July 28, 2005 Sheriff's Calls

LAGUNITAS – Restaurant staff at 7:45 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a 40-year-old man was "causing problems with customers" and had used the restaur-ant’s telephone to make long-distance calls. Staff said the man was "short and has a large, black dog." A deputy found the man walking along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, and he acknowledged having a "verbal" fight "with several patrons." The deputy "advised" the man to "stay out of the restaurant."

OLEMA – A deputy on Highway 1 at 8:12 p.m. Sunday stopped a 38-year-old motorist for a traffic violation and determined the man was wanted on an out-of-county warrant for failing to appear in court to face charges of driving with a suspended license. The man, who was "cooperative," acknowledged there was a warrant out for his arrest, and the deputy arrested him on it and on charges of again driving with a suspended license. The deputy arranged for the man’s car to be impounded.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:21 p.m. Sunday told deputies a 43-year-old friend, who was staying at her house, was "unstable." She said he was "not dangerous but needs a welfare check." The woman added that she had earlier gone to a bar with him.

BOLINAS – An Elm Road resident at 9:36 p.m. Sunday reported having "problems with a neighbor who is upset about the noise [her] dryer makes." She said the neighbor "has come onto [her] property several times and opened the dryer door [thereby stopping it], then left." She told a deputy she "would like advice as to the best way to handle the issue." A deputy gave her advice regarding the county noise ordinance and laws against trespassing.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 12:07 a.m. reported seeing "flames" behind his house, adding that he could "hear glass breaking and can smell smoke." After the neighboring house had burned down, a deputy at 2:43 p.m. reported that a Ross Valley Fire Department truck, which apparently didn’t stop, had struck his parked patrolcar. He said there was a "paint transfer" from the firetruck.

DILLON BEACH – A member of the campground staff at 10:12 p.m. Saturday asked that a deputy come to the gatehouse so she could "point out fireworks and other issues he needs to take care of." When a deputy arrived, he subsequently reported, he "saw fireworks and walked the area they were in but was unable to locate anyone or the fireworks."

BOLINAS – A deputy and the Highway Patrol at 10:15 p.m. Saturday responded to a report that an unoccupied vehicle was blocking one lane of Mesa Road. The deputy arranged for the vehicle to be towed away.

STINSON BEACH – A property manager at 10:22 p.m. Saturday said she had received complaints from tenants on Walla Vista about a "loud party [with] amplified music." A deputy passed along the complaint about the music, and "the hostess agree to turn it down."

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Sierra resident at 2:19 a.m. Saturday notified deputies there were youths with a bonfire and green tent on the beach. When a deputy arrived, they were gone.

WOODACRE – A man at 8:45 p.m. last Thursday reported a car had overturned on San Geronimo Valley Drive east of downtown. He said it came to rest upside down and that he had seen "a woman crawling out of the car." Deputies noted a flatbed towtruck would be needed to haul away the car.

POINT REYES STATION – Firefighters at 9:06 p.m. last Thursday reported a black calf was on Highway 1. A deputy contacted "the ranch owners, [who] got the cow back."

CHILENO VALLEY – A resident at 9:45 p.m. last Thursday reported seeing five or six young men "tearing apart a fence" and added that they might also be responsible for "signs down at Chileno Valley Road and Wilson Hill Road." The young men were "possibly associated" with two full-size pickup trucks nearby, the resident said.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Resaca resident at 10:37 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies she could see a bonfire on the beach.

BOLINAS – A resident at 11:38 p.m. last Thursday complained of people "working on cars and revving engines" in the area of Terrace and Ocean avenues. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

TOMALES – A Dillon Beach resident at 8:41 p.m. last Wednesday reported she had been "chased by a black pickup on Friday after helping a dog on the side of the road." A deputy gave her advice.

WOODACRE – A man at 11:51 p.m. July 18 reported that a woman, against whom a court has issued two orders to temporarily stay away from a home, was in the woods behind the home with a man. At 10:49 a.m. last Wednesday, he reported she "keeps driving up and down the street" despite the court-issued restraining order. He noted she was "not a threat" for the moment. At 6:28 p.m., the woman told deputies that she is the "legal leaseholder at the property" although a man "is being allowed to stay there. He is stealing [her] bicycles," she said, and has already stolen "musical instruments." Their dispute has been underway for a month.

INVERNESS PARK – A babysitter at 11:45 a.m. last Wednesday reported a six-year-old boy was having a seizure. She subsequently said the boy (who has a nerve disorder and asthma but no history of seizures) was "now coming out of it" and was breathing okay. Medics responded. At 11:01 p.m., she reported the boy had just had a second seizure. She noted his mother is out of state.

SAN GERONIMO – A resident at 2:21 p.m. last Wednesday complained of receiving "harassing emails from an unknown person in an unknown location." She agreed to check with her Internet-service provider, and if it can’t stop the emails, she will contact deputies again.

