dog to bark nearby, and her cat looked spooked.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA RD. – Firefighters and medics at 12:09 p.m. last Thursday responded when a 70-year-old man was reported to be unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

SAN GERONIMO – A Sylvestris Drive property owner at 12:49 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that someone had cut down around eight trees on her 3.5 acre property without her permission. The woman said she was just starting to build a home on the property.

POINT REYES STATION – A caller at 1:45 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a 40-year-old man was drunk and foaming at the mouth in the area of 4th Street and Highway 1. A deputy learned the man already had a warrant against him for being drunk in public, and took the man to jail.

MARSHALL – A Marshall-Petaluma Road resident at 2:23 p.m. last Thursday asked deputies about a renter on the property. The caller said the renter keeps a generator running 24 hours a day.

MARSHALL – The manager of a boatyard at 3:23 p.m. last Thursday reported that a man drove his bus onto the yard, unloaded it, and used a PG&E line for electricity.The man with the bus said he had spoken with the manager's son, but the manager told deputies he didn't want him there.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 1:16 a.m. last Wednesday arrested a man on Highway 1 for being drunk in public.

POINT REYES STATION – A caller at 1:41 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies that there was an Oldsmobile Cutlass stuck in a ditch. Deputies could not locate the car’s driver.

WOODACRE – A Rock Ridge Road resident at 8:57 a.m. last Wednesday asked deputies about an issue dealing with her boyfriend’s ex-wife.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:37 a.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that she saw a young man that appeared to be entering a property illegally. The caller said the man was in the area of Mesa Road and Olema-Bolinas Road when he looked around, then went through a gate and into a cottage on the property. Deputies determined a contractor doing work on the property did not fit the description.

MARSHALL – Deputies received a report at 9:57 a.m. last Wednesday that several cars had been broken into the night before along Highway 1. The roof of one car had been cut. Another had its window smashed.

WOODACRE – A Rock Ridge Road resident at 2:26 p.m. last Wednesday asked deputies about her brother and an issue surrounding a water bill at the property.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies at 3:35 p.m. last Wednesday responded when a driver ran his car off of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near Balboa Avenue. No one was injured.

POINT REYES STATION – A caller at 4:14 p.m. last Wednesday said he saw a man in a Gold Lexus off of Highway 1 pointing a radar gun at traffic.

FOREST KNOLLS – An Aztec Avenue resident at 4:53 p.m. last Wednesday asked deputies about a common fence that she shares with a neighbor.

DOGTOWN – Deputies at 12:01 p.m. Sept. 23 were notified that two youths at a reform school had been involved in separate assaults on Sept. 22. One youth assaulted a staff member, while the other attacked a classmate.

WOODACRE – A Rock Ridge Road resident at 12:23 p.m. Sept. 23 asked deputies about her daughter, who lives in another home on the property. The daughter was refusing to give up the keys to her home, the mother said. The mother said she was upset about a large water bill.

LAGUNITAS – A deputy at 10:04 p.m. Sept. 23 reported that an abandoned car parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard was "a pile of junk" and had it towed away.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA RD. – An employee of a business at 4:10 p.m. Sept. 23 reported a fistfight between three employees. The caller said of the two men and one woman involved in the fracas, the women appeared to be the aggressor. A man also hit another man on a bicycle, the caller said.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 4:16 p.m. Sept. 23 asked deputies about an incident she was involved in with a surfer the day before. A deputy gave her advice.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 6:16 p.m. Sept. 23 told deputies his bus didn't take him all the way to Forest Knolls, but instead turned around in Lagunitas. The man also said he was the victim of molestation rituals that took place 20 times a day.

OLEMA – Deputies were called in at 10:30 p.m. Sept 23 to shoot a deer that was badly injured after being struck by a car.

BOLINAS – A caller at 10:40 p.m. Sept. 23 complained that

construction workers were working loudly at a Wharf Road bar, which had closed temporarily for repairs. When a deputy arrived, the workers had finished for the night.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Road resident at 10:46 p.m. Sept. 23 complained that someone had been using the chairs in her yard. The chairs appeared to have been moved by someone, she said.
