August 31, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A woman on B Street reported losing a wallet downtown. She said the wallet contained her driver's license, her Social Security card, her Macy's card, and $20.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy at 6:30 p.m. arrested a man on a warrant from Sonoma County, where he is charged with two felony counts of having oral sex with a child under the age of 14. His bail has been set at $50,000.

INVERNESS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard man was reported missing.

NICASIO - County paramedics, sheriff's deputies, and Highway Patrolmen responded to a solo-vehicle accident on Lucas Valley Road near Big Rock at 9:45 p.m. Monday. The injuries were minor.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman told deputies she was concerned about her husband, who had left home depressed at 11:30 p.m.

SAN GERONIMO - A vehicle spun out at 9:45 p.m. and hit a wall on San Geronimo Valley Drive. There were no serious injuries, but deputies were told alcohol might be involved in the accident.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman found a man's wallet containing credit cards and $1. Deputies disposed of the cards at the request of the credit card company.

DILLON BEACH - A man on Marine View Drive, who has a history of asthma, reported chest pains at 11 p.m.

INVERNESS PARK - Deputies at 11:20 p.m. received a report of a vehicle spinning its wheels on the levee road and people yelling and screaming.

STINSON BEACH -Deputies at 1:40 a.m. received a complaint about a loud party in the vicinity of Avenida Farallones. A deputy abated the disturbance.

INVERNESS PARK - A man told deputies that when he was driving past White House Pool at midnight, he heard a woman yelling, "Stop!"

WOODACRE - San Anselmo Police at 11 p.m. asked West Marin deputies to be on the lookout for a 14-year-old runaway who might be with her boyfriend in Woodacre.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 1 a.m. complained that 20 loud people were on the beach beating a drum around a bonfire. Another woman made a separate complaint.

POINT REYES STATION - A female restaurant employee at 9 a.m. reported that a man, who appeared drunk, had been bothering other customers and had been asked to leave.

LAGUNITAS - A man living on Mountain King Road near the top of Mount Barnabe complained about a car on the road to the fire lookout. He said it was not an access road and that he "will block it if the Sheriff's Office doesn't do its job." The man claimed the county Fire Department is "lying" when it says the road is for access.

INVERNESS PARK - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard woman reported her son had walked away from home. She said he had recently been released from a San Diego facility for mentally disordered people but was still ill and refusing to take his medication.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man, who had been away from home for a month, returned to find that someone had tapped into his water supply and used his property without permission. He asked deputies what he should do.

TOMALES - A man on Highway 1 complained of ongoing problems with a 45-year-old townswoman who drinks heavily and then wanders in and out of businesses.

STINSON BEACH - A San Joaquin Patio woman reported receiving harassing phone calls, possibly from Sausalito. A deputy determined that no crime had occurred.

INVERNESS - A woman at 6 p.m. called deputies about her adult daughter, whom she couldn't reach by phone. The woman said she was concerned because her daughter had earlier reported seeing a bobcat outside her own house.

WOODACRE - A woman at 8:45 p.m. called deputies to say she was "uncomfortable" in her home because her husband was very upset and irrational. Reporting that he had shoved her around without injuring her, the woman asked that a deputy help settle their dispute. The officer determined the fight had been only verbal, adding that the couple was separated for the evening.

INVERNESS - An Inverness Way woman at 10:30 p.m. heard two gunshots.

WOODACRE - A woman at 11:45 p.m. heard a gunshot and asked a deputy to check on the welfare of her mother.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman at 10 p.m. reported 10 teenagers were making lots of noise on San Geronimo Valley Drive and riding bicycles in and out of the postoffice lobby. She later called deputies again to report the youths had been throwing bottles at her house and that they appeared to be using drugs.

WOODACRE - A woman at 11:20 p.m. notified deputies that eight juveniles were yelling and screaming, with some running up and down the street and others riding bicycles. She said she was concerned because there had been several incidents of vandalism in the neighborhood recently. An officer abated the disturbance.

 

August 24, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A man on Brighton Avenue reported receiving annoying phone calls.

BOLINAS - A deputy at 11 a.m. arrested a man on charges of abusing his domestic partner.