TOMALES – At 1:08 p.m. July 19, the county Department of Public Works reported that 17 five-gallon buckets of used motor oil had been dumped at Alexander and Tomales-Petaluma roads. DPW said the buckets were sealed and all the oil contained; it added that was sending out a truck to pick them up. At 2:49 p.m. last Wednesday, a Whittaker Bluff Road resident reported that nine five-gallon buckets of engine oil had been dumped at the entrance to her property. Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Anderson said he has now learned that DPW has been regularly finding and retrieving containers of used motor oil at different spots in Northwest Marin.

NICASIO – A deputy on Lucas Valley Road at 5:34 p.m. last Wednesday was flagged down by "a citizen who cut the tip of a finger off." The citizen was "applying direct pressure" to staunch the bleeding. The deputy provided a motor-vehicle escort to Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 12:37 a.m. last Thursday complained about a "very loud party" in the vicinity of Mesa Road and Highway 1. He said he didn’t know how many people were at the party but that they were "probably drinking." All was quiet when a deputy arrived on the scene.

BOLINAS – A Big Mesa resident at 6:22 p.m. July 19 complained that "people are playing loud music on outdoor speakers. They played the music all day Saturday and then off and on throughout the week." The resident said his "wife went by and asked them to turn it down, which they have." Nonetheless, he said, he wanted to talk to deputies about the noise.

WOODACRE – An Oak Grove Avenue resident at 12:26 p.m. July 19 told deputies she "believes she heard a bear outside of her window about eight minutes ago," an officer reported. "She is sure it wasn’t raccoons," an officer reported. She said there’s been "no harm done but thinks that if it is a bear, residents [in the area] should be aware so they can take precautions."

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 1:29 a.m. July 19 received a report that a 20-year-old woman was suffering "severe abdominal pains." The woman was alert and "no longer dizzy – only when she stands," officers were told.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 9:19 p.m. July 18 reported that "a neighbor is verbally assaulting his wife and hit her twice on the jaw." He described the neighbor as in his 50’s adding that the neighbor had earlier screamed at him to slow down on Seadrift Road.

MUIR BEACH – Deputies at 12:52 a.m. July 19 received word that a "patient trying to detoxify herself from methadone was using another drug [and] may have overdosed." Deputies were told the 42-year-old woman was short of breath, anxious, had leg cramps, and had vomited.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 7:44 a.m. July 18 received a report that a Toyota belonging to a Berkeley man had been burglarized while parked along Highway 1 near Steep Ravine. At 8:19 a.m., officers received a report of a second Toyota from Berkeley, this one owned by a woman, had been broken into near Steep Ravine. At 8:24 a.m., the driver’s side window of a nearby, green SUV was found smashed. At 8:26 a.m., a woman reported a suitcase, tapes, a wallet, personal papers, and miscellaneous items had been stolen from her car parked on Belvedere Avenue. At 10:25 a.m., deputies received word that the window of a GMC van parked near Steep Ravine had been broken out, but nothing was taken from the van.

TOMALES – A Highway 1 resident at 8:48 a.m. July 18 reported her home had been broken into and an unknown amount of money taken.

BOLINAS – A townswoman at 1:15 p.m. July 18 told deputies a man was dismantling cars on Brighton Avenue, where he was working on them. She said car parts were "strew over the public roadway. A deputy "advised" the man a county ordinance prohibits rebuilding cars on public roads. The man said he "will be moving the vehicle off the roadway," the deputy reported.

LAGUNITAS – A Barranca Road resident at 6:06 p.m. July 18 complained about neighbors "playing drums constantly on a deck." She said she had "asked them to move the drums inside in the past, and they had not complied." When a deputy arrived all was quiet but he spoke with a resident who said drums were being played at her home earlier – "but inside."

LAGUNITAS – A motorist on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard told deputies two men in a moving van had asked her for a ride, saying "they needed assistance getting out of the area." A deputy reported, "While she was speaking to one of the males, the other one stated, ‘Let’s get out of here,’ and they left." The motorist said they were now near the golf course.

MARSHALL – A woman at 9:42 a.m. July 17 reported her purse had been stolen from a state-owned vehicle.

 

July 21, 2005 Sheriff's Calls

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 11:50 a.m. Sunday complained about "protesters in the street getting people to honk." A deputy gave him advice.

TOMALES – A woman on Highway 1 at 12:47 p.m. Sunday told deputies that a "heavyset man" had been "loitering in the area for the last several days." She described him as 50 to 60 years old and as having a gray beard and gray hair. She said she thought "he may be a transient." A deputy "made contact with the subject," who turned out to be a Petaluma resident who "drives to Tomales on weekends." The deputy noted there was "no merit to homeless status."

