August 29, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A Cherry Drive resident at 9:30 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a thief had stolen a digital camera, cell phone, and wallet from his vehicle.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman, who refused to identify herself, at 8:32 p.m. Monday requested extra patrols of the town park at night because, she believes, people sleep there in warm weather. She declined to provide deputies with more information.

STINSON BEACH – A man called deputies from Highway 1 at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday to report that a burglar had smashed the windshield of his locked vehicle and had stolen a briefcase, a laptop computer, and a suit.

TOMALES – A Highway 1 resident at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday asked deputies to check on the welfare of her soon-to-be-ex husband. She said he was intoxicated and possibly driving a truck. She quoted him as saying he was "done with life." The estranged wife noted that her husband’s new girlfriend was probably at his house.

MARSHALL – A 70-year-old resident along Highway 1 at 7:06 a.m. Monday suffered an asthma attack and her inhaler stopped working.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 7:25 a.m. Monday reported her 14-year-old daughter had run away and was with her boyfriend in San Francisco.

NICASIO – A motorist at 8:34 a.m. Monday reported a dead deer was on Nicasio Valley Road 1.6 miles south of Lucas Valley Road. He said the deer was blocking a lane of traffic and that he’d had to swerve to miss it.

INVERNESS – Medics from the Inverness Volunteer Fire Department responded at 10:01 a.m. Monday when an 87-year-old woman fell out of her chair at the breakfast table. Medics said she was breathing and conscious but unresponsive.

MUIR BEACH – A Highway 1 resident at 11:05 a.m. Monday reported burglars had stolen $150 from her shed. (The dispatcher’s log was unclear whether the loss was in cash or property.) The resident said a witness had seen six to eight males enter the building.

BOLINAS – A woman at 11:22 a.m. Monday reported a utility trailer had been taken from her property during the night. She said the trailer belongs to a friend and is not registered. A deputy determined that a tenant had moved the trailer off her property. A deputy advised both parties that their quarrel was a civil-law dispute.

POINT REYES STATION – The commander of the West Marin Sheriff’s Substation at 11:31 a.m. Monday reported that a citizen had seen six youths go into an old building to explore it. A deputy checked the identification of the six and told them to leave.

INVERNESS – A merchant found a bullet two to three inches long in his parking lot at 1:45 p.m. Monday.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A motorist at 9 p.m. Sunday reported a man on Limantour Road eight miles from Bear Valley Road was trying to flag down passing vehicles, but none would stop. Deputies noted that the caller also "was too scared to stop with it being dark out." A deputy could not find the man.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 10:36 p.m. Sunday received a report of a human or animal corpse wrapped in a blanket along the shore. The corpse "smells very bad," the caller said. A deputy determined the object wasn’t a corpse but couldn’t tell what it was.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 4:27 p.m. last Thursday complained about a generator running 24 hours per day at the top of Rosario Road. A deputy reported that the homeowner with the generator has no PG&E hookup. An Aztec Avenue area woman at 11:45 p.m. Sunday complained that the generator is too loud. A third caller also complained about the noise coming from the top of Rosario Road. All was quiet when a deputy walked up Aztec Avenue and Guadalupe Place.

INVERNESS – Deputies at 8:31 a.m. Sunday received a report that an electrical transformer was on fire. Although there were trees nearby, they did not catch fire, and authorities notified PG&E of the mishap.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 10:05 a.m. Sunday called from Calle del Resaca on behalf of a client, saying that a drunk man was sleeping under the client’s residence. A deputy found a homeless man under the building, determined that he was not drunk, and moved him along.

STINSON BEACH – A restaurateur at 11:34 a.m. Sunday reported that a 21-year-old man had come into the business, saying he’d been assaulted at midnight on the pavement leading to Seadrift subdivision. He said he had been hit in the lip, as well as kicked and punched by six strangers.

MARSHALL – A deputy at 12:42 p.m. Sunday shot a deer, which had been injured in traffic on Highway 1, to put the animal out of its misery.

BOLINAS – Deputies and Bolinas Volunteer Fire Department medics responded at 1:12 p.m. Sunday when a woman in her 20s was hit in the face by a surfboard. The woman received a knot on her forehead, her nose was bleeding, and she said she may have broken her nose.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies at 9:55 p.m. Saturday received a report that a man was drinking in the town park. An officer admonished the man for drinking in the park and then sent him on his way. The man was not drunk, a deputy added.

BOLINAS – A woman at 9:55 p.m. Monday reported a man was harassing her by calling her collect all night. She said she has heard from several residents that he might be sleeping on Bolinas Beach. Last week, the Postal Service staff in Olema complained about the same man causing trouble in the postoffice.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 9:56 p.m. Saturday complained about loud music from a campsite. The nearest deputy was in Nicasio, and by the time he reached the campground, all was quiet.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 10:11 p.m. Saturday complained about fireworks. A woman caller subsequently said the fireworks were getting louder. A deputy found several youths without alcohol on the beach and two campers who were breaking camp. The youths said they would keep the noise down.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A Bolinas resident camping on Pierce Point reported at 12:09 a.m. Sunday that a group who were also camping on the beach were drinking and shooting their guns.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 1:14 a.m. Sunday complained about a bonfire at the beach at Calles del Arroyo y del Embarcadero. A deputy contacted a small group who agreed to put out their fire and leave.

STINSON BEACH – A woman, whom deputies said might be intoxicated, at 2:32 a.m. Sunday called officers from a public phone and said that while she was driving on Panoramic Highway, a vandal threw a rock through her windshield. Deputies asked her to wait by the phone, but she said she wanted to go home. A dispatcher noted that in the background of the call, she could hear the woman asking men if they saw the vandal who damaged her windshield.

WOODACRE – A deputy at 8:09 a.m. Saturday arrested a citizen on warrants.

SAN GERONIMO – A motorist at 10:49 a.m. Saturday complained of a "couple hundred bicyclists in the middle of [Nicasio Valley] Road" at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Calling the situation "very dangerous," the man said commercial vehicles couldn’t drive on the road because the bicyclists were filling a lane and would not move over. A Highway Patrol officer later reported seeing "many bicyclists" on the road "but none observed at this time in violation" of code sections requiring slower-moving vehicles to keep to the right side of their lane and to keep on the right side of the centerline.

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road rancher at 10:49 a.m. Saturday reported that someone had cut down the ranch’s windmill and taken its top. The rest of the windmill is lying on the ground, she said, adding that the culprits cut a fence to get to the windmill. She estimated the loss at around $2,000.

