August 26, 2004 Sheriff's Calls
MUIR BEACH A Starbuck Drive resident at 1:17 a.m. Sunday reported a "beeping" coming from outside her house, adding she "cant figure it out." A deputy determined, "Her smoke alarm was outside beeping away in a trash bag."
BOLINAS A resident at 7:12 p.m. Saturday complained about a loud party all day long in the area of Elm and Grove roads. A deputy contacted another resident who promised to "keep it down."
STINSON BEACH A Calle de la Ribera resident at 8:21 p.m. Saturday notified deputies there were two illegal fires on the beach. When a deputy checked, he found four fires, ordered the people at the fires to extinguish them, and told the people that county law prohibited their fires on the beach.
INVERNESS A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 10:30 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that for more than an hour a man had been sitting in a parked vehicle with an idling engine. A deputy found a man sleeping in a Ford and advised him to move along.
POINT REYES STATION A resident at 5:42 p.m. Saturday complained about a "loud band" at the Red Barn. A deputy talked with a group in the building, and they agreed to turn the music down. However, at 7:22 p.m., a man called on the sheriffs emergency line and demanded, "Get the noise stopped at the Red Barn." A deputy subsequently reported he had contacted those responsible for the noise, and "they have turned down the music for now." However, around 11 p.m. a "crotchety person" complained "it was crazy out there," a deputy reported. The caller asked "why dont we do something" about the music at the Red Barn but then hung up, a deputy noted. An officer checked the Red Barn again and reported that a wedding reception was over and that "everyone is dispersing."
TOMALES A Highway 1 resident at 11:41 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that someone had just opened a screen door to her house and that she had seen a flashlight in her backyard.
OLEMA A resident at 11:57 p.m. Saturday complained about a loud party. He said it was an ongoing problem. A deputy contacted the people making noise, and they "said they would turn down the music."
POINT REYES STATION A resident at 12:37 a.m. Sunday complained about a loud car racing up and down the levee road. At 12:54 a.m., a second resident complained about the car, which she too described as racing up and down the road. The vehicle was gone when a deputy arrived on the scene.
CHILENO VALLEY Deputies at 7:23 a.m. Saturday received a report that two outhouses were in the northbound lane of Wilson Hill Road two miles south of Chileno Valley Road. The outhouses were described as a "traffic hazard."
WOODACRE A resident at 2:13 p.m. Saturday complained that a boy was practicing motorcycle jumps in a vacant lot off Central Avenue, noting that she was irritated by the noise. The motorcyclist was gone when a deputy arrived on the scene.
TOMALES A woman at 3:30 p.m. Saturday complained that she was downtown when the "wife of her ex-lover...grabbed [her] by the neck and arms" a deputy reported. She said the assault left cuts and bruises on her left forearm.
BOLINAS A resident at 10:25 p.m. Friday complained about noise coming from a parking lot off Ocean Parkway. A deputy "contacted three people and advised them to keep the noise down. They agreed to move along."
SAN GERONIMO A resident at 10:51 p.m. Friday reported noise, possibly caused by vandals, coming from the school. A deputy found a group of youths skateboarding on the school steps. He told them they were trespassing, and they agreed to move along.
SAN GERONIMO A resident at 11:40 p.m. Friday complained about someone screaming in the area of Nicasio Valley Road and San Geronimo Valley Drive. She said she could hear a cars motor stop for awhile and people talking low. Then the motor would start again, and people would resume screaming. She said this happens often. A deputy could not find anyone screaming.
INVERNESS A resident at 12:07 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that when he went outside on his deck, a man shone a flashlight on him and "began growling." He finally told the resident he was "going to f-ck with his mind," a deputy reported.
BOLINAS A Brighton Avenue resident at 1:25 a.m. Saturday complained about yelling from the beach, adding that those making noise might have an illegal fire. A deputy found only "a small group playing music, and they agreed to leave."
SAN GERONIMO A resident at 8:52 p.m. last Thursday reported a burglar had stolen a laptop computer, $3,000 in cash, a checkbook, and credit-card receipts from her house. She said an upstairs door handle was broken, a window was open, and its screen had been removed. She called back at 9:32 a.m. Friday to say she believed she had interrupted the burglary. Deputies asked her to talk with Sheriffs Department investigators who then took fingerprints at her house. At 2:49 p.m., she called deputies a third time to report her boyfriend knows who the suspects are and "may go over to confront them."
POINT REYES STATION A woman at 12:16 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a 52-year-old homeless man was in the library talking to himself and bursting into laughter. She said he was being disruptive.