STINSON BEACH – US Park Police at 2:53 p.m. Sunday asked for assistance. Police explained that they "were on a traffic stop, and somebody fled from the vehicle [but is] now in custody."

CHILENO VALLEY – A man at 4:54 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a motorcyclist had hit a rope strung across Chileno Valley Road while cattle were being herded across the roadway. He said the motorcyclist was about 40 years old, adding that he was "alert" and walking around. Medics responded.

BOLINAS – A resident at 5:26 p.m. Sunday reported that a trailer, a trailer hitch, and an old chainsaw had been dumped near Oak Road. A deputy who responded later reported, "Trailer marked for abatement."

STINSON BEACH – An Arenal Avenue resident at 5:36 p.m. Sunday reported a purse containing identification and credit cards had been stolen from a residence. He said he believed that the residence was locked at the time.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A man at 6:32 p.m. Sunday called deputies from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to report finding a "possible explosive device with Coast Guard markings… It’s orange and has fins sticking up out of the sand." He said it was two to three feet long and was marked "explosive device." The man gave the location as two miles north of the access to North Beach. National Seashore officials later determined the object was actually a radio beacon buoy with "Non-explosive device" written on the side, deliberately buried in the sand to conceal the "Non."

BOLINAS – A resident at 10:55 p.m. Sunday complained about a man swearing while walking down a road on the Big Mesa. She said the man has a history of drinking problems but she did not know if he had been drinking recently. A deputy later reported the man "was trying to catch his cat."

BOLINAS – Deputies at 7:09 p.m. Saturday received a report of a non-injury car accident in the general area of Mesa and Overlook roads.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 8:04 p.m. Saturday reported that a "white Boston Whaler" in the ocean had "lost all power." The Coast Guard was notified, but the boater later passed a message that another boat had come to his rescue.

INVERNESS PARK – An Inverness resident at 11:29 p.m. Saturday called from home to say he had just passed a vehicle in a ditch along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies found a "full-size pickup" truck that had apparently rolled down a driveway and struck a pole.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 2:49 a.m. Sunday complained about people "milling in the street and being loud." She said this had been going on for 90 minutes. A deputy found "a few stragglers on the beach," but otherwise the area was quiet when he arrived.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 7:55 p.m. last Thursday said her son’s girlfriend, who is in her 50s, "grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her," a deputy reported. She added that the girlfriend was now riding away on a bicycle.

WOODACRE – A resident at 1 a.m. Friday complained about a loud party of youths in the Madrone Avenue area. He later called back to report, "Things appear to have quieted down."

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 3:15 a.m. Friday complained about loud music in her area. A deputy determined the "noise was from the jukebox, [and the] bartender turned it off."

STINSON BEACH – The Highway Patrol at 8:12 p.m. last Wednesday received and passed to West Marin deputies a motorist’s report of youths setting off fireworks in the parking lot for Red Rock Beach. She said there were three cars parked nearby. US Park Police subsequently reported an officer had "just passed through" the area and found no youths or fireworks.

BOLINAS – A resident at 8:26 p.m. last Wednesday said he had "just escorted [off his land] a male subject who was on the property and asking for food," a deputy reported. The resident said the man was in his 20s with "feathers sticking out of his hat."

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 9:50 p.m. July 11 complained about someone in her Barranca Road neighborhood "playing drums too loud." A different resident at 9:05 p.m. last Thursday complained about "loud drumming" in the Barranca Road area. He later called back to say, "There may be a minor at this location." When a deputy arrived, the neighborhood was quiet.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A resident at 10:20 p.m. last Wednesday reported two motorcycles were parked behind a locked gate. The resident didn’t know how they got there.

WOODACRE – A resident at 12:22 a.m. last Thursday told deputies a man had entered her home while she was gone for a week and had also allowed someone to trespass on her property. She said she had been gone for a week because an elderly man staying at the home had become violent. She said that "both men are threatening [her] if [she] touches their property."

BOLINAS – A resident at 1 a.m. last Wednesday called for the third time to complain about a white trailer with no plates that has been parked on Elm Road for six months. Another resident, who a week earlier complained about the trailer, was advised to call the County Counsel’s Office.

BOLINAS – A resident at 11:01 a.m. last Wednesday complained about a horse trailer left parked on Poplar Road between Evergreen Road and Fern Road.

BOLINAS – A hospital nurse at noon last Wednesday notified deputies that a townswoman, while downtown the previous evening, had been struck by her estranged husband. He said, "She has a split lip." The woman later called deputies from Sonoma County, and an officer took a report.

BOLINAS – A woman at 1:18 p.m. last Wednesday complained about a man with a blue tent camping on Agate.