BOLINAS – An anonymous caller at 11 a.m. Saturday complained about four encampments that, she said, had been in the area of Brighton Avenue and Wharf Road for two weeks. She called them an "ongoing problem." A deputy found only one campsite on the beach, and the person in it was breaking camp.

NICASIO – A resident, who had previously reported jewelry missing, at 10:40 a.m. Saturday said silver in another box was also missing.

INVERNESS – A deputy at 12:12 p.m. Saturday assisted Inverness Volunteer Fire Department medics when a bicyclist crashed at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Vision Road.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies on Saturday afternoon received a report of three juveniles having a row at the postoffice. Two youths told deputies that a third had pushed them off their bicycles and threatened "a sexual attack." The third youth told deputies he had been assaulted by the other two.

POINT REYES STATION – A man on Highway 1 at 3:27 p.m. Saturday complained that a woman in her 20s was refusing to leave his Jeep Cherokee. He said that after he helped her with directions, she wouldn’t get out of his SUV.

SAN GERONIMO – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 5:16 p.m. Saturday reported a baby deer had been injured in traffic and was suffering. The Humane Society gave a deputy permission to shoot the fawn to put it out of its misery.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 6:21 p.m. Saturday reported that while his pickup truck was in the parking lot for Red Rock nude beach, someone broke into the vehicle and stole clothes and credit cards.

BOLINAS – A woman at 9:05 a.m. Friday complained about skateboards in the street at Altura and Brighton avenues. She said the skateboarders were "careless" and that she was concerned for their safety. She also complained about skateboard ramps in traffic lanes of Brighton Avenue.

SAN GERONIMO – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 9:54 a.m. Friday reported that a nighttime thief had stolen 100 hydrangeas from her front yard. She told deputies the flowering shrubs were worth $3 apiece.

MUIR BEACH – A resident at 12:23 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a neighbor, who has been ordered by a court to leave her alone, had come to her house and verbally abused her contractors.

DILLON BEACH – A man on Marine View Drive at 2:35 p.m. Friday told deputies that his generator had been stolen. He said he had been in the process of selling it to a woman, but she refused to sign the bill of sale and "won’t pay him his money," an officer reported. The man said that the woman was currently at her campsite getting ready to leave with his generator.

BOLINAS – A man at 5:20 p.m. Friday complained that two men building a fence along Altura Avenue "continue to yell obscenities at passersby." He said the men, who are in their 20s, have a "very aggressive pit bull." A deputy abated the problem.

POINT REYES STATION – A 64-year-old resident of Highway 1 at 11:23 p.m. Friday reported suffering abdominal pain four hours after eating salmon. He said the problem was probably food poisoning.

OLEMA – A motorist at 11:59 p.m. Friday was in a single-vehicle accident at Highway 1 and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies said the airbags on the vehicle, which was being driven by an Inverness woman, deployed and she was not hurt.

NICASIO – The foreman for a Camino Margarita house under construction at 8:03 a.m. last Thursday reported that a burglar had pried open the door of a locked garage and stolen parts of a table saw. At 2:38 p.m., the man called back to say that a $700 power plane and a $300 portable cable router and bits had also been stolen.

BOLINAS – An 80-year-old man at 11:49 a.m. last Thursday had a possible heart attack on Wharf Road. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

TOMALES – Deputies at 12:11 p.m. last Thursday received a report of someone throwing mannequins off a cliff. A deputy determined that the person was merely throwing dummies off a cliff as part of making a movie. An officer reported that "all seemed okay" but advised the person "to finish up filming."

DILLON BEACH – A Dillon Beach Avenue resident at 3:53 p.m. last Thursday asked deputies what to do about other people disposing of their trash in her Dumpster. A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A Lorraine Avenue resident at 5:16 p.m. last Thursday reported that a cell phone had been stolen from his car.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 5:23 p.m. last Thursday reported that someone was trying to kill him and that he had seen suspects running away. The man, who acknowledged taking methamphetamine two days earlier, said he hadn’t taken any that day. He said he had a butcher knife in his hand for protection but would put it down when deputies arrived.

LAGUNITAS – A Cintura Avenue woman at 5:44 p.m. last Thursday asked for advice regarding a solicitor who came to her house recently. She said he was Scottish and claimed to be selling children’s books. The woman noted the man seemed similar to someone described in Sheriff’s Calls last week. That person was selling books in Tomales and said he was Scottish. A deputy gave her advice about dealing with solicitors.

INVERNESS – A woman on Camino del Mar at 9:50 p.m. last Wednesday complained that people were partying on Shell Beach after it was closed for the night. She said the group was not noisy, but she wanted them removed. At 11:04 p.m., deputies received a report of a non-injury vehicle accident at her address. Officers noted the Inverness Public Utility District would be needed to shut off a water main.

INVERNESS – The Highway Patrol at 3:24 a.m. last Thursday called West Marin deputies after the CHP stopped a vehicle following a pursuit across the Golden Gate Bridge. The suspects said they had stolen the vehicle, which is registered to an Inverness Way resident, officers said. The CHP asked deputies to check with her to see if her vehicle had indeed been stolen.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

August 22, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

DILLON BEACH – A deputy at 9:44 p.m. last Wednesday arrested a man after he made "lewd and suggestive remarks to two underage girls," an officer reported. Another officer said the man had a small child with him and that there were about 15 children present when the man allegedly spoke in a lewd fashion.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 10:45 a.m. Saturday reported losing her wallet while shopping in a market.

POINT REYES STATION – Restaurant staff at 3:15 p.m. last Wednesday reported that a thief had stolen a bank-deposit bag from the manager’s briefcase. Missing was more than $2,250.

MARSHALL – A Marshall-Petaluma Road resident at 9:10 p.m. Monday complained about a "large truck in front of corrals with its generator running." A deputy contacted the trucker, who agreed to turn off his engine.

TOMALES – A man at 10:39 p.m. Monday heard what he described as a "vehicle hitting garbage cans." He said the four-wheel-drive vehicle was parked downtown and then took off at a high rate of speed. A deputy could find neither the vehicle nor any damaged property.

BOLINAS – A woman at 10:41 a.m. Monday complained about skateboarders setting up a ramp on Brighton Avenue and causing a traffic hazard. She said the youths pretend to have been hit by her vehicle when she drives by. A deputy talked with several juveniles, who claimed not to be involved with the skateboard ramp, and the ramp was taken out of the street.

WOODACRE – A one-year-old girl bloodied her mouth when she fell down 12 carpeted stairs in a home on Rock Ridge Road. Her father told deputies the little girl had pushed over a "baby gate" as he was lifting another child over it. The victim was airlifted to Children’s Hospital.

