September 27, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES – Deputies at 11:19 p.m. Saturday received a report that someone had dumped steel drums of contaminated soil and several buckets of used motor oil into a drainage ditch along Middle Road..

INVERNESS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 4:05 a.m. Saturday notified deputies he had a prowler in his garage.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A deputy at 5:49 a.m. last Thursday shot a deer that had been injured in traffic at Bear Valley and Limantour roads.

TOMALES – A man at 5:37 p.m. last Thursday told deputies another man had molested him 30 years ago when the alleged victim was seven.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies and medics responded at 7:03 a.m. last Thursday when a five-month-old baby began vomiting and became lethargic. His mother said the baby’s eyes were rolling and his skin was pale. The baby was transported to Marin General Hospital.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 7:14 p.m. Monday told deputies a car had run off the road and overturned in front of her house. The resident did not know how many people had been in the car, but one person had been ejected through the windshield. The person was taken by helicopter to a hospital.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy at 11:51 p.m. Monday warned two campers three miles south of town that there had been mountain lion sightings in the area. The deputy himself, however, was unable to find any mountain lions.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 10:25 a.m. Monday received a report that a boy’s bicycle had been stolen on Wharf Road. The bicycle carried stickers that said, "Fear the Mullet," the caller noted.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded to Los Reyes Drive at 2:12 a.m. Monday when a woman, who was using medication, had trouble swallowing.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 9:41 a.m. Monday asked for advice regarding troubles with a neighbor and PG&E putting up a power pole three feet from his property line. A deputy referred him to the county Building Department and PG&E.

TOMALES – Deputies and the county fire marshal at 3:29 a.m. last Thursday looked for signs of arson when hay caught fire in a barn on the Tomales-Petaluma Road. At 11:36 a.m., the landowner asked a deputy for assistance in evicting a tenant who, she believed, may have set the fire. A deputy gave her landlord-tenant-dispute advice. At 6:14 p.m., she said the tenant, who she believed started the fire, was trespassing on her land. At 10:28 a.m. Monday, she accused relatives of the tenant, who had worked for her, of trespassing in a bunkhouse. The family said they would move out later in the day.

TOMALES – A merchant at 10:30 a.m. Monday requested extra patrols downtown.

RED HILL – Deputies and firefighters at 4:11 p.m. Monday responded when a wildland fire broke out along the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and began moving toward a barn with horses in it. The small fire was quickly extinguished.

NICASIO – A business at 7:28 p.m. Sunday reported two people had climbed a gate to get onto private property along Lucas Valley Road.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 7:41 p.m. Sunday reported that a 16-foot, aluminum boat had washed ashore without anybody aboard. The boat was named the Molly Ann, and the Coast Guard launched a search to see if anyone had fallen overboard.

WOODACRE – Deputies at 8:37 p.m. Sunday received a report of possible elder abuse.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 12:44 a.m. Sunday reported a Toyota had been driving up and down Sherwood Avenue. The caller said a neighbor had chased the SUV once, but it was now back. A deputy could not find it.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 8:58 a.m. Sunday asked for help in escorting four carloads of people from a campground.

BOLINAS – A resident at 10:44 a.m. Sunday complained a man had been living in a green Nissan truck parked on Brighton Avenue for three days. A deputy contacted the man, who said he would move on that day.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 11:29 a.m. Sunday reported her SUV had been vandalized during the night as had commercial property, where phone lines were torn off the building.

BOLINAS – An Elm Road resident at 7:42 p.m. Friday reported her neighbor had tried to run over her cat with his vehicle. She said he had been drinking and that there had been an argument.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 8:29 p.m. Friday complained about a fire on the beach. A deputy contacted five people, who were cooperative and said they would put out their fire.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 12:36 a.m. Saturday notified deputies she could hear males shouting. She then said one of them was punching cars in front of her house.

INVERNESS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 4:04 a.m. Friday noticed her garage door was open and a light was on inside. She then reported the light had gone off.

BOLINAS – An Olema-Bolinas Road resident at 9:07 p.m. Friday reported that a man, whom a court has ordered to leave her alone, had left 38 messages on her answering machine that day in violation of the court order. She said the man had also contacted her son and made "inappropriate" comments to him.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Onda resident at 5:28 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that youths were skateboarding on the roof of an empty house. She said she was concerned for their safety. They youths were gone by the time an officer arrived.

INVERNESS – An innkeeper at 6:19 p.m. Friday reported that a man who had passed a bad check to pay for a room may be wanted on other charges.

STINSON BEACH – A Sacramento woman, who has a weekend home in town, told deputies at 8:05 p.m. last Thursday that she had left her purse containing her driver’s license and credit cards in a Highway 1 restaurant. When she went back for the purse, she said, it was gone. A deputy found it for her.

WOODACRE – A woman at 8:30 a.m. last Thursday told deputies that during the night a vandal had taken the left headlight from her car.

POINT REYES STATION – A tenant found a small amount of marijuana at the Old Creamery Building and turned it over to an officer at 10:07 a.m. last Thursday.