BOLINAS – A deputy on Brighton Avenue at 1:28 p.m. last Wednesday took a runaway juvenile into custody. Deputies turned over the youth, who was drunk, to the youth’s mother.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK — The Highway Patrol at 6:56 p.m. last Wednesday reported a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard east of Jewell. The CHP said the motorcyclist was still "down" but "conscious."

INVERNESS – A Camino del Mar resident at 10:55 a.m. July 12 reported a Weed Whacker had been stolen from her storeroom.

BOLINAS – A woman on Brighton Avenue at 5:55 p.m. July 12 reported finding a wallet on the beach. A deputy, in turn, found the owner, a Bolinas resident, and returned the wallet to him.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:03 p.m. July 12 reported that a man was camping next to a vehicle barricade at Agate Beach. She said, "he’s peaceable, but he places his tent at the base of the trail, so you have to step on it to access the beach."

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 10:42 p.m. July 12 told deputies he could see a fire on the beach. A deputy contacted the people responsible for the fire, and they put it out and left.

BOLINAS – A deputy on Ocean Parkway at 10:44 p.m. July 12 found a "possible homeless [persons’] camp." He subsequently reported, "Subjects asked to move along." Presumably he did the asking.

WOODACRE – A Rock Ridge Court resident at 10:21 a.m. July 11 reported an I-Pod computer had been stolen from his vehicle the previous day. He estimated the loss at $500.

INVERNESS – Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Anderson at 12:13 p.m. July 11 reported keys for a Chevrolet SUV had been found. The rental agency that owned the Trailblazer was notified.

POINT REYES STATION – A Lifeline operator at 2:31 p.m. July 11 reported receiving a call from a 91-year-old woman that said she felt dizzy and that she smells "gas in the house." Firefighters responded.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 2:50 p.m. July 11 turned over to deputies a .22-caliber pistol. She said she found it in a storage area above a wall while remodeling her house and didn’t want a gun in her house. Her husband subsequently said that unbeknownst to her, he owned a gun that he kept in remote place so that it would inaccessible to children. A deputy gave him back his gun, which was registered.

MARSHALL – A woman at 5:19 p.m. July 11 reported a motorcycle had crashed and that the driver was in a ditch. A second motorcyclist then got on the woman’s cell phone and said the bones of both his friend’s knees were showing. He added that the motorcycle was out of sight from the roadway. Deputies and the Highway Patrol responded.

BOLINAS – A resident at 6:13 p.m. July 11 reported that an acquaintance from Los Angeles had assaulted her while she was asleep. She said this occurred May 28 in Bolinas.

 

July 14, 2005 Sheriff's Calls

MARSHALL – Deputies at 8:10 a.m. Monday found a wrecked Honda sedan 15 feet below Highway 1 near Millerton Point. A deputy said the car had rolled over at least 10 times before coming to rest on its side. Most of the rolling occurred along the Highway before the car plunged into a thick patch of poison oak. No one was around the vehicle, and a ranger told officers that the car’s owner, a resident of Marshall, may be out of the country.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Toyota crashed on Castro Street at 8:38 a.m. Sunday. The driver was arrested on charges he was driving with a suspended license, and officers confiscated the car’s rear license plate as evidence.

OLEMA – A ranger at 9:15 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a boy had been found in possession of marijuana. The boy’s mother an hour later called officers from Stinson Beach to say she had given her son a "home test" for marijuana and then found some in their house. She asked deputies to take the marijuana and admonish her son. A deputy cited the boy for possession of pot.

INVERNESS – Deputies and the Humane Society at 9:33 p.m. Sunday were summoned to Inverness Way to deal with a pit bull running around loose in the area. An officer could not find the pit bull but did locate its owner, who said the dog had gotten loose from his property and that he would "attempt to rectify the problem."

NICASIO – The Highway Patrol at 9:31 a.m. Sunday arrested a woman whose car hit a motorcycle from the rear after it slowed for a 35 mph zone on Nicasio Valley Road. The crash broke the biker’s back in three places, and he was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital. The CHP charged the woman with driving under the influence of prescription medication.

DILLON BEACH – Medics were summoned to Marine View Drive at 9:56 a.m. Sunday to help a 20-year-old woman who takes "blood thinner." Deputies were told the woman "woke up this morning with [her] face swollen to about twice the [normal] size."

INVERNESS – A merchant at 12:02 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a man "became agitated for unknown reasons and had been "swearing at employees." He said the may drove off in a van.

MARSHALL – A 50-year-old man at 12:19 p.m. Sunday told deputies he was having an allergic reaction to a bee sting on his "right pinky finger." The man, who noted he is allergic to bee stings, reported feeling faint and short of breath. Medics responded.

MARSHALL – Two vehicles collided on Highway 1 at 1:06 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured.

HICKS VALLEY – A firefighter at 1:42 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that two people were having sex in a silver-colored Honda parked at San Antonio Road and I Street. He said he was "concerned that it may not be consensual." A deputy determined the car was registered to a Petaluma man.