WOODACRE – A Railroad Avenue resident at 10:14 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a woman in her 20s and wearing a black hat had come to her door, opened it, and closed it 30 minutes ago. The woman asked for a blanket and then left, the resident said. She added that the woman was carrying a shopping bag.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 11:29 a.m. Sunday complained that a generator for backup power had been running for two weeks at the top of Rosario Road. She told officers they could hear it from the bridge over Papermill/Lagunitas Creek. A deputy said she would talk with the homeowner at the top of the road.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 8:15 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that a possibly suicidal woman was driving home to Solano County after trying unsuccessfully to kill herself earlier in the morning. The resident said the distraught woman had called her own sister from a gas station and said she had tried to drive off a cliff but hit a guardrail. The resident who placed the call to deputies said the victim has an "abusive boyfriend."

HICKS VALLEY – A man notified deputies at 9:04 a.m. Sunday that he had noticed tire marks in a turnout along the Marshall-Petaluma Road and found that an older, blue pickup truck had been pushed off the road after being dismantled.

INVERNESS PLACE – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident on Sunday morning reported that a would-be car burglar had stolen the registration for his sports pickup truck and had damaged the ignition to where the vehicle would no longer start.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 10:50 a.m. Sunday complained about music from a bar on weekends. A deputy gave her advice.

WOODACRE – Deputies and medics were summoned to Carson Road at 12:25 p.m. Sunday when an older man, who had been sitting, got up, fell down, and injured his hip.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 1:35 p.m. Sunday assisted paramedics when a citizen came into the firehouse suffering from anaphylactic shock.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies assisted firefighters at 2:26 p.m. Sunday on Seadrift Road when a four-year-old girl fell and hit her head, causing it to bleed.

HICKS VALLEY – A deputy at 9:18 a.m. Saturday found a 62-year-old motorcycle rider who had crashed along the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. The rider complained of pain to his wrist and was taken to Marin General Hospital.

INVERNESS PARK – A Vallejo Avenue resident at 10:19 a.m. Saturday complained that his car had been moved during the night. One tire was missing and had been replaced with the spare tire, he said.

POINT REYES STATION – In order to report a crash, a motorcyclist at 1:04 p.m. Saturday kicked down the door of a house on Highway 1 between Viento Way and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. Along with the 52-year-old driver, there had been a woman on the bike who suffered some injuries to her arm, a deputy reported. Another officer noted that while a forced entry is legal in an emergency, he wondered why it was necessary at noon in the middle of a residential neighborhood near downtown.

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident Saturday afternoon reported another woman, 50, had threatened her with a gun but had not actually pulled it on her. A deputy determined there had been no threat and gave the resident advice regarding "conspiracy-theory information" from a friend in Nicasio.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 2:41 p.m. Saturday received a report of a traffic accident with no one injured at Highway 1 and Mesa Road. The two roads cross in three places, and there was no indication on the dispatcher’s log as to which intersection was the crash site.

BOLINAS – Bolinas firefighters at 3:29 p.m. Saturday were summoned to Bolinas Lagoon where they removed a tree that had fallen across Highway 1 between the Point Reyes Bird Observatory and the Bolinas Wye.

POINT REYES STATION – A motorist at 6:36 p.m. Saturday reported she had accidentally left her Jeep in a business’ yard when it closed its gates for the night. A deputy couldn’t find her.

NICASIO – A houseguest, who was staying in a Nicasio Valley Road home, at 7:52 p.m. Saturday reported there were people parked with their vehicle’s hood up at the gate. The people said there were rocks in their manifold, but the houseguest found that suspicious. The people were gone when a deputy arrived.

DILLON BEACH – A man on Marine View Drive at 11:01 p.m. Saturday reported that 30 to 40 youths were drinking alcohol and partying. A deputy went to the youths’ campsites and advised them to quiet down. He noted that "numerous, unclaimed, hidden beers were found, and 40 were poured out."

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 12:36 a.m. Sunday told deputies that her 33-year-old husband had abandoned her and the kids six weeks ago. Since then, she said, she has been finding "discrepancies" in the financial records for their business, and he won’t discuss them. An hour earlier, she added, he had gotten into her car, pushed her aside, and driven her to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard where he left her. Deputies noted there is a history of domestic violence in their household.

OLEMA – A woman at 9:24 p.m. Friday told deputies she had seen a red Pontiac with Idaho license plates driving erratically, twice running off the edge of the road. She said the car was now stopped downtown and that the people in it might be drunk. The vehicle was gone when a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – An anonymous caller at 12:05 a.m. Saturday complained about people yelling on the main street of town. A dispatcher noted she could hear yelling in the background of the phone call. A deputy found about 75 people on the street and moved them back into a bar.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy on Highway 1 at 1:29 a.m. Saturday arrested an Olema man on charges of violating his probation.

INVERNESS – A deputy at 2:46 a.m. Saturday dispersed a loud party on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident at 8:33 a.m. Friday reported a deer had been injured in traffic. The Humane Society put it out of its misery.

SAN GERONIMO – A garbage man, who had been working on San Geronimo Valley Drive, at 10:06 a.m. Friday reported finding what appeared to be a weapon.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Forest Drive resident at 1:38 p.m. Friday told deputies he believes that a woman living down the street from him has been dumping her garbage in his driveway for the past two weeks. A deputy gave him advice.

HICKS VALLEY – A Hicks Valley Road rancher at 3:53 p.m. last Thursday reported a vandal had broken through a ranch gate, causing damage, and had broken a window on a vehicle. He requested extra patrols in the area.

TOMALES – A Highway 1 resident at 8:08 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a man had come to his house claiming to be selling children’s books and religious books. The resident became suspicious when the man asked where there were children in the neighborhood. He added that the man said he was from Scotland and possibly had an accent. He described the man as being in his early 20s and carrying a black school-bag.

DILLON BEACH – A caller on Marine View Drive at 8:46 p.m. last Thursday reported seeing man holding a woman down. She was crying, "Get off me," the caller said. She added that when her father told the man to stop, he got off the woman.

FOREST KNOLLS – A deputy at 11:40 p.m. last Thursday dispersed a small gathering of youths at Guadalupe Place.

BOLINAS – A man at 1:09 p.m. last Thursday reported an $80 cell phone, surfboard fins, a beach towel, and a duffel bag had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked on Brighton Avenue the previous Monday morning.

WOODACRE – A deputy assisted medics at 7:50 p.m. last Wednesday when a woman on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard began breaking out and her throat began swelling. The woman said she thought she was having an allergic reaction to chicken crêpes with pesto.