FOREST KNOLLS A man at 12:43 p.m. Friday asked deputies to document the injuries he suffered when he was battered by his daughter. An officer took photographs.
BOLINAS A woman at 5:58 p.m. Friday reported a burglar had stolen $2,000 worth of jewelry.
WOODACRE Firefighters at 6:46 p.m. Friday reported a 10-year-old girl while playing football had been hit in the head with the football. Because she recently suffered a concussion, medics as a precautionary measure transported her to a hospital by ambulance.
BOLINAS A woman at 12:13 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies she had been told that a white GMC pickup truck, which had been stolen from her, was now parked in her neighborhood. A deputy determined the trucks ignition had been damaged and then released the vehicle to her.
LAGUNITAS A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 11:37 p.m. last Wednesday reported a loud fight nearby and said such fighting was "an ongoing problem." A deputy determined the fight was only verbal and not physical but abated it anyway.
POINT REYES STATION The Light at 3:35 a.m. last Thursday reported pranksters had moved a Caltrans sign onto Highway 1, blocking the northbound lane between the gas station and the banks parking lot. Orange traffic cones had been placed across the southbound lane so that it too was blocked. A deputy removed the barricade.
STINSON BEACH A San Francisco resident at 10 p.m. Aug. 16 called deputies to say his car had been burglarized while parked along Highway 1 just south of downtown. Stolen were a cell phone and a blue backpack containing clothes.
WOODACRE A Sylvan Way resident at 11:18 p.m. Aug. 16 reported two men had just unloaded a golf cart from a white pickup truck and then sped away. The cart belongs to the San Geronimo Valley Golf Course.
WOODACRE Medics transported a three-year-old girl to Marin General Hospital at 3:10 a.m. Aug. 17 when she began hallucinating because of a high fever.
August 19, 2004 Sheriff's Calls
SAN GERONIMO Medics responded to the clubhouse of the golf course at 3:34 p.m. Saturday when a man reported an 18-year-old woman had been injured in a golf-cart accident. Along with pain in her abdomen, she suffered bruises to her arm and hip, he said.
WOODACRE Parents of a 14-year-old boy last Wednesday reported he "got pepper in his eye." The Railroad Avenue residents said they "were trying to flush it out." It turned out that the youth had "tried to eat a pepper that was way too hot" and that he had gotten some of the jalapeño pepper in an eye.
TOMALES The manager of a bar at 6:18 p.m. Saturday reported three men were involved in a "very, very loud" fight. She said none of the three appeared to be armed or injured, but "theyre way out of control." After she called deputies a second time at 10:33 p.m., one man was transported to a hospital. At the hospital, an officer arrested him on charges of public drunkenness, cited him, and released him.
LAGUNITAS A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 6:48 p.m. Saturday told deputies someone has been siphoning gasoline from her car and had punched a hole in her gas line. She reported who she suspects is to blame, and a deputy gave her advice.
WOODACRE A resident in the Carson Road-Madrone Avenue neighborhood at 8:35 p.m. Saturday reported hearing 10 to 12 gunshots fired and people screaming. She said it sounded like a large-caliber gun. Deputies also received a call from a man on Crescent Drive who said he had heard seven gunshots.
POINT REYES STATION A woman at 8:58 p.m. Saturday complained there had been loud drumming in a church for almost an hour. She said there were several drummers preparing for a church performance, but they were too loud for the area. A deputy checked with the drummers and was told they were done for the night.
DILLON BEACH The manager of a campground shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday complained about fireworks being set off in the campground. A deputy could not find the people responsible for the illegal fireworks but did see one go off in the dunes.
SAN GERONIMO Deputies at 9:57 p.m. Saturday received a report of a traffic accident with "a lot of debris in the roadway." The Highway Patrol handled the mishap.
BOLINAS A North Brighton Avenue woman at 9:52 p.m. Saturday told deputies there was a campfire on the beach. An officer "advised the party" that under county law the fire was illegal. The fire was extinguished.
BOLINAS A Brighton Avenue resident at 10:40 p.m. Saturday complained about a bonfire on the beach. She said there were 15 people gathered around it. A deputy advised a group of youths their campfire was illegal, and they extinguished it.
BOLINAS WYE Deputies at 9:59 p.m. Friday received a report of a traffic accident. The Highway Patrol responded.
LAGUNITAS A resident at 11:44 p.m. Friday told deputies that she needed an officer to escort her while she transported her son to his father in Bolinas. She claimed the father is abusive and warned that she might hurt him. A deputy transported the boy to his father.