BOLINAS – A Mesa Road resident at 2:02 p.m. Sunday reported that a homeless man was rummaging "through a woman’s car" and that he "had also gone through boxes at the fire department." At 6:17 p.m. deputies received a call that the man was "still hanging out" in the Mesa Road area. He was described as 40-to-50 years old with "a long black beard and straw hat."

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident at 10:19 p.m. Saturday told deputies she had hear a gunshot, but officers found no suspicious person in the area.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 10:26 p.m. Saturday complained about a "loud, adult party" in the Balboa Avenue-Sir Francis Drake Boulevard neighborhood. A deputy found a small wedding reception and was told "most of the people would be leaving soon." The officer noted that "most of the noise was people leaving [or] cleaning up."

STINSON BEACH – US Park Police at 10:58 p.m. Saturday reported that a man and a woman, who were carrying their stuff in garbage bags, were camping and possibly trespassing at Calle de Piños and Highway 1. A deputy arrested the woman on a Solano County warrant involving a public-drunkenness case.

POINT REYES STATION – A man on Highway 1 at 2:10 a.m. Sunday told deputies he "saw a man try to pull a woman out of a car and then slap her." The man said four or five other men at the scene, B Street and Highway 1, were "screaming."

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 3:01 a.m. Sunday complained about youths "with a very large bonfire on the beach." A deputy told the youths their fire was illegal under Marin County law, and they extinguished it.

BOLINAS – A resident at Birch and Elm Roads at 3:46 p.m. reported a second man had threatened him and kicked his car. When a deputy arrived, the resident performed a citizen’s arrest on the second man, charging him with vandalism.

DILLON BEACH – A Spanish-speaking priest, who owns vacant land in the area of Lelani Lane and Oceana Drive, notified officers that "someone took his private fence down and put a sign on his property," a sheriff’s dispatcher noted. Because of a language barrier, communication was difficult, the dispatcher added.

BOLINAS – A sheriff’s dispatcher at 6:06 p.m. Saturday received a call in which a "man was heard yelling, ‘Get off me!’" The call was then cut off, but deputies later determined one man had spat in another man’s face.

POINT REYES STATION – A restaurateur at 9:18 p.m. Friday reported that a "very intoxicated" man had shown up at the restaurant and "stated he had witnessed a brutal rape and was beaten up. He wants the restaurant to buy him a beer." The man left before deputies arrived.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 11:39 p.m. Friday told deputies that a girl had just "contacted and harassed her." A deputy told her to let officers know if it happens again.

INVERNESS – A man at 7:49 a.m. Friday reported that a vandal had "spray-painted ‘slut’ and various other graffiti on the side of the postoffice and nearby buildings." The vandal "also painted a fence."

INVERNESS – A man at 12:17 p.m. Friday reported a "boy is threatening his grandfather... They are throwing things at each other."

INVERNESS – A resident at 12:50 p.m. Friday asked for an emergency protective order against her neighbor who, she said, was "insulting" her.

LAGUNITAS –A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 1:03 p.m. Friday told deputies she could hear a female screaming, "Help me! Help me! Help me!"

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 1:08 p.m. Friday reported an "ongoing problem with a woman in her 70s using the trash bins at the church." She said the septuagenerian drives an "older blue Buick."

BOLINAS – A resident at 6:22 p.m. Friday complained about construction noise. A deputy told the resident that under county law there is a 10 p.m. limit on such noise. Nonetheless, the deputy "spoke with a construction worker and was told there would be no more work tonight."

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 9:35 a.m. last Thursday received a report that a 71-year-old woman, who has a history of diabetes, had been found unconscious, having blacked out in the past 30 minutes. Medics responded, and the woman was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Oceana Drive told deputies at 1:41 p.m. that a man who had rented a vacation home had "trashed it." She said the alleged vandal "broke pottery, scratched hardwood floors, and generally left the place a mess." A deputy gave her advice.

WOODACRE – A man at 10:26 p.m. July 5 reported a man and a woman were arguing and that she was threatening to call police.

WOODACRE – A 79-year-old man at 8:01 p.m. July 5 told deputies a woman had locked him out of his house and forged a check of his for $1,400.

WOODACRE– At 8:32 p.m. last Wednesday a second man told deputies a man might be the victim of elder abuse by a tenant.

WOODACRE – A man at 2 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a woman has been embezzling from him and hiding his phones.

WOODACRE – A resident at 7:18 p.m. Saturday asked that deputies remove an "elderly, senile" man from her house. She said the man, who suffers from "dementia," is a "guest" and not a "tenant."

BOLINAS – A man on Juniper Road at 8:32 a.m. last Wednesday reported, "Horses are loose in the area." Deputies and the Humane Society responded. A deputy subsequently reported the horses are "now eating grass in a yard [on] Evergreen Road." He added the horses are still "not contained."