INVERNESS PARK – A deputy at 8:05 p.m. last Wednesday returned a lost dog to its owner on Drake’s Summit Road.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident at 9:14 p.m. last Thursday reported a cherry-bomb-like explosion and hearing "a lot of people talking."

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 11:40 p.m. last Wednesday complained about loud construction noise in a residence where all the lights were out. All was quiet when a deputy arrived on the scene.

BOLINAS – A member of the school staff at 10:30 a.m. last Wednesday reported that a thief had stolen ramps from the back of his pickup truck while it was parked at the school.

INVERNESS – Deputies at 2:38 p.m. last Wednesday received a report that $150 worth of lumber had been stolen on Inverness Way.

STINSON BEACH – A man called from Calle del Mar at 3:47 p.m. last Wednesday to report that more of his tools had been stolen during the night.

FOUR CORNERS – Deputies at 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday received a complaint of a parked truck with a loud engine running. A deputy contacted the driver, who turned off the engine.

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 7:26 a.m. Aug. 13 reported that his estranged wife, who had left their home three months earlier, had returned and "removed almost everything from the house." The man said he had changed the locks and believes she gained entry through a window.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 9:20 a.m. last Wednesday reported being harassed by a neighbor. A deputy gave her advice.

OLEMA – Postoffice staff at 12:15 p.m. Aug. 13 reported a man became upset with the Postal Service when he picked up his mail. A deputy gave the staff advice.

CHILENO VALLEY – Medics responded at 12:32 p.m. Aug. 13 to Wetmore Lane when a limb fell 40 feet onto a tree worker in his 20s. Deputies were told the worker was disoriented and had cuts on his face. A rescue helicopter was sent for him.

August 15, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES – A man at 12:35 p.m. Monday complained that a thief had stolen property from his vehicle.

INVERNESS – An Inverness Way resident at 5:04 p.m. Monday reported that a thief had stolen her garden hose and a copper container for it during the Inverness Fair Saturday.

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday notified deputies that his estranged wife had removed community property from his residence.

POINT REYES STATION – An out-of-county woman known to deputies as "the cat lady" at 8 p.m. Monday asked officers’ advice regarding her feeding cats in town. Deputies told her not to feed them because the cats are being caught and spayed. She was also told to stay out of stores where the owners ask her to leave.

DILLON BEACH – A contractor at 11:30 a.m. Friday reported a burglar had entered a Tahiti Way residence that is being remodeled and stole a portable air-compressor and hose. The contractor, who estimated the loss at $300, told deputies he suspects a burglar entered a locked area of the house during a rowdy party about 5 a.m. last Wednesday.

BOLINAS – A Dogwood Road resident at 3 p.m. Friday reported her ex-boyfriend was at her residence in violation of a court-issued restraining order.

POINT REYES STATION – A 26-year-old man turned himself in at the sheriff’s substation at 11 a.m. Saturday and was arrested on an out-of-county warrant.

SAN GERONIMO – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 12:07 a.m. Sunday complained about a loud party in the neighborhood. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

INVERNESS – Deputies and a doctor were summoned at 12:08 a.m. Sunday when a 14-year-old boy began hemorrhaging following a tonsillectomy.

SAN GERONIMO – A deputy responded to Creamery Road at 1:46 a.m. Sunday following a complaint about a loud party. The guests were leaving when the officer arrived; one person was temporarily detained but not arrested.

STINSON BEACH – County firefighters at 1:31 p.m. Saturday began a search for an injured hiker but could not find him. Deputies said the hiker may have found transportation from the scene on his own.

INVERNESS – Deputies at 1:42 p.m. Saturday received a report that a deer injured in traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard had crawled to the edge of Tomales Bay at the Brock Schreiber Boathouse. The Humane Society authorized a deputy to shoot the deer to put it out of its misery.

INVERNESS PARK – Authorities at 3:31 p.m. Saturday received word that a two-year-old girl had been pulled out of a pool on Drake’s View Drive where she nearly drowned. A deputy rushing to the scene radioed that he would be delayed "due to bumper-to-bumper traffic in Stinson Beach." The toddler was "conscious and talking" after being rescued but "seemed to have swallowed a lot of water," a deputy later reported. She "sounded like [there was] water in her lungs," he added. She was "acting normal but still saying [her] lungs hurt."

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Sierra resident at 9:59 p.m. Friday notified deputies she could hear a woman screaming and thought the woman might be threatened. However, an officer reported, the resident was "uncooperative with other info. She thinks people would listen to her phone call to sheriffs." A sheriff’s deputy could find nothing amiss.

FALLON – An Estero Road resident at 10:01 p.m. Friday asked deputies to check on shrubbery at the corner of Estero and Valley Ford-Franklin School roads. She said the shrubbery blocks the view of motorists on Estero Road who are entering Valley Ford-Franklin School Road.

CHILENO VALLEY – A deputy on Wilson Hill Road at 10:43 p.m. Friday found a Jersey cow in the roadway. The officer later reported, "She was a little stubborn, but returned to the field."

NICASIO – Deputies at 5:30 a.m. Friday received a report that a 45-year-old Lucas Valley Road resident’s heart was racing. Deputies were told the man has a history of heart problems.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies and medics responded at 8:12 a.m. Friday when a 55-year-old resident bent over and dislocated a hip. Deputies noted she’d had a recent hip replacement. Medics transported her to Marin General Hospital.

BOLINAS – A Little Mesa resident at 10:32 a.m. Friday, complained that a blue truck had been parked on Altura Avenue for 24 hours, partly blocking the road. A deputy determined the truck was not blocking the road but left the driver a tag noting the complaint.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 12:49 a.m. Friday complained that a 50-year-old man was harassing people and being obnoxious. She later reported he had left the area.

WOODACRE – Deputies at 1:15 p.m. Friday received a complaint that a pickup truck parked at Madrone Avenue and Maple Road had not left enough room for passing vehicles. The resident said such parking was an ongoing problem. A deputy determined the truck was not blocking the roadway.

STINSON BEACH – A detective at 2:20 p.m. Friday reported the possible sighting of a murder suspect near Highway 1. West Marin deputies said the person being sought allegedly kidnapped and raped his ex-girlfriend in Reno and shot to death her new boyfriend. The culprit then abandoned the kidnapped woman in San Mateo County. The person spotted in Stinson Beach was reported to have a shaved head and a goatee. He was trying to shave using a vehicle’s mirror, the detective said. West Marin deputies could not find the suspect.