DILLON BEACH – A man on Beach Avenue at 11:21 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a thief had taken two fishing rods and reels together worth $1,100 from his boat.

STINSON BEACH – A Panoramic Highway resident at 4:41 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies she had just received pornographic email involving a small child.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 12:33 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that a man in his 40s and wearing a black hat was acting "crazy," talking to himself, "posing," and throwing sticks around. She said the man had a green truck loaded with two bicycles, but the truck’s hood was up. A deputy checked on the man, decided he was okay, and moved him along.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 12:35 p.m. last Wednesday said he had been threatened an hour earlier by a man who, he believes, had gotten out of jail that day.

FOREST KNOLLS – An anonymous caller at 1:14 p.m. last Wednesday complained that several vehicles were parked on the basketball court of the town park. A deputy found one car on the court and asked the owner to move it.

LAGUNITAS – A 10-year-old boy on Cintura Avenue at 5:59 p.m. last Wednesday called deputies to say he was home alone and that someone was trying to break in. He said a male with a purple jacket had opened the front gate. The boy said he then heard a door open and footsteps inside the home.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman on Castro Street at 7:04 p.m. Sept. 17 reported a 15-year-old boy was shooting arrows at a pink-paper target near a bus stop. A deputy could not find the boy with the bow and arrows but did find a papier-mâché-monster target.

TOMALES – A caller at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 17 told deputies a large pine tree had fallen across the pavement at Highway 1 and Tomales-Petaluma Road. The county Department of Public Works removed it.

BOLINAS – A driver at 12:37 a.m. Sept. 17 notified deputies she had struck a deer on Highway 1 at the Bolinas Wye. A deputy shot the animal to put it out of its misery.

POINT REYES STATION – A citizen at 3:12 p.m. Sept. 17 reported losing a pager.

MARSHALL – A man at 5:55 p.m. Sept. 17 complained that a 33-year-old woman wearing a green tank top and cutoff shorts had hit him and was refusing to leave his house. She eventually left and was found at Miller Park, where she was arrested on charges of drunk driving. A records check also found she was wanted on a warrant for violating probation.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 6:06 p.m. Sept. 17 told deputies she had parked her car across Highway 1 from the state’s Steep Ravine cabins when a vandal broke a window of the vehicle with a rock.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

September 19, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS PARK – An innkeeper at 2:13 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a lodger had paid for his room with a worthless check.

STINSON BEACH – Restaurant staff at 8:04 p.m. Monday reported that four males were trying to break into the back of the business after going out the front. When confronted, the males, who had been drinking, said they had two steaks and were merely looking for someone to cook them, restaurant staff reported. The four then hot-wired a blue Honda on Arenal Avenue and drove off, staff said, but the car was stopped by the Highway Patrol. The driver was arrested on charges of drunk driving, and the other three were arrested on charges of being drunk in public.

WOODACRE – A tenant called deputies at 7:51 p.m. Sunday to say that he was housesitting his building for his landlord and that his landlord’s ex-wife, with the help of a friend, was moving back into the building. The tenant said the woman in her 40s was trespassing because his landlord did not want her there. At 4:21 p.m. Monday, the ex-wife complained that she had been locked out of her home and said she suspected the tenant did it. At 5:27 p.m., the tenant called deputies to say the ex-wife had broken a window to get into the building, adding that she had arrived in a silver-colored Toyota minivan. At 9:33 p.m., the landlord called deputies to complain about his ex-wife breaking into his house. The man said a court had issued a restraining order against her and that he has the deed to the house. While a deputy stood by, his ex-wife moved out.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK – A passerby on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard stopped at the campground at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday to report a tree was on fire.

FOUR CORNERS – The county Public Works Department at 8:42 a.m. Monday reported that a traffic accident had done significant damage to a guardrail.

BOLINAS BEACH – Deputies at 10:08 a.m. Monday received a complaint that some people had installed a "makeshift hot tub" in the beach and were using propane tanks from someone’s house to warm it. A deputy told the people the tub was illegal and a risk to others since a child could drown in it. The people removed the hot tub while a deputy stood by.

SAN GERONIMO – County medics responded at 11:24 a.m. Monday when an 84-year-old woman experienced pain in an arm and shortness of breath. Officers were told she had a rapid heart beat and was dizzy. The woman suffered a heart attack one month ago.

BOLINAS – An anonymous caller at 12:49 p.m. Monday complained that people were using an excavator and skip loader to dump debris into the ocean along Ocean Parkway. A deputy determined there was no merit to the complaint. In actuality, he reported, residents along the road were – with county permission – maintaining a berm that prevents erosion.

TOMALES – A member of the Coast Guard at Two Rock was jogging when he spotted eight small pot plants growing in an isolated area. He notified Coast Guard police who notified deputies. A deputy at 1:48 p.m. Monday confiscated the plants in order to destroy them.

WOODACRE – Deputies and medics responded at 3:26 p.m. Monday when a youth fainted and developed an irregular heartbeat. The youth, however, refused to be transported to Marin General Hospital, and deputies said they would contact his parents.