INVERNESS – A man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard last Wednesday afternoon notified deputies that a white "Boston Whaler" with three youths in it "seems to be distressed... The boat appears to be drifting. The motor may need repair." He subsequently reported one youth was in Tomales Bay trying to tow the boat to shore.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 8:38 p.m. Friday told deputies there was a bonfire on the beach "surrounded by about 20 fairly well-behaved adults." A deputy contacted the group, who were "very cooperative and apologetic," he reported. They "extinguished the fire without incident."

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Sierra resident at 9:10 p.m. last Wednesday reported there was a "small, unattended fire" on the beach. A deputy found the people responsible for the fire she had mentioned, as well as a "unrelated, unattended fire." He directed that both be extinguished.

STINSON BEACH – A Walla Vista resident at 10:08 p.m. last Wednesday complained of fireworks. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 12:08 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that six buckets of paint from a house-painting job had been dumped beside the roadway at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Geronimo Valley Drive. He said the buckets were in three piles, each with a tarpaulin over it.

NICASIO – Deputies at 1:17 a.m. last Thursday found a stolen 1993 Geo with Arizona license plates. They reported the car had been "freshly dumped. The engine is hot, [meaning the driver] just left." Deputies were told the car was from "Red State," which Arizona was, but may have been from the town of Red Lake. Deputies could not find the driver.

NICASIO – A 66-year-old man at 8:04 a.m. last Wednesday reported that people at a friend’s house "are getting violent."

INVERNESS PARK – A Paradise Ranch Estates resident at 1:38 p.m. last Wednesday reported $500 worth of personal items had been stolen from his SUV.

INVERNESS PARK – The Humane Society at 4:47 p.m. last Thursday asked deputies to check on a deer in a ditch beside Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A deputy found the deer, which had been injured in traffic, and shot it to put the animal out of its misery.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Los Piños resident at 9:49 p.m. complained of fireworks on the beach. She said they had been going off for half an hour.

OLEMA – A woman at 7:14 p.m. July 5 reported a water main under Sir Francis Drake Boulevard had broken and there was "a lot of water in the street." Deputies notified North Marin Water District.

OLEMA – A woman at 10:32 a.m. July 5 reported copper wire had been stolen from the PG&E substation.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 11:08 a.m. July 5 told deputies he believed his neighbor had vandalized his car during the night, smashing a window. Deputies noted there is a problem between the neighbors over parking.

BOLINAS – A man on Brighton Avenue at 3:54 p.m. July 5 reported a burglar had broken into his car and stolen two "aerosol pistols" and a Game Boy, together worth $300. He said the culprit also damaged a license plate and his sunroof.

July 7, 2005 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A resident in the Alder and Grove roads neighborhood at 8:27 p.m. Independence Day reported "huge fireworks going off" and said she was "very concerned due to fire danger." She said the fireworks were so loud they sounded as if they had been "shot from a canon." A deputy could not find the culprits.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Resaca resident at 9:22 p.m. Independence Day reported fireworks on the beach. She also said she "wanted to thank deputies for doing such a wonderful job this [Fourth of July] weekend."

STINSON BEACH – A resident of the Calle del Arroyo-Alameda Patio neighborhood at 9:41 p.m. Independence Day reported "fireworks all along the beach."

BOLINAS – A Little Mesa resident at 9:51 p.m. Independence Day said she was "upset" about "fireworks being set off in the area."

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 10:28 p.m. said she could hear fireworks being set off in the area.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies at 10:33 p.m. Independence Day received a complaint about "fireworks at the seawall." A deputy later reported that the Day Beach had been "closed up."

BOLINAS – Deputies and medics responded at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday when a young person passed out. Officers were told the mother would meet the ambulance at Marin General Hospital’s emergency room.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday received a report of a physical fight at the beach end of Brighton Avenue. When a deputy arrived, the "group scattered," he reported.

BOLINAS – A man at 9:57 Independence Day told deputies that his BMW had been "vandalized last night as [he] was appearing at the community center." He noted there was a "cleat-like dent on the back of the car." A deputy determined the vandal "rode a bike over the top of the victim’s car, causing dents and scratches."

INVERNESS – A ranger at 11:03 p.m. Independence Day told deputies that "park dispatch" had notified him of "numerous vehicles parked illegally at the end of Camino del Mar near the footpath to Shell Beach." A deputy determined there was "no parking problem."

BOLINAS – Medics responded to Brighton Avenue at 11:42 a.m. Independence Day when a three-year-old girl suffered a head injury when she fell off a 3.5-foot-high stool. A rescue helicopter transported her to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 1:44 p.m. Independence Day reported losing her car keys in town.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies, medics, and US Park Police responded at 2:17 p.m. Independence Day when a man received a head injury and was bleeding.