LAGUNITAS – A man whose home is next to the Ink Wells at 2:14 p.m. last Thursday complained that about 12 youths had built a dam in San Geronimo Creek and were on his property to use the swimming hole. At 4:20 p.m. Friday, the resident again called deputies to complain about people trespassing on his property to swim in the Ink Wells. A deputy told the youths to stay on the west side of a Marin Municipal Water District pipe over San Geronimo Creek. West of the pipe, the property is owned by MMWD while the property upstream from the pipe is private, the officer reported.

NICASIO – A merchant at 5:19 p.m. Friday reported a cow on the roadway. A deputy found there were, in fact, several cows in the roadway. A rancher returned them to their field.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 5:49 p.m. Friday received a report from Wharf Road that a 53-year-old man had cut his right hand with a power saw and was bleeding freely. A deputy reported the man’s palm was cut and several fingers were partially amputated. Deputies helped paramedics with equipment, and the man was transported by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

BOLINAS – A Birch Road man at 11:22 p.m. last Thursday returned home to find the front-door lock replaced "with some kind of staple," he told deputies. He said he would wait for an officer before entering his house.

WOODACRE– A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 8:10 p.m. last Thursday told deputies he is a security officer for a hospital and that a woman, who also works in the hospital, had left a threatening message on an answering machine.

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident suffered a possible stroke at 11 a.m. last Thursday and could no longer speak. A deputy noted that the 60-year-old man previously had a heart attack. He was transported to a hospital.

BOLINAS – A man at 12:17 p.m. last Thursday complained that workers at a construction site in the vicinity of Fern Road and Ocean Parkway were playing their stereo too loudly. A deputy said he would try to contact their foreman.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 1:26 last Thursday told deputies that her ex-husband had defrauded her by concealing his ownership of real estate worth "millions of dollars." An officer noted, "She wants some of it." He advised the woman to take her case to civil court.

STINSON BEACH – A doctor at 1:55 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a 50-year-old man had an obstructed bladder and was suffering abdominal pain. Town firefighters transported the man to a hospital.

POINT REYES STATION – A 47-year-old woman with a history of kidney problems at 2 p.m. last Thursday reported suffering a high fever "that keeps rising." She said she would see a doctor in town.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Guadalupe Place resident at 6 p.m. last Thursday reported hearing six to eight male and female voices threatening violence. The resident said she could not see the people but thought they might be fighting. A deputy talked to a gathering of about 20 and found nothing amiss.

BOLINAS – A bartender on Wharf Road at 6:29 p.m. last Thursday complained that a man in his 40s was outside the bar scaring people. She later reported he had left, heading toward the community center.

CHILENO VALLEY – A woman at 6:56 p.m. last Thursday reported seeing a woman walking and a man in a car chasing her and yelling. She couldn’t provide more details, she said, because the two were 100 yards away, but she was going to get her binoculars.

LAGUNITAS – A Corona Avenue resident at 8:34 p.m. last Wednesday complained of being pushed while at a friend’s house.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies last Wednesday reported that a "male turned white after drinking," adding that the "male also had marijuana." Firefighters told deputies no assistance was needed and transported him to Marin General Hospital.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 7:20 a.m. last Wednesday reported that a small amount of money had been taken from her vehicle. Other property in the vehicle had been "tossed around," she said.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 8:10 p.m. last Wednesday reported that her purse had been stolen from her vehicle. She said it contained keys and a FasTrak.

BOLINAS – A Rosewood Road resident at 9:23 a.m. last Wednesday reported that a man had left several "erratic," threatening messages on her answering machine. A deputy advised her to get a court to issue a restraining order against the man.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Mar resident at 10:32 a.m. Aug. 6 reporting finding a 45 caliber bullet in his driveway the previous day. He said he thought people in the area might have been shooting guns into the air over the weekend, adding that this is becoming an ongoing problem.

POINT REYES STATION – A 70-year-old woman collapsed on B Street for unknown reasons about 11 a.m. Aug. 6. The woman was conscious and breathing, deputies were told.

WOODACRE – County firefighters at 10:51 p.m. Monday reported youths were partying on Fire Road, where juveniles had started a grassfire with fireworks a week earlier. A deputy located the youths, found they had no alcohol, noted all were cooperative, and sent them on their way.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 12:53 a.m. Tuesday complained of loud music coming from a vehicle in which a man and woman were sleeping. A deputy found the vehicle parked on Lagunitas Road and was unable to awaken the woman. The man, however, did wake up, and the officer abated the problem.

OLEMA – A woman at 8:44 a.m. Monday told deputies she and her children were having breakfast at the campground when a man offered the children quarters for playing video games. "When she turned her back, he was gone," a deputy reported.

MARSHALL – A man at 12:35 p.m. Monday reported that a burglar had broken the right rear window of his vehicle, which was parked along Highway 1, and had stolen a briefcase.

FOREST KNOLLS – An Aztec Avenue resident at 5:32 p.m. Monday complained that his neighbors were building a large bridge without permits over a creek. A deputy gave him advice.

NICASIO – A man at 6:06 p.m. Monday told deputies that a large group of kids with a bong had gotten out of a car on Nicasio Valley Road. He said he was concerned that the youths would later be driving while high. A deputy was unable to find any youths in the area.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 12:33 a.m. Monday assisted medics after a 97-year-old woman collapsed while getting into bed. A deputy said the woman was experiencing "extreme weakness...due to heat." The woman was checked by medics but refused transportation to a hospital. A caretaker was with her.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy responded when a Calle del Embarcadero resident at 4:07 a.m. Monday notified officers she’d heard her screen door open and had seen the shape of a man’s head wearing a mask. She said the man was taking the screen door off and that there have been prowlers in the neighborhood.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Pradero resident at 9:52 a.m. Sunday complained about campers with a bonfire on the beach across the street from her house. Firefighters responded.

FALLON – An Estero Road resident at 11:48 a.m. Sunday told deputies that someone had changed the lock on a rental home and that the tenant could not get in. She also complained about illegal hunting in the area.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. INVERNESS – A woman at 3:15 p.m. Friday told deputies a thief had stolen her 12-foot-long, aluminum boat within the last 10 days to three weeks. She said the boat had been at Chicken Ranch Beach.

BOLINAS – An Alder Road resident at 10:21 a.m. Saturday complained that a thief had stolen a cell phone from her car.

TOCALOMA – A deputy at 11:21 a.m. last Wednesday shot a deer on the east side of Olema Hill to put the animal out of its misery. The deer had been struck by traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

MUIR BEACH – A merchant at 3:30 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a painting, money, a work lamp, other tools, an antique lamp, and candelabras have been stolen in the past two months.

