June 24, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
POINT REYES STATION - A man drove his rental car off Highway 1, but no one was injured.
INVERNESS - A woman on Douglass Street notified deputies she felt afraid because someone had cut the phone wires to her new rental. She said she suspected a previous tenant. A deputy noted that she sounded as if she had been drinking. He checked her home and found that no lines had been cut.
TOMALES - A man recently released from a hospital let himself into a house south of town at 2 a.m. and went to sleep in a bed. The homeowner went to a guest house on the property and called deputies to complain.
OLEMA - Deputies received an anonymous report that a woman was dealing heroin. The caller reported being concerned that a friend, who is trying to get sober, is buying from her.
STINSON BEACH - A car ran off the road at Highway 1 and Calle del Mar. No one was injured. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol about the crash.
POINT REYES STATION - A man complained to deputies that a merchant had refused to sell him food, claiming he had previously stolen from her business. The man indignantly insisted, "I did not steal a thing." A deputy gave him advice.
LAGUNITAS - An Alta Avenue woman at 9:15 p.m. reported returning home and finding two vehicles she didn't recognize parked in her driveway. The vehicles left before a deputy arrived.
BOLINAS - A woman at Brighton and Park avenues at 1 a.m. complained about a large crowd drinking on the beach and making lots of noise. A deputy contacted the group, and the disturbance was abated.
DILLON BEACH - A man complained that two people, who had been drinking, were causing a disturbance. A deputy could not find them.
TOMALES - A woman at 9:30 p.m. reported that a man, who had spent the weekend in jail, was driving a van up and down Tomales-Petaluma Road past her house.
OLEMA - A motorist notified deputies he had hit a fawn at Highway 1 and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. He said he had dragged the deer, which seemed to be still alive, to a roadside ditch. Officers referred the matter to the Humane Society.
STINSON BEACH - An anonymous caller complained that 10 drunken people had a bonfire on the beach near Sacramento Patio. A deputy could not find them.
NICASIO - A Nicasio Creek Road woman at 7:45 p.m. reported that people in a truck with camper shell were camping out at the bottom of her driveway and refusing to leave. The people were gone when a deputy arrived.
TOMALES - A Highway 1 woman complained about a person bothering her. A deputy later reported the matter "handled."
FOREST KNOLLS - A man reported that while a stationwagon was parked at his house three nights, someone unsuccessfully tried to steal a car stereo.
INVERNESS - A worker downtown notified deputies there were several syringes in a stump in a parking lot. However, she said, there were no needles attached to them.
WOODACRE - A man at 11 p.m. heard three people outside. When he went out, he found his car had been egged and its stereo stolen.
DILLON BEACH - A woman complained that three carloads of teenagers were refusing to leave a campground, where the 12 youths were not wanted. A deputy was dispatched to the scene, but the call was canceled before the officer got there.
LAGUNITAS - A Highway Patrolman found a cow loose on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and tied it up. The officer then asked deputies to find the animal's owner.
June 17, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A deputy at Park and Brighton avenues cited a homeless motorist on charges of driving despite multiple suspensions and revocations of his driver's license.
OLEMA - A burglar stole a purse and $10 from a woman's car parked along Highway 1.
DILLON BEACH - A deputy on Oceana View Drive at 3 a.m. arrested a man on trespassing charges.
INVERNESS PARK - A Portola Avenue resident at 10 p.m. told deputies her boyfriend still hadn't returned home. She said he had been "mad" when he left in the morning.
MUIR BEACH - Deputies were notified there was an abandoned car in bushes off Highway 1. An officer could not find it.
WOODACRE - A man filed a complaint after someone vandalized a tree with graffiti.
LAGUNITAS - A man at 2:30 p.m. said 10 trespassers were hanging out and swimming at the Ink Wells, which he said are on his property. A deputy contacted the people and moved them along.
TOMALES - The Highway Patrol told sheriff's deputies it had received a report that a cow was stuck in a fence along Dillon Beach Road. Deputies notified a rancher, and she said she would handle the problem.
MARSHALL - A Marshall-Petaluma Road rancher found on his property the remains of a butchered animal. He told deputies the animal was not his and that he didn't know where it came from.
MUIR BEACH - A burglar stole two purses from the trunk of a vehicle parked along Highway 1.
WOODACRE - A Garden Way man at 9 p.m. complained to deputies about loud music outdoors. He said he wanted it stopped or taken indoors. After the man called deputies a second time, an officer got the music moved indoors.
WOODACRE - A resident at Railroad Avenue and Park Street at 9:45 p.m. reported hearing yelling, gunshots, and cars speeding away.
LAGUNITAS - A man told deputies someone had parked a vehicle in his driveway and secured it with a steering wheel "club." A deputy referred the man to a towing company.
LAGUNITAS - A man at 2 a.m. notified deputies that his girlfriend was refusing to leave his Sir Francis Drake Boulevard home. She had pushed and hit him earlier, he added.
DILLON BEACH - Deputies received a report that eight carloads of teenagers were "partying hard" at the day beach. Deputies determined that five of the carloads were from Casa Grande High and staying at the campground. Officers abated the disturbance.