NICASIO - A property-management company reported that intruders had entered a vacant rental home but took nothing and caused no damage.

LAGUNITAS - A deputy secured a court's Emergency Protective Order for a woman.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Mesa Road gave a deputy a cellular phone that another person had found downtown.

DILLON BEACH - A vandal bent the antenna of a woman's car parked on Cliff Street.

MUIR BEACH - A deputy and a Highway Patrolman responded when a motorcycle fell down on Highway 1 at the Overlook.

BOLINAS - A woman returning home called deputies to say she was 10 minutes from her house and wanted to know about an Emergency Protective Order. The woman said she has been getting harassing phone calls from a friend of her boyfriend and had received threats that day at work.

CHILENO VALLEY - A woman on Wilson Hill Road reported that a motorist had driven through her fence the previous night and fled. The woman said she had learned that a deputy had checked with her neighbors about the damage, but when they said it wasn't their fence, the officer left.

CHILENO VALLEY - A woman at 7:40 p.m. reported that her boyfriend had hit her in the face with his hand during a fight. She said he also tore the bedroom door open. Deputies reported both people had been drinking and that the woman was calm now.

STINSON BEACH - A Sacramento Patio woman at 8:30 p.m. notified deputies that eight or nine people had a bonfire on the beach. She asked that an officer inform them that they cannot camp overnight on the beach.

WOODACRE - A woman at 8:30 p.m. reported there were 20 people with a large tent on the baseball field at the Improvement Club. The woman said she didn't know what they were doing. A deputy determined the group had permission to be there and that they were not causing a disturbance.

BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road at 9 p.m. notified deputies that two friends wouldn't leave his house. Deputies reported the man sounded drunk when speaking on the phone and that the problem was abated.

STINSON BEACH - A Mill Valley woman at 9 p.m. told deputies she was concerned as to the whereabouts of her son and his friend. The 14 and 15 year olds had left Mill Valley at noon and hiked to Stinson Beach.

STINSON BEACH - A North Calle del Occidente woman at 10:25 p.m. complained about a fire on the beach. She claimed the county fire marshal was wrong when he said such fires are legal and that the Sheriff's Office knew better.

INVERNESS - A store owner turned over to deputies a driver's license that an out-of-town customer had left in her store. Officers said they would track down the owner and return it.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man at 11:40 a.m. reported that neighbors on Rosario Road were blasting the neighborhood with amplified music from two outdoor loudspeakers. He said he had complained to the neighbors twice and they had told him off. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH - A woman reported that a bicycle ran off Panoramic Highway at noon, but no one was injured.

WOODACRE - A burglar broke into a locked vehicle parked on Redwood Avenue and stole a cellular phone and stereo amplifier.

SAN GERONIMO - A burglar entered an unlocked vehicle parked on Meadow Way and stole a stereo amplifier.

STINSON BEACH - A thief stole an access sign for Seadrift Beach.

WOODACRE - A vandal threw green pears at a window of a Park Avenue home, breaking the glass.

August 17, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A 15-year-old boy was transported to the county Community Mental Health Center as a danger to himself and others after he ran away from home barefoot.

STINSON BEACH - A man was transported to the emergency room at Marin General Hospital after he wrote a suicide note and took an overdose of pills along with alcohol.

INVERNESS - A sailor reported that a thief broke a windshield on his sailboat while it was docked at the yacht club and stole marine electronics and a fishing pole. The loss was estimated at $1,500.

CHILENO VALLEY - A Fish and Game warden arrested a man on charges of possessing methamphetamine after allegedly finding the drug in his pants pocket.

WOODACRE - A woman on Redwood Drive complained that commercial vehicles were blocking a Marin Municipal Water District access trail.

LAGUNITAS - A woman told deputies she had found a lot of drug paraphernalia in her son's belongings and believes he is dealing drugs.

BOLINAS - A deputy warned a man it is illegal to live in a vehicle, so the man moved the vehicle to Alder and Fern roads.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A woman riding with two small children in a four-wheel-drive vehicle became trapped behind a locked gate at 3 p.m. and asked deputies to help them get out of the park. A deputy arranged for a ranger to free them.