BOLINAS – The Highway Patrol at 3:05 p.m. Independence Day told deputies it had received a report of what "may be an attempted suicide" on the Big Mesa.

BOLINAS – A woman at 5:03 p.m. Independence Day reported a quarrel underway on Brighton Avenue. A deputy found one of those involved was wanted on drunk-driving and other traffic warrants in Orange County. She arrested him and took him to jail.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 6:37 p.m. Independence Day found a woman on the beach with fireworks, told her they were illegal and would be confiscated. The woman, however, became belligerent, kicked the deputy in the leg and threw sand in his face, another deputy said. The woman, who had been drinking, was arrested on charges of battery on an officer, resisting arrest, possession of fireworks, and possession of marijuana, the second deputy added.

CHILENO VALLEY – A woman at 6:58 p.m. Independence Day reported a motorcycle had crashed and that the driver’s leg might be injured.

STINSON BEACH – A motorist Monday evening reported a burglar had smashed the window of her car and rummaged through it. She had not yet determined what, if anything, was stolen.

DILLON BEACH – A Cypress Avenue resident at 8:51 p.m. Sunday reported two men were fighting. One of the two had identified himself vaguely as a "safety-control officer." When a deputy arrived, the fight was abated.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 9:08 p.m. Sunday complained of 14 bonfires and illegal camping on the beach.

BOLINAS – An Ocean Parkway resident at 9:11 p.m. Sunday reported hearing six "explosions" in the past 45 minutes. He said he believed youths were setting off bottle rockets. A deputy could not find them.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded to Mesa Road at 9:47 p.m. Sunday when a 58-year-old woman with a history of thyroid problems developed a "tightness in her throat."

INVERNESS – An Aberdeen Way resident at 9:55 p.m. Sunday complained that someone in the neighborhood was setting off fireworks, including bottle rockets. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS – A Little Mesa resident at 1:33 a.m. Independence Day complained that "people are setting off fireworks." She also said she was concerned about camping on the beach.

WOODACRE – Medics responded at 1:34 a.m. Independence Day when a 15-month-old boy with asthma developed a high fever.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK – The Highway Patrol at 3:28 a.m. Independence Day told deputies it had heard from a state park dispatcher that there was a fight underway at a campsite.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 4:11 a.m. Independence Day told deputies that "someone just set off a very powerful firework" in the public restroom near the tennis courts. She said the smoke had now abated and that she had seen two males inspecting the restrooms after the blast.

BOLINAS – Deputies were summoned at 1:52 p.m. Sunday when a "bald man" sitting outside along Wharf Road said to someone else, "What am I doing talking to you. I am an ax murderer." An officer determined the man was not crazy and advised him against causing disturbances.

POINT REYES STATION – A gas station attendant at 1:58 p.m. Sunday reported that a red pickup truck – after being filled with gasoline – had driven off without paying.

BOLINAS – A mother living on the Big Mesa at 3:09 p.m. Sunday said her son and his father were locked in the house and she was locked outside. The father said she had "held up a knife to him, and he has scratches all over him," a deputy reported. Deputies described the 28-year-old mother as "hysterical" because, she said, the father was "on drugs."

BOLINAS – A resident at 3:26 p.m. Sunday reported that "three cars are creating a traffic hazard on a blind curve" at Park and Terrace avenues. A deputy ticketed two of the parked cars.

STINSON BEACH – Medics at 5:24 p.m. Sunday responded to the lifeguard tower when a beachgoer had a seizure.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Sierra resident complained of "two bonfires on the beach." A deputy told a group on the beach that their fires were illegal under county law, and they agreed to put them out.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 9:35 p.m. Saturday told deputies two tires on a camper’s vehicle had been slashed.

DILLON BEACH – A campground operator at 9:55 p.m. Saturday told deputies her husband was dealing with a group who had been setting off fireworks. She asked that the group be removed from the campground.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Ribera resident at 10:24 p.m. Saturday complained about a "large bonfire very close to homes." A deputy advised a group that their fire was illegal, and they put it out.

DILLON BEACH – A camper at 11:01 p.m. Saturday reported that 15 drunken campers had threatened "to come over and hit [him] over the head with a shovel" after he asked them to slow down. When a deputy arrived, the problem was abated.

STINSON BEACH – A resident in the neighborhood of Calle del Arroyo and Calle de Occidente complained about six or seven people with "loud aerial fireworks and a beach fire." A deputy could not find any fireworks but did direct the group to put out their fire and move along.

BOLINAS – A Little Mesa resident at 2:53 a.m. Sunday told deputies there had been "fireworks in the area for several hours."