WOODACRE - After a Conifer Way resident got into a quarrel with a horseman who rides at night, the resident's wife at 10:40 p.m. notified deputies the horseman was banging on their door in the dark. At 8:15 p.m. the next day, the resident called deputies to report the horseman had returned and warned, "This is not the end of it." He then rode away on his horse, heading up Conifer Way toward Carson Road.
INVERNESS - A housekeeper, who at 9:25 arrived at a house on Highland Way to do cleaning, saw a car parked in the driveway and a man inside the house. The housekeeper, who spoke little English, told deputies she was calling from inside the house and that the car was still in the driveway.
INVERNESS PARK - A Dover Road resident complained about men cutting trees on her property. Her neighbor then called deputies and talked with them. Officers determined the men were not trespassing and gave the parties advice.
FALLON - A woman on Whitaker Bluff said her adult daughter had not been taking her medication and was now threatening to kill her. When deputies called back, the daughter answered the phone sounding "agitated," a deputy reported.
TOMALES - Deputies received a report of eight juveniles fighting along the Tomales-Petaluma Road near Tomales High.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Guadalupe Place resident at midnight complained there were 40 teenagers in the town park. She said they were not drinking or fighting but that some were standing in the roadway. The youths were gone when a deputy arrived.
INVERNESS PARK - Deputies at 10:15 p.m. received a report of a woman yelling at a man downtown. He was pushing a bicycle and trying to get away from her. A second woman said the first woman had not been taking her medication.
PIERCE POINT - A helicopter at 8:45 p.m. found a man who had become lost between Kehoe and McClure's beaches.
TOMALES - The mother of a high school student told deputies a 15-year-old boy had assaulted her son, punching him in the face and causing damage to a tooth. An officer gave her advice.
STINSON BEACH - Deputies were told that a man had stormed into the office of another man and made threats to office staff because his property had been red-tagged for lack of permits. Officers gave advice.
LAGUNITAS - A Cintura Avenue resident asked for advice regarding a landlord problem. A deputy gave her advice.
BOLINAS - A woman working on the park project next to the downtown tennis courts reported having ongoing problems with trespassers.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Cypress Road at 11:15 p.m. complained about loud music. A deputy walked about a mile but heard none.
MUIR BEACH - Property that may have come from the burglary of a woman's car the previous day was found along Highway 1.
BOLINAS WYE - A man told deputies a deer had been hit in traffic on Highway 1 and that he had dragged it to the side of the road.
June 10, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
POINT REYES STATION - Two men at 6:45 p.m. got into a physical fight near the pharmacy, which was closed for the night. Neither wished to press charges against the other.
STINSON BEACH - A Sonoma County man at 11:30 p.m. reported his daughter had failed to return from surfing. She returned home safely while a deputy was completing a missing-person report.
DILLON BEACH - While a Fish and Game warden detained a man for allegedly taking too many crabs, a thief stole two shovels and a custom-made clam digger belonging to him.
POINT REYES STATION - An Inverness woman at 1:30 p.m. reported another woman, 24, had kicked her in the knees and run away. Deputies said the quarrel grew out of an exchange of insults.
DILLON BEACH - A resort owner located a man who had cut a lock off a restroom door. The man agreed to pay for a new lock, and the owner said no further law-enforcement action was needed.
POINT REYES STATION - A townswoman at 2 p.m. accused two motorcyclists of driving recklessly, and one of them accused her of the same thing. She and the motorcyclist performed citizens' arrests on each other. A deputy cited both of them.
POINT REYES STATION - A deputy at Alder and Fern roads arrested a man wanted on three warrants.
POINT REYES STATION - A citizen asked deputies if any lost keys had been turned in at the sheriff's substation. None had been.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman complained of loud music and talking that might be coming from two men and two women in a car parked a half mile west of Union School.
INVERNESS - Paramedics and deputies responded to Laurel View Avenue when a 17-year-old boy, who had been drinking, fell and struck his head.
WOODACRE - A woman living on Redwood Drive reported her husband had locked himself in a room and wouldn't come out. A deputy noted that on the phone, the woman sounded drunk. She eventually reported her husband had left, and although she was "uncooperative," she said everything was now "fine," deputies reported.
OLEMA VALLEY - A vehicle ran off Highway 1 at 1:30 a.m. and struck a utility pole near Olema Cemetery, blocking the northbound lane. A deputy reported the driver had left the scene prior to the officer's arrival.
DILLON BEACH - A man reported hearing what sounded like gunshots from people at Elephant Rocks at 2:40 p.m. He said they might be target shooting.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman complained about a party with 75 people and 50 cars just off Highway 1. She said the partygoers were not supposed to be going into the cow barns. A deputy abated the problem.
WOODACRE - A woman on Fir Avenue reported her husband was very angry but was not violent toward her or her son. However, she said, he had broken a door and threatened to break a computer. She told deputies no alcohol or weapons were involved. A deputy later reported the argument had been abated.
STINSON BEACH - An Alameda Patio resident at 10 p.m. reported a bonfire on the beach with sparks blowing toward her house. A deputy found a "very small fire," which was then put out.
TOMALES - During a large quinceañera in the Town Hall, two people outside got into a fight over a stolen car, deputies reported.