INVERNESS A 64-year-old woman at approximately 8:30 a.m. Friday told deputies her right arm was tingling, she felt dizzy, and had a pain behind a shoulder blade. Medics responded.
LAGUNITAS Deputies at 8:57 a.m. Friday received a report that a woman suffering from delusions was talking about killing herself or at least hurting herself.
BOLINAS A resident at 10:11 a.m. Friday reported a theft of jewelry and money. She estimated the loss at $1,500.
POINT REYES STATION A member of the preschool staff at 3:16 p.m. Friday told deputies that several teenagers were on the roof of the Dance Palace. She asked that an officer check if the youths were under adult supervision. When an officer arrived on the scene, none of the youths were on the roof, but they were under adult supervision.
NICASIO The owner of horse stables at 4:30 p.m. Friday told deputies she had received a call from an employee who yelled that he had stopped taking his medication and no longer wanted to take care of her horses. She quoted him as saying, "Im leaving now. You are going to regret this."
PLATFORM BRIDGE Deputies at 8:38 p.m. last Thursday received a report that a car had overturned on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and had come to rest on its roof. Witnesses told officers the occupants had crawled out and "got a ride into town." Deputies then received a call that the occupants of the car had been dropped off at Rancho Nicasio and that one possibly had chest injuries. A woman was transported to Marin General Hospital. Officers said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
MUIR BEACH A woman called deputies from Lafayette at 9:53 p.m. last Thursday to report her purse had been stolen by two males wearing "kangaroo berets." Because her keys, as well as a checkbook, credit cards, and a cell phone, had been stolen, she asked that deputies keep an eye on her Muir Beach home until morning.
FOREST KNOLLS A woman at 11 p.m. last Thursday complained about a group of people yelling. They were gone when a deputy arrived.
POINT REYES STATION Firefighters at 1:02 p.m. last Wednesday handed over to deputies a checkbook that someone had found and turned in at the firehouse.
TOMALES A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 2:50 p.m. last Thursday reported someone had stolen her identification cards. Deputies took a fraud report.
TOMALES A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 8:44 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies she had found a wallet with a mans identification in it.
POINT REYES STATION A man at 8:50 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a bartender had taken away his keys because of his drinking. He said she was a friend and he just wanted to walk home, but could he get his keys back. Deputies reported the man rode a bicycle home, and the bartender held onto the keys.
DOGTOWN A woman at 9:27 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that a second woman was beside Highway 1 attempting to flag down drivers. She also said the second woman "appeared to be pulling something up a bank."
POINT REYES STATION A main street merchant at 8:57 a.m. last Wednesday reported that someone was sleeping in a parking lot beside a vehicle. A deputy moved the person along.
POINT REYES STATION The new commander of the sheriffs West Marin substation, Lt. Scott Anderson, has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriffs Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substations phone number is now 446-4418.
August 12, 2004 Sheriff's Calls
POINT REYES STATION A resident at 7:31 p.m. Tuesday reported that a man and woman in the neighborhood had been "yelling, crying, throwing things at each other...all afternoon, off and on." She said this was not the first time.
STINSON BEACH A resident at Calle de la Sierra and Highway 1 at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday complained about a large bonfire on the beach. A deputy checked and reported finding "parents and children making smores. They will be done soon."
POINT REYES STATION Deputies at 9:47 p.m. Tuesday received a report that a 20-year-old man had fallen and hit his head and that he was bleeding from the back of his head. County medics responded.
STINSON BEACH An Arenal Avenue resident at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday reported hearing four gunshots. She told officers she believed someone was shooting a shotgun.
STINSON BEACH A Calle de la Sierra resident at 12:05 a.m. complained about a large party including a fire on the beach. She said she has a wooden roof and was concerned about fire danger.
BOLINAS Deputies received a report at 11 a.m. Tuesday that a man had fallen five to 12 feet from a "cherry picker" utility vehicle. The man passed out briefly, and Bolinas medics responded.
WOODACRE A Madrone Avenue resident at 4:43 p.m. Tuesday complained he had been receiving harassing phone calls several times a day for weeks. He said the caller "listens and then hangs up." A deputy have him advice.
TOMALES A rancher at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday reported that one of her workers had an open container of alcohol in his vehicle and appeared to be drinking while on the job. A deputy gave her advice.
SAN GERONIMO A resident at 7:37 p.m. Monday said she had seen someone cut the top off a cross on a nearby hill and then "cart" the cross "into the trees." A deputy reported taking what remained of the cross and dropping it off at the Presbyterian Church.