WOODACRE – Electrical problems caused a house on Madrone Avenue to fill with smoke at 4:40 p.m. Monday. County firefighters said there was no actual fire.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies and medics responded at 6:06 p.m. Monday when officers received word that a 96-year-old woman had been unconscious for two minutes and was barely breathing. She has a history of internal bleeding, officers were told.

BOLINAS – The Highway Patrol at 12:44 a.m. Monday received a call from a woman driver who said she had picked up a woman hitchhiking and that the second woman said she had been beaten by her boyfriend. The second woman was taken to the Bolinas firehouse.

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident at 9:32 a.m. Sunday notified officers she had been awakened by a woman yelling, "He’s hurting me!" A minute later, a neighbor called deputies to say a 56-year-old man had ripped hair out of her head.

WOODACRE – A man at 10:48 a.m. Sunday told deputies he was a medical-marijuana patient and that a thief had stolen his pot plants. Deputies took a petty theft report.

INVERNESS – A 75-year-old woman at 10:50 a.m. Sunday told officers she had fallen the previous day and was now suffering severe pain in a knee.

NICASIO – A man at 11:27 p.m. Sunday asked that an Open Space District ranger check on mountain bikers at Big Rock.

BOLINAS – A merchant on Sunday afternoon notified deputies that he had laid off some employees last week, and they hadn’t removed their tools. He said he planned to store the tools somewhere off his premises.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 5:10 p.m. Sunday warned youths riding two go-carts and two mini-bikes that they cannot ride them on public roads. The youths dispersed.

BOLINAS – A woman at 7:34 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a large limb of a tree had fallen near the Bolinas Wye, blocking both lanes of the Olema-Bolinas Road.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 9:12 p.m. Saturday received a report of two lights after dark at West Marin School, and kids riding bicycles on ramps at the school. A deputy found school lights on and two youths riding around with headlights on their bicycles.

OLEMA – A Highway 1 resident at 10:05 p.m. Saturday reported a neighbor had been having "a loud party for many hours." The caller said he would "just like it to quiet down a bit." A deputy called the host.

WOODACRE – A vehicle lost its left rear wheel at Railroad Avenue and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 10:34 p.m. Saturday, but the driver managed to get it off the roadway. A tow truck was called.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies and medics responded at 9:53 a.m. Saturday when a woman on Marine View Drive reported a 14-year-old girl had fallen while running on sand dunes, causing a very painful hip.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 10:19 a.m. Saturday complained about youths setting off bottle rockets.

NICASIO – A man at 10:56 a.m. Saturday told deputies that people in a white Jeep at Indian and Laurel Canyon roads might be hunting illegally. He said he had heard 20 shots. A second resident also reported hearing the shooting.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 12:04 p.m. Saturday reported a blue Ford van had been driving very close to a group of bicyclists in the area of San Geronimo Valley Drive and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The woman said the driver had been honking and making obscene gestures. A deputy could not find the van.

INVERNESS – A six-year-old boy fell at 3:10 p.m. Saturday while jumping from a swing along Inverness Way, and deputies were told he might have broken a wrist.

POINT REYES STATION – A six year old prevented a traffic accident at 4:04 p.m. Saturday when the driver of a car, in which the youngster was riding, suffered a seizure. Although the 60-year-old driver had no history of seizures, she went into one while driving on Sixth Street and passed out for two minutes. Seeing what was happening, her six-year-old passenger grabbed the wheel of their car and steered it to safety. Deputies and medics responded and later reported the woman was conscious and breathing better.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 4:22 p.m. Saturday received word that an 80-year-old resident of Calle del Ribera was dizzy, vomiting, and weak on his right side. Officers were told the man has a history of strokes.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 4:50 p.m. Saturday reported a green Mazda had run off a bluff along Highway 1 just north of Red Rock nude beach. The vehicle was resting on its roof, and the man did not know if anyone was inside.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies and medics responded at 9:41 p.m. Friday when an 84-year-old woman suffered heart problems, of which she has a history.

BOLINAS – A Birch Road resident at 11:18 p.m. Friday complained about a loud party in the neighborhood. A deputy contacted the 17-year-old host and told him to start shutting down the party.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 12:53 a.m. Saturday reported that a white Mercedes, which was driving up and down the road, kept stopping in front of her house and dumping trash. She said the driver might be drunk. The car was gone when a deputy arrived.

NICASIO – A man called deputies from Forest Knolls at 1:49 a.m. Saturday to report a red Mustang had run off the pavement at Lucas Valley and Nicasio Valley roads. Deputies referred the mishap to the Highway Patrol.

LAGUNITAS – A deputy at 8:33 p.m. last Thursday arrested a man on charges of being high in public. The officer came upon the man parked beside Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Samuel P. Taylor State Park. His SUV’s engine was running, and "large amounts" of marijuana smoke were coming from the vehicle, the deputy reported. When the deputy asked the man where he was, the man said he was on his way to Mount Tamalpais, another deputy noted. An officer found two bags of marijuana weighing less than one ounce in the man’s pocket.