BOLINAS – A 44-year-old man at 3:08 a.m. Saturday told deputies he was having "anxiety attacks" possibly as a result of "alcohol poisoning." A dispatcher noted the man "admits being a drinker" but sounds "very coherent" and is "cooperative." The man, who said he felt "weak," didn’t know his location and "only knows he’s in Bolinas," the dispatcher reported.

POINT REYES STATION – The Highway Patrol at 9 p.m. Friday told deputies it had received a call from a Highway 1 callbox from people who were "lost and couldn’t find their car." A deputy couldn’t find them.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy at 2:55 a.m. Saturday reported a silver-colored pickup truck had run off Highway 1 into Bolinas Lagoon. The man, who walked to Smiley’s in Bolinas after the mishap, said he was not injured. The deputy said the car was also fine for the moment but would not be when the tide came in.

NICASIO – The Humane Society at 11:38 a.m. Saturday responded to Nicasio Valley Road after deputies received a report of a "horse and rider down." Deputies subsequently reported the "rider is standing," but the "horse is [still] down."

NICASIO – Medics responded to Lucas Valley Road after a 2.5-year-old child had an allergic reaction to peanut butter and became "wheezy and lethargic."

BOLINAS – A Little Mesa resident at 4:51 p.m. Saturday reported 12-to-13-year-old boys were "lighting firecrackers in dry grass." A deputy could not find the youths.

INVERNESS – A woman on Callendar Way at 7:55 a.m. Friday reported a tree crew was cutting trees on her property. She said that when she confronted them the "crew boss yelled" at her that "he was going to do the work" and that "PG&E hired the crew." By the time a deputy arrived, the problem had been abated.

WOODACRE – A Sylvan Way resident at 11:55 a.m. Friday complained that two men were cutting down trees on his property. He told deputies that when he "asked what they were doing, they stated that they had permission of the owner." The resident said they had already cut down a 100-foot-tall tree on his property and that he had gotten into a quarrel with the tree cutters.

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 10:21 a.m. last Thursday reported her ex-husband had used their son’s identification to open three credit-card accounts in the son’s name and had charged $3,500 in purchases.

TOMALES – A town carpenter at 3:23 p.m. last Thursday reported a compressor and a power saw, together worth $500, had been stolen from an unoccupied house that is under construction.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 7:42 p.m. last Thursday reported his 17-year-old daughter had been the victim of domestic violence three or four months ago.

BOLINAS – Medics responded at 11:39 p.m. last Wednesday when a 40-year-old man had a seizure on Wharf Road. Medics transported him by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 12:19 a.m. last Wednesday reported she had received 10 harassing calls from a drunk man.

BOLINAS – A 36-year-old man at 2:57 a.m. last Wednesday reported having difficulty breathing. He said he has a history of heart problems, and medics transported him to Marin General Hospital.

NICASIO – Medics responded at 10:43 a.m. June 29 when a Lucas Valley Road man began vomiting blood.

BOLINAS – Medics responded at 11:56 a.m. June 29 when a 37-year-old man experienced chest and abdominal pain.

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 1:43 p.m. reported a woman customer had apparently stolen a $4,150 gold-and-emerald ring.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 7:21 a.m. June 28 reported a 35-year-old man had entered the residence thinking no one was there and then asked him for cigarettes. A deputy arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness.

INVERNESS – The Highway Patrol at 10:40 p.m. June 27 reported a deer, which may have been struck in traffic, was staggering on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and North Dream Farm Road. A deputy could not find it.

INVERNESS – A woman, who said she was a tourist, at 12:23 a.m. June 28 reported she may have lost a suitcase containing clothing near the postoffice. Apparently the trunk of her car had popped open and the suitcase fell out, she said.

OLEMA – Firefighters responded to the campground at 9:15 a.m. June 27 when a vehicle caught fire.

BOLINAS – An officer cited a man the morning of June 27 on charges he had sold cigarettes to a minor.

POINT REYES STATION – A Light reporter and a Highway Patrol officer were talking outside the sheriff’s substation at 12:05 p.m. June 27 when what the officer described as "gunshots" erupted on the other side of the building. A firefighter, who had worked in an inner city, crawled around the corner of the adjoining firehouse to see what was going on while the CHP officer, a deputy, and The Light rushed to the scene. As it turned out, a gardening crew was trying to start a chipper, and it kept backfiring.

POINT REYES STATION – An officer at 1:25 p.m. June 27 cited a merchant on charges of selling cigarettes to a minor.

BOLINAS – An officer at 2:16 p.m. June 27 cited a third merchant on charges of selling cigarettes to a minor.

LAGUNITAS – An officer at 3:11 p.m. June 27 cited a fourth merchant on charges of selling cigarettes to a minor.

TOMALES – A man at 3:56 p.m. June 27 reported a motorcycle had crashed and that the rider was lying in a ditch and not moving. The rider was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.