POINT REYES STATION - A thief stole items from a vehicle while it was parked in Inverness or Point Reyes Station, the owner reported.

BOLINAS - A man, who dislocated his hip when he fell along Maple Road, was transported to Marin General Hospital at 7 p.m.

JEWELL - A state park ranger at 9:30 p.m. spotted a man driving a stolen car, stopped him, and held all occupants of the car at gunpoint - ordering them to keep their hands visible - until a deputy could back him up. Deputies arrested the driver but concluded his two adult passengers, who were accompanied by two children, were unaware the car was stolen.

BOLINAS - A Mill Valley man at 9:30 p.m. reported his son had run away to Bolinas for the second time in two weeks. He said the 16-year-old boy was staying in a house off Brighton Avenue.

LAGUNITAS - A woman at 11:10 p.m. complained about loud music coming from La Cuesta Avenue. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

NICASIO - A man, who had been driving on Nicasio Valley Road at 1 a.m., complained to deputies that someone threw an apple at his vehicle. A deputy checked the area but could not find the culprit. However, he did find two apples on the roadway.

STINSON BEACH - A man reported that two houses on Seadrift Road may have been broken into. In one of the houses, the intruders "made themselves at home," he said, noting that a bed had been slept in and items had been moved around.

STINSON BEACH - A man on Buena Vista Avenue reported he had lost his camera Saturday while visiting from out of town.

BOLINAS - A woman at noon notified deputies that a man who had threatened her two nights earlier was on Wharf Road. The woman told officers that she would meet them at the laundromat, where the threats had occurred.

POINT REYES STATION - A car and a recreational vehicle collided in front of the bank at 1 p.m., blocking the intersection.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A man at 7:45 p.m. reported his 13-year-old son, who was accompanied by a dog, had been missing for two hours.

INVERNESS - A man renting a cottage along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard locked himself out. A deputy at 9 p.m. contacted a caretaker, who opened a door at the cottage.

WOODACRE - A man on Edgemont Road at 11:15 p.m. reported hearing three shots that sounded like they came from a 22 caliber gun.

WOODACRE - A citizen at 12:30 a.m. complained about juveniles yelling and racing a vehicle in the vicinity of Fern Avenue and Redwood Drive.

TOMALES - A woman asked how to evict a friend who had been staying with her but was not present at the time. A deputy gave her advice.

NICASIO - A man on El Mirador at 8:20 p.m. reported hearing two gunshots in the area of Lucas Valley Road. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

WOODACRE - A Carson Road man at 8:30 p.m. complained about loud, amplified music. Deputies were told the music would be turned down in 15 to 20 minutes.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint at 2 a.m. about noise from a party on Cedar Road. The partygoers moved inside before a deputy arrived, and the disturbance was abated.

INVERNESS - A woman on Hawthorden Way at 9 p.m. heard a teenage boy screaming, "Help! Help! God, please someone help!" She said she also heard an older male. A deputy found a boy who said he had been in a pushing match and did not want to press charges.

DILLON BEACH - Deputies at 10 p.m. received a report of two flares having been shot into the air near the seawall in the boathouse area.

WOODACRE - An elderly man at 10 p.m. notified deputies that a vandal had thrown a brick through a second-floor window of his house.

POINT REYES STATION - A resident of Mesa Road at 10:45 p.m. told deputies that a vehicle had struck her fence and then fled.

POINT REYES STATION - A bartender reported that an aggressive woman was pushing a customer and that the bar had asked the woman to leave. The 55-year-old woman, who had been drinking, was gone by the time deputies arrived.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road at 1 a.m. reported hearing 15 shots and seeing "flames shooting near the street."

NICASIO - A deputy on Old Rancheria Road at 2:30 a.m. found 50 carloads of juveniles, who had a bonfire and were drinking. The officer had them put the fire out and move along.

DILLON BEACH - A woman at 3:15 a.m. notified deputies that a very drunk man was inside her residence, refusing to leave. The woman added that she was calling not because she wanted him to leave but because she wanted him "to shut up." Deputies determined these were "two very drunk individuals having a quarrel." However, an officer reported, the pair was ready "to go to bed now."