POINT REYES STATION – A hunter who hiked from Tomasini Canyon Road into the back country found what he thought were 15 to 20 pot plants growing. Deputies at 5:08 p.m. Friday took a four-wheel-drive vehicle into the remote area and found there were, in fact, 1,200 marijuana plants under cultivation. Officers cut the plants down and buried them but declined to say where. Deputies said the landowner is not a suspect.

CHILENO VALLEY – Deputies responded at 9:26 p.m. last Thursday when a winery worker discovered the remains of a marijuana farm. The oval-shaped farm was 50 feet by 200 feet, deputies said. Although all the plants had been harvested before officers arrived, deputies found plumbing to irrigate about 40 plants.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 11:13 a.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that a woman driving a recreational vehicle had taken out a tree in front of the resident’s property. The resident said she wasn’t sure the other woman knew about the accident but told deputies where the RV was parked.

MARSHALL – A motorist cut his hand at 7:42 p.m. Sept. 10 when his van ran off the road and into a ditch, hitting a tree. The Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

BOLINAS – The Highway Patrol at 8:07 p.m. Sept. 10 reported that two white males in their 20s were harassing a Latino man on Wharf Road. A deputy could not find the pair.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 9:50 p.m. Sept. 10 complained about a loud generator on Rosario Road. The person with the generator told deputies it would be turned off in 10 minutes.

WOODACRE – A woman at 3:25 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies her boyfriend was harassing her and that she wanted him to leave. She said the last time she called officers, he scratched himself and told deputies she did it. She then told deputies her boyfriend, who had been drinking, had just left.

TOMALES – Tomales medics responded when a vehicle ran off Church St. at 5:37 a.m. Sept. 10., and the driver complained of back and neck pain. The Highway Patrol handled the traffic report.

MARSHALL – A woman at 9:54 a.m. Sept. 10 complained to deputies that a man was using a wheelbarrow to carry loads of trash across Highway 1 and dump it on a beach of Tomales Bay.

September 12, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS PARK – A Fox Lane resident at 9:02 a.m. Sunday reported a vandal had smashed the left rear window of his vehicle during the night but had taken nothing from it.

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 10 a.m. Sunday notified deputies she had found a wallet with its contents scattered in front of her house. Deputies traced the wallet to a 36-year-old man.

INVERNESS PARK – A Portola Avenue resident at 11:10 a.m. Sunday reported a vandal had smashed a window of her vehicle during the night but had taken nothing from it.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 1:38 p.m. Sunday reported that during the night a vandal had punctured two tires on his car parked at Fourth and A streets.

FOREST KNOLLS – A frightened man at 1:27 a.m. Monday notified deputies he could hear loud noises coming from his deck. When he came home about 10:30 p.m., he said, he had noticed that things were "askew" although the house had been secure when he left. He said the noise sounded like a tapping.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies at 7:26 a.m. Monday received a report that a 71-year-old man on Marine View Drive had fallen in a bathroom, lost consciousness and now had very shallow breathing. Medics from the Tomales firehouse responded.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Ribera resident at 9:04 a.m. Monday complained about a car with its keys and "baby stuff" inside parked in the area since Sunday night. A Highway Patrol officer determined that over the weekend, the woman had someone move the car from in front of her house.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 11:03 a.m. Monday gave school staff forms for reporting vandalism to four vehicles.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 1:19 p.m. Monday reported that someone has made numerous unauthorized charges against his checking account. Deputies reported the fraud.

WOODACRE – A resident at 3:39 p.m. Monday accused his ex-wife and her attorney of an extortion scheme aimed at him.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 6:14 p.m. Monday reported his 16-year-old son had been inappropriately touched by a merchant "over some time." He said the boy had just told him about times when he was molested.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 7:21 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that his car was hit by two paintballs when he drove past the postoffice the previous night. He requested extra patrols in the area.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:28 a.m. Sunday reported her burgundy-colored 1990 Honda had been stolen during the night. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

INVERNESS – A Camino del Mar resident at 9:33 a.m. Sunday complained about parked vehicles blocking his driveway and the entrance to Shell Beach. He asked that they be cited, and a deputy ticketed two vehicles on charges of illegal parking.

POINT REYES STATION – Restaurant staff at 12:25 p.m. Sunday reported a man locked inside a bathroom was "making a lot of noise" but "not responding" to them. Staff said they were trying to open the door. A firefighter later reported the man had suffered a moderate medical problem. Firefighters transported him by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 9:28 a.m. Sept. 2 complained about a "guy running a generator, and it’s not allowed." A deputy also quoted the resident as saying the generator runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He also told officers the Planning Division has previously dealt with people in the home with the generator. All was quiet when a deputy went to the scene. However, an Aztec Avenue resident at 12:45 p.m. Sunday complained about noise from the generator. A deputy talked to one of the people with the generator and was told they were without a PG&E hookup and were aware of the county noise ordinance.