MARSHALL – The Highway Patrol at 11:16 p.m. Monday notified deputies an Angus cow was on the shoulder of Highway 1 downtown. A deputy could not find the cow.

WOODACRE – A Central Avenue resident at 8:04 a.m. Monday reported property was taken from her home during the past two weeks while construction was underway.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 11:01 a.m. Monday notified deputies that part of a corpse had washed up at the end of Seadrift Road. A deputy determined the man had actually found part of a whale, which was very "smelly," another deputy reported.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies at 4:10 p.m. Monday received word that an 84-year-old man was unconscious in a campground. The man’s caretaker was with him, and she said his blood sugar was very low. She believed he had not taken his insulin that day.

BOLINAS – A townswoman at 7:22 p.m. Sunday reported that a man was living in a tent on Canyon Road. At times, she said, she could hear a second voice. Someone had left garbage all around the campsite and was defecating in the area, she said. A deputy found a homeless woman at the tent, and she agreed to pick up the debris and move.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK – Deputies at 10:02 p.m. Sunday received word that a tree had fallen across one lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. An officer soon reported that the lane had been cleared.

WOODACRE – A housesitter at 10:26 p.m. Sunday notified deputies she could hear noises in the apartment downstairs although nobody was supposed to be there. She noted, however, that the dog in her apartment was not upset.

NICASIO – A deputy at 10:40 p.m. Sunday received a report of two people with a small campfire along Nicasio Valley Road. An officer found several people at the scene and moved them along.

STINSON BEACH – A man on Calle del Pradero at 8:21 p.m. Saturday complained that his ex-girlfriend used a rolled up magazine to smash a taillight on his pickup truck.

DILLON BEACH – In the vicinity of Valley Ford-Franklin School and Dillon Beach roads, a deputy at 8:56 p.m. Saturday gave advice to people who’d been in a fight earlier that day. Deputies were told the victim of the fight might have committed battery six years ago against the brother of one of the other people involved in Saturday’s altercation. The officer was told the suspect’s brother might be staying "in another campsite."

TOMALES – Deputies at 10:48 p.m. Saturday received a report from a Tomales-Petaluma Road resident, who said someone yelling was lying on the ground in front of the resident’s home. A deputy determined a drunk had been "trying to walk in front of cars."

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 10:59 p.m. Saturday reported four or five carloads of people were being noisy. A Sonoma County deputy said he could not respond to the call since he at the time was dealing with an insane person. A West Marin deputy finally reached the scene and advised the people "to turn it down."

DILLON BEACH – A man on Marine View Drive at 1:14 a.m. Sunday reported hearing a 25-year-old man and a 24- or 25-year-old woman quarreling. The woman was sobbing, he said.

DILLON BEACH – The Highway Patrol at 3:10 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that drunken juveniles carrying ice chests were running through campsites.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at a campground called deputies at 8:03 a.m. Sunday and complained of "lots of people cussing and swearing and giving fee-takers a problem at the front gate." In addition, she reported one man, who had spent the night in the campground, had paid for his campsite with a credit card that was no longer valid.

BOLINAS – A Juniper Road resident at 8:34 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that his ex-girlfriend, 56, had entered his house despite a court-issued temporary restraining order. She had also taken some of his belongings out of his vehicle and dumped gasoline on the ground around the vehicle, he reported.

FOREST KNOLLS – A deputy armed with a warrant arrested a woman at 10:18 a.m. Saturday on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

HICKS VALLEY – The Highway Patrol at 12:58 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a woman’s leg had been cut by a bicycle chain. The CHP said she was standing by with a photographer at Novato Boulevard and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road.

OLEMA – A campground employee at 1:16 p.m. Saturday reported that an unwanted person was refusing to leave.

STINSON BEACH – A wallet that had been lost by a Lafayette woman Friday was turned over to deputies at 2:43 p.m. Saturday on Belvedere Avenue. Deputies notified the woman, who said she would pick up the wallet.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 4:03 p.m. Saturday complained that a Jeep was parked so far onto the roadway that a fire engine could not get by if it had to. A deputy determined that the Jeep was legally parked, but after he spoke with its owner, "she moved the vehicle without question," the officer reported.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 6 p.m. Saturday complained that her son had been trespassing on her part of their property.

NICASIO – A deputy at 8:59 p.m. Friday shot a deer to put it out of its misery after it was struck by traffic on Nicasio Valley Road.

STINSON BEACH – Following a resident’s complaint, a deputy on Calle del Occidente at 11:24 p.m. Friday advised a party of juveniles to keep the noise down. The youths agreed to do so, but deputies at 11:57 p.m. received a second complaint about the noise.

WOODACRE – A Railroad Avenue resident at 12:02 a.m. Saturday told deputies she had heard a gunshot. All was quiet when a deputy arrived on the scene.

STINSON BEACH – A merchant at 12:02 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that a 22-year-old man, who had been drinking, was out of control. The merchant said that employees had taken the man’s keys away because he was too drunk to drive.

WOODACRE – County firefighters at 12:56 a.m. Saturday quickly doused a grassfire on Fire Road, a short ways uphill from their firehouse. Firefighter Ken Carter said teenagers shooting off firecrackers started the fire, which burned only a third of an acre and was out in five minutes. The teens were seen fleeing the scene but were not apprehended. Carter said the firecrackers woke up firefighters sleeping in the firehouse.

INVERNESS – A resident of Aberdeen Way told deputies at 1:13 a.m. Saturday that she had heard gates to her yard open and close but no further sounds.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies and medics were summoned Saturday after a 57-year-old man, who’d had his hips replaced, dislocated a hip.

POINT REYES STATION – A suicidal woman, 38, was placed on a hold at the county crisis center after she said on Saturday that she wanted to hurt herself. The woman said she planned to drive into a tree, a deputy reported.

WOODACRE – A 73-year-old woman at 12:48 p.m. Friday complained of receiving harassing phone calls with heavy breathing on the line. She later received computer sounds, she added. A deputy advised her to contact the phone company.

WOODACRE – A Central Avenue resident at 3:25 p.m. Friday told deputies she had received a threatening call two weeks ago. She said she has a civil-court claim against the caller, who also threatened her in a San Anselmo restaurant two weeks ago. She said San Anselmo Police are handling the case.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Guadalupe Place resident at 8:24 p.m. Friday called deputies to complain that juveniles were creating a disturbance in the town park. She added that she believed some of them were drinking alcohol. A deputy checked the park and found "no alcohol or drugs," just some youths playing basketball. The officer reported that the resident "constantly calls if juveniles are in the park."