MUIR BEACH - A man reported there had been vandalism to the community center.

TOMALES - A Highway Patrolman responded to a report of a clerk and a Caltrans worker having a confrontation in a store. The CHP officer asked sheriff's deputies to back him up while he quelled the disturbance.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road at 1 p.m. notified deputies there was a new street person in town and he was sleeping on a bench. The man was gone when an officer arrived.

WOODACRE - While a search-and-rescue team looked for evidence in connection with two murders of three recent murders, it found two license plates on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and turned them over to deputies.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman asked deputies if they had served an eviction notice on her daughter, as well as her boyfriend, and, if so, had the couple responded? An officer gave her advice.

STINSON BEACH - A man reported that two trees along Highway 1 had been vandalized, one the previous night and one a week earlier.

WOODACRE - A woman complained about loud music coming from the residence next door. A deputy determined there was no merit to the complaint since no one was home next door and all was quiet.

POINT REYES STATION - The Humane Society notified deputies that a fawn had been hit by a vehicle on Mesa Road. It asked them to check if the fawn were alive because they didn't want to drive all the way from Novato if it wasn't. A deputy reported the deer was already dead when he arrived on the scene.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - Deputies at 1:20 a.m. received a complaint that juveniles were drinking on the deck at the Drake's Beach snack shop. An officer could not find anyone in the area.

WOODACRE - A computer printer and scanner were found at 4:45 a.m. at Central Avenue and Park Street.

NICASIO - A rancher along Nicasio Valley Road at 3 p.m. reported there had been vandalism to her ranch 20 minutes earlier. She said she had seen two men leave the ranch around that time.

BOLINAS - A car and motorcycle collided at 4 p.m., sending the motorcycle airborne. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch.

BOLINAS - Deputies were notified that a knife had been found on Brighton Beach. The caller said the knife could be connected to the stabbing of three people at the beach two months ago.

MUIR BEACH - A vandal used a brick to break the skylight of a home on Seascape Drive. The vandal also littered the area with cans, deputies reported.

 

August 10, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS - A burglar stole a Canon 35 mm camera, three pairs of sunglasses, miscellaneous paperwork, and a wallet containing credit cards and $75 in cash from a woman's car parked on Bruce Street.

INVERNESS - A burglar stole a "dental-curing kit" worth $600 from a car parked in front of a home on Mesa Way.

MARSHALL - The landlord of a house on Highway 1 reported that a tenant took his $1,600 vacuum cleaner when she was evicted.

INVERNESS PARK - A man reported that a burglar stole items from a locker.

STINSON BEACH - After a husband and wife had a physical fight, a deputy arrested both of them on domestic-abuse charges. The couple was booked in county jail.

DOGTOWN - A boy ran away following an argument at school. He was found sitting beside Highway 1 a quarter mile north of home.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road at 9:45 p.m. arrested a man on charges of public drunkenness.

MARSHALL - An Inverness sailor told deputies his boat was out of the water for repairs when a burglar ransacked the cabin and stole a hand-held computer, prescription medications, a boom-box, and other property.

SAN GERONIMO - A deputy at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Meadow Way at 10:30 p.m. arrested a man on charges of driving with a suspended license.

Editor's note: Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday noted there has been a rash of burglaries from unlocked cars and other sites. They urged residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked.

 

August 3, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO - A man on Camino Margarita at 8:30 a.m. Saturday complained that a construction crew had begun work prior to the time specified on their building permit.

STINSON BEACH - A man stole 10 wetsuits hanging outside a Highway 1 business. He was last seen driving off with two other men.

WOODACRE - A woman at 4 p.m. reported that a burglar had stolen a compact disc and a CD player together worth $1,025 from her car parked on Madrone Avenue.

MARSHALL - A Highway 1 resident called deputies asking for advice regarding a dispute with her past landlords. A deputy left a message for her.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road at 12:45 p.m. arrested a man on a bench warrant.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Dogwood Road at 7:45 a.m. arrested a man on charges of violating a court order.

SAN GERONIMO - Deputies received a report at noon that a vandal on Lagunitas School Road had damaged a schoolbus by throwing rocks.