NICASIO – Deputies received a report at 2:22 p.m. Sunday that a bicyclist had collapsed with unknown injuries at Nicasio Valley Road and Old Rancheria Road. The bicyclist may have been suffering from heat exhaustion, officers were told, and many other bicyclists were standing by at the scene.

MUIR BEACH – An Ahab Drive resident at 3:56 p.m. Sunday reported that while on a hike two hours earlier, she had been on a bluff when she saw what she believed was either a human corpse or a seal in the water. She said the location was a two-hour hike from her home. Deputies referred the matter to Park Service Police.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident at 4:26 p.m. Sunday complained about nude sunbathers on the beach nextdoor. The resident said the sunbathers were refusing to cover up. A deputy advised them about the county’s public-nudity ordinance.

LAGUNITAS – A deputy at 8:03 p.m. Saturday went to the home of a youth accused of racing his car on public streets the night before. However, the officer reported, the "subject bailed out the backdoor when I arrived." The boy’s mother eventually reached her son by phone. The officer said the youth would be cited for reckless driving, evading police, and resisting arrest.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident at 11:10 p.m. Saturday complained about a bonfire on the beach with numerous people around it making noise. Town firefighters put out the bonfire, and the partygoers agreed to stay inside.

BOLINAS – A resident at 11:35 p.m. Saturday reported a vehicle had been parked on Brighton Avenue with its motor running for more than an hour, and the occupant, who was slumped over the steering wheel, was completely unresponsive.

DILLON BEACH – A Beach Avenue resident at 10:28 a.m. Saturday requested extra patrols in the neighborhood, saying that approximately 15 teenagers had been drinking alcohol, driving, and smoking marijuana there the previous night.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 11:01 a.m. Saturday received a complaint that people from two vehicles were camping on private property along San Geronimo Valley Drive. A deputy found an adult couple parked off the road to enjoy the warm day. There was "no merit" to the camping report, he said.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 12:14 p.m. Saturday walked into the sheriff’s substation to report vandalism to his surfboard. He said he suspects a 35-year-old woman in Stinson Beach is responsible for the damage.

STINSON BEACH – A restaurant at 12:48 p.m. Saturday reported that three beer kegs had been stolen the previous night.

STINSON BEACH – An anonymous caller at 4:24 p.m. Saturday complained about a "very loud stereo blasting out" from a residence on Panoramic Highway and said the disturbance had been going on all day.

NICASIO – A car turned in front of a motorcycle, which hit it broadside, sending the rider flying over the top, deputies learned at 6:18 p.m. Saturday. The biker suffered fractured ribs, a fractured pelvis, collapsed lungs, and head injuries. Deputies were cautioned that people who have just received certain head injuries can become "combative." A helicopter airlifted the victim to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 9:09 p.m. Friday received an anonymous complaint about loud skateboarders in the area of the town tennis courts and the Episcopal Church. A deputy could not find them.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 2:15 a.m. found an unoccupied red Chevrolet Blazer in a ditch along the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. The driver later told the officer that he had swerved to avoid a deer, and his vehicle rolled into the ditch.

WOODACRE – Deputies and medics were summoned at 7:06 p.m. last Thursday when a 50-year-old resident of Railroad Avenue suffered a sharp pain in her chest, accompanied by trouble breathing. An officer noted that the woman has a history of back surgery.

FOREST KNOLLS – A caller notified deputies at 8:18 p.m. last Thursday that a Tamal Road resident with a history of grand mal seizures had just suffered her second seizure in a week. The caller said the woman was now coming out of the seizure and was sitting up but could not yet talk. The caller said no alcohol or drugs were involved and that the woman had been taking her anti-seizure medicine.

WOODACRE – A woman at 10:59 p.m. last Thursday complained that an ex-boyfriend from 11 years ago is continually bothering her and following her. She said he lives in Corte Madera.

WOODACRE – Firefighters at 8:49 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that someone "with a dislocated hip had walked into the firehouse."

TOMALES – A Dillon Beach Road resident called deputies at 10:10 a.m. last Thursday to find out what the fine is for being drunk in public. An officer, who noted the woman "seems out of sorts and disoriented," reported that she "also stated she wants to know, ‘Who is thinking of me?’" The officer described the woman as "very confused," but when a deputy checked on her, he determined she was neither drunk nor crazy.

SAN GERONIMO – A nurse at 2:13 p.m. last Thursday reported that an 83-year-old man may have had a heart attack. The man had a very low pulse now, she said.

DOGTOWN – A school administrator at 4:44 p.m. last Thursday reported that there had been repeated thefts from her vehicle during the past three months, both in Inverness and Bolinas. The latest property stolen from her vehicle was a machete, she said and blamed the theft on a Napa boy who is on probation.

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 5:35 p.m. last Thursday reported a tree limb was hanging over powerlines along Cypress Road. Deputies notified PG&E, and the limb was removed.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Road resident at 5:50 p.m. last Thursday called deputies to say that a 55-year-old man, whom she named, was breaking her door down. She next told officers he had broken the door down, that he had broken out its glass. At this point, "the phone just disconnected," a deputy noted. "The phone went dead."