WOODACRE A resident at 11:11 a.m. Saturday reported a burglar had smashed a window of her locked truck and stolen her credit cards, which had already been used. At 9:47 a.m. Monday, she called deputies again and reported that a store in Santa Rosa has a videotape of the burglars using one of her credit cards.
NICASIO A resident of the Camino Margarita development at 9:56 a.m. Monday complained that transients have been using a fire road off Los Piños, leaving behind bottles and garbage.
WOODACRE A Redwood Drive resident at 1:10 p.m. Monday notified deputies that despite a court-issued restraining order, a man had come to her house and taken property.
LAGUNITAS Deputies at 6:23 p.m. Monday received a report of juveniles yelling and kicking newsstands along Sir Francis Drake Blvd.
WOODACRE A resident at 6:51 p.m. Monday complained of a man and woman yelling with someone hitting a wall. She said she could hear profanity.
DILLON BEACH A campground manager at 9:35 p.m. Monday told juveniles, who were setting off fireworks, to leave.
SAN GERONIMO A deputy at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road stopped a vehicle with false registration tabs at 9:39 p.m. Saturday.
DILLON BEACH An Ocean View Boulevard woman at 10:37 p.m. Saturday said a car had run off the road and hit a fire hydrant.
DILLON BEACH A man on Marine View Drive at 10:57 p.m. Saturday complained about "100 loud, rowdy campers." He said they had created a disturbance throughout the previous night. A deputy contacted the people, and they agreed to quiet down.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD Medics and the Highway Patrol responded at 11:58 a.m. Saturday when a motor vehicle and a bicycle collided.
INVERNESS The manager of a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Store at 12:02 p.m. Saturday reported her purse containing cash, credit cards, and checks had been stolen from her car.
OLEMA The manager of a Highway 1 store at 12:31 p.m. Saturday reported a middle-aged woman had stolen a bottle of wine. She said the woman claimed to have been overcharged and was told to leave. The woman paid for other items but took the wine without paying for it, the manager said.
WOODACRE A motorist at 5:06 p.m. Saturday reported a man in his 30s was walking down the middle of the road. As she drove past, she said, he yelled, "Better watch yourself and your dog or Ill kill it." The motorist added that she had also seen the man yell at a second man. She described the first man as wearing a paisley top and skin-tight blue pants.
POINT REYES STATION A woman at 5:50 p.m. Saturday reported a windsurfer appeared to be in trouble in the middle of Tomales Bay. She said he seemed unable to get his sail hoisted. A motorboat rescued the windsurfer.
OLEMA A worker at the campground told deputies at 9:04 p.m. Sunday he had second-hand information that youths were smoking marijuana near the campgrounds septic system. A deputy checked on the youths and found no pot.
NATIONAL SEASHORE Deputies at 10:47 p.m. Friday received a report that a vehicle had run off the road and that someone from the vehicle was leaving on foot. A deputy detained one person to determine if he was intoxicated.
BOLINAS A woman at 11:22 p.m. Friday complained of an "ongoing problem" with a man in his 60s spending nights in a white campershell over a white-truck with turquoise and brown stripes. "He is trashing the area," she told deputies.
TOMALES A woman at 9:43 a.m. Friday complained that a man had taken to parking his truck in the middle of a residential street off Highway 1. She said it is a hazard to cars and fire engines. Because the man appears to be doing this deliberately, the woman said, she wondered about his sanity.
INVERNESS Firefighters at 4:30 p.m. Monday reported a compost pile caught fire along Douglass St.
MARSHALL A Highway 1 resident at 8:14 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies a vandal on two occasions had slashed tires on different vehicles she owns. One slashing apparently occurred the day before, she said, and the other occurred the previous Friday.
BOLINAS A man at 11:37 a.m. Sunday called deputies from Brighton Avenue complained a merchant had tried to start a fight with him. He said, "There was some pushing, but no one got hurt." The merchant, in turn, claimed the man had stolen something from another business. A deputy gave the man advice.
BOLINAS A deputy armed with a warrant arrested a man at 12:20 p.m. Friday on Wharf Road. The man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
STINSON BEACH A man on Calle del Mar at 8:07 p.m. last Thursday reported there was a drunk driver on federal parkland. The driver is a Stinson Beach man, officers were told. Rangers asked that deputies help them contact the man.
BOLINAS A woman at 12:40 a.m. Friday reported her keys were stolen off a bar counter and that she believes she knows who took them She said she suspects a man, who is 32.