MARSHALL - Three women from Sacramento got lost while driving home from Dillon Beach. They told a deputy they had only a eighth of a tank of gasoline left, and the officer arranged for a towing company to bring more.
WOODACRE - A Ridge Rock Road resident complained that a burglar alarm at another residence had been going on and off all day.
OLEMA - A woman reported her purse had been stolen from a van.
DILLON BEACH - A man notified deputies that a burglar had broken into his motorhome and had stolen a generator.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies received a report that a man on Cintura Avenue was yelling at a woman, pushing her, and threatening her. He said a child was screaming, "Dad." Deputies and Fairfax police responded.
WOODACRE - A woman asked for extra patrols around her house because her estranged husband was getting out of prison.
INVERNESS - After a woman's dog killed some chickens belonging to a woman next door, deputies were asked to intervene before the incident turned into a feud. Officers contacted the Humane Society.
BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road at midnight found another man with a "bad head injury," a deputy reported. An officer and medics were dispatched.
SAN GERONIMO - A man called from Lagunitas School Road to say he has information on a suspect in ongoing vandalism.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Forest Drive at 8:10 p.m. reported hearing five gunshots. A deputy was unable to find anyone shooting, and speculated the noise may have come from firecrackers.
SAN GERONIMO - A vandal punctured the right-front tire of a Jeep.
DILLON BEACH - A burglar pried off the door of a motorhome and stole the door, along with fixtures from the motorhome.
June 3, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
OLEMA - A deputy on Highway 1 arrested a Point Reyes Station man after the man's father, also a Point Reyes Station resident, accused his son of making terrorist threats against him.
NICASIO - A deputy at 1:40 a.m. noticed a suspicious car at the county corporation yard and spotted a duffel bag on the ground. A suspect fled across Nicasio Valley Road but was tracked down by a Fairfax Police canine unit. When the suspect tried to avoid being taken into custody, the dog bit him. Deputies jailed the man on charges of burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, vandalism, carrying concealed weapons (including an illegal throwing star and a type of switchblade knife), possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine paraphernalia, and being a felon in possession of firearms.
DILLON BEACH - Sixteen to 20 patrolcars and a Sonoma County sheriff's helicopter were dispatched to a campground at 9 p.m. after 15 people got into a "gang fight" with shots fired. Officers arrested five people on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
POINT REYES STATION - A deputy arrested a man on Fourth Street on two traffic warrants.
TOMALES - A woman living along the Tomales-Petaluma Road turned a pellet gun over to deputies so it would be destroyed.
INVERNESS - A woman living on Aberdeen Way told deputies she wanted a 48-year-old man removed from her house. Deputies noted that both people had been drinking but neither was drunk. The man said the woman was upset because he had taken away her car keys so she couldn't drive.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man on Morelos Avenue complained that the pump for his neighbor's hot tub was noisy. He said he had asked the neighbor to turn it off but the neighbor had done so for only 10 minutes. A deputy, who went to the scene, reported the "sound is almost inaudible." He told the first man to call again if the noise gets louder.
BOLINAS - A man at 2:30 p.m. told deputies that a group of people appeared to be pitching camp on Wharf Road. He said there were chairs and camping equipment in the street. A deputy gave him advice.
SAN GERONIMO - Deputies at 1 a.m. received a complaint about a party, possibly with drinking, on Meadow Way. He said 10 cars were parked along the street. A deputy dispersed a group of juveniles.
DILLON BEACH - Two women got into a physical fight because of a traffic dispute. Deputies reported that the occupants of one vehicle threw garbage out the window.
WOODACRE - A vandal used yellow paint to deface signs at two entrances to town.
STINSON BEACH - A woman complained at 8:20 p.m. about a loud band on the beach. A deputy contacted the partygoers, who agreed to shut the music down.
MUIR BEACH - A man on Pacific Way called deputies to report that some families were offended by nudists on the beach.
INVERNESS PARK - A 78-year-old woman with a collapsed lung was evacuated by helicopter.
BOLINAS - A woman at 7:45 p.m. reported that a 13-year-old girl was smoking (possibly marijuana) on Wharf Road. She said such behavior is an ongoing problem on Friday nights and asked for more patrols downtown on a regular basis.
SAN GERONIMO - A deputy reported a truck was driving on the golf course at 9:45 p.m. The officer later determined the driver was an employee of the golf club.
BOLINAS - A truck became stuck at 11:50 p.m. when it high-centered at Terrace and Hillside avenues, blocking traffic in both directions. No tow truck was immediately available.
SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A man complained that a possibly drunk motorist was driving around the campground. The first man said the motorist had hit trees in the park, and his vehicle may have side and mirror damage. The motorist by then had left the park, said the first man, who added that he was camping with a group of fifth graders.
SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A van at 9 p.m. ran off the road and into a creek, ending up on its side in the water. A deputy reported the motorist might have a broken leg.
NICASIO - A bicyclist complained about vehicles speeding near Big Rock. He said he had been run off the road twice. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol and gave the bicyclist advice.
DILLON BEACH - A vandal broke a window of a fifth-wheel trailer.