FOREST KNOLLS – A man and a woman about 12:02 a.m. Friday complained separately about a loud party with older teens screaming.

POINT REYES STATION – A caretaker on Friday reported that a 77-year-old woman had suffered a stroke. She was conscious but unable to walk, having also suffered a stroke the day before, the caretaker said.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 3:27 p.m. last Thursday reported losing his wallet containing $80 in cash, credit cards, and his identification as a former probation officer.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies on Rosario Road at 8:20 p.m. last Thursday made an arrest on charges of transportation, sale, and furnishing of illegal drugs.

POINT REYES STATION – A blue jacket and a set of keys were found at the firehouse at 7:26 p.m. last Wednesday.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 8:29 p.m. last Wednesday asked deputies to photograph her bruises, adding that they were the result of domestic violence.

STINSON BEACH – A Highway 1 resident at 8:44 p.m. last Wednesday complained about fireworks on the beach. A deputy spoke to a Park Service ranger, who said he had seen no fireworks on the beach.

SAN GERONIMO – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 11:07 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies he had encountered a "verbally abusive" camper at the top of Meadow View Lane.

NICASIO – Lucasfilm at 1:15 p.m. last Wednesday reported someone’s vehicle had run off Lucas Valley Road and into a ditch. No one was injured, a staff member said. County firefighters could not find the vehicle.

FOREST KNOLLS – An 82-year-old Montezuma Avenue resident got a piece of sandwich stuck in her throat at 2:14 p.m. last Wednesday and could barely breathe. A deputy kept the woman calm until fire department medics arrived. The medics were able to clear the blockage.

August 1, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO – A Camino Margarita resident at 9:20 a.m. last Thursday told deputies a burglar had stolen a woman’s platinum pendant-ear-ring set and a diamond ring from their house. He estimated the loss at $5,500.

POINT REYES STATION – An owner of land along Highway 1 at 3:30 p.m. Friday told deputies that a vandal had used a hacksaw to cut off the knob of the valve for a waterline to his property from North Marin Water District’s two-inch main. A deputy said the matter is basically a dispute for civil court between neighboring landowners.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 3 p.m. Saturday told deputies that a thief had stolen a bicycle from the yard in front of his house.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 3:34 p.m. Sunday notified deputies she had lost her wallet and checkbook on Fourth Street.

POINT REYES STATION – Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies at 3:25 p.m. last Wednesday told West Marin deputies that a man had assaulted his companion and then fled. Sonoma County officers later reported the man had turned himself in at the Sonoma County Jail. It is not certain that the two events are related, but several hours before the first call from Sonoma deputies, an upset woman walked into a Fourth Street business, saying she had been battered by her husband. The merchant reported that the woman’s hands were cut.

NICASIO – Deputies at 11:35 a.m. July 22 received a report that a man and woman on Nicasio Valley Road were arguing over "use of the phone."

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 8:20 a.m. Monday reported that twice since Friday he had found that someone had unlocked his gate. He said he had seen tire tracks on his property and believes he has a problem with trespassers. The man said he would change the lock on his gate.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 11:12 a.m. Monday received word that an 84-year-old man with a history of heart problems was having problems breathing. He was transported by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

MARSHALL – Petaluma Police at 12:20 p.m. Monday told deputies that in the area there is a 35-year-old man with a warrant out on him on charges of spousal abuse. Petaluma asked the West Marin substation to notify them if the man was found, saying police officers would book him. In addition, police told deputies here, a court-issued emergency protective order needed to be served on the man in order to keep him away from his wife.

MARSHALL – A Marshall-Petaluma Road resident at 12:53 p.m. Monday called deputies to report that a man in his 30s was sitting on a hillside of her family’s ranch. She asked deputies to check on him. However, she later notified deputies that she now believed the man was merely cutting holly and that everything was fine.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 1:27 p.m. Monday reported seeing two males hiding in bushes of Roys Redwoods Open Space Preserve and then leaving in a blue truck. The woman said she subsequently found a pocket knife and a homemade teepee. She offered to take deputies to the site.

WOODACRE – A Maple Avenue resident at 1:46 p.m. Monday notified deputies that he had lost some checks a month ago, and that one of them was fraudulently cashed for $1,385 on Sunday.

TOMALES – A Whittaker Bluff Road resident at 3:36 p.m. Monday called deputies to say her sister’s child was being taken away by its father. Deputies could hear "lots of yelling in the background" of the call, and the woman said the father was leaving in a red Honda even though he doesn’t have a driver’s license. The father had hit her sister earlier, the resident added.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 6 p.m. Monday reported a deer had been hit in traffic but was still alive in the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Geronimo Valley Drive.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 7:46 p.m. Monday told officers a 55-year-old Tamal Road man had hit her near Guadalupe Place park.

STINSON BEACH – A helicopter at 8:33 p.m. Monday transported a 14-year-old boy to a hospital after he suffered a head injury when struck in the head by a soccer ball. Deputies said the boy’s speech was "slurred" after the mishap.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 9:11 p.m. Monday called deputies from El Sobrante to report that his 76-year-old father had said to his wife that he hurt all over and that someone was stabbing him.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 9:25 p.m. Monday told deputies that two men in their 20s appeared to be trying to break into cars parked along Highway 1. He said the pair were in their 20s and that one was wearing a cowboy hat.

INVERNESS PARK – The wiring for a wall heater in a Portola Avenue house shorted out behind the heater at 9:49 p.m. Monday. Firefighters prevented the short from setting the house on fire.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 10 p.m. Monday found a golf cart on the 13th green and drove it to the clubhouse. He also saw another cart left outside the clubhouse, he reported. Based on past vandalism to golf carts at the links, he said he feared more mischief might be afoot. A deputy determined there had been no vandalism and that the carts had merely been left outside by golfers who failed to return them to the clubhouse.

INVERNESS – Deputies at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday received a complaint of noise on Cameron Street. Deputies dispersed a small group of people.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 11:34 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that his disabled 22-year-old son was supposed to be under his care, but the boy’s mother was in his house, having taken a cab to his house from her home in San Rafael. He added that he had filed charges against the 50-year-old woman over an incident the previous day. A deputy concluded, "There appears to be a misunderstanding between the mother...and the reporting party." However, at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, the man again complained about the woman being in his house. He claimed she is crazy and was rambling about her son being taken away against her will. A deputy arrested the woman for violating a court-issued domestic restraining order. At 7:01 p.m. the same day, the woman called deputies to complain that the boy is with his father and that the father had hit her.