MUIR BEACH – A Golden Gate Transit bus driver, who is black, called deputies from Pacific Avenue at 6:44 p.m. to report an unwanted passenger had just gotten on his bus. Deputies quoted the driver as saying the passenger was "making racial slurs toward him, and the subject is refusing to get off the bus."

LAGUNITAS – A Lagunitas Road resident at 7:01 p.m. last Wednesday reported a fence had fallen over, covering her driveway, and that someone was on his way to pick up the fence. Because of the problem, she would temporarily have no choice but to park on the street, she wanted officers to know.

BOLINAS – A Dogwood Road resident at 6:27 p.m. Sept. 3 reported that her son had found a man in their house against whom she has a court-issued restraining order. The man was "masturbating to porn on the satellite TV," she told deputies. At 9:19 p.m. last Wednesday, she reported receiving four phone calls in a day from the same man, again despite the restraining order.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 2:17 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a burglary might be underway at a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard business. A blue panel-truck was backed up to the business’ rear door, the man said, and there might be someone inside the building. A window was open, he said, and there was broken glass around. Deputies who responded also notified the owner of the business.

HICKS VALLEY – Two vehicles collided at Hicks Valley Road and the Marshall-Petaluma Road at 9:50 a.m. last Wednesday.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 10:02 a.m. last Wednesday stopped a blue Honda on Wharf Road and subsequently cited the motorist for driving despite having a suspended license.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident at 12:27 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that his wife had stolen a handgun 45 minutes earlier and said she was going to shoot him. While the man was on the phone with deputies, his wife called him on his cell phone and threatened him, an officer reported. The wife was told that the Sheriff’s Office had been notified of the situation.

FOREST KNOLLS – A downtown resident at 11:52 p.m.Sept. 2 complained about a loud vehicle’s screeching tires. A deputy could not find the vehicle. However, at 2:11 p.m. last Wednesday, one of her neighbors complained to deputies that the woman had threatened his wife, who was "very upset." At 3:14 p.m., the wife called to say the neighbor was screaming at her from her own residence. The wife said the neighbor "threatened to beat [her] up if she called police," a deputy quoted her as saying. The wife also told the officer the problem had been going on all day and has become a continual problem. The wife later called again, saying the neighbor was still yelling at her. She asked if a deputy was going to show up.

STINSON BEACH – Park Service Police at 4:23 p.m. last Wednesday said an 11-year-old boy had disappeared after having an argument with his mother. He told her he was going to walk home to Sonoma, police said. She asked deputies to be on the lookout for him.

OLEMA – An empty cement mixer dropped parts on Highway 1 three miles south of town at 2:01 p.m. Sept. 3. Traffic was blocked in both directions after a pressurized cylinder fell off in the middle of the roadway and the cement mixer spilled five gallons of hydraulic fluid, which Caltrans had to clean up with absorbent.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies and medics were summoned to a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard home when a woman had an allergic reaction to soybeans. Although she got a rash on her face and chest, she did not have trouble breathing.

FOREST KNOLLS – An anonymous caller at 11:22 p.m. Sept. 2 called deputies from Guadalupe Place to complain that "adults and juveniles are loitering in the [town] park and possibly smoking marijuana." She asked that deputies patrol the park more.

FOREST KNOLLS – An anonymous caller at 11:47 p.m. Sept. 2 complained about loud music coming from a house under construction along Resaca Avenue. The caller said the noise is a continual problem.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. September 5, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – An Olema resident at 1:03 p.m. Saturday reported that a man aged 75 to 80 was going in and out of consciousness in a car parked on the main street. Paramedics responded.

BOLINAS – A 19-year-old male at 1:46 p.m. Saturday reported that another man had punched him in the face, breaking his nose. He said his assailant, who had come looking for him, believed he had been talking with the assailant’s wife. The victim was transported to Marin General Hospital. The alleged assailant had already left in a blue pickup truck.

DILLON BEACH – A six-year-old girl tripped and fell into a fire pit in a campground at 1:58 p.m. Saturday. The girl, who suffered second degree burns to her legs, was transported by helicopter to the UC Davis Medical Center.

MARSHALL – A girl riding a bicycle on the Marshall-Petaluma Road five miles east of Highway 1 was knocked unconscious at 2:41 p.m. Saturday when she ran into a post.

STINSON BEACH – A ranger at 3:44 p.m. Saturday reunited a seven-year-old girl with her parents after she had become separated from an uncle. Although the girl was Spanish-speaking, she knew enough English to answer the ranger’s questions about her and her mother.

BOLINAS –A woman at 12:46 p.m. Saturday asked that a deputy escort her from the library. She said some people had harassed her earlier and that she didn’t know where they were. A deputy gave her an escort and advice.

FALLON – A resident at 9:48 p.m. Saturday reported a red pickup truck with a camper shell had been cruising the Marsh Road-Valley Ford-Franklin School Road area all day. She said the truck’s occupants might be poachers or otherwise up to no good. Two other trucks had been cruising with the first one for awhile, but they had now left, she said. The pickup was gone when a deputy arrived.