SAN GERONIMO A man at 12:41 a.m. Friday reported he was celebrating a birthday at the community center when a second man tried to attack a female and bit him. Deputies said the first man had a gash in his left arm and a bite on the biceps.
INVERNESS PARK A Sir Francis Drake resident at 9:08 a.m. last Thursday reported a burglar had broken into her car by smashing a rear window. Taken from the Ford were an empty camera case, an empty binoculars case, and a book bag containing books and papers.
INVERNESS PARK A woman at 6:54 p.m. last Thursday reported her gardeners car had been broken into. The burglar smashed the passengers side window, and the gardener said her cell phone and registration were taken, the woman added.
FOUR CORNERS A man at 11:56 a.m. last Thursday told deputies he had received a page from a pager stolen from him the previous day. He said a caller reported buying the pager Wednesday from a woman, who was accompanied by a child, that said she needed bus fare. The caller, he said, offered to return the pager but "dont know who you are." The man reported being concerned about the caller.
POINT REYES STATION A 55-year-old bicyclist at 12:18 p.m. last Thursday lost his balance and went down at Highway 1 and Mañana Way. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, nonetheless received scrapes to his face, as well as his elbows. An ambulance transported him to Marin General Hospital.
FOREST KNOLLS Armed with a warrant, a deputy at Castro Street and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 1:17 p.m. last Thursday arrested a man.
NICASIO Deputies at 1:33 p.m. last Thursday received a report that a car was on its side a quarter mile east of Big Rock in the eastbound lane of Lucas Valley Road. The person in the car was not injured but was trapped and could not get out. The Highway Patrol and county firefighters handled the mishap.
OLEMA A campground worker at 8:52 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies he was having trouble getting three men to leave the campground. He said he believed they had been drinking. A deputy determined they had not been drinking but moved them along anyhow.
WOODACRE A Redwood Drive resident at 2:09 a.m. Aug. 3 told deputies she could hear a male voice outside her window. She subsequently reported the noise had stopped.

BOLINAS A Wharf Road resident at 10 p.m. Sunday reported hearing two to four loud people, which might be high on drugs. She added that she had heard one of them say, "Lets get our clothes and get out of here."
WOODACRE A man complained to deputies July 26 that after he had a quarrel with his parents, they took away his medical marijuana. A deputy gave him advice for disposing of marijuana.
TOMALES A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident complained that an old friend of the family has become a nuisance by repeatedly coming onto her property. A deputy gave her advice for dealing with trespassers.
BOLINAS A caller at 12:03 a.m. Friday reported hearing a vehicle crash and people around it outside. Someone was talking about "a broken leg," he said.
WOODACRE A woman at 3:27 p.m. last Wednesday complained about a new neighbor. A deputy gave her advice for dealing with "cranky" neighbors. FOREST KNOLLS A resident on Friday afternoon reported that a youth aged eight or nine was riding a motorized scooter on a public road. She acknowledged the youth was wearing a helmet, there was no sidewalk in the area, and the youngsters parents were nearby.
WOODACRE A Rock Ridge Road resident at 3:55 p.m. last Thursday reported hearing a gunshot. A deputy could not find anyone shooting.
MUIR BEACH A Sunset Way resident said a Chevrolet pickup truck parked in front of a stairway was blocking access for his 84-year-old mother. The trucks owner agreed to move it.
BOLINAS A woman at 8:17 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a man had been illegally sleeping overnight in a white van parked in the area of Brighton Avenue. She said the man was not present at the moment and might be walking his dog. A deputy told her to call back when she saw him again. The man was later spotted behind the postoffice walking his dog.
STINSON BEACH A Calle del Pradero resident at 6:51 p.m. last Thursday reported that eight vehicles were parked in other peoples driveways while staying at a house on the street. A deputy talked to the lodgers, who agreed to move their vehicles.
TOMALES A man at 8:18 p.m. July 27 told deputies a possibly crazy man was talking to himself at Highway 1 and Dillon Beach Road.
STINSON BEACH A resident at 7:57 a.m. last Thursday told deputies his ex-wife, 51, was violating a court order that she stay away from him.
INVERNESS A Camino del Mar man at 11:22 p.m. July 27 complained about an illegal campfire on the beach.
TOMALES A Tomales-Petaluma Road woman at 8:44 p.m. July 26 reported boys were looking in the window of a house belonging to neighbors who were away.
BOLINAS Deputies at 10:32 p.m. July 26 received a report that a 90-year-old man was having trouble breathing.
OLEMA After a deer broke a leg July 26 when struck in traffic, an officer went to put it out of its misery, but by the time the officer got there, the deer had left.