DILLON BEACH – A camper at 10:51 a.m. Sunday reported that a vandal had sprayed butter all over his belongings and had stolen a chair. A deputy, however, noted that once he got to the scene, the man had nothing to say about the butter and instead was upset about a stolen football. The man refused to file an official report.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 6:02 p.m. Sunday used a cell phone to notify deputies she had fallen on Third Street and could not get up. Deputies and firefighters found her lying on the pavement.

WOODACRE – A woman at 4:28 a.m. Sunday notified deputies of the custody arrangements a court had ordered for her 17-year-old son. At 9:06 p.m. Sunday, she complained that her 17-year-old son was at his father’s house and that the father was drinking in the presence of his son although the court order forbids it.

SAN GERONIMO – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 9:43 p.m. Sunday reported having a quarrel with her boyfriend. He had been drinking, she said, and was now "busting up a tool shed." Deputies quoted the resident as saying her boyfriend was "upset about something unknown to [her]."

BOLINAS – A deputy at Overlook Drive and Popular Road at 11:42 p.m. Sunday arrested the driver of an older pickup truck on charges of drunk driving. The driver, who was described as "cooperative," was turned over to the Highway Patrol.

MARSHALL – Deputies at 7:04 p.m. Saturday received an anonymous complaint about loud music coming from a white motorhome on the Marshall-Petaluma Road. The disturbance ended before the arrival of a deputy, who was told that the noise was merely the testing of a sound system to be used during a party the following day.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 7:23 p.m. Saturday received an anonymous complaint that there was a fire on the beach near Calle del Arroyo. A deputy found a family having a barbecue, told them the fire was illegal, and they put it out.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 9:01 p.m. Saturday complained that a neighbor’s radio was too loud. All was quiet when a deputy arrived, and the neighbor promised to keep her radio’s volume down.

FOREST KNOLLS – An anonymous caller at 3:25 a.m. Sunday complained about a loud party in the vicinity of Arroyo Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A deputy noted he had already gone to the house twice before that night but that the four partygoers now promised they would "take it inside."

BOLINAS – A woman at 8:36 a.m. Saturday told deputies that the previous day she had lost her wallet containing miscellaneous papers and $200.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded at 9:58 a.m. Saturday when a bicyclist crashed along Highway 1 a mile north of the Doughty Ranch. An officer said the crash was caused by the lack of a "shoulder on the roadway." Highway 1 is being repaved with a sharp dropoff beside the pavement.

SAN GERONIMO – After firefighters summoned them at 8:23 a.m. Friday, deputies removed a deer killed in traffic from the middle of Nicasio Valley Road. The Humane Society disposed of the body.

OLEMA –A 77-year-old man at 1:15 p.m. Saturday tripped and injured his hip. Deputies and medics responded to the mishap.

DILLON BEACH – A man on Marine View Drive at 2:34 p.m. Saturday said that three men aged 35 to 45 were on a pier using marijuana and possibly methamphetamine.

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 3:35 p.m. Saturday received a call that a 80-year-old man was experiencing chest pains. Deputies and medics responded, and the man was taken to a medical clinic.

OLEMA – A woman at 7:18 p.m. Friday complained that her ex-boyfriend had stolen her camera and had pawned it at a pawn shop. Sonoma County deputies asked that the ex-boyfriend be arrested on a warrant and on charges of grand theft and receiving stolen property. Sonoma deputies themselves eventually arrested him.

MUIR BEACH – A woman at 9:55 p.m. Friday reported that a maroon Volkswagen Golf had been parked in a turnout along Highway 1 for 36 hours although there were no houses or trailheads in the area.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 12:07 a.m. Saturday notified deputies she was detaining a juvenile for theft and because of complaints he was setting off fireworks. However, she did not press charges.

WOODACRE – Deputies and firefighters at 1:23 a.m. Friday closed Redwood Drive near Fern Avenue because of arcing powerlines in trees over the road. After the problem was apparently fixed and a PG&E crew departed, an explosion was heard at 3:34 a.m., and PG&E had to return to the scene.

FOREST KNOLLS – An 83-year-old resident of Morelos Avenue was taken to Marin General Hospital at 8:53 a.m. Friday after he had trouble breathing.

FOREST KNOLLS – An Aztec Avenue resident at 10:08 a.m. Friday told deputies that neighbors had sent him a letter saying they would be spraying "Dust Off" onto the street. The resident was worried how this would affect his asthma.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 6:50 p.m. Friday told deputies he had received a solicitation for money from the "American Deputy Sheriff Office." The man asked if the group was a "scam," and a deputy gave him advice. Another deputy said he had never heard of any such organization.

BOLINAS – A deputy on Wharf Road at 8:23 p.m. last Thursday served civil papers on a man, whom he found drunk beside the road. When the man complained of chest pains, the deputy radioed for medics, but then the man said he didn’t have any chest pains, and the medics were called off. Noting that the man was "slightly combative," he was arrested on charges of public drunkenness.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 7:48 a.m. last Thursday complained that two girls outside were screaming obscenities at her daughter. She said they sounded threatening.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 2:05 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that he had left his backpack in a business shortly before it closed for the night. When it opened the next morning, the backpack could not be found, he said. It contained his identification cards, $150, and his Social Security card, the man noted.

TOMALES – A woman driving a Ford car hit a cow on Highway 1 near downtown at 12:28 a.m. last Wednesday. The woman was unharmed. Information on the cow was not immediately available.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 9:32 a.m. last Wednesday reported that his 35 year-old girlfriend had been hitting him. The two have a 16-month-old child. Deputies reported the dispute was "abated at this time."

BOLINAS – A merchant claimed that the driver of a pickup truck was refusing to leave his premises and was threatening to "kick [his] butt." Eventually the truck driver left.

WOODACRE – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 12:15 p.m. last Wednesday reported that his car’s license plate had been stolen.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 2:38 p.m. last Wednesday asked what to do about her car in light of all the thefts from cars in Forest Knolls and San Geronimo. A deputy told her to keep her car locked. Nothing of value should be left in it, he said, at least not in plain sight.

MARSHALL – A citizen at 8:52 a.m. July 23 reported a deer had been struck by a vehicle on the Marshall-Petaluma Road.

WOODACRE – A woman at 11:40 a.m. July 23 reported her husband had beat her up. Her call was then disconnected.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Sierra resident at 10:41 p.m. July 23 complained that 50 juveniles were shooting off fireworks in front of his house. The problem was abated before a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release.