BIG ROCK – Six occupants of a sedan suffered cuts and scrapes at 10:20 p.m. Saturday when it ran off Lucas Valley Road and plunged down a 40-foot cliff east of Big Rock. The car came to rest on its roof with its engine still running, and the six occupants were able to get out on their own. Deputies assisted the Highway Patrol with traffic control.

DILLON BEACH – A 70-year-old man with a history of heart problems suffered a possible heart attack on Marine View Drive at 10:22 p.m. Saturday. Deputies assisted fire department medics.

INVERNESS – A 68-years-old guest in a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard inn complained of back and neck pains at 10:51 p.m. Saturday. The man has a "history of pain in the neck," a deputy reported. When an officer checked on the man, the victim said he had "neck pain only," the deputy noted.

SAN GERONIMO – A neighbor at 10:54 p.m. Saturday reported that a vehicle had just driven up to an unoccupied house and that there may be a burglary in progress. Deputies found a Fairfax man at the Nicasio Valley Road home, which he had apparently entered through a window. The man was jailed on charges of entering a dwelling without authorization.

BOLINAS – An organizer of a Labor Day Weekend celebration at the community center notified deputies at 11:27 a.m. Sunday that a group of people were creating a disturbance outside the building. Deputies arrested a woman on charges of being drunk in public.

INVERNESS – A resident at 12:38 p.m. Sunday complained about speeding vehicles in the Seahaven neighborhood. She said the Shell Beach parking lot was full and that people had parked vehicles everywhere. A deputy found no parking violations but agreed to give the area extra patrols.

MUIR BEACH – A man at 1:33 p.m. Sunday reported a green Mazda 626 was 70 yards down a cliff. The upside-down vehicle was below Highway 1 between Slide Ranch and the Muir Beach overlook, the man said. The Highway Patrol handled the matter.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy and Highway Patrol officer at 2:44 p.m. Sunday responded to a hit-run accident on Highway 1. The suspect vehicle was a pickup truck, officers were told.

NICASIO – A woman at 3:08 p.m. Sunday reported that three hours earlier she had tried to remove belongings from a barn where she previously boarded her horse. However, she said, the owner asked her to leave, then went up to her truck and punched it, doing no damage. She asked to speak with a deputy about the incident.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 3:39 p.m. Sunday reported that eight vehicles were parked in the middle of Calle del Arroyo and that emergency vehicles would not be able to get through. A deputy and a Highway Patrol officer ticketed the illegally parked vehicles.

OLEMA – A citizen at 7:54 a.m. Monday went into a restaurant and reported there was a woman outside acting irrationally. A deputy contacted the woman and determined there had been "a small disturbance over a cup of coffee. The problem was abated."

LAGUNITAS – A 75-year-old man at 10:21 a.m. Monday complained of difficulty breathing. The man, who has had a heart bypass, has a history of dizziness, deputies were told.

BOLINAS – A woman at 10:25 a.m. last Thursday reported a male had assaulted her 14-year-old son. A deputy, however, determined there had been "no threats or physical contact." Rather, he said, the woman had threatened the male that she would harm him if she drove into him.

BOLINAS – A woman at 11:13 a.m. Monday complained of four boys skateboarding in the street at Crescent and Brighton avenues. The four were not wearing helmets, she added. A deputy gave her advice.

BOLINAS – Deputies assisted firefighters when a small fire broke out in an area described as between Highway 1 and Horseshoe Hill Road. Bolinas volunteers quickly doused the blaze.

INVERNESS – A woman at 5:19 p.m. Monday reported that a man was in the process of moving 30 to 60 pot plants in a sports utility vehicle. A deputy who went to the man’s residence on the Inverness Mesa found no one home, and the man’s neighbors said they had seen nothing.

INVERNESS – A neighbor at 8:43 a.m. Aug. 27 reported an 82-year-old resident of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard had a high fever and was very disoriented. The neighbor said the woman’s daughter had belatedly just received a message that her mother was in a high fever for five days.

POINT REYES STATION – A restaurant at 12:31 p.m. Aug. 27 reported that a 62-year-old man had ordered 72 oysters and was refusing to pay for them. After a deputy arrived, the man said he would return the next day to pay the rest of his bill. He said he had forgotten his wallet and did not intend to defraud anyone. The restaurant, in turn, agreed not to press charges.

DILLON BEACH – A man at 5:26 p.m. Monday reported losing a purse from his truck. He said the purse contained a cell phone, identification, and credit cards.

WHITE HOUSE POOL – A motorist at 6:20 p.m. Monday reported a burglar had smashed a passenger-side window of his Chevy Blazer while it parked in the White House Pool parking lot. Stolen was a radar detector that had been on the dashboard.

BOLINAS – A resident at 7:28 p.m. Sunday complained that people were building a fire in the "swamps" below Cedar and Dogwood roads. She said she had told them to stop. A deputy determined it was just a matter of "neighbors having a barbecue."

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 9:52 p.m. Sunday received a complaint of fireworks creating a disturbance in the Calle del Arroyo-Calle de Resaca area. A deputy contacted those responsible and advised them that fireworks are prohibited under county law.

TOMALES – An innkeeper called deputies at 12:12 p.m. Sunday to complain about people outside a bar drinking and being loud. She also said the bar’s music was "blaring." Because of the noise, she said, her customers were upset and asking for refunds. A deputy contacted the bar, which asked its patrons to come back inside.

POINT REYES STATION – A man on Los Reyes Drive at 10:26 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that someone had pounded on the front door at the same time he saw someone running through the backyard. Two other people also staying in the house saw nothing. A deputy noted that the movement in the backyard could have been an animal, but that would not explain the pounding on the door.

BOLINAS – A merchant at 1:24 a.m. reported being harassed in a bar by another man, 51; he noted that a court has ordered the other man to stay away from him. A deputy arrested the second man on charges of violating a court order. Last week, a Bolinas resident accused the second man of harassing her by calling her collect all night, and the week earlier, Postal Service staff in Olema complained about his causing trouble in the postoffice.

POINT REYES STATION – A bartender at 8:34 p.m. Monday notified deputies that a 45-year-old woman, whom she had 86’d from the bar, wanted to fight. The bartender then reported the woman had just driven off toward her Inverness Park home. She added that the woman’s driver’s license may have been suspended or revoked because of previous drunk driving. Deputies relayed the information to the Highway Patrol, who arrested the woman on drunk-driving charges.

OLEMA – Deputies received a report at 8:26 p.m. Friday that a 45-year-old man had taken a bottle of wine from a store and gone into a restaurant.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 8:49 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a large moving van was stuck on Panoramic Highway, blocking more than half the roadway.

TOMALES – A woman at 12:50 a.m. Saturday told deputies that a black cow was in the middle of the intersection of Dillon Beach and Middle roads. A deputy aided a Highway Patrol officer in rounding up the cow and later reported, "Cow back in field."

STINSON BEACH –A Calle del Mar resident at 7:49 a.m. Friday reported that a witness had seen a woman from his neighborhood scratch his car with a key. A deputy took a vandalism report.

SAN GERONIMO – A contractor at 9:20 a.m. Friday reported that a nighttime burglar at his job site had stolen a temporary power box, a temporary cord, three 100-foot extension cords, 200 feet of air hose, and four converter adapters.

PIERCE POINT ROAD – A man at 9:01 p.m. last Thursday heard a noise outside which, he said, did not come from either animals or the neighbors. The noise then stopped, he said. Ten minutes later, the man called deputies again to say he had just heard a vehicle driving toward his gate. A deputy then reported, it was "probably me. I just left and didn’t see any other vehicle." Officers tried to phone the man back but could not reach him.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A van overturned on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard just north of the entrance to Johnson Oyster Company at 11:09 a.m. last Thursday. The vehicle came to rest on its side, and deputies were told that a woman inside was bleeding from her head. Also in the overturned van was a child under two years old. The child was unhurt but crying.

INVERNESS – A woman at 11:22 a.m. last Thursday asked a deputy for advice regarding a used car she had purchased. She said she believes the odometer has been turned back.

BOLINAS – A detective in the Pasadena Police Department at 11:57 a.m. last Thursday notified West Marin deputies that he had been receiving packages from an emotionally disturbed resident and asked that they have her call him.

DOGTOWN – A youth at 2:36 p.m. last Thursday asked to speak to a deputy in order to confess to a series of thefts. The youth, who had run away, said he was back now and had been stealing such things as cell phones, CDs, and money from cars. He is emotionally okay now, he said, and he would like to admit his crimes.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 8:25 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that a man had entered her business and, in speaking to her employees, had made threats against her. A deputy arrested the man on charges of making terrorist threats, and an emergency protective order was filed in court against him.

OLEMA – Firefighters at 12:17 a.m. last Thursday relayed a second-hand report that 20 horses were loose on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at Olema Hill. A deputy determined the horses were from a nearby ranch but could not raise the rancher. The deputy radioed his dispatcher that he was out of his patrol car with six horses and that the Highway Patrol was trying to get a pen in order to round up the rest.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 4:51 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that someone had just knocked on her door and that the did "not know who would be coming to the house at this hour." A deputy was unable to find anyone outside the house.

INVERNESS – A citizen at 8:08 a.m. last Wednesday notified deputies there was an injured owl at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Vision Road. A Park Service ranger took the owl to the Bear Valley Visitor Center, where it was picked up by the Humane Society.

INVERNESS – A woman at 10:24 a.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that an investigator from San Francisco had just called to say he was en route to arrest her on charges of credit-card fraud. She said she had called her attorney, who told her to call deputies here.

OLEMA – A deputy at 9:06 p.m. Aug. 27 arrested on a warrant a passenger from a vehicle that ran off the pavement at Highway 1 and Bear Valley Road.

POINT REYES STATION – A roadside fire at 11:17 p.m. Aug. 27 burned a small patch of grass along Highway 1 near the Giacomini Ranch.
